Two more ready. Sails and tiny details still giving me problems. Now I know why its called dread-fleet. I'm dreading painting the Heldenhammer and Bloody Reaver sails.

Warning...sob story ahead...play some violin music in the background. I recommend skipping and go to the pictures.

Hello everybody. I haven't been around lately because I fell into a bit of a Warhammer funk and shunned the world. A few bad gaming experiences had taken the fun out of it, and I was having a hard time getting back into playing regularly and eventually stopped trying. Then, a few months ago, I popped into my LGS to pick up some paints. A few folks remembered me and said I should get back into the game and join the fantasy campaign that was about to start. I missed playing, so I signed up for it. I played the first game of the campaign, which I enjoyed even while being massacred by Skaven. There was one memorable moment though. The CCUP orc unit rolled a Squabble result when they failed their Animosity test. The nearest enemy unit was just under 16 inches away...and I rolled a 12 for charge distance! Although they fought valiantly, they could not break the horde, and when a second rat horde flank charged the orcs, they soon found themselves overrun.

I went back for week 2 of the campaign, but didn't stay to play a game. I was the first one at the store, and left before anybody else arrived. I don't know why I left. I knew it wouldn't be long before the other players got there, and I enjoyed the previous week's game. Even though I was looking forward to playing, something inside me sent me home. After I did that, I started shunning the world and neglecting my O&G army.

But even with the shunning, I continued doing other hobby stuff in my cave. The crazy part is I'm making terrain with the purpose of using them in a game and thinking how cool they would look on the gaming table. Then I realized, this is silly. I'm making terrain because I want to play, so stop shunning the world, muster my army, and get back into the game.

End sob story, end violin music, on to what I have been doing:

And with this, Dreadfleet is completed

From Dreadfleet to more terrain.

I got the conical roof molds this past Xmas, and decided it was time to use them.

This is the 4 inch tower (the full build, the last one was a short version without the arrow slits) with the wood conical tower:

Some time ago I made a pipe cleaner forest:

They are okay, but I liked the fancier trees I had seen that also looked like a lot of work. So, as I was finishing the tower, and while still in terrain making mode, I thought I would try making the fancier trees...I like them much better. (The tutorial I used to make these trees: http://sirrob01.wordpress.com/2011/10/10/w...e-single-trunk/ ) I left the forest base plain and magnetized the bottom of the trees so they can be removed when a unit enters the forest.

And of course, I had to make a mini-scene. This also gives an idea of the tree size. (These trees are a second forest set that I am working on and using a lighter green foliage.)

Don't worry, the Empire halberdier soldier survived yet again. The orc boar rider failed his dangerous terrain test while charging out of the woods. The boar tripped over a tree root that was sticking out, and sent the orc hurtling headlong onto the halberd impaling himself.

More terrain.

The mini is the GW Sartosan Vampire. I thought it was a cool looking model, and decided to use it for a Sinister Statue. I dunno the Sartosa story, so I dunno why this vampire has a wooden stake going through his armpit.

I also finished the second forest, but no picture. It looks similar to the other except the foliage is a lighter green color.

I want three units of Manglers, but getting three of GW's model is a bit much, so I had the idea of using 'The Chase' squigs for one of the mangler units.

Well, not much to say, just another big yellow spider:

I planned on painting this with my new airbrush, but that didn't work out...I couldn't get the airbrush to work properly. And then, when I put the spider on the tree, I discovered I didn't attach one of the rear legs properly, so the legs don't fit into the holes. So much for what I thought was idiot proof assembly... unsure.gif

I have another Arachnarok primed and ready for paint. I'm going to try the airbrush again. I played with it a bit when I first got it a while ago, and I'm guessing I didn't clean it out well enough after that. I'm still undecided on the color scheme. Probably something more of a traditional color.

You should rephrase your post: "just another cool big yellow spider"

Looks good man, looking forward to the next one too.

Thanks for the kind words ya'll. wub.gif

I had to get a game in with my newly painted yellow Arachnarok. As usual, I was massacred. I really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to playing. Just a few turns into the game, my Arachnarok was killed by skinks with their poisonous darts. After the game, my opponent said I should have run up the middle with it instead of sticking it on the side. And then, a day later, I remembered that the Arachnarok has a 4+ save blink.gif

I had planned on doing a traditional color scheme, but my 5 year old granddaughter suggested purple and green. That sounded good to me, so here it is (and properly assembled-the legs fit into the holes):

So, now I can't wait to play a game with two Arachnaroks.
But first, I need to paint an orc shaman for the list I made using two Arachnaroks.

edited for slightly better pictures-don't know what I'm doing with a light box either.

Orc Shaman ready for casting and dispelling (wub.gif this model):

user posted image user posted image user posted image

Now that my shaman is painted, my two Arachnarok army list is ready for battle.

The army list got quite short when I learned my FLGS plays at 2500 instead of 3000 points now. Two big spiders takes a big chunk out of 2500 points. So I figured, lets keep the big point sinks going.

I'm calling this 2500 point list 'Grimgor's Warband':

Grimgor and 30 Immortulz with full command and standard of discipline
Orc BSB with armour of silvered steel
Lvl 4 Orc shaman with dispell scroll and talisman of protection
40 big 'uns full command with banner of swiftness
2 Arachnaroks (one with a flinger)
10 Spider Riders with bows and musician
10 Wolf Riders with bows, spears, shields, and musician

Well, I still won't get to try this list. My FLGS is starting a campaign based on blood in the badlands. Starting points: 1850.

Just spent probably the happiest hour of my last week going through this blog from start to finish! cudos on the great work.

really inspired me to get back into painting as all my warhammer has been sitting on shelves/in boxes waiting for who knows what.

hope to see more good work and more awesome dioramas!

I agree this is a very nice blog. I would like to see you push your skills a bit further on the shaman though being that it is such a lovely model. Some more sharper highlights especially on the face and edges of the robes, also paint some dark wash directly into the carvings on the bone staff and paint some of the bracelets and string bits, red like his bag might be good to make them stand out.

Well done for painting 2 Araknaroks and I forgot to mention before that your Dreadfleet boats look superb.

Keep up the good work!
