Mornin' all smile.gif

So, with the advent of the latest DW project, the Undead Greenskins, I got me a real chance to really kitbash some sprues. And with great timing, me and some mates decided to start new armies. Now, the Undead Greenies aren't tourney legal, so I had to think of an army that would let me use zombies... and skeletons... and shamans.... VAMPIRES.

So, it's going to be an interesting challenge: to build an Undead army from sprue bitz that I have if possible, without losing character and STILL making things recognisable. Should be fun biggrin.gif

Anyway enough waffle. On with the show:

Okay, here's the plan of attack:
  • Goblin Zombies
  • Goblin Skeletons
  • Orc "Zombies" (I plan to have them coming out of the dirt so they can fit on 20mm bases)
  • Dire Wolfboyz (centaur bodies)
  • NG Spirit Hosts (using the BFSP speargobbos; not sure if it'll make DWQ)
  • Doom Diver Fell Bats
  • SquigHerder Banshees (one with cymbals and one with the ever-popular bagpipes)
  • Goblin Shaman Necromancers (funky bases for the unconverted models...)
  • Vampires based of Orcs
  • And finally, the piece of resistivity, Boarboy Black Knights biggrin.gif
It's an ambitious list, as I wanted to try my hand at scupting flying Squigs and a LOT of undead detail on the wolves, boars and characters. So should be interesting smile.gif

Anyway, here is the first step on the long & winding road: Goblin Zombies smile.gif

Pic 2 is blurry... soz about that. Anyway, you can still see that I took Zombie bodies and (most) arms, and put Goblin heads and legs around them. The result is taller than a goblin, but shorter than a zombie, and identifiably green biggrin.gif I had to scar up the heads some to look dead.

The heads and goblin arms (see if you can spot 'em biggrin.gif) had to be dead-ed up some as well; a pin vice drill and a knife took care of most of it. The big problem came with half the zombie necks; they were pointing UP instead of FORWARD, so they had to be cut off and the heads glued on the torso (or, in one case, the hand). I rather like it; makes them look very Igor biggrin.gif

Anyway, I won't be able to do much with 'em for a few days, so hopefully on wednesday I'll be able to do gapfilling green work and finish the unit of 20.

After that... GOBLIN SKELETONS.

Cheers!

HOORAY, MORE UNDEAD GOODNESS!!!

Okay, I apologise for my lack of work on this sofar. But trying to arrange a bitz order specifically for this army (as well as Arfa's sweet Chaos Orcs) took a bit of time. Plus there was DogCon stuff to sort out, and a few other things (such as trying to figure out what I can use to scratch-build a pumpwagon for DogCon). Plus I'm inherently lazy happy.gif

Aaaaanyway.... last night & today saw the finishing of the last 2 corpse-piles known as Goblin Zombies. Hell, I'd just finished the greenwork on the last 10 before I took pics. As per usual, it's Goblin legs, heads and one arm plus Zombie parts. The gs was added to smooth over some parts, add some others (brainz and eyes mostly, as well as some guts, some random parts and in one case a jaw).

Here's the results, as well as the whole unit:

I'm actually pretty happy with how they came out (apart from Lower Jaw dude). The real issue is ranking up, as I was more worried about how sweet they'd look as opposed to how sweet they play. However that's nothning major; I can trim down spears and suchlike biggrin.gif

Anyway, I said I'd do skeletons next... I lied tongue.gif kitbashing's hard work. So, next up are the BfSP Goblins as... SPIRIT SWARMS!!! biggrin.gif

Cheers!

GAH, talk about Invocation of Nehek.... wink.gif

Really sorry about the delays here guys, but in the last 2 months I've really gotten into the tourney circuit for this year. Just after the last post I started prep for DogCon (the report's around in the BatRep board) and then I had to borrow an army for Summer Legends (again, report in BatRep). So the modelling time took a kick in the shorts apart from a few small projects.

Anyhoo, I'm actually going to put the Spirit Host NG's aside for a bit, as I can't find the points for them at tourney level. I'll finish them because frankly I'm curious as to how they'll turn out biggrin.gif but a few other things will come first.

This is one of them biggrin.gif GOBLIN SKELETONS:

That's the unit of 20 right there. The detail's a bit hard to make out, but there's a full command, as well as spears. That was mostly for continuity; anyone who owns common goblins will know that they don't have hw's biggrin.gif Oh and that's a metal muso in there biggrin.gif

Here's one in more detail:

user posted image

Okay here's how I went about it:

I stuck a Skeleton torso on a goblin's legs. Ditto with weapons. To ram the point home, they got given Goblin shields. What, you wanted brain surgery? biggrin.gif

Okay there WAS some involved in the heads... here's the steps:
  1. Get a bare goblin head (or hatted in the case of my unit boss... I prefer bare heads thanks to him)
  2. Clean up the mold lines. Don't bother with cleaning the ears, but do clean off the rest of the head.
  3. Remove extremities. Noses and ears have to go. Leave a small stub of the nose; have a good look at a real skull. They have noses.
  4. Ditto for TONGUES. This is only a problem for a few heads, but those have to go too. Be careful with the teef.
  5. Drill out the eyes. I put a small guide hole in first with a knife.
  6. Cut out a small triangle on the nose.
  7. File back the cheeks and tidy up around the ears. The point is to bring out the cheekbones, skull style.
  8. VOILA! You have a Goblin Skull biggrin.gif
You wanna know the sad thing? These will end up in Zombie units... my trial games have shown zombies to be faaaaaaaaaaar more effective than skellies for now. But the full unit's there if they get better in the next army book biggrin.gif

Anyway next up: Snotling Graveyard rank fillers (40mm bases).

Cheers!

Such a fantastic effort, and done in such a style that for me, conveys great skill.
wonderful posing and feel to the models.
The Skeletons are REALLY scary, a lot more scary than normal skellies.

I am so looking forward to seeing this completed!
