Well as I promised before here is the simple step by step proscess of writing an article. Writing an article is easy and you will get plenty of credit in the magazine. I encourgae everyone who has spare time to consider writing an article about what ever they want and of whatever length they want. It's easy to do and we appriciate it very much.
So the steps to writing an article:
The first step in wrting an article for DWQ is reading this topic and the forum rules through. This means there is no confusion about how to do things. If you still don't understand anything on this forum and on DWQ just pm me.
The second step is choosing what to write about. Alot of writers have ideas in their heads already but even they should give this thought. Firstly what catagory do you want to cover? You should choose one you enjoy or know alot about as this will make writing the article funner. Here are some basic catagories to choose from but don't worry if yours dosn't fit into any of them or the main one as we can alwasy fit it in the mag.
Painting and Hobby
Da Warpath News
Anything not in the above catagories
After you have chosen a catagory choose what you want to write about. When choosing remember it should be related to games wrokshop games. In most cases it should be aimed at warhammer orcs but we will also include articles on other warhammer armies, specalist games, or anything else similar to the hobby we play.
So before moving onto the next step you must know what you want to write about in a bit of detail. You can write about literaly anything from a tactics article on night goblin armies, to how to paint wolves, to a special unit you have made, or anything else imaginable. It's up to you.
Ok you now have read these articles and know what you want to write about. But there is one more step before you start writing. Now you must decide wether your article is to be private or public. I will adress the differnce between them here now:
A public article is one the community knows is going to come out. The reasons for choosing this is that you get the whole coimmunities support and ideas on what your article could have in it. You should create a post in the main DWQ forum and ask for advice on your idea. You will get lots of help with concept and it can make your article better but it has a cost. Doing this means that alot of the community already knows whats in your article and it won't be a surprise to them. The choice in the end is up to you.
A private article is one that is done outside the public eye. If you choose this choice you should have quite a good idea about what you want to do as you won't get much help on ideas. This can be good though as when the article comes out it will probably be quite interesting for people to read and will be fresh. To do this type of article you don't need to post a topic in public and can just proceed to the next step.
This step is very easy to do. You now know what your article will be and wether it will be private or public. You should send a PM to the editor of the section your article falls into best. If your article falls into multiple catagories or none at all than pm it to arfa.
Here is the list of all DWQ editors:
overal lord of Da warpath mag: ME Zorg_orc_warboss
Tactics - Garbag
Painting and Hobby - Jimbob
Rules - Morakaischosen
Fluff - Gorfang
Specialist Games - Draig Athar 013
Battle Report - Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull
GW News - ???? (send to me for time being)
Da Warpath News- ???? (send to me for time being)
Newbie Corner - Snotstaff
Layout - Goofycabal
In your pm you should tell the editor the name of your article, what it's about, wether it is private or public, and how long you think it will take you to write. They should reply to you saying thanks and all the info has been recorded and they will pass your info onto the locked forum. If they do not PM you back within 10 days PM me the same information you PMed them.
This step is fairly straight forward, you write your article. size is not an issue and no article is too small. If your article is very long though we might cut it into peices and have it go for a number of issues. When writing it make sure you use english spelling and grammer checks so it is easy for everyone to read. (Note: differences between words like color and colour is not a problem as everyone can read them). Make sure you use paragraphs in your articles to make it easier for people to read. If you can include picture that are relevant to your article than please do. These picture however must not be GW artwork or photography and must be your own work (or the work of someone who doesn't mind you using it). Pictures help brighten up articles and the more the better. Pictures can also be esspecialy good in battle reports and P&H articles.
The last step in this proscess is to PM your work to your relevant editor (the same one you PMed
). They will agian reply back within 10 days and if they don't than just pm it to me. If you would like you can also email it to editors but this is not compulsary. Please keep pictures in the place you want them in the article when submitting it. The editors will then post your article in the locked forum where it will be reveiwed. You should then see it turn up in the next issue of DWQ.
And that concludes my guide of how to make an article. It may seem hard to do from looking at these steps but it is actualy quite easy and the first 3 steps should be finished very easily. We are always looking for more articles and there are millions of topics to cover. So if you have ever thought of writing an article do so now.
