QUOTE (Tremendous @ Aug 22 2012, 02:48 AM)
Any oppoent with Etheral Units, once they find out your Lord doesnt have magic weapons, is going to have a field day. Hexwraiths will be the bane of you. Unless your fortunately enough to not face many undead armies, in which case more power to ya!

I could still have other characters with magic weapons, or I could still win by combat resolution, even if I don't attack said ethereal.

Sword of +1A
Charmed Shield
Talisman of Pres
Potion of Strength

This guy actually kills your in round 2, but survives the hits you do to me in the second round and comes out of it alive.

*does math*

Well you're right, that build does win out.

The only thing I can say against it is that if you go for shrunken head synergy then you are paying for a 4+ ward when you could have a 5+ ward for free, but then we'll get into the viability of savage orcs again and that's not really the point.

You know what I think I really like this combo build. I've been playing with the idea of saving a bunch of points and using just a common orc warboss and this gear would be perfect in an open list format.

In closed list I'll probably stay with the more offensive version (it's more my style), but in open list you can bet I'm going to steal that build wink.gif

Well yeah, if you combine the savage guy with a shrunken you could go more on the offense smile.gif I'd still recommend Fencer Blades on him or the Shaman though, WS10 helps a lot with defense against character and WS4 units.

I usually go Armor of Destiny, Sword of Striking, and Crown of Command.

Armor of Destiny = I have to give this guy a 4+ ward! It's saved his bacon too often and it's too important in an army like ours.

Sword of Striking = I roll terrible and we need something to help us hit. Also, NEVER go without a magic weapon! Ethereals are too nasty.

Crown of Command = As someone else stated, too often my Warlord is run down when his unit broke. This keeps them there and him fighting!

I will agree that the Talisman of Preservation is better, but I usually use it on my BSB. I give him the Talisman and the Enchanted Shield. It improves his armor save and gives him a 4+ ward. It's the best BSB protection around.

I have been going Warboar, Shield, Armour of Destiny, Sword of Strife
6 S6 attacks, T5 2+/4++ on the defence
He's pretty good in most situations but there is some stuff he struggles with like Chaos Lords or Vampire Lords will beat him (fair enough as they are more points)

Pretty much every set up has bonuses and down falls depending on what you are playing against. The trick is to understand what you have geared him up for and then make the most of that.

No one uses a Goblin Warboss?

-Goblin Warboss: armour of silvered steel + great weapon (in a unit of NG with nets).

The 2+ save and -1 str is a cheap and effective combo!
