I was going through my old SoC book last night when something hit me. The Goblin Hewer was not a Dogs of War unit. Indeed it counted as both a Hero & Rare in the Dwarf army.

With this in mind I contacted G.W and asked them if it's still legal, according to them: Yes, yes it is, if I had a copy of the rules that is I only had to ignore the "look Snorri, Trolls!" rule. Plus it now only counted as a Hero slot!!!!

Not believing this, I contacted a different G.W store and was told the same thing!!!

Finally I contacted H.Q in Lenton and was told..... Yes the same thing AGAIN!!

So beware of those stunties my friends, the Goblin Hewer IS still aparently legal!!!

Sadly, calling GW shops and things isn't actually a way to prove something is legal. We'd need it on paper somewhere, or in a FAQ/Errata.

That's because the phone support/shops have said opposite things when it comes to rules, models and questions.

So no, no goblin hewer.

Being ex G.W I know that it may not be strictly legal, that's why I checked a few sources, and I found it VERY odd that I was told the same thing by all of them.

Yes it does ned FAQ'd, but, and this is a big but, it does appear that it can still be used..

Believe me I know how bad G.W can be, and they are supposed to be fonts of knowledge with the rules etc yadda, yadda, yadda but to be told the same thing is wierd for them, as there is normally some descrepency in their rulings. Plus in G.W stores the staff have final rulings on rules matters.

Who knows it may be making a come back in the new book!

Well, you can always use your opponent if you're allowed to use it in your Dwarf army. smile.gif (If you have one?)

Well it's like, I can't see why something from an old Storm of Chaos campaign could be legally used when DoW can't be. What about Doomseekers, then? Didn't you ask about those?

It's easier to ask the one you are playing, if he accepts it.

No sadly, I didn't ask about doom seekers, my guess is that they were for the Slayer Army, and were purely for SoC. DoW could be used by everyone regardless, so I think that's why you can't use them any more. Malakai was Hero level character for a Dwarf Army, which makes him a slightly different case.

I fully agree that it should ONLY be used with your opponents permission though.

Well the reason I'm so demanding about this is that I love the Goblin Hewer and would like to have it as part of my main army even in games against new opponents- it'd be great to have some physical evidence to point though, 's all sad.gif

What you should do is bring 2 lists, the only difference being in one you swap out the Goblin Hewer for some other warmachine. Then when you get to wherever you're playing you ask your opponent "Do you mind playing against the Goblin Hewer? Otherwise I have another Grudgethrower to use instead." or something. smile.gif

We're pretty liberal about such things in my area - I regularly use Long Drong's Slayer Pirates (the version from the 8th ed fan-made Dogs of War PDF), and once I finish my Goblin Hewer I'll be using it from the same rules source as well.

You just have to ask, and fully explain how it works at the start of the game (and probably every time you use it, and again if they are about to open themselves up to a flank shot) so someone isn't surprised by rules they've never seen before.

Problem isn't opponent, problem is me! I don't like using stuff that's not properly legal, it just doesn't feel... right.

You could always invent a time machine , go back in time and use it then!! I've got an old DeLorian car you might want to use.....

Trouble with SoC fluff and rules is that G.W is trying hard to make sure "It NEVER happened" much like having an old tramp standing in front of you waving his hand in your face and saying "these aren't the droids you're looking for"

Actually come to think of it, quite often in Summer the inside of a G.W store and an old tramp do smell VERY similar!!

tbh, i think having all GW employees say īsure itīs allowedī is like saying, "deal with it yourself, its not our problem anymore."

and really. it isn't. it's in collectors shop, there are no current rules for it and if you want to use one, ask the tournament organisers. Nobody else can say it but them.
