exactly. so actually. the cheaper the better. even 20 goblins can take one or two rounds of combat unless you face really killy troops. |

Hey,
I was the guy with the Mannfred army ![]() Since you guys asked, and Morten forgot to ask for it, here's the list: Count Mannfred /w Hellsteed (the lord version) Krell, Lord of Undeath Necromancer, lvl 2, Master of the Dead, Dispel Scroll Tomb Banshee 40 Zombies /w musician 12 ghouls 10 Dire Wolves 44 Skeletons /w full command, spears and the Screaming Banner 1 Spirit Host 17 Grave Guard /w Great weapons, full command and the Banner of the Barrows Mortis Engine /w Blasphemous Tome Terrorgheist I deliberately followed strict WYSIWYG for the tournament, so since I normally use the mounted Mannfred model for my mounted Vampire, I chose him, even though he's quite subpar (560 points /w the Hellsteed, no ward save possible). He's of course better without the steed since he can hide in a unit and get MR3 from some hero with the Obsidian item... Anyway, same goes for Krell - he's normally just a Wight King, but WYSIWYG and he's in as himself ![]() Rest of the list was pretty much just based on what I had/could get painted in time. There's no real tricks in the list - the guy who placed 3rd overall had a much more solid list - he got unlucky in a lot of games and lost his Lord early. I normally play in a comp'ed environment, so my selection of painted models is of course influenced by this as well. On the battle itself, I think it was the most enjoyable overall of the tournament - seemed pretty balanced overall, neither of us could really make it to the top position in the tournament at that point which always puts a dampener on everything, yet it was still a race for the tower in the middle! I was constantly afraid that I couldn't keep your guys away long enough before you got to the zombies in the tower. Overall, I think a solid tournament VC army carries a tooled out Vampire on foot with the usual combo of Red Fury+Quickstrike, Ogre Blade, 4+ ward and possibly one or two magic levels and possibly the Other Trickster's Shard. Place him in a 30+ Grave Guard /w GW unit with the +1 to hit banner and possibly a Wight King for e.g. a MR item or something. Add in one or two necromancers for raising and carrying arcane items, maybe even a master necro if you can fit him. It's important to have a backup lore of Vampire user. Fill up the rest of the hero slot with tomb banshees. Grab loads of zombies in big units for tarpits, use of ghouls isn't that necessary any more I think - I'd probably still take a unit of 10-20 to satisfy minimum Core allowance. Also take two units of 5 wolves. Special choices, besides the big unit of grave guard you might want to get some fell bats, possibly some vargheists, and at least two spirit hosts. Rare choice really only comes down to the Terrorgheist. This list has a very decent fighting core with the Grave Guard, some big tarpits, lots of screaming options, magic to keep it all going (raises primarily) and the utility units for handling most enemy tricks. Another build which I think you'll see in the non-comped environment as well is the Strigoi on Terrorgheist /w Scabscrath, two Terrorgheists more in Rare and hero slot filled with Tomb Banshees for even more screaming. Haven't seen it in action, nor will I ever field it myself - but I think it could get quite nasty. How to beat the Vampires? Go for the head - kill the lord and any Lore of Vampire user, and the crumbling should do the rest for you. The VC army has bad LD overall. |

thanks for uploading your list Hesse - I actually forgot to ask for the list in all games a played ![]() And i really like your WYSIWYG approach! I did the same with my orcs. Spears and shields is probably the worst build on orcs, but it just looks damn good I do have sword and bard orcs for more competitive games. Also, azhag might not be the best hero out there, but I actually find that doing those sub-optimal builds, aren't as terrible as the internet tends to do them. Same thing about giants, squig hoppers etc. They're much better than the internet often make them, or not nearly as terrible at least. I actually thought the game was pretty fun. It was really relaxed, but all those clipping charges, pursuits/overruns still had us flapping those rulebook pages ![]() Thanks for commenting mate |

Thanks mate ![]() Yeahr I use manglers on occasion, but I have yet to see them hit anything but chaff. They always gets gunned down og stepped on. Boar chariots on the half is far more resilient (being T5, W4 and 4+ save) They even add to combat resolution if needed. Not that I think those two serve the same purposes, but I'm just trying to support whyI don't find that manglers are musts in an O&G army ![]() Savages are good for some things... They deliver a ****load of S5 attacks, but they're not nearly as reliable as regular Big 'Uns, and I already had High strength attacks from both trolls, Black orcs and Wyvern... They would have been nice against the temple guard though ![]()
Thanks, my pleasure Glad you enjoyed it. And yeahr... The tournament organizer plays O&G himself and was fairly enjoyed when I was on table on with Azhag I actually think He was good though. Might not be über competetive, but not bad at all actually.I have two more coming up within long, I just won't post them before mid next month, as they're part of a campaign and might reveal armylists and tricks before all games are played ![]() |
