So, I thought it was time to sit down and sort out a theme for my army, and get myself nicely motivated to paint up a boatload of orcs for next years state champs.

I wanted something that would bring the force together, as up until now they have just been "the orc army". I was getting kind of sick of that, and not having a theme was not helping my (severe lack of) motivation. So. Time to get on track!

At this stage, I have alot of models painted, though there is a good chance that once I have painted up all my unpainted models, I will go back over them and re-paint with the new skin tone and army style that I have in mind.

So, what I have -

Painted -
Nil

Pre - Painted
30 Orc Boyz with sheild & Full Command
30 Orc Boyz with XHW & Full Command
20 Savage Orcs with XHW & Full Command
10 Savage Orc Boar Boyz
Savage Orc Shaman on Boar
Orc BSB
3 Stone Trolls
1 Boar Chariot
Orc Warboss on Wyvern
1 Giant
Orc Shaman
25 Black Orcs
2 x Mangler Squigs

Assembled -
"The As Yet Unnamed" Warboss
5 Boar Boyz
1 Rock Lobba
1 Doom Diver
1 Boar Chairot
20 Night Goblins with spears and shields
30 Orc Boyz with spears and shields
3 Trolls
10 Savage Orcs with XHW
3 Fanatics
1 Pump Wagon

Unassembled -
20 Savage Orcs
Grimgor Ironhide
40 Night Goblins
10 Goblin Wolf Riders
20 Orc Nobz (For characters, and the like)

Cripes. When you write it all down, its damn scary! Hopefully this weekend I can sit down and get an armywide photo to post up.

The plan is to get at least 5 models fully painted per week... we'll see how that goes blink.gif

That is quite an impressive list you have there.

The biggest thing for me when I started my army was picking a color. I know it's simple, but that could be the first step towards building a themed army.

That being said, any ideas on a unifying color?

I have my flesh tone pretty much picked out, I'm not sure whether to go with a red or a blue as a unifying colour. I like red, but I'd also like to do something just that little bit different, I havent seen many blues. Still undecided, is basically what I'm saying biggrin.gif

I'm being somewhat held up on starting by a minor commision, the fella and I are converting and painting some orcs to replace the Hero Quest models. Once that is done however, its full steam ahead. And hey, I can try out a few things on these models!

Edit - And here is what I got up to today

The models that are being replaced vs the new ones

A few hours later, and I'm probably calling it a night, work early tomorrow!

Regarding colour red is certainly more common, though it can look awesome: see Meyer's blog. On the other hand blue would make your army stand out from the crowd.

Ok, so I havent finished the boyz for the Heroquest replacement models, BUT, I did manage to get my hands on a decent camera and take some armywide photos.

The lighting available to me was pretty terrible, so I do apologize for that, but you get the idea anyway.

Heh, the photos have sort of made the giant look a bit better than he should - That skin is nothing more than Tallarn, Ogryn Flesh wash and a heavy Tallarn drybrush - In fact I painted the whole model in about an hour (This is what happens when you leave painting your tourney army til the last minute)

I think I'm going to stick with the skin tone I have, I've been experimenting with a few other recipes but I like the overall look of the one I have, its nice and dark. If anything, I'll just put an extra highlight on what I've already got to make it pop a little more.

Oh god, so much to paint...

Don't knock drybrushing... it can give you some amazing effects in a quarter of the time... biggrin.gif

So, I've been horribly slack, playing LOTRO and Warhammer has taken a back seat. However - I present the start of my Savage Orc Spear Chukka conversion

So this is the start. The idea is the waving hand will be chopped, and will be grabbing the other rope. However, as this crew is supposed to be crippled, I will be replacing the hand with a hook.

Still working on ideas for the rest of the crew, and the base, but its all coming together, and I'm loving how it looks so far! Still got some greenstuffing on the first arm yet.

Thoughts?

Edit - And the other arm done, just greenstuffing and little details now. Sorry about the light, its dark in here!

Looking forward to seeing the one armed one legged savage orc XD.

I love the spear chukka, it looks much better with both arms drawing the bow string back inho.

Nice! I really like the idea, that is one strong orc! I would say that the hook is a little big but that is a minor complaint and only my opinion... A very good start!
