Hello dere da warpath!
I'm a new memba joining in the ranks of the green. I can recognize quite a few faces around here from other forums, mainly the waaagh n stuff biggrin.gif
Hi there ladz soapbox.gif

As this is me first post i'll start by introducing meself-
(it's a long first post, skip this one to the army parts if not interested please wink.gif )

i'm down here from São Paulo in Lustria/Brasil, and we have a fledgling gaming comunity. We had our first official GW event last 2008 and now it kinda sank down cuz they sold stuff at incredibly high prices... anyways, we don't have any LGS and we can't buy stuff on a whim, it's got to be all imported. Thanks to the interweb and stores like maelstrom, we finally started getting access to the models we need- although with a 1 month delay for shipping- it has been a giant step for all of us down here on the southern hemisphere...

Anyways, i started my GW hobby by wanting to go into fantasy, but due to lack of players here in me town i swapped to 40k where i jumped headlong into orkz and discovered my love for conversion and crazy customizations. I ain't much of a player, more hobbyist so not many competitive goals for me. and now people are starting to try out fantasy around these part's, so i'll be jumpin' on the bandwagon so i don't get left out of the fun smile.gif
When i started WHFB it was with dark elves with the old armybook, and despite the new overpower armybook, i have yet to win a single game. i got whipped 4 ou of 4 games, i'm not bothered by that fact, but it has been very frustrating to not be able to adapt to the system- i played cav heavy and yet got charged every 9 out of 10 times, and my melee characters never see combat. a bit frustrating cuz at 40k i'm reasonably good, but anyways, bottom line is: i suck at fantasy. Nobody has taken the time to teach me so i just keep drowning in the rules... despite being a prolific forum browser- i read the theory and reread the rulebook plenty of times, but i just can't get it right! must be my greenskin genes! laugh.gif

But then i had a realization. As my games are more fluffy or fun oriented, i thought i'd start O&G so i could enjoy my matches like i enjoy with my space orkz- my only reason for not having O&G originally was that i find the Orc's models themselves very ugly. But not the gobbos! They have to be the funniest fantasy models around, and their status as underdog crap army/bufoons got me decided- if i'm gonna get whipped, at least i'll get whipped having fun! Yup, entertainment instead of cursing cuz i couldn't get any of my charges off cuz i misplaced my charger's out of line os sight tongue.gif

all of wich finally lead to my army! yarr.gif
I still don't have the armybook, but I've recently purchased plenty of night gobbos, and a few goodies. I have no idea of how much i have, but i read all the WHQs and lots of usefull articles here at da warpath to pick my units. So now i've got to ask you ladz about some tips for modeling these ladzes!
there's the pic for all the stuff i got so far
user posted image

funny fact- i bought those painted BFSP gobbos from a friend, and i actually helped him paint them when i didn't play fantasy, and nowadays i ended up owning them laugh.gif Must be mork and gork blessing me! I still have to add some dags onto their hoods like i've seen many warbosses doing around 'ere. only thing I'm not thrilled about is the basing though, it looks very flat and plain. prolly will switch to sand and static grass... open to suggetions

Da Kunnin' Plan

Rules wise what's gonna happen:
1- Night gobbos for the win! they have crap leadership, weak, sneaky and just plain worst race out there! So that means they are cheap as hell- so i'll take a monstrous horde of a core. 150+ gobbos if i can

2- Random army theme! I don't mean different theme's but i mean the randomness of the units is the theme! I figured, that since i suck at fantasy, i'll just go ahead and make a very random army so i can blame my incompetence on the dice laugh.gif I figured i'd use many squighoppers, squigherd bombs, many many fantics, giants, rock lobbaz and doom divers galore. Oh yes, and dumb trolls of course, although stupidity ain't exactly what i'm looking for. Am i missing something random from the armylist?

3- I like squigs. They eat things, and from what i've heard, they are very nasty, so they are gonna be in!

Model wise what's gonna happenz:
1- I want to represent my nightgobbos as a very anarchic army, so i wish to make those multimodel bases so that i can get them to stand in crooked ranks, with some funny things happening n' stuff. like the army by Ben Brooks on the O&G collector's catalouge. i also wanted to reposition some arms/spears so that they would looked less uniform in ranks to represent their disorganization.

2- I want to make many troll's looking dumb and i'll prolly make a 10 strong troll unit- that WPQ article got me sold on 10 strong units of trolls. I'll convert them extensively (later i'll post some of me sculpts and conversions for 40k)

3- i want very special characters so they stand out- but i don't know how legal or good are those heroes with bigger bases (like a NGboss on a 2x2 base)... i got scarsnik on that huge rock formation, so i guess that's legal i think... is it?

4- I think i'll sculpt and cast my own squigs- the GW ones are nice but i think i'll ave some cash making my own. prolly will make a boss on a cavesquig also!

5- paintwise, after ive converted, based and assembled all my gobbo rank and file, i think i'm going to line them up and use my airbrush to spray them codex gray then wash everything down and do a production line- i decided to mass paint this army after seeing what Silver did with his washed orcs! If you read this Silverheimdall, a toast to you- you got me conviced to start Ngoblins! quick and easy wif good results wub.gif

What i got so far:
3 boxes of BFSP 120spear gobbos+60archers+3 trolls+15spiders
10 NG spears from the paining set
7 more trollz
1 catapult
many crews for warmachines
1 wolf chariot
some snotlings (no idea how many bases they form)
rackham archers
scarsnik and gobbla
4 fanatics
1 squighopper
a few doomdiver bitz- the slinshot and the base
user posted image
so i suppose the first things to buy would be to get the armybook and a box of Night goblins for the netters right?

any suggestions are very welcome!

edit: imageshack has been acting up, i reposted the pic of the assembled stuff so far...

wow, welcome...nice introduction ....and huge starting army.

Just a tip, lots of people consider spears for Night gobs as a waste of points, so you might wanna convert a few so that they have handweapons.

With the snotling, i dont think there are any rules about how many should go on a base. So just splash out with scenery and you can get quite a few bases out of them.

Welcome to da warpath.

Looks like you'll be busy for a while with all that painting. Start a blog and keep us updated with pics of your army as it progresses.

thank you for the welcome ladz!
@borkbork:geez, thats the problem, i don't know how they behave in game so i have to field test them AND model them, so that leaves me with a dilemma- how do i test these models before assembling them tongue.gif i'll figure out something-
Snotlings will be varied then, between 2 or 3 models per base
@paiant slapa: I'll be posting questions here and making a blog as soon as i start the works on the models themselves... i am starting to clean and assemle another box of BFSP right now. cleaning mold lines actually
@Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull: thank you!

I shall post my modeling concerns here on the modeling logs.

My first big concern is those multi model bases- i wanted to make my army with "fillers" by making those ranks like if they were all crooked and disorganized. maybew some mini dioramas with the gobbos squabbling amongst themselves or something, like those i mentioned from Ben Brooke's horde.

1- how do i make these multiple bases- do people glue together normal bses and fill the gaps with putty, do they "bridge" them with plasticard to tie together? or do they sell them ready?

2- what size works best- i thought of making it like this- 1st rank is based individually in normal fashion, then second and third ranks make up a 5x2 base, fourth rank makes a 5x1 base, and after that i make normal ranks... issue is, i don't know what size mobs i'll make- prolly a 21 NG block is the smallest i'll field, but i'm not sure on width or exactly how i should make these multibase because i'm not familiar with casualty removal and how these ranks would affect my ladz...
dunno, for big core blocks, perhaps make this (5normal)+(5x2)+(5x1)+(X normal) and have smaller flanking blocks (5normal)+(5x1)+(5x1)+(Xnormal)

I realize that NG barely kill oposing models- 1 at best and that we depend on static CR and flank charges to win, but i've seen people taking 7 wide formations... i was considering making huge core blocks with the general and banner standing in it- something like a 60 NG block, is there some kind of theory or article on that somewhere? i'm not sure if it would work. i've searched but me search fu is kinda weak...

C&C on multi bases (or whatever theyr called) are very welcome!
*off to cutting out sprues...*

yeah, glue them together and fill the gaps

but also support them, some people use card, others use old pieces of sprue, basicly anything works

They make 40mm x 40mm bases for many flyers and monsters. They also have regiment bases that are 20mm x 80mm and will hold 4 goblins. Both of those might be good options for what you need.

@borkbork: got it! i'll show some progress once i get to basing them. for now, i heeded your tip and converted about 43 gobbos from basic BFSP speargobbos into hand to hand Night gobbos in the easiest fashion chop off the spear shafts!
@mysticaria: thanks! i'll try to personalize the bases once i gert a hang of casualty removal, and perhaps get some ready made ones.

So, i got a lot of work done, spent sunday afternoon and a couple of hours tonight and managed to make some 40ish spear gobbos into HtH+shield gobbos. I cut all their arms and wrists and made their speartips into short swords.

user posted image
twisted their wrists and arms to make them different poses- i hate these uniform stances- i did the same thing to my 40k assault on black reach orks- repositioned all 60 arms for the sake of variety
i hadn't seen it done but i figured its pretty obvious... when i was done with it, it looked a bit crude , like they were gobbos with their spears shortened (and they are tongue.gif ) so i decided i'd sculpt some big pommels on their swords so it looks like they had real hand weapons from the start. I like the effect so far, and was considering sculpting some hand guards on the swords, but they are reasonably convincing to me as they are. kinda ninjaesque or chinese pommel style.

do you guys think i should add wrist guards to the swords or are they good enough as is? i'm actually feeling kinda lazy ATM after slaving over them for so long... hehehe

C&C very welcome.

All that cutting and bending and twisting and no bleeding fingers?

If you're fingers can stand more, a few wrist guards scattered about could give it some more variety, but I also think they look fine as they are.
