Hello fellow generals,
I recently got into a conversation with a friend of mine regarding a popular (and IMHO borderline OP) choice for Lizardmen Lists. - Slaan magepriest with "becalming cogitation", Lore of Light, Cupped Hands - 40 strong Temple guard horde - Slaan uses Speed of Light / Birona's Timewarp into his unit constantly So, the question posted is: what do you (usually) do about it ? I was thinking challenge the slaan, but he said that is not possible (I'm not really familiar with the Lizards' rules). Then I said "sniper", but again he said "not possible". Then I thought about purple-cheesing the unit, but then becalming cogitation jumped to mind. So... What is the greenskins BEST option to deal with this combo ? Thanks in advance for your wisdom |

Purple Sun will allow a Look Out, Sir! roll, so while not impossible, it's not very effective. I recommend a couple of good old-fashioned 'Eadbutts. Failing that, decimate the unit with Foot of Gork, then send some Savages or Blorcs in there to mop up.

Purple Sun does NOT allow look out, sir. Otherwise, Rothgar's advice is pretty much what I'd do as well.
Take a lvl4 Orc with some anti-dispel item (like the one wich lets you re-roll the miscast result) and have at it! Theo |

Because it doesn't. Pretty sure the "Every model under the template" overrides look out sir, since look out sir is basic rules and this is considered advanced, or something. Anyway, I've only ever seen people say "no" and whining about that they should allow Lo,S! saves as a suggested fix. ![]() Theo This post has been edited by theorox on Feb 22 2012, 09:21 AM |

Because the rules are stupid! The biggest problem with many of the uber spells, is that they doesn't allow Lo'S rolls, making them just as good at killing characters, as the spells that are supposed to kill characters. Many tournaments allow a Lo'S roll from the big deathstar killing spells though. This post has been edited by Morten C on Feb 22 2012, 09:38 AM |

No, you can use them against some other things as well. Champions get a Lo,S! if they are hit by any template, characters wich are close to units get this against any shooting attack (but not spells) and if a character is in a unit he gets the same Lo,S! as champions get as long as the unit he is in has the same trooptype he does and contains at least 5 rank and file models, whether the champion counts for this is unclear, but dubious as the Lo,S! box in the champion rules say that the champion doesn't count towards those 5... Screwed up? Yes.Theo |

Purple Sun gives a look out sir since it's a template.

Well it should, but does it? I guess I'll take your word for it, but I could have sworn that it specifically didn't...can't find it anywhere, though. ![]() Theo |

Just like how you get a LoS against Pit of Shades
You don't get a LoS versus Dwellers or Final transmutation though, since they aren't templates. Maybe you were thinking of those? This post has been edited by Squigkikka on Feb 22 2012, 12:02 PM |

I think the problem with 'look out sir' is that in the champions entry it says it works on all template attacks, but under the characters entry it is under 'shooting attacks'. So RAW it would mean that champions get look out sir vs all template attacks but characters would only benefit form it against shooting attacks.
I cannot find any rules that would prevent the slan to be sniped, what page are they? |

Piccolo, check page 8 of the FAQ under "Weapons"
There it states that the Look out sir rule also applies to spells that use templates. This post has been edited by Squigkikka on Feb 22 2012, 01:22 PM |

Thanks for the replies. Squigkikka is right. The LoS stuff is covered under the FAQ. I thought about the sun too, but I think the Slaan will dominate the magic phases, and cancel out any chance of getting the sun through via IF thanks to that becalming cognitation thingie...
I don't know, I don't have the Lizards' rulebook I'm looking at the unit description in "Army Builder" and it says something about his unit blocking his LOS. Maybe that prevents it ? Can anyone clarify this please ? |
