Hi everyone. sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but none of the other forums seemed to fit.

Recently i have began an orc and goblin army (although at this point all i have painted is a unit of twenty goblins and a lone troll) and i am now thinking about the purchase of some orc rank and file. However, the ones from GW are very expensive in Australia and dont really fit my theme (vaguely diciplined greenskins, so lots of black orcs and the trolls will have handlers, ect). Therefore, does anyone know of alternative orc producers. particularly the generic boys.

thankyou

yeah, i was thinking of them, but my only experience of their stuff is their dwarf range which quite frankly is bloody awful to paint. still, i think i would rather buy mantic than GW at this point. any others you can think of?

Westwind perhaps? The pics aren't that great but they look to have a vaguely disciplined look to them. They're also GBP11 for 10 so they should compare favourably on a cost-basis relative to GW. The only thing that could be problematic is the postage costs as I've heard they're a bit steep (although I haven't ordered from them so I could well be wrong).

Does anyone have any bigger pictures of the westwind ones?

Can't really tell anything from the tiny piocs on the site.

Also, an alternative would be to buy the 6th edition starter set ones.
The have their arms in the air, but if you'd cut these off and position them downwards and then add a shield they could appear pretty disciplined.

21p per Orc, I think its about 1p per shield!

If you want cheap Orcs look no further, and you can order specific unit sizes!

Holy bloody moley! 7.70 for 50! i wonder what the scale is between these guys and GW orcs. These look just about ideal. sure, mono-pose, but that sort of adds to the diciplined effect.

thanks mate!

HeroQuest orcs are dirt cheap if you find them on ebay. They are smaller than the current GW range though.

Na we are lucky here that the GW store is not the biggest one in town, we have a 3 storey wargaming store with over 15 tables, mainly adult gamers who are relaxed about models/proxys etc.

I use squigs moulded from Fimo so im sure my Dwarfs will be deemed legal!

1.2-3 inch base size? Thats bigger than a cavalry base, are you sure?

More cheap Orcs.

Felt obliged to share this one too.

Some of my dwarf army are from Kings Of War and the quality is very good, dead easy to assemble too.

Check out the Avatars of War section on that site for some awesome Character models. Love the Goblin King and the Orc ones look brutal. My Dwarf Characters are Avatars of War models and they rock - Really want the Orc Warboss, but then what do I do with my Grimgor that I spent ages painting about 10 years ago?

Do the Mantic ones compare and mix well with the GW ones? I've got a lot of the GW orcs but need to bulk up a few units, would they work ok in a mixed unit? it's difficult to tell from the pictures.

Not really. The mantic orcs are in true scale, and come out a lot smaller than the GW heroic scale models. Can't remember who's blog it was on, but people did some comparisons, an it didn't look like they'd fit well at all. Just get on ebay and you'll find a couple of cheap lots if you're patient...
