Title: Escalation League Advice

So our local meta is going to hold an escalation league that will start out at 750 pts. The rules are no special characters otherwise list composition remains the same. (And League points are earned by many different factors with winning being only a small factor. Beginner friendly.)

To start with I am having an issue with my general choice. Should I go with a BO WB for the high leadership and heavy hitting power mounted on a Boar for mobility and +2 Armor Saves? Or should I go with an Orc Great Shaman becuase at this point level Magic will be very powerful.

Niether choices gives me a BSB and I am pretty much going to have 3 units no matter how I play with it.

What would you do? Heavy Hitter that will survive or a Powerful Shaman able to focus his magic more effectively?

I am going to test both and will start with the BO WB outside the League.

Of course if neither work out I can always go the cheap Night Goblin route and just overwhelm them.

Well here is what I'd do and what I am considering entering to get my painting up to scratch. All costs are from memory so maybe out a little

Night Goblin Shaman - 95
Level 1, Dispel Scroll, Ironcurse Icon

Goblin BSB - 70
Standard of Discipline

20 Night Goblins - 80
Short Bows, Musician, Standard Bearer

5 Wolf Riders - 60
Spears, Shields

5 Wolf Riders - 60
Spears, Shields

6 Trolls - 210

Squig Herd - 110 pts
10 Squigs, 10 Night Goblins

Mangler Squig - 65

Total 750 Points

Trolls are your frontline unit with the Squigs taking up a flanking position on one side and the Mangler on the other, the bunker at the back keeps Leadership in range and a position of safety for the General and BSB. Wolf Riders do what they do best and annoy the hell out of an opponent.

Ah yes, the Night Goblin list. This is my second list I am going to go with if the Orc Boyz don't pull me through my trial games.

This type of list is in my mind but first I am wondering what the Orc Mob can do at this point level.

I'm not entirely sure what the Orc Boy will do at this level as I typically never used a single Orc until upwards of 1850 points ;)

An Ld6 army with so much relying on the trolls seems VERY risky to me. Personally, I'd like a small unit of SOBUs. 12 without any command can still inflict carnage, even after losing a few, and they cost peanuts. Personally, I'd go with something like:

1 Orc Lvl 2 shaman, Opal amulet
1 NG BSB, Standard of disc
12 SOBUs with AHW
31 NG with nets, standard and champion
6 Trolls ( or a decent sized squig herd if you have the models, like 21 squigs with 14 handlers)
1 Mangler Squigs

This way, the characters can be put with the Night goblins so you have a Ld8 army with a reroll which should see you through the worst of it. Still plenty of hitting power, and some useful magic. The shaman will be somewhat survivable with the nets, Opal Amulet and being on the far end of the unit.
With three units, a decent amount of bodies on the table and an annoying mangler, this should pose some problems for many opponents.
