Title: 2400pts Post Tournament Goblins
Description: Updated list after pompey pillage

amplebob - July 25, 2012 12:38 PM (GMT)
Hi,

This is my updated list from the one I ran at pompey pillage... (found here: http://z3.invisionfree.com/Orc__Goblin_War...howtopic=31615)

Black orc warboss
- Sword of strife, Enchanted shield, Talisman of preservation

Orc Great Shaman
- lvl4, Earthing rod

Goblin warboss
- Giant spider, dragonbane gem, charmed shield, light armour, Sword of striking

Night goblin shaman
- lvl1, dispel scroll, ruby ring of ruin

Night goblin big boss
- Batlle standard bearer, opal amulet, light armour, shield

59 night goblins
- full command, spears, netters, 2 fanatics

21 night goblins
- musician, bows, 3 fanatics

5 spider riders
- musician

5 spider riders
- musician

Squig herd
- 14 goblins, 30 squigs

6 trolls
Wolf chariot
Wolf chariot
Doom diver
Doom diver
Mangler squig
Mangler squig
Rock lobber

Pump wagon
- outrigga, exploding spores

Total 2400

Explanation for changes:
- The black orc is in because squabble just cost me fair too much over the course of my games. If i'd been able to murder a few goblins to keep tactical coherency it would have helped massively
- More controversially i've made my shaman an orc instead of a goblin... I just find the lore of the little waagh doesn't give you enough in the early turns of the game to make a difference.
- I've added a 2nd mangler because people are terrified of them and they can really bring the pain
- I've dropped the spear chukka's cause they struggled to make an impact.
- I've swapped out the baor chariot for another wolf chariot because the extra movement makes all the difference....

Finally, I would run wolf riders instead of spiders, but I do not yet have the models and it kinda goes against the theme of my army...

Any comments would be appreciated. cheers.

I cringe when I see no ward saves on the lvl 4 or the BSB....

I listed in the other thread that a cheap hero with MR can save your bunker from Death snipes...especially if you actually give them a ward save!!!

Thats a very good point about the ward saves groznit, though I do have the one use 4++ on the bsb. I really like the MR idea to counter death magic a lot.

Going to be taking almost the above list against lizardmen tonight. Going to have to drop a mangler for a pump wagon due to model constraints though...

I would agree Orc magic is better than goblin magic but being an orc means the shaman will have to stick on the outside of the unit.

Personally I wouldn't be concerned about the lack of ward saves much.

Well, I ended up against quite an unconventional lizardmen list… Guess they were going for the monster mash…

Carnosaur, 2 skink priests, scar vet bsb, 3 stegadons, 4 skink units, 1 big block of saurus, an a couple of single salamanders.

The plan was to sit back and stop his stegadon rush, then jump forwards and swarm the saurus in the later turns. It began well. I was able to mostly negate/destroy his stegs with the squigs, mangle spider and artillery, the spider warboss also ate through some skinks and a salamander. I had him really on the back foot, but squabbles again really cost me. I kept his carnosaur away from my army for the first 3 turns while I was sat back, but in the crucial moments when I needed to run forwards (and away from the monster) animosity struck. Turn 3 my bunker failed animosity and hit my big night goblin block (negating the Black orc’s quelling ability). In turn 4 the bunker failed again, meaning I had to try and run my characters off into other units to keep them safe. The carnosaur nimbly avoided the predations of catapults and my big block all day and hit into the bunker. On turn 5 I combo charged his saurus block with squigs in the front and trolls (with orc shaman attached) and goblin spider warboss in the side. I needed to kill 1 more to remove steadfast, but they held… In his turn 6 the carnosaur fresh from eating the bunker rear charged the squigs. He won the combat and the exploding squigs killed the goblin warboss, while everything failed is ld test. In my final turn the only action was to try and kill the last 2 saurus with my doom divers, but both scattered off…

Ended up as a 12-8 loss.

The annoying thing for me about this game, is that even despite the squabbles I could have won if I’d done just 1 thing differently. I forgot that his carnosaur would get frenzy after wounding the goblins in the bunker. So it would have had to overrun. I could have just angled the bunker so that he wouldn’t be able to see the big combat after charging it… Oh well, I’ll know for next time.

I didn’t really get much play from the orc magic, due to a combination of cube of darkness, squabbling and low dice when I didn’t squabble. But I enjoyed being able to character snipe…

In a 2nd game, with a slightly different list against VC, I did get to experiment with orc magic a little more. Foot of gork was plenty of fun, and hand of gork also worked great. I'm looking forward to getting more experience with the lore.

@bounce: the orc magic does seem like it has slightly more potential, but I like having the chance of getting itchy nusciance too... Might play with a lvl 2 goblin in support... The shaman does seem ok on the corner of either goblin block...

Have had another game with the above list, few changes cause I still dont have a 2nd mangler made.
- 2 spear chukkas instead of mangler
- talisman of preservation on the lvl4 instead of the black orc warboss

Played empire. My mate wrote up a report here...

Post game thoughts:
Might make the general a normal orc and change the bsb to a black orc. Means I can keep the lvl 4 in the bunker and casting spells every phase. Would need to change the general's kit though, but I think its worth it.

Your link seems to have failed its panic test and fled from the thread. Would love to read the battle report though. :yarr!:

Ha, yeah... my opponent failed his own panic test an ran off to italy for a week instead of finishing his bat rep. he did get the first couple turns written, but then went away...

I'll summarise cause I dont know whether he'll get this done or not...
Turn two, y large night goblin block with general and lvl1 scroll caddy roll 12 and then 10 on a panic test and then quit the board. Despite my best efforts for the rest of the game having a 650pt handicap didn't help and I lost 18-2 in tourney pts...
