Title: Goblin Bsb In Orc Unit
Psycho - July 4, 2012 12:33 PM (GMT)
Hello fellowz
i think about a goblin bsb on spider in my unit of orc boar boys. he can take the spider banner that ONLY can be taken by goblin bsb and so the whole unit of boar boys get poison attacks.
likewise a night goblin bsb who can take the bad moon banner, so the orcs count in soft cover and dangerous terrain test at charge but not stubborn cause it says "N.G. models in the unit.."
are these viable solutions or do i get something wrong??
thx
Joe

It's legal but not very good. The Bad Moon is just a bad idea in any circumstances. The Spider Banner is good, but your BSB will die too easily in a unit of Boar Boyz. Though poison in a big unit of Savage Boar Boyz at least has the potential to be good. A lot of dice that might roll a 6 there.

If you use the Bad Moon Banner you really must use it in a big unit of night goblins to make it useful.
I have blocked and held a lot of knights with that kind of a unit, specially if the nets work properly ;)

Poison Banner can be good, and if you also get the poison spell
Bad Moon Banner is also a good one, to make a unit Stubborn, and even if you are with an orc unit that lonesome nightgoblin is Stubborn on the highest leadership in the unit.
Thats a way to have to tricky Stubborn units.

I'm not with you here!!! If you have A BIG UNIT of goblins, they should be Stubborn because of Steadfast.

The funny thing about the Bad Moon is that it works on any unit, hah. Why? Well, because the Night Goblin BSB is a Night Goblin unit, and since he's stubborn, now the entire unit is stupporn. Voila!
Bit of an oversight really, too bad the banner is awful.

@Squigkikka I have heard several people say it is an aweful banner, but I can't understand why that opinion exists, can you give me a few examples/reasons?

i would say that your bsb would become the squishiest thing in the unit... i would think he'll be the first thing to die, therefore you'd lose stubborn and flee anyway... i would certainly be allocating attacks against him.
BSBs with magic banners can be really effective, putting him in a unit with little/no protection that is going to be at the front of your first combat seems pretty risky
Big problem is that NG Big bosses only mount option is GCS... they cannot be put on a spider or wolf so the whole discussion is moot.

The bad moon banner is crappy magic object really. It can only be picked by a NG big boss that has -1Ld comparing to the common goblin and also there are better banners to use in our army.
It grants you stubborn. Maybe at the beginning you think is a great add, and it is. Stubborn is one of the best abilities in the game, but think for a second. If you include him in a NG or common goblin unit, that unit will be most probably steadfast, so that ability is pointless for them and it doesn’t have much sense to include this guy in a smaller unit.
If you want to include it in an orc unit, he will be always in the first rank as his base size is smaller. He will die easily to any close combat attack and that unit will lose all the benefits. And hey, you have crown of command for something ;).
The soft cover is nice, but we have the same problem of spending a NG BSB for just porting this banner. If that banner could be included in any unit without needing a BSB, it would be a different story. An orc big un unit with this banner would be great :D.
