Am I mistaken, or was this just released today??? Talk about being a fast painter!!!

I have to say I am not entirely sold on the models pose, reckon I will have to see it in the flesh before shelling out for it myself.
You have done a nice job on it though, the blood on the axe stands out for me, realistic and not over the top, its easy to make blood look bad but you have pulled it off. :)

Element Games? Aren't you the people who bribe TmaRichards into promoting you? ;)
Just kidding! Awesome painting there, both on the bigboss and the shaman. Very vibrant yet natural-looking colours. :)

I am having difficulties working out the quoting function on the forum, apologies if this looks strange (am mortally afeared of technology :o )
@Guru
They were yes, I painted them both together though which saves time mixing colours (you'll notice the skin is exactly the same, and I've shared on cloth, bone etc as well), it took 1/2 a day or so between them, loved every moment though, I really encourage people to get their mitts on them, they're good enough that they have really made me want a Greenskin Army!
@Theorox
Haha, we are yes :D, I run E.G with a business partner (he's the brains, I paint things and play toy soldiers badly..) and given that I love Tom's reports we were keen to get him on board from the start.
Cheers, the skin is basically goblin green with a thraka wash, and then 3 highlights adding sunburst yellow, simple but hopefully effective.
@GrinninGobbo
I've got to disagree with you unfortunately, I absolutely love it, he looks like a beefcake, and by GW standards the proportioning is actually pretty accurate! One thing I would say is to wait until you've seen it in real life before you make your final judgement, it's very hard to get a proper idea of these from a few single shots.
Cheers regarding the blood, that's possibly the nicest thing anyone's ever said about my blood :blush:
I wrote a tutorial about gore here if you're interested:
http://elementgames.co.uk/forums/viewforum.php?f=20@Theorox Thank you very much, here's some more just for you! Also a link to a video (first time I've tried it, I'm still working things out, but please let me know your thoughts on it, good or bad).
Both are up on eBay now (apologies if the self-plugging offends anyone, I paint full time!):
Here's a linkAll pictures are links to my O+G Gallery:

There's a video of the little chap as well, but I think he was just too tiny for my camera to handle, both in photo and video form; which is a shame, because the model's amazing.
http://www.youtube.com/user/ElementGamesUK/videosThank you for looking, and as ever I'm open to all criticism!

Hello all, I have bitten the bullet and decided that this year is the year I paint myself an O+G army, I'm trying to push the boat out and improve my edge-highlighting, and highlighting in general, with an emphasis on traditional painting and leaving my airbrush, drybrush, and washes out of it for the most part.
Here is my test model:
(All pictures are links to my O+G Gallery)
Tester:

Horrible task of flattening out Cav Bases:

WiPs:

And my last month or twos work (they're taking a while!)

I've not got a proper 2400 list done yet, but I'm working towards a 500pt list of roughly this:
Chars-Orc General
-Night Goblin shaman
Core-20 Night Goblins, Nets, Std, Muso
Special
-5 Squig Hoppers
-Spear Chukka
-5 Savage Orc Boarboys

Holy zoggin upside down bases that fit together to make a seemless floor! Inspired! What a great simple idea, an its so effective. Never seen that before. Skills.
Night goblins looking good, especially like the mushrooms. Dont envy you trying to paint up this kind of army without using drybrushing, washes or an airbrush though. Would drive me mad...
500pt list looks ok. Played a lot at this level last year. Nets not really worth it at this point level i don't think, an 2 characters is very tricky to pull off.
Good luck keeping this going and in your games.

Cheers amplebob, I saw the upside-down bases somewhere else ages ago, unfortunately I can't give them credit as I've forgotten where!
Tah for the list feedback, to fit some more units into my 500pt list (also enabling to save characters for later when I get sick of rank and file) I think I'm going to drop the Lvl one for now, not sure what I'll put in instead though, maybe a pump wagon, the list would certainly look cute on the table, little bit of everything.
I'll get some pictures of the unit of 25NGs later this week, it's all but finished, I think I'm going to do squiggies next!

Excellent stuff as always Byronic.
A little too clean night goblins for my taste, but they are painted to a very high standard.
An army painted like that is most gamers' dream. B)

Tah bud, I'll get some all but finished unit shots tonight hopefully! They're taking a huge amount of time on my part, so it's really nice to get good feedback :).

Tah bud, that's made my morning :). You make a good point; I have actually been umming and ahhing about dirtying the bottom of the little chaps robes since I started, still can't make my mind up!
I think I'm going to stick with the clean approach in an attempt to make sure all of the highlights really stand out, but when the army is done I am going to look at the basing as whole to see what else needs to be added, and will definitely consider making them a little bit more dity at the same time (possibly pigments).
I've written a couple more tutorials which may be useful (click picture for link):
How to paint planking bases:

How to make planking bases:

I may attempt to scratch build a pumpwagon out of balsa wood at some point, it's such a brilliant material to work with!
As ever all feedback welcome, I am going to do a couple more planking colour scheme recipes, so if you have any requests let me know, next on the cards is probably a fairly warm red-brown scheme.

Hey, you're Element Games Byron! :) I didn't realize that until now. Damn Tom Richards and his viral marketing techniques. :lol:
Great-looking stuff, I really like the purple! Doing that thing you do with the bases is crazy.

Haha, I am, running the store is why I get so little time for painting :).
A couple of progress shots, I've been getting up super early before work to get more than a hobby half hour in if possible and have been making a bit of headway, slow progress but progress nonetheless!

Excellent work all round, but special kudos for the colour of the squigs.
I've never understood why fungus found in caves would be bright blood red (my own tend to be pale greys and blues), so people taking a logical decision to move away from the canon earn my respect.
(And yes, I do appreciate that we're not exactly talking reality here ... )

Cheers :).
You're completely right, mine're bright red because it's the spot colour I'm going to use throughout the army to tie things together and make it pop :), entirely aesthetic choice. Also I couldn't figure out how to do the type of fungus you get in caves, rather than outdoors, which tends to be nondescript in terms of shape.
If it helps these gobbos have just left their caves and are on their way to war, think of the basing as the scree slopes (made flat.... :s).
Urm, my argument is beginning to fail...
...Squiggies!

Shadowlord - March 19, 2013 08:44 PM (GMT)
Smooth a usual and quite the eye candy.
That small unit is going to get smashed though... :ph43r:
Kees (aka Ghenkadh) - March 20, 2013 10:10 AM (GMT)
Together with the mushrooms and the goblins the colour of the squigs is outstanding! Fine painting that is, fine painting!
grtz,
Kees

looking great byronic, and cheers for the Tutes posting, i need all the help i can get.
i also like how you've gone with yellow/white eyes opposed to the usual red on the goblins.

By other Chaff? Caus thats what it's going up against. I for one think squig hoppers are underrated!
And great painting on the models btw. They look super nice :)

Hi, I have got 40 night goblins with spears undercoated black and was going to respray the cloacks all purple but after looking at your units i like the effect of purple just on the hoods i was having a quick read but couldnt find any tips, So heres my question, what colour mixes, washes and edging paints do you use for the purple? Dont worry i wont copy your theme entirely i want to paint the spears red and and have some gold trim in there with the symbols of musician and herder etc, any advice would be great thanks :)

Cheers guys :), this unit is going to be ran in my 500pt army, so a smaller size doesn't matter too much, as I expand into 1k points etc I'm going to up the size of the units a little.
I plan on using them for going after chaff, if I come against a skink army them getting no reactions when charging would be pretty nice :D. I think they're going to take a fair bit of practice to get used to though, so far one of their major pluses seems to be no animosity! I'll be popping a character in there on a giant squig as well, lovely model!.
@Gorks Tah bud!
@Hamish
There's no complications in my purple, I've adopted a simple scheme with this army, which is; 'If in doubt add 'skeleton bone' (Army Painter bleached bone equivalent).
The process is simple, it just demands a little patience.
Undercoat:
Black
Basecoat:
Spray Liche Purple (these days Xereus Purple) from above, and lightly from all over (just to leave the shadows a little darker).
Highlight:
Add Skeleton Bone for 3 or 4 layers.
That's it, I take my time, and highlight gradually smaller and smaller areas, the skeleton bone is a beautiful layering paint, I love it!
