Title: Savage Orc Warboss/big Boss
Description: Equipment and Uses

With the new savage orc with great weapon model coming out, I've been thinking of how I may include either a SO Warboss/Big Boss into my army plans. I can't recall seeing them used, almost ever, in the Army Lists I've looked at and they seem to come up very rarely in the various discussions on this site.
1) Do you run one currently? If so, what role do you give them within your army and how do you equip them?
2) Do you plan on trying one out in the future? If so, what role will you give them within your army and how will you equip them?
3) Is it unfluffy to run one with magical armor? Will you do it? I'm leaning towards "No" based on the model and concept at this point.
The ward save they come with seems to be real issue IMO, as either you'll want to pair them up with a Shrunken Head shaman and end up with an "all eggs in one basket approach", or you probably have to take a ward save magic item, meaning you're throwing away points by overriding the Warpaint.

I'd run a bigboss or two in my Savage Orc unit so they can benefit from the Shrunken Head that my greatshaman carries. :) Mostly naked, maybe some nifty magic item.

Sounds like an expensive unit Theorox!

I was thinking something simple like: Big Boss, GW, Talisman of Endurance, Potion of Toughness
Put him in a unit without the Shrunken Head and make sure there is a unit Champion. Just try to avoid super-killy characters of your opponents. If you meet one, hopefully the Champion + Ward Save + Potion will make sure your Big Boss is pretty resilient, at least for a couple of rounds.
Same concept for a Warboss, but upgrade to the Tal. of Preservation.

That Talisman is wasted points on a Savage Orc Big Boss - I'd rather spend those points on something like the Glittering Scales.
I think theo may be onto something with his idea of sticking a Big Boss or two in the Lucky Shrunken Head unit for a little extra beef, though (as Squigkikka noted) it ups the cost of what was already an expensive unit even more.

Yeah, is a point sink. I would put them on weaker units, so they have a bit of punch.

I can't say I can really think of a unit where I'd want him in over the SOBU unit, though. The Lucky Shrunken Head's 5+ Ward is really important for these guys.

Exactly. In my opinion all support Big Bosses (except maybe Night Goblin Big Bosses with big axes) are too expensive to strengthen up the fighting power of units - for instance, I could get two Trolls (or one and a half Wolf Chariots) for a price of one naked Savage Orc Big Boss! Buying all those ward saves in addition to their already kinda high price doesn't sound too good, so it's better to run the Savage Big Bosses in the unit with the Shrunken 'Ead if you really want to take them.
In my current army list I have one Savage Orc Big Boss, he who carries the battle standard. He goes in the SOBU unit with a Great Shaman with the Shrunken 'Ead, so he gets 5+ ward save too. He carries Standard of Discipline and a great weapon, so even though he has a ward save he must be pretty careful and should only fight in corner-to-corner against good enemy fighters.
- Cheers, Skarsnik.

Getting the common version without frenzy, being cheaper ;).

Yeah, normal Orc Big Bosses I can get behind. But the topic was for the Savages. ;)

Give him a choppy axe and a nice ward safe.
Magic armor would not be unfluffy, because it can be a bone armour filled with green energy or whatnot. Magic armour doesn´t need to be made off steal/gromril or whatnot. :D
The SO WB is well, a bit too naked to wear an armour but someone could add some bones and stuff to equip him with "magic armour".

i ran a savage orc warboss with the battleaxe of the last waaagh in a brick of 29 normal savages with 2hw and full command 6x5 at just under 550 points its really good
i played 5 games with him at a tournament and the list of stuff he killed is to long to type belive me the battle axe is awesome best weapon in the game imo

Sounds like a good idea. Where is WBK when you need him?

Nice way to run him is with the lvl shrunken head guy in the savage orcs to take advantage of the "free" 5+ WS. Equip him with a GW for some choppy goodness, armour of silvered steel (chuck in luckstone for good measure) for some protecty goodness and lasty the good old party stubborn hat to make sure your savage orcs are an immovable object.

I run a warboss naked with a Shrunken Head LvL1 in 23 None Biguns SOs. Cheaper and less of all eges in one basket build.

But can be sniped/slaughtered pretty easy.
With great shaman you have access to fencers blades and a potion to make really tough and somewhat killy. Try to get gorks fists or morks fist off and your shamane will stomp stuff left and right.
