Title: Other Forums
Description: Warseer & Dakka Ect
Malleus - May 30, 2012 11:57 AM (GMT)
Now Then, rant incoming. Just need to vent.
I use Dakka and Warseer occasionally as I do like to gain some insight into what other players and communities think of lists.
I am becoming slightly aggreived at the 'advice' that is being given, especially to new players who want advice on their lists and all they get is
This sucks, that sucks, why are you not running a horde of savage orcs (10x4 with all these characters as a deathstar unit) etc, etc, blah, blah, yadda yadda.
Sometimes, my advise goes through on tactical advice for example how can Night Goblins defeat a unit of 8 Chaos Knights? well simple really don't go head to head, tie uip the unit and hit it in the flanks with something. Trolls, Chariot, Pump wagons, hell even 20 NG archers. But most often the ONLY way to deal with anything in WHFB is to get a f'off big unit that costs more then the issue unit and throw that down the targets throat.
Another pet peeve for me, 5 Wolf Riders, they're useless, why do you not have a musician how do you fast reform? - again just bleh, I can't veen be bothered to reply to that one
Ok mini rant over, feel a little better.

Yeh I know that from the listed forums as well.
You ask for some advices on your list and what you get is a new list plus rants about your old list. There´s a difference between asking for a optimized ´ard boyz list and some improvements on your posted list. But that´s something most ppl over there dont get.
I like dakkadakka for the rule discussions and warseer for the rumours but besides that I avoid them.

Warseer I do kind of like purely for the comical advice that you sometimes,
see below
Madival: I have an opponent fielding teclis, 40 sword masters in horde with bsb , 20 seaguard and 25 seaguard with noble that makes all the 25 guys attacks magical. I am only worried about teclis as vampire counts. I am fielding a 30 man GG unit banner of barrows , 2x30 zombies, 30 skeletons, 2x5 dire wolves, hemmler, o2 necro with rod of flaming death, 2x5 hex wraiths and a black coach. What should I do ?
Icedcrow: I'm also a fan of dropping every cannonball and mortar shot and sniper shot at him. He's bound to fail a look out sir roll when you use weight of numbers. I'm not sure of your army but if you have access to any of the above, let er rip.
Frankly: Set up a some magic defence, look at all the anti magic items and get a few that either hurt him or shut down a spell or two.
BigbyWolf: One of my clubs has come up with a novel way of dealing with Teclis.
If anyone ends up playing against someone using Teclis, they themselves get a free Teclis to use for the game. We even have a club Teclis model for people to use should the situation arise.
Most people tend to stop bringing him unless they have specifically agreed to use him with their prospective opponents the previous week.
Warplock: I wouldnt play against him at 2000 points. Ask the opponent to desist.
Graxy: In reply to BigbyWolf thats possibly the greatest thing I ever heard
Morkash: I fully approve of this
Calnen: Unless it's an agreed competitive game (conga lines etc included), then a gent just wouldn't take him. The rules for him are clearly not as intended.
wbarobinson: High elves suck, Teclis is the only thing that makes them playable. Just fly a kitted ghoul king over and kill him. Or vargheists and kill him. Or a vargulf and kill him. Or a terrogheist and kill him.
8 posts before something useful. I might even turn this into a monthly competition, find the most stupid post on Warseer

Also I find Dakka great for Necromunda PLogs, which I really need to start

Not to be critical of other forums, since that's bad form for me as an Admin, but I can understand the grief that some of the other forums have been causing. Especially in regards to how unrepresentative internet forums are of the player base as a whole, and how certain groups can push their message as being "right".
For example, a good friend of mine, and LONG time gaming buddy (life long Empire player since 4th edition) is now decrying that the Empire list is near useless (despite there being very little in the way of changes from last edition to this one. If anything, they've had a few things added that make me even more worried about playing against his usual list) based largely on reading complaint after complaint online.
Anyway, something to bear in mind is that a lot of people who make 'powergamer' remarks, or over the top complaints online are not representative of the community as a whole. Sure, there might be a greater concentration of them in one place or another, but that's the joy of the internet - you're not forced to frequent only one forum that's closest to you (like real life gaming clubs / stores etc), and there are places that are more laid back and focused on the gaming side of things rather than the winning at all costs / everything GW does is evil sides of things :)

I've found a few forums in the past that I frequent for a small amount of time, then never go back to because of experiences like that. I did go to one forum a few years ago for an army I didn't know much about. My brother had got into the army (I'm not mentioning it because the forum will be figured out quickly), and had bought some models. I used the models he had to write up a 500pt list, then asked for advice on what to add next to. I had pointed out that this was for my brother, not me.
I deleted the post a few days later because the comments I got included that he should sell what he had and start from scratch again, because that combination of units was not going to win many games (Strangely, my brother wanted an army to play with, not to win at all costs). There were a few constructive bits and pieces here and there, but most of it was trash talking, including about people not even in the thread.
The greatest one was where someone recognised my name from here, and was really confused that I was looking at this army and not O&G, and suggested that I had bought models that weren't compatible with my army, and was trying to use them as allies...

online forums can be hard at times. Its often difficult to convey ones self purely by use of the written word alone and so I find it best not to take comments too literaly and forget about them quickly. That being said I have at times been upset by people who seem hell bent on embarressing you publicly but then they may or may not realise what they are doing. Some people do know and thats their hobby but its better to ignor ethose people. My further advice would be to speak in private to a mod or admin if you feel it has happened here. A polite diplomatic word could always be passed over if its agreed that this has happened.
As for selling your models, I whole heartedly agree that you should sell anything that isnt Orc and Goblin related! ;) :)

I dont really visit the big ones.
apart from da path i occasionally visit lustria online and to ulthuan. The lizzies are quite relaxed and advice seems reasonable, but activity on that forum is really low. The elves on the other hand have quite some activity going on, but they suffer from the 'everything is useless' syndrom. According to high elves te following units are useless: spearmen, seaguard, archers, dragons, silver helms, reavers, repeaters bolt throwers, and i am probably forgetting a few. Funnily a few of the most interesting blogs by from the looks of it the better players are exactly about using those units to the maximum effect for scoring victories.
And apart from that they take everything serious, and are insulted by remarks that everybody in here would laugh about.

That is a funny side-fact. Often, I feel, many forum users seem to be acting very close to the stereotypes of the race their army has. Maybe we green gits are such a light hearted bunch because of all the fun and comical sides of O&G from 5th edition and older?

With warseer I only really use the warhammer background subforum, because I am quite into that stuff and I find there are quite a few others over there who are as well. But the rest of it I find too big and impersonal.
I think Da Warpath is a nice size, it is much easier for people to get to know each other.
