Description: Just something that came up

Can a dark elf wizard cast "Power of Darkness" no matter which lore she chose? I think the answer from the reading is that she can, but I just want to be sure.

Yes, All DE sorcs know PoD.

Yes, All DE sorcs know PoD.

...aaand almost zero will try to cast it this edition with anything other than a scroll caddy. With a 1/3 chance of autofailing and breaking concentration you have to use two dice pretty much, meaning that there is only 1/3 of the time you will end up 1 power dice worse off, 1/3 you will end up exactly the same and 1/3 you'll end up better. If you break concentration you cant cast again so you have to use two dice, and it 'aint worth it.

Power of Darkness adds D3+1 dice to the pool, so you'll always at least get the 2 back.

Throwing 2 dice at PoD is almost always worth it, because at worst (within likely odds, 1-1 is like what 3%?) you will come out of it with the same amount of dice and at best you'll gain 2 dice.

Its not to the pool though, its to the wizard, and he has to use them or else take wounds. I dunno, most DE players round my way wont bother unless they've had a really poor winds of magic roll.

With my DE, I always use 2 dice on my scroll caddy for PoD. Then i use one with my level 4, if I fail, I use the sacrificial dagger for an extra dice. If I didn't have the stabby dagger, I would throw 2 regular dice. Either way, I always cast as much PoD as I can because even with 2 dice the average power dice return is +1.

If you fail you break concentration and you won't be able to use the sacrificial dagger, it's used before casting a spell

No it's not, the text specifically says

QUOTE
after the casting dice have been rolled, the Sorceress may sacrifice a model ... The sorceress gains a power dice that must be rolled and added to the casting total (before dispel attempts)

The stabby dagger wording is "power" die. So if they roll a 1, they still kill for another power die. Since its a power die, if they roll a 6, sabby someone and roll a 6 on that, its IF.

Unlike our Mushroom where it is not a power die, it just adds +D6 to the cast.
or the TK Hierotitan Spirit Conduit that adds +D3 to the roll.

+1 to always kicking off the magic phase with PoD when using DE.

DE are the one army I love taking the toad scroll against - nothing like seeing your opponent fail to make his wizard level and then have his sorceress auto-die to the wounds from the dice she now can't use.
