Title: 2400 Points - Return To The Greenskins

Jhaantikaal - May 24, 2012 11:10 AM (GMT)
Wow, nearly 3 years since my last log in... I've often browsed as a guest, and lately I've dug out what's left of my ong collection during a house move.

The following army will be heavily themed (which I wont reveal just yet) but as long as I have mostly gobbos, my squig herds, the trolls and the pump wagons I'm flexible.

It's roughly 2400 points at the moment., and looking at it now the core probably falls short... But I don't have the book at the moment as its been loaned out :/

Goblin Warboss
Gw, armour of Silvered steel, 5+ ward.

Great night goblin shaman
Level 4
Dispel scroll

NG BSB
Std of discipline

Goblin big boss
Wolf, la,sh,magic sword, potion of foolhardiness, dragonbane gem

Goblin big boss
Wolf,la,sh,warrior bane, terror mask

40 night goblin archers
Full command
3 fanatics

50 night goblins
Hw and shield
Nets

30 Squigs, 10 herders

So, I haven't used the greenies since 2009.... Is this any good??

Definitely a solid start. Here are a few comments, though.

Wolf Riders > Spider Riders in almost every way - give them Spears and Shields and you get a faster, better armored unit for cheaper. You also might want a couple more Spear Chukkas - 1 won't do much, but 4 will. :)

The Standard of Discipline is a great item for a Gobbo army, but having the BSB run around essentially naked worries me (armies with Lore of Death and/or Sniper will make sure he doesn't make it past T2). I would give some consideration to magic gear over the magic banner.

Ah yes, I had the same dilemma originally regarding the wolves vs spiders. I'd prefer wolf boyz but already have the spider rider models. So on that basis alone I'll stick with them for now.

Spear chukka - youre right.... 1 is almost useless. I just like my old school model... but I've had to drop it to scrounge some more points for core anyway.

As for the BSB, tricky. He'll be bunkered up but I am concerned about his longevity also. But what could 15 points get me that would make him last that much longer? Lets face it, if my opponent wants to snipe or spirit leech him, hes as good as dead whatever he has.

I borrowed a club mates book and have had a play around on army builder this evening. My list looks like this now. (hopefully all points are now correct too)

I like your army list, a lot. (I too have a massive weakness for Night Goblins and Squigs) those two squig herd/hordes will look amazing on the table. You better start up a project log you git.

The BSB I also struggled with, the +leadership is definately needed in an all goblin list but as rothgar and yourself pointed out, this leaves him very naked. I have considered either mounting him and hiding him behind something (like the trolls) or by giving him and the general a small bunker to hide in behind the main line

2 Goblin Doom Diver Catapults, 160 pts

3 Pump Wagons (165 pts)

I'll confess I'm yet to play a proper game with this yet, most stuff is in there either because it firs the theme I'm looking to achieve, seems fun AND competitive, and there's also some theory hammer tactics.

Any advice would be really welcome.
2 main questions...

Common goblins with skulkers or ngs with fanatics for character bunker? I've gone common at the moment as the skulkers are a little bit more character protection, even if only for a turn.
8 trolls.... Too many? Would 6 do, and then I can add a second Mangler?

Thanks guys
