Title: Da Scabby Eye Tribe
Description: River Trolls

Malleus - May 13, 2012 09:47 PM (GMT)
I am setting up this PLog to keep me on track with my purchases and to finally paint all the Orcs and Goblins that I have lying around the place (I really can't remember buying so many.)

So far this weekend, not got a lot done but have managed to get some colours on both of the Squig Herds.

Malleus - May 14, 2012 11:19 AM (GMT)
Thank you, at the moment I am trying to get my grubby little mits on some squig hoppers and I picked up the Mangler a few days ago so will be building two mini diarama's to use in my games (along with a cowering empire soldier painted up in my mates colours) plus the Night Goblins hanging on will go nicely on my Wolf Chariot conversions (I have too many TK Chariots around the place) as extra crew :D

Thitanium Prince - May 14, 2012 03:13 PM (GMT)
absolutely nice squigs ^^

Malleus - May 16, 2012 09:56 AM (GMT)
So I had a couple of 1k games over the weekend using this list.

Was a good laugh, I played a couple of interesting match ups against DoC, Gnoblar Army (using O&G Book), Empire, Da Stunties and my Tk's (used by a new player to 'feel' out the army)

Here's the -vs- TK

Level 2 LP, Dragonbane Gem, Earthing Rod in 19 Archers, mus, std (#Desert Wind["march" spell], Protection[5+ ward]#)
19 Archers, Mus, Std
5 horsemen
Fire Kitty
2 x Scorpion
Casket of "it can do what now"

Warboss Gobbo , GW, Armour of Fortune, Crown of Command
BNG BB BSB, GW, Armour of Silvered Steel
NG Lvl 1, Ironcurse Icon (#Sneaky Stabbing#)
37 Night Goblins, Spears, Mus, Std, Nets
2 x 20 Night Goblins, Mus
2 x 10 Squigs, 10 Night Goblins
2 Goblin Spear Chukka's
2 Snotling Pump Wagons

Since the guy is a newish player (to WHFB) we had a line up and fight battle on a fixed terrain table (building in the centre, hill in opposite deployment corners, small woods in each table half, roads, fences and stream scattered lazily around)

Deployment (my L to R)

TK

on my far left I had the horsemen, with the rest deployed as a refused flank on the right side of the table in front of the hill. Sphinx - Archers - Bunker with the Casket on top of the hill (suprise suprise)

Scabby Eye (again my L to R)

I deployed fairly central but more to the right to counter his deployment.

Pump Wagon____Spear Horde with All Characters_____Pump Wagon
Sbows____Squigs_____________________Squigs____Sbows
___________Spear Chukka_________Spear Chukka

TK 1:

The horsemen vanguard then move forwards, they're closing in on the spear chukka early, the sphinx lumbers towards my spear horde, magic phase rather dull 6 PD vs 2 DD. 6 dice go into the casket (Yahtzee) and is dispelled with IF :D.

O&G 1:

Everything passes animosity, and marches forwards. The PW's roll forwards 7&9" to stay fairly coherant. Sneaky stabbing cast on spear chukka facing horsemen. AP Chukka fires at horsemen hits and pulverises two (hooray). Other chukka misses sphinx ('e needs targit practice!)

TK 2:

Horsemen charge chukka, completed, sphinx positions itself to take/make charge on/from spear horde. Magic phase again fairly dull. 4PD vs 3DD. Desert wind cast and dispelled. Both units if archers fire on approaching horde and deal 10 hits, 5 wounds, 2 dead. In the combat the goblins kill 2 horsemen and take no return wounds so the remaining horsemen pops. (dey were betta hittin' stuff wiv dem bolts!)

O&G 2:

Pump wagons move forward 5&4", the spear horde charges sphinx in the flank passing terror test and just making combat (15" charge) sbows march to maximum range (away from units - I need pics for next battle) left hand squigs follow, right hand squigs line up against archer bunker) Sneaky Stabbing goes off on Spear Horde (hehehe). I seem to have blocked off all view of the enemy from my chukka's so resorted to taking long range pop shots with my chukka's needing 6 to hit I rolled 2 of them and put 2 wounds on the casket. In the combat the gobbos threw nets at the sphinx and hit (good shot ladz after a bucket of dice wear thrown from each side we discovered I had forgotten to test for fear so we re rolled them. 4 Wounds were put on the sphinx for the loss of 9 goblins, who hold and reform into bus

TK 3:

Casket goes off and takes out both chukka's (I really thought I had put them outside of bounce range) and everything remaining gets a 5+ ward. Each unit of archers targets the sbow goblins lining up their charges and takes 3 off of each. the Gobbo's do another wound to the sphinx, who misses the thundercrush attack and remains on 1 wound effectively holding up my tarpit perfectly - honestly this match up was entertaining to watch anvil vs tarpit.

O&G 3:

The snotlings must be tired as the pump wagons judder fowards 3", both sbow mobs declare charges against the archers and the squigs march into flank charges. Sneaky stabbing on SBows (lining up with mage bunker) is dispelled.
All units make the charges and after the fallen NG's pick themselves back up (I remembered as I was taking the last NG off the unit that TK cannot stand and shoot, only hold) The combats were entirely dull, the LP took a wound and the bunker unit took a wound after making 4 successful regen saves the NG's took one back in return. One the other flank things were going badly, the NG's fluffed their to hit rolls and 5 died in return, failing the check twice (11, 12) they fled and were allowed to leave.

TK:4

The now free archers pivoted to face the squigs and backed up 2" towards the casket which zapped 5 squigs and 7 handlers (f@ck no wonder my enemies hate this thing) The sphinx killed 3 goblins and took no wounds back. The mage bunker lost another 2 wounds and the LP snuffed it (although nothing immediately crumbled)(well done ladz yous killed da dead fing! )

O&G 4:

The short bow mob carries on running away (we's seein' who iz da fastest boss!)

After their little kip the snotlings in the right hand wagon roll an impressive 12" and smash into the casket (it was a really tight squeeze), the right hand squigs charge the casket, the left hand squigs charge the other archers. We forgot about the magic phase.

In the 5 Squigs/3 Handler unit they do an impressive 7 wounds after the dust has settled one of the squigs has died, the archers lose another 4, leaving 8 remaining.

The sphinx pulpes an impressive 10 goblins this turn, still teetering on 1 wound (these are dicks in 1k games) stubborn gobbos hold.

Casket is destoryed mainly due to impact hits of the pump wagon, also losing 2 squigs and the game is called since there's not a lot left to do apart from mop up

So not really done a lot with my Orcs and Goblins lately and I am getting a bit bored of losing with them so have decided that I wont purchase another set of lucky blue dice but instead slap some paint on the troops.

Also given up on the idea of an all Night Goblin army, enter the Gouged Tusk Orcs

I have left the space for my BSB (still to be built) and my Shaman (who is currently treading the badlands- On order)

Also have come a little more updated with the Scabby Eye Goblin's themselves, so have painted a mob of 40 with Shaman

Now I had planned to leave this unit until I had completed or at least fully assembled my Flames of War Late Germans, but I just couldn't resist and found myself painting them up yesterday.

Nice army so far, Cant wait to see more.

Malleus - June 13, 2012 08:15 AM (GMT)
Thanks the Trolls don't look too bad in person as the flesh area's look brighter with the yellow highlight under the Green Wash, I was thinking about doing the scales in a bone colour similar to that on the Bones on the BSB. I do plan on going back over everything, unit by unit once everything has been painted to the same standard as the Trolls (which is my bare bones table standard) and adding more details and of course basing as everything (with the exception) of the Trolls has been PVA's to the base or simply slotted in, so I can remove them easily

Anyways I have been working on my Wolf Riders and Wolves for my Chariots lately, apart from a terrible paintjob (ebay) which I think I can salvage without stripping everything down and starting afresh I am having my first experience with Greenstuff tonight - sculpting a grand total of 9 tails (I hate Cavalry with missing tails) I did consider calling them "Da Tail Docka's" but decided against it. Anyhow photos of my first attempt with greenstuff will follow this later tonight.

Mangler

Can't remember what equipment I gave my guys, I'll look when I get home

Just decided on a line up and fight battle (no messing) and set up our usual abundance of terrain with me blocking any clear routes to my forces and him attempting to leave some open

Deployment Left to Right

Chariot, Chariot, Gors (BSB), Bestigors(Lvl4), Hapies

Wolves, Mangler, Squigs, 40 NG, Trolls, Manlger, Wolves
---------------Diver, 20 Night Goblin bunker, Rock Lobba

Spells

GBS - Wildform, Curse, Savage Beast, Panns
Level4 - Night Shroud, Gork'll Fix It, Itchy Nuisance, Gift of the Spidergod
Level1 - Sneaky Stabbing

Turn 1.
I won first turn so moved everything forwards as nothing failed stupidity or animosity, not really much to do in magic phase as eveything is out of range. The Rock Lobba clips the Gor and the unit takes 6 casulties, the Diver scatters perfectly onto the hapies and takes out 2, they fail leadership and flee off the table. :yarr!:

Everything moves forwards at full speed, magic phase is uneventful as everything is still a way from combat

Turn 2
Again everyone behaves themselves and moves forward full tilt :ph43r: , skirting terrain and the like, having completely forgotten to previously mention vanguard moves (bugger) both wolf riders angle themselves for a possible flank charge next turn while protecting themselves from retaliation which a nice farmhouse they spent a few minutes chasing the chickens and (potentially) dangerous woodland. Magic Phase again not a great deal happens, only one unit in range of a hex Itchy Nuisance and this brings out the Scroll (I tried in vain to make him take it back and save it for a better time but he didn't listen) The Lobba directly hits the Gors and removes an impressive 13 models from the unit, the Doom Diver fails to wound the chariot it hits.

Everything again moves forward, Chariots trundling past the wolf riders to try and sweep round to rear charge something, the Bestigors line up against the Trolls and after a bit of undecidedness the Gors line up against the Goblins. Magic phase, anticipating charges, Boosted Panns Pelt goes through and Wildform on the Gors is dispelled (S5 T5 Gors? Oh hell no)

Turn 3.
40 Goblins declare the charge(Gors), Trolls Declare Charge(Bestis) Right Hand Wolf Riders declare charge (Bestis) . The left flank Wolf Riders do a mighty wheel and end up facing the rear of the Chariots, the left Mangler lands on a chariot and decimates it the Right Hand Mangler blocks the charge route of the Wolf Riders (bugger). Squigs move into flnaking range of Gors and start to dribble, Bunker shuffles up (just out of 10" range incase of overrun). Magic phase becomes more interesting, Gork'll Fix It goes off on the Gors followed by Itchy Nuisance (with -5 to M/I), Gift of Spider God is dispelled so they get a Sneaky Stabbin instead(I messed up my magic phase should have gone stabbin 1st spell). Hit nothing in shooting phase and the Rock Lobba can't shoot next turn. The charges complete combat begins. The Night Goblins throw their nets and entrap a large section of Gors (good) from the mighty amount of 10 attacks they do a massive 2 wounds to the Gors as Panns was in effect I ignored the Characters this round, in return the Gors cleave 3 Night Goblins into paste and stay locked in combat, I decide that I'd combat reform into horde as well to see what happens. On the other hand the Trolls get busy and Smash a mighty 8 Bestigors to paste who in return and after regen lose 2 wounds.

His Chariot makes a direct line for my warmachines, magic phase is imacculate and comes up snake eyes, Wildform on Gors fails (snake eyes again) So on to combat, Goblins do a massive amount of damage by stabbing 3 Gors to death and in return lose 1 thanks to Itchy, again they stay locked in combat. The Trolls I decided to direct 6 attacks against the GBS who amazingly failed 3 Ward saves and snuffed it, the remaining Trolls smash another 7 Bestigors to paste and after regen the last wound is removed from the troll and I finally remove one (this is strange for me I usually start removing them turn 1 - fcuking flaming attacks) this proves too much for the Bestigor who flee 7", looking bemused the Trolls stumble forwards 2"

Turn 4:
Wolf Riders declare charge against the fleeing Bestigors, and a long range charge is declared against the Chariot, the Squigs charge the flnak of the Gor unit and the Trolls fail stupidity (and since I forgot about reform) smash forwards into the fleeing Bestigor (not sure what happens here so I stopped the Trolls 1" away since the game is more or less in the bag unless things start going horrifically wrong). The Wolf Riders complete a 23" charge into the rear of the Chariot and the other Wolf Riders catch the fleeing Bestigors (who I think were already destroyed) Realising I'm missing something I notice my Manglers and Fanatics are now being used as Objective markers in a nearby game of 40K being fought over by Traitor Guard and Black Templars. Magic phase blows strange and Sneaky Stabbing is cast on the Wolf Riders, Posion Attacks on the Goblin Horde, Itchy Nuisance on the Gor and I roll a double 2 for Gork'll Fix It. The Squigs chomp through 7 Gor, the Goblins fell another 13 leaving a very worried looking 206. The Wolf Riders fail to wound the chariot and the chariot fails to wound the wolf riders, testing for his BSB he rolls insanely well and stays in combat but decides to call the game.

All in all, it went very well for me and terribly wrong for him. He is infact purchasing new dice this week (purple ones this time to try and curry some favour from Slannesh following the disappointment of Grandfather Nurgle who is probably busy with teh release of the new plastics) and I think that I need to paint my Wolf Riders and actually build the Rock Lobba and Doom Diver and give Da Boss, and Da Flag a lick of paint.

DaWild'Un - August 15, 2012 12:26 AM (GMT)
Wonderful work so far. I think your best painted models are the river trolls. the very light-green scales with some blue spots sort of remind me of the creature from the black lagoon. the mustard-yellow vomit from your one troll also stands out.

Just out of curiosity, did you name your tribe after the Scabby Eye Tribe found in the orcs and goblins collectors guide? they have a unique clothing style of black and white stripes, almost like a soccer referee. a picture of one of their wolf riders can be found on page 5. here's a quote from the collectors guide about them:

"This tribe of goblins make full use of the badlands flatness by using a mass of wolf riders and chariots. they are an aggressive tribe that dislike all orcs due to an incident with the blue-face orcs years ago. they constantly raid against the orcs of this tribe in a bitter bid for revenge."

Also, I like how you made your squig's multi-colored and distinctive. it adds variety and contributes to the feel of a ragtag, slap-happy rabble the green skins are known for.

Can't wait to see more!

Vermillion - August 15, 2012 11:32 AM (GMT)
Coming along nicely. Seeing the squigs makes me think of skittles though ;). Very nice work on the trolls, have you done any more work on the chariots?

Malleus - August 15, 2012 12:00 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the comments on the Trolls, ironically the work people like the most is the models that I painted the quickest (literally Undercoat black, basecoat Gretchin Green, drybrush Ivasan Darksun, Thraka Green Wash, pick out detail all 6 done in 1hr)

I picked out the name from somewhere, i read lots of Orc and Goblin based literature but never seen the Collectors guide, might have to change the Tribe's name to Scabby Nose instead.

The Squigs when all together do look like a riot of colour and since I'm not the best painter in the world by any stretch of the imagination I figured the more garish the unit the better, plus looks a lot more intimidating when arranged as a horde.

At the moment am also re starting a Wood Elf and Ogre army so little is getting done on my Orcs and Goblins, although I do have a large amount of snotlings to paint (16 Bases Worth) as well as some conversions, the chariots, some pump wagons, some warmachines ect. Will have to get my arse into gear at some point and break out the green again
