Title: Best And Worst Wfb Miniature...
Description: what's yours??????
Gruntfuttock - February 12, 2012 09:42 AM (GMT)
I was thinking back the other day through the mists of time to models I had owned / painted as a staff member or simply wanted to avoid like the plague....
This had me wondeering what other people's ideas for best and worst WFB miniautre is??
NOTE: Please keep it to Citadel/ Marauder (remember those!!) WFB.
Nagash for worst, or indeed anything sculpted by Gary (I sculpt with my nose) Morley. Ever noticed everything he sculpts looks like him????
NagashAnd best has to be Brian Nelson's Orc Shaman, I loved this when it came out and it has aged brilliantly ( although for some unexplained reason it reminds me of Clint Eastwood.....)
Orc ShamanThere's more I could mention that I love (like the Old Kev Adams Night Goblins, Dwarf Daemon slayer with eye patch, the old Manfred Von Carstien etc.....) but I thought I'd stick to just two.

Naming a single model for either category is going to be tricky.
For me the worst models, by a long way, are the current plastic High Elf Archers. They've got stupid fat heads with pointless helmets and identical goofy haircuts. They've also got large ham fists and are the main reason I never play with my High Elves. The Beastmen Razorgor comes a pretty close second.
As for best model, I change my mind from time to time but in general I think Orc and Goblin players are totally spoilt for choice. I love nearly all of the Lord and Hero models, in fact the model range is the reason I collect O+G. There are some great models from other races and Forgeworld have some simply stunning models too, but at the moment Gorbad is my overall favourite, with Azhag a very close second, basically there's too many great models to choose from.
Craze_b0i - February 12, 2012 04:37 PM (GMT)
Damn this is tough. But for 'worst model' my gut reaction was same as yours: Nagash.
Best model... I'd go with the Araknarok.
GazakahStoneWallop - February 13, 2012 08:51 PM (GMT)
My vote for best is Gorbad.
As for worst... maybe Dechala.
Now that I think of it, another of my favorites is this Chaos Sorceror:

Warboss Gorbolg - February 13, 2012 09:13 PM (GMT)
I really like the Giant. It oozes character and personality, but also comes off as "realistic", if giants were to exist, that is. Yes, I know this sounds like crazy talk. :yarr!: My second place would go the empire wizard kit. Kind of cheating picking that one but I think it's an awesome kit. Third place would be Azhag. The wyvern is brilliant, although I'd swap Azhag's head for one without the stupid grin. Easy enough.
Least favorite would be all the dark elf models with jagged blades. It's probably the one range where I like very few of the models. Dwarf warriors will get my second place vote for least favorite. GW took one the the easiest races to produce characterful models for and somehow made them totally bland and boring.
EntertainMe - February 14, 2012 10:15 AM (GMT)
Best model: Azhagh. But I also like the plastic hero kits there are.
Pretty neat for making your won character.
Worst model is also a DE one:
HarpiesUgly and no real inspiring pose. Also the claws are way out of proportion.
Groznit Goregut - February 14, 2012 01:42 PM (GMT)
Best Model: Arachnarok
Worst Model: Giant Cave Squig - I really want to use one of these, but I just can't buy that model...
Klavier - February 14, 2012 02:03 PM (GMT)
best:grimgor overall his facial expression
worst: the current plastic dwarfs, they look as children with beards and metal pjs
EDIT: i hate also the plastic warboss kits, some nice bitz as shield and choppas, but the mode is so tiny while warbosses should(must) be hulking brutes and pretty anonymous heads variants( i like only the one without helmet) and bodies
scuttla - February 14, 2012 02:08 PM (GMT)
Best model: Ogre kingdoms stonehorn or the OnG arachnarok
Worst model: Grom the paunch, can't stand that bloke
~ scuttla B)
Snikpik - February 14, 2012 04:31 PM (GMT)
Okay Groms chariot needs up dating but Grom himself isnt so bad. At least I dont think so. My favourite and I will stick with OnG ones is the really miffed looking Night Goblin ith the hook hand, I think I'm using a picture of him as my avatar? I dont remember. Edit: yep thats the one.
The worst model, there have been many I suppose but yeah Nagash was terrible. I read a rumour on warseer that forgeworld may redo him, how true that is I wouldnt like to guess. However if they make him and he looks like the picture on the Nagash Immortal book I might get one.

yups, choice is endless. basically each and every model waving his weapon overhead is horrible.
Best models should be the......(afraid to say it out loud) iob reavers.....they single handedly forced me to buy more high elfs. (plz....dont kill me now) ;)
Cannibalbob - February 14, 2012 05:22 PM (GMT)
This is really hard to be honest. There are too many models in both categories.
But for favorite model I will probably pick the old-school night gobbo who is giving the middle finger to the enemy. Such a simple model and so much character, both in the face and the pose. Love the old Kev Adams gobbos. Runners up are: current Skarsnik & gobbla, current Azhag (Gary Morley version goes in the fugly category), the old grumpy looking orc shaman from Brian Nelson, Brian Nelson night gobbo shaman, and the current Gorbad.
In regards to least favorite, I agree that anything by Gary Morley was just absolute trash. Sadly he sculpted a large chunk of old-school orcs/orks. His models were truly awful.
Edit: I also love the squig herder with the cymbals and the bandaged nose. I love how much character some of our simpler models have.
Izhig the Red - February 21, 2012 06:42 PM (GMT)
Favorite model Snotling Pump Wagon:

I like the "New" one as well though.
I don't really have a least favourite model certainly not in the armies I collect (Orcs and Empire).
I do like these though:
GitillaDaHunter - February 22, 2012 11:04 PM (GMT)
Oooh for first, it'd probably be Grom! I love the model and the idea of a massive fat regenerating goblin racing around the table!!
I hate the wolves on the wolf rider models :( they are so un-dynamic and still looking.
Craze_b0i - February 23, 2012 12:34 AM (GMT)
@Izhig: the snottie lying on the roof of the pimp wagon looks like he's taken too much mushroom, looks like he's really tripping out. :P
grok - February 29, 2012 05:51 AM (GMT)
Best model, hard choice, I think either Azhag the slaughter, any squig model, or the brettonian Grail Reliquea (i don't know how to spell that lol)
Least favorite most of the ogre range, the core build of most ogre models is the bull. Not a fan older ogres were not just big fat guys lol. Also really dislike new dwarf warriors, and plastic dwarf kits in general. The old ones had great character and their beards looked great new ones beards are flowing back very oddly and are super thin :vomit:
Craze_b0i - February 29, 2012 02:37 PM (GMT)
I am not keen on the new dwarf warriors either. They look very shoddy, in fact you might even say they look man-made. :P
Pacific - March 2, 2012 12:25 PM (GMT)
Hmm, I really like this chaos model

Also, the Gamezone mournful knight is just beautiful (if one can use such a word for a vampire riding an undead horse!)

Otherwise, almost certainly this guy, sorry girl :)

As for worst? Maybe the new Beastmen minotaurs.
I know Nagash is a popular choice. I heard years ago that the sculptor originally made a hooded cowl, with no face visible, but he was asked to include a face on the model. And so Nagash comedy lord of the Undead was born.
Craze_b0i - March 2, 2012 09:04 PM (GMT)
For me the most galling thing about Nagash is that the army book contained a really great illustration of him. So in theory he could have been done really well.
Kera Foehunter - March 4, 2012 03:25 PM (GMT)

Groznit Goregut - March 5, 2012 06:34 PM (GMT)
That's hysterical! I love the green arm, too.
Gruntfuttock - March 12, 2012 05:51 PM (GMT)
That is..... Quite disturbing actually!!!!!
got another one: Sabertusks!!!! dear Gods, I wonder if they were sculpted in the dark!!!!
and for best: Orion. Gorgeous model.
I do like the whacked out Snotling!!
Jafu - March 15, 2012 10:02 PM (GMT)
Given that I have been playing and collecting since 2nd Ed, my vote for best are the Kev Adams night goblins. They have so much characature.
Where as the old plastic boars would have to be the worst, along with the current plastic dwarfs.

Bahaha, unlucky WGG :P
Best model for me is this lil' guy:

Worst is probably the Ogre butcher, such a horrid model, it doesnt even fit with the rest of the range!

Arfa da Grate
The Charioteer - March 16, 2012 10:23 AM (GMT)
beastman character with the extra hand weapon is a personal fav, also borgut facebeater is awesome as is the common goblin, ironguts and empire greatswordsmen.
I hate skeletal steeds. harpies. and the new stupidly big creature range.
Gruntfuttock - March 17, 2012 12:06 PM (GMT)
Yup Arfa, the Ogre Burcher is truly awful!!!! I think it's matched by the fearsome sabertusks...... or as I call them Diego's.....
Sokk_Likk - May 28, 2012 02:38 PM (GMT)
It's a tough call because there's so many great models, and so many awful ones.
I can narrow it down to a few though..
Best - Kev Adams Goblins, Chaos Familiar walking book, the beer crate Snotling Pumpwagon
Worst - plastic Bretonian archers from the starter set (5th edition?), Lizard Swarms, the new plastic Saurus warriors
Da Spawn Man - May 28, 2012 11:19 PM (GMT)
This is probably impossible to answer off the top of my head, but I'll give it a try...
Best? I like lots of the old Marauder range (simply, characterful, beautiful). The old 6th edition plastic night goblins. Most of the Mordheim range. Bah, too much to remember! Most metal models anyways...
Worst? The new plastic night goblins. In fact, ANYTHING from BFSP. They're all terrible. Most new plastics (New minotaurs, new finicky Empire and High Elves...). The new plastic giant (The 6th edition metal one was far superior). The old edition common goblins. Well basically anything that is plastic and isn't cool. So ALL plastics really. ;)
EDIT: Forgot to add - I HATE the new plastic Chimera model! Worst model. EVER.
amplebob - May 29, 2012 09:50 AM (GMT)
Best - oddly, I really like the lizardmen stegadon. Such a great kit to work with, and it works splendidly with the rest of the lizardmen range. (just a shame about the dreaded pinball howdah of doom in 8th edition)
Worst - I cant stand the old vc skeletal horsemen. I also thought garagrim ironfist was total junk.
