Title: Dreamspirit's Terrain Log

dreamspirit - January 14, 2012 11:53 PM (GMT)
Okay so I decided to open a terrain log where I will post all of our future work in 2012 (and hopefully after). Up until now I've posted threads for each work and that just isn't practical. so here goes, first of all couple of stuff inspired by Skyrim, hope you like them ;)

Have a great day,

Milos

Here is a little waterfall, again, inspired by Skyrim. I am still experimenting with water effects here, once I master it (or at least get a good grasp) I'll post a tutorial. For now you;ll have to settle for this ;)

Couple of Arcane Ruins shots: the standing stones can be removed for easier miniature placement.

Man, this stuff is really great! I can tell you've channeled Skyrim quite well into these pieces.. will look forward to a tutorial; I've just begun working on some terrain pieces, and could use any tips/suggestions.

Cheers,

Gazakah

Very nice, as usual :)

The patterns on the stone is that freehand or have u used transfers or some cut out mold?

Snikpik - January 15, 2012 09:21 AM (GMT)
YOu say you havent mastered the water effects but I really like that waterfall as it is. Look forward to more in this blog...

dreamspirit - January 15, 2012 10:24 AM (GMT)
thanks guys I appreciate all the comments, I will post some more soon!

@BorkBork: one of my artists is making that pattern with some kind of stamping tool ;)

Very nice! I really like them. You have a cool style that you don't normally see in warhammer, bright and fantasy like, it makes a good contrast to all the dark terrain....

I really like the waterfall, the water looks great! My only comment would be the fallen standing stone (fourth picture from the top) looks a little unnatural. Mainly because the top stone is still attached. I would assume that the stones were not mortared (in real life) instead just held in place by their weight. If so then the top stone would have fallen off. Even if they were fastened by some kind of mortar the stone looks so heavy it would have broken more...

At least that's my feeling when looking at it...

Wow... This terrain is fantastic! I'm really impressed. The waterfall is beautiful. Ill have to steal that idea at some point.

Oh, and thanks for your tutorial on instant mould. It's part of my next big greenskin project, and probably all other projects from here on. That stuff is amazing!!! :o

Kera Foehunter - January 15, 2012 03:44 PM (GMT)
Great to see ya still working on terrain
they just keep getting better

Noisy Assassin - January 15, 2012 04:40 PM (GMT)
This stuff is very pretty. Would be great to see two fully painted armies fighting over a board filled with it.

dreamspirit - January 15, 2012 09:48 PM (GMT)
thanks all, here is another marble from our collection (actually now collection of someone else). I really enjoyed building this one, you can find more detailed footage on my youtube channel, and here is something for all of you on the forums:

Great stuff, really like the leaves on the red tree on piece number 1. Also the arcane runis are really nice. But my favourite is the fortified keep.

I do however agree Wazoo's comment on the fallen stone in pic 4.

dreamspirit - January 18, 2012 01:42 PM (GMT)
thanks mate, I'm glad you like them ;)

Groznit Goregut - January 18, 2012 03:06 PM (GMT)
Great stuff! I especially like the cave with the river. Nicely done. I like the castle, too.

Groznit, thanks, how you've been mate?

Now for some High Elf stuff!

Mountain temple of the Elves, very cool looking on the battlefield, quite big, plenty of space to hide your miniatures, and again plenty of space to fight on the actual terrain. Let me know what you think!

Nice! are the elves there as statues or for scale purposes? I would say that the pattern on the ground could have looked more worn but I have no idea how that could be achieved...

Wazoo

dreamspirit - February 1, 2012 10:42 AM (GMT)
elves are the statues for the terrain piece, Wazoo thanks for the comment!

Milos

Snikpik - February 1, 2012 12:19 PM (GMT)
Yep like it. I'm not 100% sold on the high elf miniatures serving as statues though.

I wanted to comment on using bases for pedestals. But this ays it all really.

Remember, modelling people know what bases look like, so anything you want to look like a statue you should try and get a different base.

If you look around you can find them easily and cheap. Like the cap of a tube of toothbrush for example. Very nice for a pedestal.

But notheless, a very great piece of terrain. Great atmosphere to it. Nice flocking and painting variations on there (which make a great piece IMO).

Snikpik - February 1, 2012 02:53 PM (GMT)
Yeah maybe a pedestal would make them look more statue like, I can envisage that now...

dreamspirit - February 1, 2012 09:04 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the comments guys, I am going to experiment with different pedestals, I appreciate the advice. I got a lot of good comments on flocking, so if anyone;s interested, this flock is home made, and I will make a tutorial for my Youtube channel.

update on the thread coming soon, thanks all!

Another commission, a dwarf army display board, started out as a concept art:

then we started building it, and with few alterations to get more space for the minis we ended up here:

The Dwarf piece is excellent.

Okay guys it's time for an update, I have been very busy and atop of that, some personal issues swamped me down so I really haven't had the time to make proper update.

In the meantime, my studio is making a real progress, lots of commissions are finished and in the next couple of days I'll post what we completed so far.

So let's start with some display boards:

first of all, here is a giant High Elf display board

And here is another waterfall and sacred ground.

As for the Sacred Ground, I want to expand this terrain into full circle for the use in warmachine. The space between the standing stones would be wide enough to allow movement of 50 mm bases, so that you can use it in battles for more than just a nice decor ;)
