Title: Back To The Stomping Ground
Description: [Update] Lord of Change progress update

Wechselbalg - July 26, 2011 09:29 PM (GMT)
Well, finally got my klawz on this board. Nice to see a green board. :)
Instead of making one of these "hello im new" threads Iīll start with my ongoing project. Oh, I dont like Orks with C instead of K so Iīll stick with the Space Ork spelling. Orcs are saved for Lord of the Ring.
I started to load up all my pics over at dakkadakka, but havent started a O&G blog there, because my old one is still in the need for updates
The army includes:

- Gorbad
- Grimgork
- Some customized bosses
- BSB Blackork
- 29Black Orks
- 10 Boarboys
- ~70 Ork Warriors
- 40 Nightgoblins
- 10 Spiderrider

Complete army [WIP]

More pictures about the whole process up to today can be found over at dakka. But I dont want to spam tons of pics here to start with. Iīll update this one with the latest pictures tomorrow. So far the pics aint the best but Iīll try to make better ones for - at least for the models close to be finished. :D

Thitanium Prince - July 26, 2011 09:50 PM (GMT)
It looks like a nice start, welcome on Da Warpath :D

Paiant Slapah - July 26, 2011 10:20 PM (GMT)
Welcome to da warpath. Looks like you've gotten a good start on your army. Looking forward to updates.

Wechselbalg - July 28, 2011 04:30 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the flowers/mushrooms :)

Little update with my boarboyz. Still need to get my hands on the new digicam.
Damn weather was so great the last days I didnt spend much time painting :(
Hmm, the pics could be a little sharper it seems. Will try to get some better shots after dinner.

Wow, the stuff looks good! Welcome to Da Warpath, where the green things go to mob up! :yarr!:

However, with all the stuff jumbled up it's actually hard to see what is finished. Everything is good-looking so far.

Wechselbalg - July 28, 2011 09:30 PM (GMT)
Nothing finished yet :(

This is my 2nd O&G army and my 5th WHF army and it will be finished soon - hopefully.
Once there is finished stuff I will make clearly state it as finished.
Forget to post my "painting station" a little mess from time to time but thatīs a mans doom with that much room.
To the right thereīs another table but hey, I have some Space Orkz and other non green stuff to paint *shudder*
10years of hardcore collecting will mess thing up a bit.

If the weather aint that great tomorrow I will hopefully finish my Blackorkz and may get another grip on the boarboyz as well.

Wechselbalg - July 30, 2011 08:26 PM (GMT)
Another update. My first rank from my "Immortalz".

Still not finished - was planned but meh, too much work and blacklining is a little mess for me it seems. ~10years of "cheating" with a micropen doesnt helps with blacklinig using a brush first time :o
The pics are a bit blurry but I hope itīs ok. :)

I like the hooked hand on the Boar Boss! :yarr!:

And the rest looks equally good ^^

Thanks :)

Summertime aint the best time for me to paint. Too much "outwork" goin on and so my painting sessions are mostly eaten by commission works.
Anyway, some progress on my first Ork Warriors rank were done plus my nightgoblin filler tent got a base color - all credits to one of the Warpath members here with the awesome gobbo blog whoīd driven me into the idea of using that old tent for a filler.

Another update for da warpath.
The lone rider will be my solo W-Boss if I ever run one. I crumbled through my O&G bitzbox and put together what looked like it could fit. Well, hard to tell whatīs what with that black base coat

The boarboyz are in the last phase - finally and my first 2ranks of ork warriors as well.
The pink one is gorbad the old one not the finecasted. Started with a mix of red and grey to get a flat (3thinned layers) base coat of sth reddish on him. From that I can work up my real red for the armor and stuff. White base coat is not mine at least not for orkz so I have to go for some in between steps to get a bright and real red looking colour.

Wow, your army is going to look amazing :D and red is always good ;)

Chilledenuff - November 14, 2011 09:59 PM (GMT)
These are awesome! How do you do your metal? i like the muted look it's got

Wechselbalg - November 15, 2011 08:10 AM (GMT)
Thanks and yes, I hope it will look good enough to distract my opponents :yarr!:
The list isnt competitive at any means but I had some good success until now. Itīs all about stomping everyone or failing at the doing so and coming back another day with more boyz and since my army is a bit themed towards Grimgork I need a lot of Blackorkcs and red throusers of course, cause red is best and my mobz will be "Da red pants" and "Da redder pants" one needs an excuse for the animosity cause one will always mess around with the other pants are redder and the mob will get stinky. Thatīs the plan at least until I finally realise that freehand pants on banners aint my thing. :o

I did metal for the BOīs/Grimgork etc. as following:

1. Black basecoat
2. Tinbitz or sth. similiar for the first layers
3. Drybrushing with boltgun metal
4. A couple of thin layers with a mix of brown, yellow and black ink in a 2:1:1 mix
5. Drybrushing the higher/not shadowed parts again with boltgun metal
6. A couple of thin layers with a mix of brown, yellow and black ink in a 2:1:1 mix
7. Finally some edge highlightning with silver. Itīs more for the effect on the table than beeing real highlights though.

For the default steel/iron metal Iīm using the same steps except the second one.
All colours are watered down 2:1 colour:thinner and applied in several layers.

My unnamed heroes for the orc mobz. Not finished yet but close to.

I like the one with the huge codpiece. Great stuff.

Thitanium Prince - November 16, 2011 10:00 AM (GMT)
Uh, nice bosses ^^ simple and clean :D

Wechselbalg - November 16, 2011 01:55 PM (GMT)
Thanks and the one with the codpiece is my hungry one. Since he first heard about ogres and the great maw heīs trying to show every ogre that Gork and even Mork have even greater maws so he took a plate - safety first - and rushes towards every challenge he can get into with ogres. I just havent had a successful challenge until now so no real name for him
Hopefully I will finish both of them later today and can get my hands on grimgork the BO boss again.

Wechselbalg - November 19, 2011 08:46 PM (GMT)
No real progress on my army - too much commission work to do but I had some spare time for my ng boss and did a little on my orc boss.

Iīm unsure about his trophy rack and that head thingy need to stare at him for some time while painting those chaos lords and the khemri stuff.

Love the bosses, gives me some ideas when i convert mine.

With the gobbo thropy rack, id just suggest you make the skulls brighter. I use a lot of reaper paints and when i paint bone i basecoat it scorched brown, paint everything but the eye sockets/nose aged bone (reaper), wash it with develin mud and then dry brush it with aged bone.

It ends up being pretty bright and adds some nice contrast to my otherwise dark goblins.

Cheers!

Wechselbalg - November 20, 2011 08:50 PM (GMT)
Another little upgrade.

Thanks dobbie but I meant the beard/hair of the skullz more than the skullz itself. Anyway thanks for the advice will give it a shot when painting those Tomb Kings.
Together with my Bosses I have one of those evil stunties aka Juggernaut Lords. Heīs my best friends army general and will - hopefully - not as painful as his stats say. :yarr!:

Looking good! I would say that the yellow hair and teeth on the boss is a little too yellow, it jumps out a bit much. Otherwise a really good model! As to playing against the juggernaut; they tend to get shot to pieces quite easily as they cant hide in other units (I think) so hit him with your doom divers and magic!

Wazoo

Dobbie71064 - November 21, 2011 01:27 AM (GMT)
Ahh sorry Wechselbalg i misread your post. As per the hair im not sure, maybe add a wash to add some depth. I do like the blonde hair though, how did you manage it?

Cheers!

Wechselbalg - November 30, 2011 02:46 PM (GMT)
Sorry, was a bit too busy doing non O&G stuff so no updates for quite some time. :s

@Dobbie

The blonde hair is just grey too yellow, yellow wash and than some brown washes over it. Nothing special here. Itīs a bit bright on the pictures but hey, photobucket dont like my pics it seems. :cheese:

I did a little work on gorbad and worked on my first regiment base for my army. This time a super cheap version of a regiment base. I had to "pay" for the glue, the tools and the basing stuff the rest was free so to say. Some sprues and a wooden backward from a wardrobe. I havent used sth else for regiment bases that those backwards but the sprue thing is new - thanks to the dakkadakka user who enlightened me about using sprues for reg. bases!
The reg. base needs some more gras and fancy stuff but I hope you can see where it goes and that it is not just cheap but easy to do as well.

Nice start on gorbad... Also I like the idea of using sprue parts as edges on your movement trays... Probably better than my idea of using cardboard...

Wechselbalg - December 4, 2011 01:27 PM (GMT)
I finally finished my first regiment bases using the new way.
The BO one was such a mess but well itīs finished now and Iīm happy with it so itīs ok.
One for the NGs I have to flock and another one for my orc warriors and Iīm done with it for now - ignoring the spider riders.

Dobbie71064 - December 4, 2011 04:17 PM (GMT)
Those bases look great, much better then the GW ones.

Good work!

Wechselbalg - December 4, 2011 04:47 PM (GMT)
Thanks and yes, I dont like the GW ones but mostly because you have to put the models in line like the base says and thereīs not much room between the models.
My BOs wouldnīt have fit on GW bases and since "my way" is cheap I rather make my own ones. Back in the days I used use balsa but thatīs not as cheap as my sprues plus the sprues are more handsome than balsa. Some matches between each BO and I had enough space to put them into a rank&file unit without loosing too much space.

Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull - December 4, 2011 05:26 PM (GMT)
Nice models, I like how the metal turned out on the models.

Cheers,
G

Overlord Fuzz - December 4, 2011 05:43 PM (GMT)
Amazingly clean. I love all those orcs! What's your formula for skintone on them?

Wechselbalg - December 4, 2011 06:51 PM (GMT)
Thanks again

The BO skin:

orkhide shade
thraka green - 2 layers
1:1 orkhide shade and knarloc green
1:10 thraka green/water

orc warriors skin:

orchide shade
gretchin green thraka green
gretchin green
1:1 thraka green/water

Iīm using a wet palette for all my painting works so the colours are watered down by the palette but sometimes I really want those extreme watered colours for layering work.

I will post a step by step with for the skintone later on but above are the raw way how I do my orc skin but now itīs fodder grabbing time.
:yarr!:

Wechselbalg - December 5, 2011 08:57 PM (GMT)
Forget my recipe above, I dont know what borked my mind but itīs wrong for sure.
My little book of colouring greenskins does say so and my book is allways right. :D
I will post a little tut in the painting section explaining step by step how I did/do it.

Wechselbalg - December 20, 2011 03:55 PM (GMT)
I need more time for my personal stuff and less for the commissions :D
Anyway, I just finished the basic skin tone on all my ork warriors. And worked a little on my my blackorks. Now I await my next ~30Orks from GW and hopefully will be done at the end of year.
Just need one regiment base for the third block of OWīs to be ready. After that I will start working on my NG army where I need a ton of NGs for so itīs a spring to summer project ok more a plan because I dont have any concrete plans for the NG army scheduled so no real project yet but anyway. Maybe I just start my savage ork army before the NG one though so everything a bit in the air right now.

Here are some pics of my ongoing stuff again. Nothing special but hey, itīs a blog eh? :D

Wechselbalg - December 24, 2011 09:55 AM (GMT)
Thanks Gaz or Ghaz? :)

I will try to finish my BOs in the christmas time - might even succeed.

Todays entry is about .. orcmass!! I got my order just in time. Itīs the 24th December 10:44 and I received my GW order and hour ago. Wonderful, just wonderful luv those GW trolls.
I ordered some brushes, gonna test the new GW brushes, my first GW brushes after 10years, 3boxes of ork boyz and the shammy to complete my themed army list.
Now itīs time to tidy up all rooms and do some orkamass celebrations before I can get back to the painting table.
Happy orkmass everyone once again and have some relaxed days.
user posted image

Wechselbalg - December 26, 2011 05:21 PM (GMT)
Ok, orcmass was kinda filled with Gork&Mork and a lot of bosses and stuff. Today itīs a bit more relaxed so I got my hands on my first BigīUnz. The conversions are simple. Might just use them as regular ork boyz we will see.
Some of them have a Gork or Mork face on their back "to have an eye" on the boyz behind. No oneīs trusting an ork behind you and I truly believe they wont squabble so much with the Gork or Mork faces have an eye on the mob. :yarr!:

Wechselbalg - May 11, 2012 07:44 PM (GMT)
Finally a little update. I never ever had an army being on my painting table for such a long time but commission works completely ate my time. 5 month over my deadline now. Maybe I will finish it this years christmas. That would mean 1year over my deadline but Iīm ok with completely failing my deadline now. In the end I failed because of commissions and thatīs nothing that really angers me. :)

Back on the real topic

My 3k bruteforce is ready to stomp whatever it will face. I had some good experiences and games with it at 2.5k points and maybe the 3k challenge will be good as well. :yarr!:

5 footslogger blocks and 1 boarboy block plus "a couple lords&heroes" should be enough to stomp or at least shout out a real "WAAAGH!!!".
