Title: Da Purple Waaagh! Of Drugzbad
Description: With purple mushrooms inside...

a child of bodom - June 6, 2011 12:58 PM (GMT)
Hallo !

I'm new here :ph43r: I found your great forum via google pics, and I decided to register and share with ya some of my waaaagh!'s friends in this thread. It can help me to get more motivation, and improve my not-so-oftenly-spoken english ! (I'm french, I know, nobody's perfect.)

So, let me introduce to you these purple mushrooms greenskins eaters, with their lovely warboss Drugzbad, not very smart, but quite effective to kick "who wants to lead" ass. (My opponents know my ability to destroy my owm army, and HE is partially guilty of that).

His standard bearer and brother, moreover...

And this is his personnal guard : Da Immortulz (with a special 300 cover).

(Pics of the conversions are available on simple request ^^ )

I started this waaagh 6 years ago so I've got a lot of units already painted, but with different levels of painting and sometimes no bases texture (I recently decided to put snow on it, to add contrast with the dark colors) . This blog will be a way to upgrade my old minis, cause I'm sometimes bored of the amount of job i I still have to do. 10K points are on the path to set the empire on fire !! An arachnarock is going to follow'em soon.

Comments are welcome. :)

I like the Black Orc unit filler! Any chance of another view of him?

From what I can see he looks like he's based on an Ogre?

Thitanium Prince - June 6, 2011 02:17 PM (GMT)
Great start of your blog, welcome here ^^ tha boss is amazing and also the unit is interesting :D

Hey Lad, and welcome to da warpath!

That is some very good painting you have going on right here. Your general looks splendid, and i like your conversion of his right hand. The BSB as well, is looking really good. All some seriously good stuff... :)

BUT.... why purple? :(

'cause I like creating other schemes than the GW's usual ones. When i played Warcraft 3, I use to pick them in purple or in yellow, but I hate painting this damned yellow, so the primary color became purple.

So, liked promised, the big big big'un !

Mat, thanks for your comments :D

PS : the email notification doesn't seem to work for me, is it normal ?

Thitanium Prince - June 7, 2011 10:18 AM (GMT)
Great filler, it's the same idea at the base of my gorcrilla ^^
And post the arachnarock even if it's missing the crew :D

Welcome to Da Warpath! Great job on the conversions, and I really like your bright green orc skin! :D However, please don't post more than one pic in a row without changing the line, it makes the site very wide!

I bet you must talk about the first pic. Sorry, it's made like that because on my french forum, we are limited in the number of pics in a reply. Do I have to delete it ?

Then, the new fresh arachnarok, still purple, sorry ;)

Actually, on the spider it works out just the way i like it :yarr!:

Jelmersaur - June 7, 2011 02:49 PM (GMT)
that is one awesome looking arachnarok.
i especially like the colours of the spider and the empire soldiers on there. :D

Dagreenskin - June 7, 2011 02:54 PM (GMT)
Mine arachanarok is purple too!
but yours is far better.
I like the way you do the teeth and horns, looks really cool.

Thitanium Prince - June 7, 2011 06:37 PM (GMT)
Great spider! Purple just fits it a lot :D and I appreciated the fact thst you used ALL the imperial victims from the classic and the plastic giants ^^

Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull - June 7, 2011 07:40 PM (GMT)
Great stuff, I like how the arachnarok is turning out. Keep up the great work.

Cheers,
G

Your spider is amazing!

Snikpik - June 7, 2011 10:50 PM (GMT)
YOur arachnarok is amazing. YOur choice of purple for your armour on your orcs, though it may be odd to some, it works really well and I like it. I love the unit filler, it reminds me of the ogre (or what ever it was) in the film 300 who came with the immortals. My only quibble is your picture size, it hurts my eyes!

It's a shame there's no more imperial victim in the GW sprues to fill such a huuuuuuge base. At the beginning, my idea was to make the beast climbing a steam tank, with a big sting hole and smoke going out of it. (And the pilot's bloody arm in the mouth of da spida  ) but the job was huge, and I had scheduled that beast for a tournament on june the 25th, so it's wasn't possible.

I could had done better for my last beast... my giant will still be the first one in my heart.

(And I have seen your gorcilla "borkito", it gave me many ideas ^^ Hopefully I don't have any one of those rats in my bitz box. Still have enough work for 3 long years, I think ...)

Can you show me plz ? For the teeth, I didn't know how to do them. I took the photo on the official site, and just tried to paint it the same. Undercoat in black, then 2/3 black - 1/3 graveyard earth for the main color (Always let a thin black line between the mandible and the tooth) and finally, highlights on the edges, with this mixing plus bleached bone. Thin brush required.

For the horn, classic : Black => Graveyard earth => khemri brown => bleached bone => white skull... long, boring but efficient ^^ ! That technique is on the GW's site, i remember they show it on a old gobbla. All you need is patience, young jedï ..

Bedtiiiiiiime !!!

Oh really? people always ask me not to reduce pictures to be able to see more details. I'll try to do better next time.
For the filler, it's normal. This blorc unit are the immortalz, like in the movie, with their helmets. (It's also the name of Grimgor's bodyguard in the background) so I made this mount of muscles as a tribute to da battle of Thermopylae. I wrote it on the first page, read it ! Don't only look da picts ;)

Welcome to da warpath.
 the spider and the unit filler..and of course, purple is my favorite color. Keep the pics coming, albeit a slightly smaller size. I like to see the whole thing without scrolling. ;)

BorkBork - June 11, 2011 04:42 PM (GMT)
nice trolls, i like the purple and green although the contrast between the head and purple shoulders of the troll seems a bit big (especially on the one on the right) Perhaps it's an idea to add some purple to the head to make the transition a bit more fluent.

Hope you understand what i mean.

Thitanium Prince - June 11, 2011 04:51 PM (GMT)
Great trolls, I like the use of the purple on the scales ;)

I have a question: did your orcs and goblins paint their araknarok purple, or did they search all the forests to find a purple one? :D

Skarsnik, the lord - June 12, 2011 08:14 AM (GMT)
Awesome work! My (also purple :D ) Arachnarok will cover back to her nest in shame after seeing your spider. It's truly fantastic.

- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D

It's the front view which make this effect. There is actually purple on his crest (right word?) but you cannot see it. When you turn the troll and that the head doesn't stand between purple scales, it easier to guess the shapes and the volumes of da beast.

Yeah ? I was doubtful about the possibility of painting purple on those mountains of grease, like I did on my stone trolls. At the beginning, I made a test with a Grey/white scale side and a purple one. I was more convinced by the white one but I had to add purple to match them to the rest of the army, and the scales were the only large area left. I think I'll totally like the result when all the 6 will be finished !

Ifound a fonction "resize to 800*600" on imageshack, i thought about you guys ^^

Mushrooms, dude ! Mushrooms ! Now you't know what will happen to you if you eat purple ones :vomit:

Now I know you like the way the trolls are painted, I'll post a pic once all finished, here's an other regiment... to wait ... :D
What do ya want ? Some squigs ??? Painted almost 2 years ago.

Ok, yeah a little purple on the crest would fix it. Always funny how pictures can distort reality.

excellent squig herd. Also smart choice of the gray bases, makes the purple stand out.

Thitanium Prince - June 12, 2011 04:54 PM (GMT)
You should do more yellow spots on the squigs, cause the maculated ones are amazing :D

a child of bodom - June 12, 2011 10:11 PM (GMT)
More squigs to come when they'll be available in finecast. I hate metal, if I take a picture of the same herd now, you won't recognize it. Several parties, 3 tournaments and each squig has 2 or 3 areas where the paint left. :(

I only play full plastic now ^^ !

I finally passed my exams, and finished to paint the last things I had to for the previous week end tournament.

First, here is the last of my 6 stone trolls, I painted it 'cause I lent the regiment to another guy, it was a good reason to finish a pack begun 4 years ago. The sun turned the purple into pink on the 5 other :(

Then, the river trolls, on my presentation tray, to see why bases are different.
