Wow! Very vibrant and nice skin tones.

The blue wyvern is a nice change from the usual color schemes.

Snikpik - May 25, 2011 06:23 AM (GMT)
Awesome start. I really like the red and yellows youv done plus the fillers.

Thitanium Prince - May 25, 2011 08:01 AM (GMT)
WOW! Now that's a great start :D you have some awesome pieces here :D I love the entire scheme, and the paintworks are magnifique, compliments ^^

Craze_b0i - May 25, 2011 10:05 AM (GMT)
Agreed, fantastic start. I would love to see more shots of the orc boyz unit, that has so much character and a nice mix of figures. How many models is in there, about 40?

Skarsnik, the lord - May 25, 2011 10:50 AM (GMT)
You are a very good painter mister! :D Especially the skin of the Trolls and greenskins look great. Also I'm a big fan of the Orc unit fillers. The only thing that looks weird is the water on the bases of the Trolls... It's too blue in my opinion. If there lives monsters like Trolls and other beasts I think it should look a bit more dirty and brown.

More pictures please!

- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D

Grupas - May 25, 2011 02:47 PM (GMT)
utterly amazing !!!
great painting/basing skills.

Whore Whammer - May 25, 2011 02:53 PM (GMT)
Hey guys, thanks so much for the kind words. Now that most of the rank and file is done, I can start working on some more interesting stuff.

I agree that the trolls' bases need a little more work...they look a bit too clean at the moment, and I was going for more of a 'swampy' look. BTW, this unit took freaking forever to paint - I love the new troll models, but they have so much detail that there's really no way to do them quickly.

The orc boyz unit currently stands at 35 strong. Many of them are straight from the box, although I used boar boyz shields. Most of the conversions are fairly simple as well, I'll try to get a few more pictures.

I feel like the night goblins need to be spiced up a little bit, maybe by adding a couple unit fillers or some mushrooms to the bases. Anyone got a good idea for cheap, easy mushrooms?

Skarsnik, the lord - May 25, 2011 04:25 PM (GMT)
Here's a tutorial made by Tjub, they make as very good mushrooms. :)

Tjub's tutorial how to make mushrooms

- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D

Skartooth The Third - May 25, 2011 04:58 PM (GMT)
These look absolutely fantastic  the muted tones of the troll and orc skin contrasts greatly with the yellow

Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull - May 25, 2011 06:08 PM (GMT)
Great looking models, is it possible to get some more pic's from the wyvern? I'm looking forward to more.

Cheers,
G

Still much work to be done, so keep an eye on this thread for more updates.
Any suggestions for what I should work on next? I feel like I need something colorful, maybe some squigs?

BorkBork - May 30, 2011 04:55 PM (GMT)
wow, impressive army shot!

I really like your paint style and the chilly look of your army

Thitanium Prince - May 30, 2011 07:26 PM (GMT)
the chariot is truly amazing too!

Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull - May 30, 2011 07:42 PM (GMT)
Hi,

lovely looking models, the wyvern looks just stunning mate. The rest from the army to.

I'm looking forward to more updates.

Cheers,
G

Thanks!

Also, in the last picture, if you look closely, you can see my cat's tail.

Small update here...a small unit of 20 night goblins with short bows:

Not much more to go now.

Squigkikka - June 7, 2011 12:08 PM (GMT)
Dude holy Zog :(

I'm crying golden tears here, it's so beautiful!

Man I paint so poorly :(

Craze_b0i - June 7, 2011 12:26 PM (GMT)
Agree, another fantastic looking unit. The only thing where I think you could do more is to add a bit of colour to the movement trays to make them match the unit.

Morten C - June 7, 2011 12:53 PM (GMT)
How on earth did i miss this blog???

Fantastic painting lad! all over. I actually have nothing else to say really. It's just bloody good painting and very creative modeling.

Please keep up the good work. I really enjoy it :) But do not hesitate at taking some more pictures... i would love getting pics from more angles when they're painted so well :)

theorox - June 7, 2011 12:56 PM (GMT)
Oh man ohman, ohmanohman!

That's really, really good! :)

Whore Whammer - June 7, 2011 04:24 PM (GMT)
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the comments. The last picture actually didnt come out too well, the lighting is poor and the banner is out of focus. I'll try to snap a couple more. The movement trays are unfinished at the moment, I plan to base them the same as the figures.

I used to dislike the BfSP night goblins, but after painting a few, they're actually quite nicely detailed, especially the guys with bows.

To do list for this army includes a doom diver, 3 fanatics, orc shaman, goblin shaman, and BSB. Then I should be able to put a 2400 pt force on the table (of questionable effectiveness!). So keep an eye on this space.

Thitanium Prince - June 7, 2011 06:33 PM (GMT)
Amazing unit! It's sooo easy to get tired of those tiny gobbos, and you paonted them sooooo good :D

Zorfie - June 7, 2011 08:41 PM (GMT)
Nice looking army.
But you know what would really suck-
If you were like this guy's dad, and when he put this out on the table you put your own army out and you had thought yours looked kinda good... but then...

Yeah, that would really kinda suck.
I would guess............

Skarsnik, the lord - September 5, 2011 06:48 PM (GMT)
Wow... Just wow... Everything looks so beautiful and well-fitting. Especially I like the bases, may I perhaps borrow the idea? ;)

- Cheers, Skarsnik.

Your army just looks awesome

Cheers,

Nice nice paint jobs.

Oh man, your Warboss on Wyvern, I started doing the exact same thing (using Gorbad + Azhag) a few days ago, Means I have to do it so it doesn't look like I'm copying you :P. Nicely done conversion though, do you have any advice / pointers or WIPs?

Of course. The basing is pretty straightforward. First, apply a think coat of modelling sand. Then, I started with khemri brown, washed with devlan mud, and highlighted with khemri brown with dheneb stone. I added Woodland Scenics honey-wheat static grass and some dark green bushes (I think these are also woodland scenics). For the rocks, I use something called balsa foam, you can find it at art stores (in the US, I go to Blicks). It is very durable and easy to shape. I find it a good alternative to pink insulation foam, mostly for its durability. It is slightly more costly however.

Haha no worries, I'm sure I'm not the first one to do it. As they say, imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

Sorry I don't have any WIP's, and I did it a while ago so don't remember all the specifics. The trickiest part is getting gorbad's body to fit on azhag's legs, as they are slightly different sizes. This takes a little filing and green-stuffing, but with a little work they can fit together quite nicely. I also did a head swap using the black orc standard top instead of Gorbad's head, which was also fairly straightforward (just took a little filing as I remember). Lastly I glued Azhag's flag into Gorbad's back. As it turns out, Gorbad's back has a nice little slot that the banner can fit quite snugly into. It did requre a pin for stability though.
Hope this helps a little, looking forward to seeing your conversion.

Quick update, my army took Best Appearance at Core Competency 2011 this weekend, a 40ish man tournament at the Chicago battle bunker.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!! :o :o

(But also went 1-4..... :( more practice is needed!)

Skarsnik, the lord - September 26, 2011 04:21 AM (GMT)
Congratulations for your Best Appearance award, you totally deserved it! :D

- Cheers, Skarsnik.

mana cerace - September 26, 2011 06:51 AM (GMT)

Thanks for the compliment. Most bases are from Gale Force 9, although a few are made from balsa/bass wood. GF9 ones are a little more expensive, but they dont warp, like mine seem to.

AcuteApathy - September 27, 2011 07:32 PM (GMT)
Absolutely stunning.

It's blogs like this that leave me undecided between whether I'm inspired and motivated to aspire to ever painting like this or depressed such that I lock my brushes away forever. :D

Groznit Goregut - October 19, 2011 03:36 PM (GMT)
Awesome job and congrates on the painting award. I love the skin tone. What colors are you using? The dark and highlights really make it pop, but are better blended than anything I've done.

If you can do more pictures and closer ups on your Orcs, I think people would love it (as I know I would).

amplebob - October 19, 2011 04:03 PM (GMT)
Man! Your painting is really great. The way you do the reds is brilliant.
Fantastic looking army. You must be pleased with it.

stinker - October 24, 2011 10:33 PM (GMT)
Great stuff! Have you considered adding lots of tiny musical instruments?
