Title: 'ard Boyz Round 2 Is Done!
Description: Great performance for my WAAAGH!

Silver - May 22, 2011 07:08 PM (GMT)
And what a performance it was, I got the most points if we ignore scenario extras, which unfortunately is what made me lose 1st place - those bonus points - in scenario 2 mainly - an extra FIVE (5) points for capturing the Crazed Fanatic which I did not manage to do D:

So I ended up 3rd place, with the best performance points-wise (Massacre, Massacre, Minor Victory - 1st and 2nd tied in their 3rd game)

Quite a feat for my Greenskins!

First game was against Dwarves, he had 7 war machines + anvil of doom, some hammerers with lord + bsb and lots of Dwarves

I had to cross a RIVER of Light to get to him. Won when I reached his machines ;D

Second game: 2 Hellpit Abominations and another 298 rats to go with those. Guess what army that was?
Well it ended up with me losing 230 victory points (forgot to use healing potion on my 1W Great shaman) while all he had left were 6 rats (gutter runners) - every other unit of mine had not been killed completely and all of his units were GONE except for those scouts. However due to time issues, I could not get the Fanatic :/

3rd Game - Dwarves again but a much better player with a much better list this time and much better dice... out of like 11 Grudge Thrower shots, he got a misfire ONCE (AFTER reroll of course) and got 8 Hits out of 10 non-misfiring shots.

I lost ALL my Big'uns and Black Orcs due to shooting, however my Trolls and Night Goblins cleaned house after his Anvil of Doom blew up (finally some good luck for me!) and I ended up getting just short of a Major Victory.

Not gonna bother with exhaustive reports however D:

Magnificent tournament, 6 hours drive from Montreal to reach Westboro in Massachusetts, not too far from Boston. Great players, and barely any rules disagreement which were promptly solved by both parties.

No comp, no sportsmanship count, just pure gaming - This was most likely my favorite tournament so far out of the many I've gone to.

No Teclis, no Elves at ALL actually! That was weird...

Well I was amongst the best players there and I'm happy with my performance despite losing 1st place to a minor detail!

Woohoo, I'm proud of my fello warpather, good for you! If I was a mod I'd throw you a medal just for making O'n'G's look awesome!

Da Git - May 23, 2011 12:41 PM (GMT)
Good job!

Interesting bit that about no Elves. I read another report on another forum, where there also were no High Elves and Teclis (but both Dark and Wood Elves) and no Chaos, but a LOT of Dwarven guns.

No Teclis and lots of Dwarves seems to have been the norm.

Nice work, did you get a prize?

Groznit Goregut - May 23, 2011 03:09 PM (GMT)
Glad to see Greenskins did well! I made it to 2nd round back in 7th Ed, but chocked on the last game. I couldn't make it the past couple years.

Did you see many other Greenskins? How did people react to seeing Greenskins at the event? Think them easy? Think them tough?

What list did you use? Roughly...

Silver - May 23, 2011 03:24 PM (GMT)

Pretty sure the prize is a $75 voucher for 3rd place - on the online store. Should receive it in a week or two.

4 other Orcs & Goblin players - didn't do as well as me however.

Skaven I played on Game 2 just before the game when he saw the matchup was against Orcs and Goblins he exclaimed, happily: "YES! ORCS AND GOBLINS!" most likely thinking he had an easy win comin' his way.

I proved him that its not the army but the general that makes a difference - no rats remained but for his 6 lil scouts.

>:D Curse of Da Bad Moon went through 5 units and ended up floating over 7 other of his units (not hitting them per the vortex rules) to end up on the other flank entirely - then a fleeing unit of slaves fled through it perfectly for an extra 56 Strength Tests haha!

It was mad fun.

My list was somewhat "points denial" for the first scenario:

Warboss with charmed shield, mr3, anti-heroes, Pot of Tough
Lv 4 Night Goblin with Heal pot, power stone
Lv 4 Orc with 4+ ward, dispel scroll

NG BSB with AoDestiny, GW
Lv 2 Night Goblin with Opal Amulet and Power Scroll

39 NG with 3 Fanatics, Nets, SB
62 NG with spears, Nets, SB
39 normal Big'uns - 2 hand weapons, flaming banner
5 wolf riders with spears
5 wolf riders with spears

10 Trolls
6 Trolls
38 Black Orcs with +1 Move Banner and Full command

Trolls are AMAZING when properly controlled.

However the guy was a great player, good sport and gave me a great game. Wasn't negative or anything when things went wrong for him.

Although its a harsh tournament - it brings great people around - at least in my experience there!

Compared to tournaments with Comp, Sports and Painting where I have seen people give 0 sports/composition when they lose, or when they have friends they give full points, etc - its really a better tournament even if its just a 'cheesefest'.

Squigkikka - May 23, 2011 06:22 PM (GMT)
I guess it varies a lot. Personally, those two dwarflists gives me shudders :P Blegh! Very Dwarven however.

What do you mean by "properly" controlled Trolls though? I've just started to use mine but I'm a bit lost when it comes to what they can and cannot do, and how I ought to deploy them. I mean, should they try to take things on alone, or support in a flank, or...?

Silver - May 23, 2011 07:27 PM (GMT)
Placing them near the general and managing to have them stay in the general's bubbble and possibly the bsb's bubble as well does not always work out fine.

Game 1 I used them to engage the stubborn LD10 hammerers with a lord in front of them - killed the lord after 3 rounds of 6x vomit, then killed all hammerers and BSB and finally killed war machines - those 10 trolls never got support and they didn't need it

Game 2 the unit of 10 charged a slave unit into dangerous terrain (swamp) on turn 2 and just made lots of Rat Meat even when flanked by an abomination - I never used support on them

The unit of 6 trolls threatened an abomination and a unit of slaves with an engineer - they didnt do anything but just the way they diverted that abomination over 3 turns away from me they paid themselves right there - they didn't see combat but they protected my flank perfectly

Game 3 they managed to kill so many dwarves, so many many many dwarves.

I'm really considering having even more trolls for next 'ard boyz.

I played O&G too. I got massacre, massacre, then was massacred in the final round.

1st 2nd and 3rd were all identical Demons lists. Here is their lists:

Kairos, Masque, Skulltaker, couple heralds -Leadership banner
3 groups of flamers
bout 18 horrors
7 fleshhounds
50 or so bloodletters

I pretty much was powerless to do anything. He didn't even take purple sun against me. Just overall ownage. Him having 90% flaming attacks and me having a big unit of trolls didn't help.

Silver - May 23, 2011 08:10 PM (GMT)
Flaming war machines were annoying but I did not meet up any flaming in close combat, which might've given me a good edge. Especially for OPEN LISTs where you KNOW where the Flaming Banner is.

Always happy to make the Greenskins stand out in an era of Kairos, Teclis and other Tea Party Friends.

Matchups were extremely in my favor though so that definitely helped (Dwarves, Skaven, Dwarves - who wouldn't be happy about avoiding all the WoC, Empire and Daemons?)

I really don't see really bad match ups these days for greenskins, in 7ed deamons where bad but now they aren't the toughest kid on the block. And magic heavy armies don't bother me, having 7 mages do help when they channel on a 4+ :D.

Cheers,
G
