Nice models, I hope that this blog keeps you motivated to paint.
Cheers,

nice work.
really like your paintstyle

Good looking orcs! I do think that viarihorc's weapon should be a little fleshed out. but cool conversions and great greenstuffing!

Nice looking models!
Really like some of the poses. Also I'm not sure about the gobo shield on the boy. It looks a bit small in his hands.
But if you're going for every Orc having a different shield I'd say stick with it.

Some more stuff i've done.

The musician:

And a little side project. i have a thing for horde armies

And just to show one of the reasons i am so slow...

Plastic and metal?
Jokes aside I like the banner, but I wonder if it may look a little too, well, little... The cloth is not very present. Obviously it's hard to tell without the rest of the model but it may kind of disappear beside the orc.

P.S. Imperial guard are cool!
Grom guttrippa - February 5, 2011 06:49 PM (GMT)
Thats not what i meant, wazoo....
And im going for a more tribal look, more totemic and such. but yes, i see what you mean, so ive changed the banner:

here are three new boyz:

Im considering sculpting a coif onto the great weapon one.
this is the work in progress champion:

a unit filler

The troll is a model i painted half a year ago, it was given to me by my friend who owns a hobby store. Im probably going to buy the river trolls, so this one has been relegated to filler duty.

The paint job isnt finished; im going to give it some blue tatoos, maybe give the skin a wash and im going to paint the chains. any suggestions?
Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull - February 5, 2011 09:00 PM (GMT)
The banner looks good so far, keep up the great work.
Cheers,

The second banner is much improved, I like it!
Wazoo - February 6, 2011 01:28 PM (GMT)
The banner looks much better now! I like it! Also your boss looks cool! As to the troll, your ideas are pretty much what I would have said anyway, so go for it!

Ok, ive been looking at my skin theme, and ive decided to change it for three reasons:
1. Im all out of camo green
2. It looks like if it glows... which i dont like
3. it takes way to long time
so, i painted up another savage orc, this time in the following way:
dark angels, catachan, Knarloc and then knarlock and bleached bone.
im happy with this scheme.
pics:

Only the skin and warpaint is finished.
these photos arent the best, but they are good enough. any thoughts?
Morten C - February 6, 2011 03:51 PM (GMT)
nice tattoos on that savage :) Well the entire paint job is actually rather brilliant. He looks quite dark and scary really, and still has a lot of detail and shading. thumps up. I'm looking forward to seeing whatever you decide to paint next.
oh... and the conversions look really interesting to! It's incredible how little kitbashing and greenstuff you need to make boy models look really up to date.
Wazoo - February 6, 2011 05:34 PM (GMT)
It's some good skin, but I wtill prefer the older way, and I like the idea of glowing Savage orcs, I imagine it being the glow of their belief in Gork and Mork to protect them!

Grom guttrippa - February 7, 2011 06:57 PM (GMT)
Wazoo, maybe, but what im going for with these orcs is a more gritty, tribal look, so to speak. One of the reasons i ditched the Dark angels-snot-goblins scheme was cause it was to bright, so im trying to avoid glow. Camo green looks like it glows!
but thanks for the compliment.
I was going to assemble some more orcs today, but i got home late and it was now cloudy, so i had no ventilation. no ventilation= bad idea to use plastic glue, so i didnt.
but here is the finished savage:

not the best picture, but you can see enough.
next update (hopefully): banner bearer!
also, im undecided by how ill paint my first unit of boyz. First i was thinking of giving them parchment-colored shirts... but in my fluff they often conduct ambushes, and parchment does not camouflage well against the browns and reds of an iberian summer. any ideas? Maybe i should just stick to parchment...
Grom guttrippa - February 9, 2011 09:24 PM (GMT)
Those new models are really exiting me. As for the "meh" raction to the savage orcs, i think that is mainly their paint job. not a fan of it, even though mine is admittedly similar. but here is the finished banner-bearer:

and here are some more finished regulars:

the second orc in the first cavalry base from the right will be the first test model, and the one for the other one is this:

Im trying to determine how i will paint the banner. any ideas?
Grom guttrippa - February 11, 2011 05:13 PM (GMT)
Sorry for triple posting, mods, but its their fault for not commenting!
So, finished the unit. going to base them and prime them on the weekend.

Ok, so im going to ask again, 'cause i need help with this. I cant decide how to paint their shorts. i know how i will paint thier pants, (vermin brown, badab black, vermin brown and a highlight with vermin brown+bleached bone), but i cant decide what i should paint their shirts. been thinking canvas colored, but that might be too bright for people who ambush in their background fluff. what do you guys think?
oh, and something that cheered me up today:
BorkBork - February 11, 2011 06:05 PM (GMT)
a brownish canvas collor with tiger stripe cammo!
and you got connected to the electric network or was it the blue sky?
Grom guttrippa - February 11, 2011 06:06 PM (GMT)
Its the blue sky... Spring has come to Lusitania...
hmm.. camo.. i never really considered that...
Kees (aka Ghenkadh) - February 11, 2011 07:08 PM (GMT)
First I thought some camo green, but that depends on the green you use for the orcs themselves.
After that indeed I thought too about some 'brownish canvas', but I have a fine linnen colour I use on the drum of the model for the community-painting. Hope it's later on this evening. That might be bright but would do. If you 'wash' it dirty enough it would probably do...
cheers,
Kees
BTW people not responding is of course because the new greenskin models. Everybody is drooling about that and furthermore soaking new 'facts' I guess...
Grom guttrippa - February 14, 2011 07:48 PM (GMT)
Yeah, i guess youre right kees. Anyways, the four boyz that are painted right now:

ill wait untill the weather improves before i take individual photos.

So now you guys must be thinking "hes slacking off again". Well, no! Ive got three more painted! thats seven out of 30.... But unfortunately iv'e not had any good lighting for photographs. However, ill share the game i had today.
I played against a mixed dwarf and high elf army. altogether they had 1700 points. They had a slayer, a pimped out thane, thirteen longbeards, ten thunderers, an organ gun and a cannon, eight miners, sixteen seaguard, a level two high elf mage, six shadow warriors, five ellyrian reavers and ten bowelves and an eagle
I had three units of thirty orcs, a unit of 40 night goblins, two doom divers, a black orc in every unit, warboss, bsb and black orc boss, and a night goblin biss with greatweapon in the night goblin unit. I had two wolf chariots and a boar chariot, and two units of five wolf riders. and a shaman, but he did nothing.
these pictures should give you an idea of the scenery:

We got the dawn attack scenario, and i deployed first. On my left flank i had a unit of 30 boys with my bsb (far away from anything!), a doom diver on a cairn, five wolf riders and a chariot (that spent half the game bottlenecked).
On the centre my units deployed in the following order: Doom diver, boar chariot, 40 night gobbos, wolf chariot, orc boys with warboss and wolf riders. on the right flank i had a unit of boys.
They deployed, my left to my right, the archers (isolated with no support), seaguard (in the center), longbeards. on the hill behind the spearelves and longbeards were the cannon and organ gun. On the left flank there were ellyrian reavers and the thunderers, once again rather isolated. The miners were in reserves.
I got first turn.
What happened was that my units advanced. In the flanks the ranger units were caught by a timely waaagh, and due to their isolation were easily dispatched. Both the chariots in the centre of my army were destroyed, one by cannon fire and one by the river. My warmachines were taken out by shades that had hid in the forest, but not before they took out the ellyrian reavers (on turn one) and killed five seaguard. In the center, my warbosses unit was locked in combat against the longbeards, both units whittelling at each other. My unit managed to stay put thanks to steadfast. The elf mage blew up, killing herself and nine elves. (but she did manage to ressurect four elves).
the miners emerged on my right flank, but were killed by the orcs who had just finished killing off the thunderers. The wolfriders on the right flank charged an annoying slayer, held him up for a turn and prevented him from doing any real damage. the eagle tried to stop my night goblins from manuvering, but my goblin boss charged out of the unit at it, and ran it down when it rolled a triple one for fleeing.
the spearelves, decimated but not routed, charged my warbosses block in the flank while it was fighting the longbeards, But my warbosses unit held and the elves where then charged in their flanks by the goblins and the last remaining wolf chariot. In the resulting combat, both the longbeards and the seaguards broke, and were chased down. the orcs also ran into the organ gun (the cannon had blown itself up). the last wolf riders hid behind the forest to not get killed. On the left flank the last elves were killed. by the end of turn five no "goodies" were on the field.
ill add photos of the new orcs when i have the weather and the time to photograph them.
Grom guttrippa - February 23, 2011 05:58 PM (GMT)
And as ive promised, here are some pictures of new orcsies, and some better pictures of old ones.
This one was mostly painted by my mother, though i did all of the last highlights. Not too bad, eh?

the only thing i am unhappy with is the freehand on the shield: i dont feel it fits my armies "feeling"
"Stumpy"

"Club man"

im very proud with his hand; the 40k orc comes with a hand to hold the shoota, but the "inside" of the hand is smooth and un detailed, so i had to freehand details onto it. I think it went rather well.
"horn"

and the entire unit so far:

... what a fine mother you have!
Again some fine painting. And why shouldn't the freehand fit? Looks great to me!
Keep on going with the good work,
