Title: Skarsnik's Not-so-greenskins (an Army Blog)
Description: A miscasting Night Goblin Shaman!

Skarsnik's Not-So-Greenskins
Hello, my fellow goblins and trolls!
Finally my other army projects are done - I have my Ogre tournament army painted, so I can move on the greatest challenge - my greenskins. :) Although I'm painting both my VC and O&G at the same time, my O&G are taking the priority most of the time.
Yeah... So, I have something like 9000 points of greenskins, and I decided I'm going to paint a tournament army first, then move on the other models.
Here's a list what I've painted at the moment.
THE ORCS & GOBLINS PROJECT:* 2 Savage Orc Shamans/Great Shamans
* Orc Big/War Boss on a Boar
* 3 Night Goblin Big/War Bosses
* Goblin Big Boss on a Wolf
* Savage Orc Big Boss (BSB)
* Night Goblin Big Boss (BSB)
* Goblin Big Boss (BSB)
* 2 Night Goblin Shamans
* 27 Goblins (+3 Skulkers)
* 61 Night Goblin archers
* 16 Night Goblin hand weaponists
* 39 Savage Orcs
* 10 Wolf Riders
* 3 Fanatics
* 5 Arrer Boyz
* 14 Trolls
* 40 Black Orcs
* 2 Wolf Chariots
* 6 Night Goblin Spear Chukkas
* 2 Goblin Rock Lobbers
* 2 Goblin Doom Divers
* 2 Mangler Spiders
* Pump Wagon
* Giant
My current color theme is made of lots of different down-to-earth colors and rusty weapons.
Anyway, I'll be updating this blog as much as possible. Hope you enjoy following this. :)
- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D

Looking forward to seeing your work :)
Make sure you get a few of the squig herder wearing the kilt with bagpipes, make a great musician for night gobbo blocks.

Looking good! I really like the savage orcs, what colours did you use for the blue tatoos? It's really striking.

Skarsnik, the lord - January 23, 2011 11:03 AM (GMT)
Thanks! :) The color I used was Mordian Blue. After painting the symbols I edged them with Chaos Black.
I have some work done, here's some pics of my Wyvern's process.
First of all the rider - both the mounted and the infantry models.

Then the base of the Wyvern.

Then the Wyvern itself, unfortunately it's not painted yet.

It'z coming for ya!

And finally both of the models.

Sorry for the bad pics, I'll fix them ASAP. The metallic parts of the Black Orc don't shine that much in reality. :rolleyes:
- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D

Looking good! I really like the detail you put into the wyvern's (griffin's?) base! It ought to be bloody impressive when fully painted!

Paiant Slapah - January 24, 2011 03:33 AM (GMT)
The orcs, and especially the wyvern base look great. I'm having a hard time imagining an orc riding a bird/gryphon, though. I keep thinking the orc is about to kill it and eat it for dinner.
Skarsnik, the lord - January 24, 2011 02:43 PM (GMT)
Thanks! Yep, I know Griffon sounds a bit weird as a mighty Warboss' mount, but I wanted to keep it as a bit different than the normal Wyverns (and I don't like the green lizard of GW :rolleyes: ).
Another reason why I wanted the Griffon is the beautifulness of the model and if I remember correctly, a some kind of Griffon is an old Scottish mythic creature (or have I mixed it with Rok bird? :unsure: ).
Anyway, I got a modelling idea to cheer the model up and make it a bit more Scottish looking. Maybe some kind of tartan clothe on the Griffon's back? Some shields and/or bags and shields on the beast's back too. Any ideas? :)
And by the way, I found this model from my treasure chest. I painted him in summer, what do you think about it?

- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D

Very unique take on the wyvern rider. Looking forward to seeing some paint on it
Skarsnik, the lord - January 25, 2011 06:21 PM (GMT)
Thanks! :) I got something painted today... An Orc!

- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D

Looking good! I love the gore on the choppa, how did you do it?

Craze_b0i - January 26, 2011 12:20 AM (GMT)
Hey, nice minis. I like the idea of a Griffon-Wyvern. If an orc warboss can tame something as large as a wyvern he would clearly be able to tame a griffon as well. Either that or just steal one from a high elf noble. :D
I also like the goblins with the units fillers and the boss guy with 2 swords.
But not so sure about the jacket on your orc warrior, he seems to be wearing fake Burberry which to me does not look good. No offence. :P
Skarsnik, the lord - January 26, 2011 08:09 AM (GMT)
Thanks for your comments. :D
@ Wazoo: First of all I glued some sand on the blade. After painting the sand black I started to paint the blood. First paint some dark red on the blade (I mixed Chaos Black and Mechrite Red, but Gore Red or so is ok), after that drybrush it with Mechrite Red. After washing the blade with Devlan Mud it is almost ready... When the blood is dry, I stuck some white glue (or wood glue) on the blood to make it look shiny. Done. :)
@ Craze_b0i: I agree, I was a bit disappointed with the shirt. :huh: I think it needs some black lining, now it looks like a clown shirt. :lol: I'll see what I can do today.
No Orcs in this update, but I have something I painted for a contest... A dinner!

It's White Dwarf made in 5th edition. :) I bought a Dwarf army from auction in web very cheaply a couple of weeks ago. Now I have sold the army away and I got ~ 60€ money and a couple of models I wanted to keep (the White Dwarf for an example). :lol:
- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D
Skarsnik, the lord - January 26, 2011 01:42 PM (GMT)
A double post! :o
After reading a bit for tomorrow's test I got something painted... 3 Goblin crewmen!

- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D
Wazoo - January 26, 2011 09:40 PM (GMT)
Good looking crew! I really like the eyes!
Wazoo
Skarsnik, the lord - January 28, 2011 05:10 PM (GMT)
Thanks! :D
Today I painted a Bully who finishes the crew. What do you think about it? :D

"And nao wii niidö lobba!"
I undercoated 5 Night Goblins and an another Bully too, my target is to paint them at this weekend. After that I'll paint a Lobba and finally paint the Griffon.
- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D
Paiant Slapah - January 29, 2011 12:09 AM (GMT)
Nice paint jobs on the bully and the crew. Can't wait to see the finished lobber.
Paint Da Rust - January 29, 2011 02:53 AM (GMT)
Nice work!
I don't know if you noticed or not...but...you posted a picture of a Dwarf a few back. BLASPHEMY! ;)
Actually it would be blasphemy to not comment on how cool he turned out. Very striking paint job on da stunty!
meyer63026 - January 29, 2011 06:55 AM (GMT)
I really like those 3 goblins. Very strong colors and a good combination too.
Keep up the great work :D
Skarsnik, the lord - January 29, 2011 07:47 AM (GMT)
Thanks! :D
Yes, I indeed sent a picture of a Dwarf on the first page. I painted him for a painting contest in a Warhammer Forum, and decided to send a pic of him to here too. :)
Three Night Goblins are painted, I'll send a couple of pictures about them tonight.
- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D
Skarsnik, the lord - January 30, 2011 02:35 PM (GMT)
A double post! :o
I didn't have time enough to take pictures about the Night Goblins, but I'll send a couple of pics of all five tomorrow. :) I've been busy with my new project... I finally got my Flames of War starter set yesterday. A friend of mine had bought a starter set too, so I changed by StugG's into his Shermans... Now I have six M4 General Shermans for my new British army. :D
Three of them are painted now, too. Here's a couple of pics.

What do you think about them? :) They are my first FoW miniatures I've ever painted by the way.
- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D
BorkBork - January 30, 2011 03:07 PM (GMT)
i dont think you should worry too much about the collor differense on the shermans.
They look very good, and i doubt the historical tanks all had the same collor anyway.
i dont know exactly how the allies organised their painting, but i think the germans used a very thick paint/pigment that tankcrews and/or maintenance teams in the field had to thin down with a benzine like liquid. So each tank looked a bit different
and the gobbos look excellent too; good to see you back in business :lol:
Skarsnik, the lord - January 30, 2011 03:33 PM (GMT)
Thanks! :) It's good to know that tanks weren't all painted with same color. I know how the world war II went (which country attacked which and so on) but I don't know about guns or tanks much. Yet. :D
I just started painting the last two Night Goblins, so there will be pics after a couple of hours.
- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D
BorkBork - January 30, 2011 03:40 PM (GMT)
basicly all you need to know about war(s) is that it always turns out in a horrible mess where it is impossble to maintain uniform regulations and any other official standards. Especially the guys in the frontlines quickly became masters of improvisation.
Especially when fronts were moving quickly the supply chain could never keep up
Skarsnik, the lord - January 30, 2011 04:55 PM (GMT)
I'll keep that in my mind. :)
But here's the Night Goblins I promised earlier, now I have 20 models done!

- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D
Skarsnik, the lord - February 1, 2011 05:03 PM (GMT)
I painted a Bully today, too...

Next time I'll send a couple of pics about my new five Night Goblins I'm going to paint.
- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D
Wazoo - February 1, 2011 09:17 PM (GMT)
Good stuff, your night goblins are coming along nicely! I like the tanks too but I would say that you should paint the white star a little more dirty, it seems a little stark. Possibly mix a little bleached bone (or similar) into the white? Otherwise they are really cool models and I particularly like how the undercarriage came out!
Wazoo
Skarsnik, the lord - February 7, 2011 05:04 PM (GMT)
Thanks! :D The stars are now fixed, Devlan Mud turned them into a bit more uncleaner.
I had a tournament on the weekend, so I didn't have time to paint miniatures... But now I'm back, so let the Night Goblins come! :o

I'm a bit busy on this week, as I have two tests at school and I promised to write a battle report... :huh: But I'll paint two Night Goblins more and undercoat five more on this week, promise.
- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D
BorkBork - February 7, 2011 05:27 PM (GMT)
nice. :)
but no carbonite for han solo this time?
Craze_b0i - February 7, 2011 06:25 PM (GMT)
Omg your gobbos have killed Han Solo. :badgobbo: :badgobbo: :badgobbo:
Grom guttrippa - February 7, 2011 06:35 PM (GMT)
you... you... you... you MURDERER!
Skarsnik, the lord - February 7, 2011 07:54 PM (GMT)
I told them, but they didn't listen! :angry:
My Goblins are sneaky indeed, after backstabbing Solo they got some company...

And finally an Orc who wants to be more than he is... He killed a local chap who fooled him in poker, and after burying him he wrote "Chuck Norris" on his gravestone... Why? Because he wanted to tell his mates he killed him! Ridiculous, right? Everyone knows Chuck Norris cannot be killed. :yarr!:

- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D

Yesterday night I painted the Wyvern (*krhm* Griffon). Here's some (bad quality) pics of her.

I painted the feathers with traditional brown and bone -style, but the animal side was painted in panther theme. I thought tiger stripes would be a bit too colorful and happy-looking for my Warboss. :lol: I had great fun painting this model, and I'm especially happy how the feathers and eyes turned out. :) But I think the Warboss himself needs some details, he looks pretty poor on the back of the Griffon. :rolleyes:
- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D
Kera Foehunter - February 12, 2011 12:52 PM (GMT)
love the griffin !! great job !! :wub: :wub:
Klavier - February 12, 2011 07:45 PM (GMT)
great griffon! impressive paintjob for the eyes!
Skarsnik, the lord - February 14, 2011 07:12 PM (GMT)
Thanks! :D
I got something painted today... A Night Goblin Bigboss with great axe and double swords! I used the Bigboss model, except I cut off the thingy on his back and added the swords. Don't care about the white thing on the blood, it's just the gloss which wasn't perfectly dry when I took the pictures.

What do you think about him? The next model to paint is an another Bigboss.
- Cheers, Skarsnik. :D
BorkBork - February 14, 2011 07:31 PM (GMT)
wow, you r going fast
Love the unit (btw are you german?)
paint job on the warboss on wyvfon is fantastic. Although an orc on a griffon takes some getting used to.
