Title: Warhammer Empire Summer Campaign
Description: Treachery and Greed

Draig - February 15, 2010 01:51 PM (GMT)
This year, in addition to Da Warpath's annual Animosity Campaign, our friends at Warhammer Empire will be running an online campaign of their own. These have been carefully designed not to overlap, as A5 will be in its usual slot around Halloween, so you can play in both!

For those unfamiliar with the concept, an online campaign isn't about online Warhammer. You play games as normal, against any opponent in your area, and report them online, much in the nature of the big GW summer Campaigns. Each report gets tallied and the different factions (groups of players) capture ground or loose it as a result. It's like a giant game of Risk, played out with games of Warhammer instead of dice rolls. Stories get told, artwork created, as players battle out for a corner of the Warhammer World.

The Warhammer Empire boys do an absolutely fantastic job of these things. Their last campaign, Crisis in Marienburg, was excellent, so I thoroughly recommend anyone interested head over to Warhammer Empire and have a look at the various threads there. Contests have begun and the Campaign army lists are already up.

The Greenskins have their own faction, after we made so much noise in the last one, so let's take advantage! There will also be a shiny medal for all participants, so there's no excuse not to get involved.

See you there gits.

QUOTE
Treachery and Greed

The third warhammer-empire online campaign

"Mercenaries are disunited, thirsty for power, undisciplined, and disloyal; they are brave among their friends and cowards before the enemy; they have no fear of god, they do not keep faith with their fellow men; they avoid defeat just so long as they avoid battle; in peacetime you are despoiled by them, and in wartime by the enemy."

The year is 2203, and the various warring states that make up Sigmar's Glorious Empire have settled into an exhausted peace. But thousands of mercenaries still fill the land, and everywhere there is pillage and death.

With the collapse of the Marienburg Alliance, the Tilean states have again turned upon each other. Proud Remas, the remnant of an ancient empire, faces the expanding naval power of Miragliano. In Sartosa, the pirate prince gathers his war fleet. These three greater powers dominate their neighbors and seek each other's destruction.

All three hire vast armies of mercenaries, little realising the horrors they will unleash on their own people. And all the while, greenskins raise their ragged banners and build ramshackle ships.

- Fight for profit and glory in Tilea and the Border Princes! Support Remas, Miragliano or Sartosa, or join with the raiding forces of the Badlands.

- Strike a balance between personal greed and the needs of your comrades.  Each player will obtain personal gold through conquest, but will depend upon the support of their fellow faction members to succeed. Bribe and betray your rivals. Assassinate princes, extort kings, and carve out your own realms. Gain titles and honors, for as long as you are strong enough to defend them!

- Expect all the features of the Crisis in Marienburg campaign to return, including a detailed map, extensive background, and special campaign army lists.

- If you can't play games of Warhammer, you can still participate by submitting 'fluff reports'- short stories that can be as valuable as victories on the gaming table.

The campaign begins in summer 2010.

Beithir Seun - February 15, 2010 02:07 PM (GMT)
Also worth mentioning is the fact that they W-E guys have written four varient army lists (including a Greenskin one, with a little help from the Animosity boys and gals). Having read all of them last night, I fully intend to use them - the Greenskin list in particular is great :D

Anyway, CiM was indeed a fantastic campaign (almost the rival of the Animosity campaigns :ph43r: ) so I'm looking forward to this B)

Draig - February 15, 2010 02:11 PM (GMT)
I'll be organizing the Greenskin faction until someone else steps up. The campaign forum won't be going live for a bit yet, but feel free to slip me a PM if you're interrested in playing for the Green Team!

Uh, thank you. :D

We do indeed have four army lists that add in some flavor and a lot of variety. Mercenaries (Empire and DoW combo), Skaven, Undead and of course the aformentioned green ones.

We also have our first newsletter up and ready. So keep on the look out for more info!

amysrevenge - February 15, 2010 07:44 PM (GMT)
I think I'll watch from the bleachers for this one. My only playable army right now is Dwarfs, and I don't think my greenskins will be ready for deployment until Halloween at the earliest.

Ya... I think I did a good job on that list ;)

bloodforgedorcs - February 15, 2010 08:04 PM (GMT)
yay a nice simple online campaign :D and a chance for a medal. I think im definatly get involved with this

Draig - February 15, 2010 08:10 PM (GMT)
I should add, if anyone wants a bit of info about how this will work, or has general questions about online campaigns, do feel free to ask. We have a good pool of veterans here who are happy to help. Trust me when I say it's not as complex as it can sound!

Goomb - February 15, 2010 10:40 PM (GMT)
Veteran players? Who dat? Someone call my name?

As one of the Mob of Warlords for the first CIM (I think I was Overlord), Team Green took the world by storm and thoroughly smashed our way around the map on both land and sea. We took some great prizes, made some poor Sigmarities and stunties a bit angry and turned the Marienburgers (our own faction) upside down. It was fantastic, and some of the characters (Snivels!) and activities (Mugruk's Grog Hut!) that we organized still bring a smile to my face to this day. Good times....

I cannot say enough about how fun something like this really is. For new players, there is a whole world of options open to you, so if you are interested, step forward. Even if you don't play much, here is a quickie list of talents and skills that are always in hot demand:

Players to report battles
Fluff writers
Newsletter writers
Diplomats to talk to other factions
Strategists (think Risk or chess!)
Hobbyists to create fun characters
Creative people who just want to break stuff and have a great time doing it. Yeah, we all fit into that category!

Keep watching....this is going to be a lot of fun. I am particularly thrilled that the Animosity GMs will get to actually play. Hurr hurr hurr!

See, this is what happens when you gate-crash en masse. They invite us back for a second round, as long as we agree not to sneak into another faction and wreak havoc with the chain of command. Who are we simple greenies to turn down such a pers'nal invite ter krump?

grok - February 17, 2010 05:28 AM (GMT)
I intend to play in this very excited, i played a little in the Gw campaigns, mostly in the Nemis Crown campaign in mega battles mvp for evil every time and im excited to get involved in another campaign.

A little confused with how it works im going to look on the links and pm draig but if anyone wants to give me the low down here i'll be continually checking for updates.

Im very excited to add my little WAAGH to the the fellow green skin community

Oh and could someone send me a link to the variant list for the campaign i could not find them.

wissenlander - February 18, 2010 05:34 PM (GMT)
The greenskin specific army list can be found here. If you go to the main forum on W-E.com (Elector's Forum) all of the lists are stickied at the top for easy reference. Once the PDF versions are available those will be the official lists.

There's still a lot of information to come, so some things will need to be revealed in time, but if you have played in GW campaigns then you are pretty well familiar with what will happen as ours is similiar in design. Goomb's list above is a pretty good intro to what more will be of use, too. If you have anything specifically to ask I could probably help you out in some regard.

Goomb - February 18, 2010 05:44 PM (GMT)
Oh! You forgot to mention: there is a conversion contest going on RIGHT NOW, and entries are due March 1st. Participants should create a character based on those lists Wiss' provided the link for, and bonus points can be earned by depitcting one or more of the magic items. Entering in this contest will earn you campaign gold, which will be used for a variety of purposes in the actual campaign. Get movin, ya runts! Weez need sum shinies fer da fight!

Looking at the list: WOW, there are a lot of items, so check it out. You might get inspired for your army theme with this list! Good work wissenlander; with help from fauthsie, Draig, Viera, Warlord, Warhammerlord_Soth, Mogsam, Gneisenau and Aldaris! You deserve a cold one after putting all this together.

Again, entries are due on March 1st! I will put a post in the P&H forum as well.

I believe Draig and Fauthsie are hard at work already, although F might be up to something rather unorcy....

EDIT: Oh da baby! Whomever wrote these was thinking about my Wyvern Jousting Character:

QUOTE
Fist o’ Rage

A set of brass knuckles that bears the image of Khorne upon it.

Rules:  +1 attack.  Gives the bearer frenzy.  20 points.

Kaptain’s Kutlass

Every sea captain needs a trusty weapon.  Many will have them blessed by oracles to enhance their fighting prowess.

Rules:  bearer gains +2I.  Also allows the bearer to treat water terrain as normal terrain.  15 points.

Sweet! Conversion City! Goomb Knuckles and Rusty Choppa.....

wissenlander - February 18, 2010 06:37 PM (GMT)
Wow, I told wiffed on that one. My apologies! There will be other conversion contests as well if you can't get in on this one.

Here's the link to the character conversion contest.

Goomb - February 18, 2010 06:51 PM (GMT)
S'all right, Wiss. We know you don't want us to get much gold to start since we typically run all over the place and create big messes. What special projects will we come up with for this one?

I will be starting my git tonight. I need a new boss anyway! :yarr!:

By the way, the misfire rules for the cannon and whatnot was particularly clever. You might see that (or a varient of that) in the future. :ph43r:

It's impossible to create a mess in this campaign. All the factions have exactly the same goal: pillaging Tilea. So any orcs involved will be behaving in the same way as everyone else.

Flawless textbook Military defence of a beseiged country anyone? Orc heroes save Tilea from terrifying puffy sleeved invaders! Goomb declared Emperor of all mankind!

Stop hacking into Draig's account, Goomb.

rufus sparkfire - February 19, 2010 03:39 PM (GMT)
Tilea is not a country anyway. It's a collection of mutually-hostile city-states.

Draig - February 19, 2010 03:47 PM (GMT)
Hold up hold up. Call it all off gits. Everywun back to da badlands. Dis eres not a kountry like we fought it woz. Itz actually a kollection of mutu-aley hostile citee <falls to the floor, choppa inna skull>

rufus sparkfire - February 19, 2010 04:07 PM (GMT)
There's nothing preventing individual orc players from taking bribes from the Tilean rulers to defend them, of course. And nothing preventing them stabbing those rulers in the back either. Or in the head. Wherever.

Draig - February 19, 2010 04:39 PM (GMT)
I was just funning. I appreciate the open ended nature of this actually. Should be a good thing to shake up the old dynamics a bit.

As for Draig from what I hear, Draig and V have their own plans... If he ever gets away from Uni that is... lol

I accept yer nom-i-nashun!

I ain't too upset, F, I just was hoping we could field Da Dream Team again and ride roughshod over the umies again. Your defection will be felt, but I can find another snot to plug into yer place. There is a time to team, and there is a time to fight :D

Oh, I have a good jump on my character for the contest. I got out the Dust Devils and GS last night and had some fun. It helped having a show about the Sahara on History International last night. Turbans on an orc can be fussy.

Back on topic, Da Kaptain is working hard on a new Warboss as well for the campaign. I know it will dissapoint alot of gitz but Da Kaptain is off claiming his own islands again, but there is a rumor on the wind about a new and terrible Warboss, a Warboss left for dead in the CIM, a Warboss seeking revenge on his own kind. Who could it be........

rufus sparkfire - February 20, 2010 11:23 AM (GMT)
On the subject of the character contest, keep in mind that campaign gold is something that belongs to individual players, and not to factions (whatever those may end up being). And it doesn't matter if the character you enter has anything to do with what you end up playing or not. You can enter an orc captain even if you plan to play as a dwarf army (as if!) during the campaign. You still would get the gold.

Gorby - February 20, 2010 11:04 PM (GMT)
Lol, I read this like, day before yesterday and thought the due date was the 20th for some reason, so yesterday afternoon I rushed to the hardware store for some epoxy putty, grabbed the first type I could see, and then got home, slapped together my model, found I was out of sandpaper, and then proceeded to paint regardless. I was pretty ticked at myself when I found out it wasn't due til the first, lol. Still, was fun to do a quick conversion, good practice for the model exchange, which was the date I got mixed up with, lol.

Beithir Seun - February 20, 2010 11:43 PM (GMT)
Just got all the bitz I need for my character. Now let's just hope I can finish it in time :yarr!:

Lol... I have 2 models under construction... neither of which are green...

PS

Rufus... when do we see some mechanics? I am not deciding on which side im going to play until i see how these individual factions are going to work... ;)

rufus sparkfire - February 21, 2010 11:02 AM (GMT)
Game mechanics? Not for a while, I think. But we haven't really said anything about the factions either.

There will be four of them, and they won't be like the strongly-defined factions we had in Crisis in Marienburg (or the ones in A4). Each one will be a mercenary company - a loose association of mercenary commanders. There won't, for example, be a 'Reman' faction, though we implied there would be.

We are borrowing the 'figureheads' idea from the A# campaigns. We are also using a system where each player accumulates individual gold, from conquest, bribery, and through being paid by a patron (such as the leaders of the Tilean states). This gold acts as a sort of 'score,' but can also be used to bribe other players and pay for all sorts of other things.

Players will have to work with their faction fellows to succeed, but will also need to act in their own interests. That's where the 'treachery and greed' come in.

Oh, and conquering certain map zones will make titles available to the players, such as 'King of Luccinni.' But players will have to decide amongst themselves who gets those titles...

Anyway, that's some fairly random information. I should think there will be a proper explanation at some point!

With you and Mogsam on the GM team I'm not surprised! Nice idea with the titles. Will you be doing fluff battle reports too? Can't wait to see this one shake out.
