Title: New Player: Army Comments?

simply squish - December 14, 2007 10:48 PM (GMT)
:yarr!: I am a new Warhammer player, and played my first battle last night. There I learned that setup is at least as important as army content. I am playing a campaign, and I am in a position where I am squished between dwarves and high elves. High elves are not a problem (right now) but dwarves.... I need some help there.

My 2300 point army contains 4 heroes.
The army is as follows:

HEROES:
Wrag War-Eater: Savage Orc Shaman(level 1 wizard)
Collar of Zorga
Waaagh! Paint

Rhed Jesta: Orc Big Boss: BSB
Light Armor
Martog's Best Basha
Effigy of Mork

Grumpsh Elf-Splitter: Black orc big boss: General
heavy Armor
Shield
Ironback Boar
Guzzla's Battle Brew
Spear

Gurgla Squig-Cruncher:Night Goblin Shaman(level 1 wizard)
2x Dispel scrolls

WAAAGH!-ers
Da Red Skulls: 20x Orc Big Un's
Full Command
Lots'a Choppa's

Black Sticks: 20x Night Goblin Spearmen(speargobs?)
Full command
Fanatics [3]

Violent Runts: 20x Night Goblin Spearmen(speargobs?)
Full Command
Fanatics [3]

Squig Sticka's: 20x Night Goblin Archers
Full Command
Fanatics [3]

Gray Vines: 10x Forest Goblin Spider Riders
Full Command
Bows

Dead Lead: Spear Chukka

Snake Fang: Spear Chukka

Troll Launcher: Rock Lobber
Bully

Mine Haters: 5x stone trolls

Da Summersmif: Giant

Oink!: Boar Chariot

Squeal: Boar Chariot

Any tips on how to set up/ strategy/ units to get?

Well, I'm not the best of people to help out with advice and such, but the Help Me Learn To Play thread is full of ideas and such, so you might like to have a read of that.

One thing I can help with at the moment is that your Black Orc Big Boss on the Ironback Boar can't actually be equipped with a Spear - he's got Armed to Da Teef, and you can only replace that with a Magic Weapon :(

Also, I can help with this since you're new here:
On behalf of myself and the rest of the Moderation Team, I would like to welcome you to Da-Warpath. You'll find a lot of helpful and friendly people, and almost any rule question you have can be probably be answered by someone here, and everyone is always happy to hear your opinion.

If you have any problems or any further questions, feel free to PM myself or one of the other Mods. We are always happy to answer any questions about the forum that you may have.

Cheers,
Admin Goofycabal

Well welcome to warhammer. I too at the very start had problems with the dwarves. I find night goblins very useful against dwarves put your night gobbos in front of everything so that the dwarves will be forced to shoot down the gobbos instead of your good units. Plus those night goblin fanatics packs a punch. Well thats my advice good luck!

Hey, welcome to Da Warpath!

I would add about 5 more to each of your units. You don't have to be big 'uns to be tough in combat. Regular orcs with shield and choppa are pretty tough. You also put a lot of points into both trolls and the giant. I hope they are both working for you. Consider dropping the points for one into another orc unit. Lastly, you might want to pump your wizards up to lvl 2. If you are going to have 2, you might as well try to pump it up.

Hello simply squish,

Welcome to Da Warpath mate. I know what you mean about those stunty types.

I played Dwarfs against my missus quite a bit and was seriously loosing as my tactics were pretty much charge into her units head on. I also had 20 Orcs in my units and as Groznit says adding another 5 does make a difference.

Later I also started to co-ordinate my charges more and used my fast cav to charge at the side at the same time as a unit of Orcs in the front. They are dwarfs so they have real trouble moving out of harms way.

I'm not the best tactician around, so forgive me if this is beneath your current level of skill.

Bidiot. :D
