Title: Magic Feasible In 7th Ed O&g?
djcasyun - April 13, 2007 05:42 PM (GMT)
I've seen lots of armies with the standard BSB with morks spirit totem and a scroll caddy-
Given all the changes with magic, has anyone had any sucess with a moderate to heavy magic O&G army? 2 level 2's doesn't seem to do it-but in 7th, taking a Great Shaman seems very risky.
Has anyone tried a great shaman or 3 level 2's? How did they work out?
Any other units in the army taken as support?
My initial thought was that a great shaman was likely to die or loss a good deal of effectiveness with the first miscast-and no staff to save him in 7th.
I have thought about a BO warboss (full kit), with 3 level 2's-1 orc, 2 night goblin.
The carry (in total): 3 dispell scrolls, pipes of doom, 'itty ring.
I also took a block of black orcs to plant 2 of them in. The third would be in the warboss's unit.
Any reactions, alternatives, thoughts?

I use often 8 levels of Orc magic(levels 4+2+2) + a BSB in 2000 points..
Supported by 160+ other models..
Very good stuff especially if you get the Waagh spell.
Miscast, well sometimes you loose a wound, but the chance is he will kill himself eventually..
It's the Orc way of life:P
Getting killed in combat is also a possibility for a BO so what's the difference?
Don't be so scared of the miscast table it hardly ever kills you outright..

I use a list with a Orc Warboss and 3 Lvl2 Orc Shamans.
It has performed very well this far. But if you are going to use O&G magic, you will have to include the 'Itty Ring and the Horn of Ugrok. They are truly vital.

Definitely. 2 bound useful spells really make your opponent curb his Dispel dice usage.

Thanks for the feedback-aside from bound items, anything else out of the ordinary that works well? I normally take 2 doom divers and 2 spear chukkas.
I take it Pipes of doom work well in this too, with the horn-at least ensures the horn gets a scroll

I have had pretty good luck running 2 * L2s, with 1 powerstone each, and the horn and the ring.

I run 2x Lvl 2's <Goblins as I prefer little waagh> one with staff of sneaky stealing the other with a scroll and the itty ring. Its been very very good to me better then when I had a lvl 4 and a lvl 2....
I used to run the Horn but tbh in this day and age to many units/ characters get MR so its kinda pointless.
Cheers Sart

I haven't played many games yet, but Goblin magic can be lethal (especially Brainbursta) if you can get it off. I've had great success with using power stones to dominate one magic phase and cause as much devastation as possible.

Yeah, greenskin magic really isn't that bad, provided you don't get too many Gazes of Gork and don't miscast too often. I tend to run two lvl 2s with both bound items (my general has the Horn and if possible the Big Boss takes the Ring), the Staff of Stealing and a Power Stone and that tends to do okay for me.

Magic works fine, I guess. I never get it to work proparly, main problem being dispell rolls. I just don't really know any way to get rid of the pesky smile on the lizards face or stunty. Certainly, getting the ring and the horn might work, if I could find a way to remember the damned things.
Is there any other way?
Not really huhn? Crap.
Well, as it stands, I use my shaman as a trap most of the time. Oponents are easily cought of balance if they can get a squishy freebie, and shamans are rather squishy. Not that expensive, and that's why it works sometimes.
It has worked to my disadvantage a couple of times, mind you.

Avian,
How do you configure your warboss & big boss in this set up-on boars? Is the big boss your bsb?

Both fighty characters go on boars if they are orcs. Typical setup for a mixed army is:
Black Orc Warboss
- Akk'rit Axe
- Best Boss 'At
- Horn of Urgok
- Heavy armour
- Shield
- Boar
Black Orc Big Boss
- Battle Standard
- Martog's best Basha
- 'Itty Ring
- Heavy armour
- Boar
Goblin (or Orc) Shaman
- Power Stone
- Dispel Scroll
Night Goblin Shaman
- Staff of Sneaky Stealin'

My suggestion is to be very veeeery sneaky, and remember those, but also take a power stone (or mushrooms if you feel lucky), and wait until they use their dispel's up. Works for me, anyway :D .

Avian, do you take Morks Totem with some Big 'uns as well, or do you feel you have enough dispel to get you through 6 turns?
Avian - April 17, 2007 03:09 PM (GMT)
I tend to only take the Spirit-totem if I want to go very defensive (then it's the Totem and a lvl 1 Night Goblin with the Staff of Stealin) and otherwise I reckon that 5 DD (and -1 PD for the opponent) plus a Scroll is enough against most opponents.

I have to agree. I decided to take your Boss setup and kit and fill out some lists. 2250 with that setup looks pretty handsome. I'm able to get some nice, flexible lists with it without breakin' the bank. :D

i've done pretty well with only one night goblin level 2 shaman with nibbla's 'itty ring and 3 mushrooms, last game i played he managed to kill a chariot, a repeater bolt thrower and make 4 wounds on a dragon (MORK WANTS YA!) ^_^
and of course the all important bsb helped me with some extra dispel dices

I love using my lvl 2 shaman, the only thing I really fear is using the Waagh spell, as I do depend on my warmachines actually having crew....

Im planning on running an Orc Great Shaman (lvl 4) with the ring, a night gobbo shaman (lvl 2) with the horn and a bsb with the totem. Will be nice to do something during the magic phase other than just dispell things. I may even drop the BSB for a third shaman, i dont really know yet.
