I've been doing a little work on my Ork army over the last week. I'm trying to make it look a little more up-to-date.
To start with, I want to replace all the Nobs with converted plastic models, so here's the first:
Ork Boss "Skarfang"
Work In Progress:

This is almost finished. I've bulked-out his muscles, raised his hight with added plasti-card soles on his boots and a GS spacer in his waist. I also bulked-out his jaw to fit the Iron Gob. The "Power Fist" is an Ogre Ironfist.
This one shows his relative height, compared to a normal Ork Boy:

These photos show the "build" completed, with cables added to his Power Fist, some ammo pouches and an Iron Gob.

I still have to drill the Slugga barrel out, but then I'll be ready to start painting him. Hopefilly I'll be posting finished pics by the end of this week.

Snotstaff - March 27, 2006 05:48 PM (GMT)
Well you're greenstuffing talent is certainyly much better then mine! Wow nive start... Can't wait to see it painted! :D
Red Skullz - March 27, 2006 06:18 PM (GMT)
Great converting and GSing there K. Can you show us the old Nobz for comparison?
Btw, wheren`t you gonna show us some archive stuff in da Tavern ;)
talast,
Red
WhiteLionKurgan - March 28, 2006 12:33 PM (GMT)
Hmm. The size-comparison pic has stopped working.
I posted it from home so I don't have the image on my hard drive here.
I'll re-post it and add an extra shot with a metal Nob for scale.

Really, that's just.. awesome. No. That's not the right word. Incredible? Yeah, that's better. How about IN-F*CKING-CREDIBLE? :D
Ridiculously nice work, mate! I just love the overall look of the model - it's so orky!
emoe - March 28, 2006 07:00 PM (GMT)
( just found some mould lines on the shoulderpads & leg)

G'day
Hey kurg's that a really nice conversion! I especially like the work you did on
his arms and the added chin was a must and you've really pulled it off :D .
Can't wait to see it painted! Though its a shame to cover up that nice GS work :P
Well done mate :D
Brog Ironfang - March 28, 2006 09:18 PM (GMT)
I'm amazed by your courage. I'm still to go when it comes to muscles and you did it... really nice work and the thing you do to his lower jaw is also a nice tough
good luck on painting :)

Snotstaff - March 29, 2006 06:56 PM (GMT)
Finnished! That was fast! :)
Anyways I love it! The skin tone is great and so are the clotes. The weapons are rusty enuff but I think the highlight ob the pistol is a little too strong...
Keep it up! :D
Sloory - March 29, 2006 07:25 PM (GMT)
G'day
It looks good, though i can also tell that you have rushed it.
I think that the colours chosen are good but seem to be missing
some highlight stages (eg the skin and the slugga).
Still a great conversion and good looking model :)
sorry to be picky but i know what your capable of, i've seen it! :P
emoe - March 30, 2006 05:00 AM (GMT)
looks good! i like the shoulder pads. but i thhink you should add collor maibe a red/blue backbanner?

I know, you are right.
The problem is that this is how the rest of my 3000 point Ork army is painted and I didn't want him to stand out too much!
The skin is Dark Angel Green, Catachan Green, Goblin Green then Rotting Flesh.
I think I was too heavy with the Goblin Green and that spoils it a bit. <_<
The high-light on the gun doesn't look so strong IRL though.
Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull - March 30, 2006 08:26 AM (GMT)
Well it is a nice looking model, but I have to agree with sloory. And by the way there is nothing wrong with you characters standing out.

I think it looks great. The colour scheme is wicked, especially the brown tones are really good. I have to agree with emoe on that backbanner, should be red of course

PS: what theme is your Ork army based on? SF, FO or something else?

It's (deep breath) very loosely based on a book I found in a second-hand shop about the American Army's training "enemy", OpFor, that in turn is very loosely based on the Russian Army in Afganistan in the 80s.
OpFor used old US vehicles that had extra-bitz added and a paint-job to make them look a little bit like Russian vehicles.
So: desert cammo, red stars and cobbled-together vehicles. :D Sounded Orky to me!

Now the obvious next Q is, how many orcs/orks do you actually own

Um. All of them?
 Not as many as OFTP!
Probably 4000 points of Warhammer and about 3000 points of 40K. If you don't count the "retired" old figures in the cellar.
Red Skullz - March 31, 2006 09:28 AM (GMT)
Oh I was asking for the whole lot :P
Are the 4000 pts Fantasy orcs included pirates or is it pirates?

2000 points of Orc Pirates for now. :P But it will be more when I've finished the two projects on my desk :ph43r: (you've seen both in the Layout forum, so shush!)
Most of my 40K Orks are in need of an update. I've done about 1000 points worth so far.
Sloory - March 31, 2006 10:24 AM (GMT)
G'day
Those are nice tabletop models there kurg's.
I really like your conversions but again its obvious that you
rushed the paintjob ;) But hey! my orks are rushed too and
its scary how the rushed style of yours and mine are similar :P
It must just be somthin about orks vs orcs when it comes to
painting, i mean i just cant seem to give as much to my orks
as i can with my orcs  ...... confusing....

Do you know, I completely agree!
40k is very much a "second" game to me. I want a fully painted army, but I want it NOW and I'm happy for it to be "Table top" standard.
I like Orks, but I  Orcs!

Rushed the paintjob? What the heck, mate? Those models are waaaay better than anything I could ever accomplish. Maybe it's just me being a really crappy painter, but I think these models are some of the nicest - not to say coolest - models I've ever seen.
Sloory - April 1, 2006 07:15 AM (GMT)
G'day
don't get me wrong groshnak, i just mean for "his" standard.
meaning for him they where rushed.
he understood me anyway.
WarbossKurgan - April 3, 2006 01:40 PM (GMT)
Here's another plastic Nob. :)
I forgot to take a WIP shot before I undercoated him though. So you've missed all the GS work. :(
I'm sure you lot can all still see it! ^_^ Arms Bulked out, jaw made heavier, cables added for Power Klaw. ;)
Boss Baddreg:

WIP Mek Boy:

As you can see (I hope) this Mek Boy has a Kustom Force Field Generator, Mek's Tools and a Kustom Slugga.
He's going to form part of my "Warboss' Bodyguard" unit.
The Kustom Force Field Generator is (mainly) a Cadian Autocannon. The bottom half of his apron is a plastic cloak and his Kustom Slugga is a Cadian grenade Launcher!
The apron is my favourite bit though!

Very much a Foot Slogger force!
Bikes are the only vehicles in my current list! (I have loads of Buggies and Trukks but they look... rubbish). If I ever update them I'll post pics :D
Sloory - April 3, 2006 08:28 PM (GMT)
G'day
They're both cool models :D i really love your conversions!
lol and i'd have to say that your spending alot more time on yous
than i am on mine :P i hardly convered any one my orks.
Great job :)

Those models look really cool they are table top quality but I would take more time for the characters.
Well by seeing this models I want to start 40k, but I need to resist because I first need to finish my fantasy army.

Great work as usual WK :D
I`ve said before what I thought about the colour scheme and all so that`s covered, but I did notice that the Big Mek has a tatoo that looks very similar to my avatar.
K have you started "da Kult of Red"? ;)

Is my Warboss's head not enough like it? Needs red paint I guess! :P
