I am researching the (H.M.S.) Prins Albert and the sister ships, of which the (H.M.S.) Prince Leopold was one.
I have plenty of photos of her afloat but to end the chapter on her I would like to have an underwater photo of her as she is now. I live in Australia and I don't plan visiting the UK any time soon otherwise I would dive on her myself, I am qualified up to hard hat. I have tried many sites to find this photo and you guys might be the last chance I have to locate a photo. One of the unusual things is that many sites have the 'Leopold' as having depth charges on the stern but some of the original crew said she didn't. Curious. Regards |

I'm afraid I can't help with the underwater photo. When we dived her the vis wasn't that good. I'll contact the boat skipper who we regularly dive with and see if he has anything. You could try him direct by going through the link at the top of the page to Wight Wreck. It's funny you should mention the depth charges. I didn't see any although I did see something which had some kind of tail plane on it. The vertical even had a rudder. I'm not sure what it was. I think some of the other guys on here saw it too. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. -------------------- Don't people put some crap in this bit !!

Hi Ted
Thanks for the reply and I have sent off an email. These 'objects' on the stern seem to be unusual but the L.S.I. class of ship to which the 'Leopold belonged were Commando and troop carriers. The close ups of the ships do not show anything at all on the stern. Regards |

I posed the same question to the guys on
http://www.warsailors.com/ and they came up with minesweeping paravanes. Can I send a photo to you? Regards |

It looks like your not logged in yet. You were when you registered and then closed the conection. I think you still had one open from before you registered. When you make a post after the smilies at the bottom of the message box there is an area to add an attachment. Ted -------------------- Don't people put some crap in this bit !!

Maybe if someone could describe exactly where they should be we could go and have a look and take some pics. I think that this is probably the only way to solve it.
Won't be until next year though (April onwards) as the viz around this area is notoriously bad and in winter, non existant. Ian. -------------------- "Nobody ever died from lack of sleep" - Lisa McLoughlin 20th Nov 2005
