1.) Create a new document with a white background. The size of mine was 400x400 px.

2.) With the gradient tool set to Difference and with black and white as the colors, go insane. Take out your anger.

3.) Once your done, go to Filter > Artistic > Plastic Wrap. Use these settings:
Hightlight strength: 20
Detail: 12
Smoothness: 6

4.) Duplicate the layer, and go to Filter > Stylize > Extrude. Use these settings:
Type: Blocks
Size: 2 pixels
Depth: 30 random

5.) Once completed, set the layer mode to Lighten. Merge the two layers by hitting Ctrl + E. Duplicate the one layer you have and go to Filter > Blur > Radial. Use these settings:
Amount: 27
Blur Method: Zoom
Quality: Best

6.) Set the layer mode to Screen and merge the layers. I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial. Your final result should have something resembling an explosion/blast. My result:
