I've never thought Martins was a top player. Don't get me wrong, his goals have probably saved us from going down for 2 seasons and scoring 12-15 goals is decent going [17 in the first season possibly ?] but scoring spectacular goals just doesn't make up for missing the bread and butter ones through lack of composure, or his general inability to make the right decisions in team play.

He's got his price which is one of the highest we have, but yesterday was a classic example. Start of the 2nd half, 2-0 up but Stoke putting us under pressure to get back into the game. Great chance to make it 3-0 and game over, missed and 30 seconds or so later its 2-1.

A GOOD striker, who gets the basics right, would have at least forced the keeper to save in that situation. Its not a one off, it just happens to often.

We have 5 or 6 good players at the club, but the rest of them are either hit and miss [Martins] or just not good enough and thats why we are in the shit and its also why we lost the lead yesterday, not really Kinnears substitutions, which were forced on him to an extent by having no options to speak of.

This game yesterday emphasised how much trouble we are in. Thats 2 points dropped at home to Wigan, 2 more at home to Stoke. If we aren't beating other teams at the bottom, and from a 2 goal winning situation yesterday, the alarm bells are getting louder. If we lose away to these teams, then they are all going to be ahead of us.

"When you do that with footballers, like he said about Leeds... I've kept
really quiet, but I'll tell you something, he went down in my
estimations when he said that. We have not resorted to that, but I'll tell
you, you can tell him now, he'll be watching this, we're still fighting for
this title. He's got to go to Middlesbrough and get something. I'll tell
you honestly, I would love it if we beat them, love it."

He's fast and he's capable of the odd piece of brilliance. His allround play is poor though imo. He's 24 now as well, not some young kid with potential. Agree with Leazes.

Martins is hot and cold but he's as good as we've got and we're not going to get any better in January.

yep I agree that with the players at the club, Keegan found the best combination which is those 3 up front.

It might mean alternating between Guittieriez and zoggy for the moment, but Martins seems to me to be much more threatening when he plays left side and used more as an outlet
