I have asked all of the AtlantisIRC members to join #NGoR. Currently, when a new user comes on, he sees noone there, so then he leaves and never returns. This is a vicious cycle ultimately yielding zero IRC usage. I believe that if there are some members to converse with (the AtlantisIRC users), a newcomer will enjoy the time he spent and will return in the future. As time goes on, more and more users will stay thus providing the channel with an exponential amount of newcomers. If newcomer #2 sees one NGoR member and a couple AtlantisIRC users, he might stay, but if newcomer #10 joins, he will see all 9 NGoR members as well as the AtlantisIRC members, and he will most likely come again.
I'm seeing this as a last resort before I make a drastic change to the chat division. Something needs to be done to make use of such a nice resource that has proved to be very enjoyable in the past (all old-timers please vouch for me here). Also, to kind of liven it up and make it interesting, I'm welcoming all suggestions for channel services. Possible suggestions are a RS trivia bot, the mafia game thing some people know about, or maybe random scripts such as 8ball, timebomb, etc. I can set up a bot that posts everytime there is an update to the news section of the forum. I can set up a bot to PM you every time you receive a a PM or a topic subscription reply. I can also set it up to post every new topic, it can be in the format of "Suggestion: Staff List - http://forums.nationalguardofrunescape.com...showtopic=10002 (Sakkath)" (topic title, link, and author). I can do pretty much anything you ask me to do, I can post RS news updates, I can get a hiscores bot, I can set up a bot that will calculate how many of something you need for a next level (just tell it your username, or you can store it with the bot and it will always know your username, tell it the skill, your desired level, and desired item, for instance "black_skies4, fletching, 80, yew long") or it can have maybe a menu like:
Just PLEASE post ALL suggestions, ANYTHING AT ALL, and I will try my hardest to do anything it takes to reinstate the chat division as a strong leg in the NGoR community. EDIT: Pinned for the time being because this is very important and I want all members to get an opportunity to see this so we can get a stronger user base in the channel and so all users get to give their input on possible additions to the channel. Big thanks to Jimmy4848 for trying to help revive the IRC channel! Because he took the initiative to help me out, his efforts are rewarded with chat mod! Congratz to the first new chat mod in a long long time! He made me realize we have to split up the 'chat mod' group. I say 'Chat mod/admin' should stay the way it originally was and we make a separate group for 'ClanChat Mod.' The following was added after I added in a below post, but I just want to put it in both locations so people will take notice if they are reading the initial post, or the last post. I am offering chat mod to anyone who can recruit at least a couple solid regulars and prove themselves to be mature enough to handle it. By all means consider it a competition, if that's what it takes. Don't think you can abuse your mod and get away with it though, I will be quick to demote you, regardless of how many users you have gotten for us. Everyone please feel free to take me up on my offer. With chat mod, you can kick and ban users out of the channel, as well as make use of many other channel moderation features. You will also be granted '#NGoR Mod' status on the forums and the community will recognize you as someone who has earned a position in the NG staff This post has been edited by Sakkath on Apr 23 2009, 08:32 AM -------------------- Ŝặқķậŧĥ

Sakkath: I enjoy all you do for us here at NGoR, providing us with the IRC server for use by RuneScape, and your continued support on funding for the website all of us at RuneScape gather through access of.
As for IRC, I will do my best to stop by now and then to check on the progress of it, but I lag when I use anything apart from forum and SwiftKit. I have to shut these down simply to view YouTube or MySpace, when I check my inbox and upload new videos. But, I enjoy seeing you giving the IRC users a chance to suggest options for what they seek in a channel for RuneScape, on your IRC server. Keep up the good work. Also, I am giving other options as well, such as now ShoutBox is accessed directly from a forum page, that also gives instant information and disclaimer of the chat option, along with related links to both your IRC server, and the chat feature of RuneScape itself. Keep me updated on how things go. And If you have a way to link users directly to the #NGoR channel on your IRC server, that would be great. For some odd reason, I can no longer access the link on website for ( http://www.NationalGuardOfRunescape.com/chat ). And I'm not sure why none of the other related links work either, for other various pages of our website. -------------------- ~ Dominion ®

I advise all to listen to Sakkath with the NGOR IRC when it used to be active it was awesome... great way to communicate with fellow members outside of RS without having to worry about getting banned for sneezing..

Whenever I try to use it most of the time, it won't connect me all the way through for some reason. I had it working on my old comp.

Ive been waiting for this, it will hopefully eliminate some of the less mature people that hang out in Catherby_9 witch has discouraged some people from staying with us thinking the same people from the forums are the same from the chat

Dominion, you should always use relative links, and not absolute links. I fixed the chat one but I was unaware any others used absolute links. (absolute being http://domain.tld/path/to/file.html and relative being /path/to/file). With a relative link, you should also use relative paths. i.e. if something is in the same folder, use ./image/blah.jpg, as opposed to /images/blah.jpg. Right now the entire site is in a directory named 'mfdclanrs' so if you wanted to use an absolute path, it would really be /mfdclanrs/images/blah.jpg. If you are in a chat directory, say working on index.php, do this "../images/blah.jpg." Relative paths allow the site to be moved around, placed in and out of a directory, etc. without breaking anything.
If you need help, just let me know which ones are not working. The absolute links would normally work, but due to the site's host blocking port 80, the default webserver port, I have to use a stupid redirect that for some reason doesn't like accepting /blah (i.e. nationalguardofrunescape.com/blah). I have to work on it. I also have to get a normal server again, which I intend on doing once this speeding ticket is paid off. Once I have that, things will be great again And thanks a lot for the continued support with EVERYTHING I say campie The Dark Within, I see you connect to the SwiftIRC channel a lot. This is not the official IRC home of NGoR. If you, or anyone, needs help setting up SwiftKit for use with our private server, feel free to send me a message. Send all IRC related messages to me. Soon I will be posting an updated guide on how to join us on IRC through SwiftKit. The mIRC guide probably should still work seeing as mIRC hasn't really changed at all. Gates, I recruited Jimmy4848 last night and he's helping to populate the channel, he already recruited another member. Hopefully more people like him show some initiative to help, perhaps yourself, and we can have a once-again popular IRC channel! Sakkath: I know you are usually busy, but I have been looking for the past hour trying to find a guide on how to join the IRC chat, even though I already know how to, I think it would be a good idea to Pin a topic on how log onto it correctly from all IRC chat supports; Swiftkit, Nonane, Acid, etc. If you want me too i saved our conversation from last night and i can type it up on here easily.
Most of the people that play runescape, or use internet have no or little idea about what IRC is so I think it would be a good idea to get the IRC back up and running -------------------- Been in Catherby 9 since 2005

There is an old SwiftSwitch guide posted, but things are very different now. I will post a new one very soon, perhaps after work tonight.
The mIRC one should still apply seeing as mIRC has hardly changed. -------------------- Ŝặқķậŧĥ
