That looks fantastic..
Did you buy this as it is or have you sent this away to have all the work under taken? With it being so light that 16v is really going to grip and go.. :-) Look forward to seeing this in attendance at future shows!! |

NICE choice!!!
Always wondered what happened to this after it was up for sale a year or 2 ago. Whats the deal with it? The ads were always pretty brief, does the engine run etc? |

Bought it as is, will need a fair bit of work to get it all ready for the road and mot'able but yep with sub 650-700 kilos and 123bhp i should be looking at 200 bhp per tonne which will be more than fun. grip levels will be interesting to find out, but i wont be giving the car too much beans as its got a chocolate gearbox |

Reeto fella, yeh i nearly bought it when it was for sale last year, it required eitehr a stack system for clocks and a custom map but the car ran and drove. Apparently the throttle cable was catching off the steering arms when the wheels were straight meaning you couldnt get full throttle but the little olop still flew. Will be taking the suspension apart when it arrives on my drive as i need to see which modifications we need to do to the lupo struts, we may even consider cutting out the bulhead where the polo steering arms mount up to and using a mk1 golf steering rack instead. I may even be able to squeeze a servo but ill cross that bridge when i come to it. The ads were brief but the last two previous owners were more than willing to talk about the car in detail if people actually took the time to phone them. The main reason the original owner didnt go through with the build is he was running out of funds for his golf mk1 campaign restoration project. |

This is way too rude! 200 BHP / Ton? Brown trouser moments comes to mind!
Welcome to the club mate, loving the car - i also wondered what happened to this one, real good project you've got there. |

Init, once it had sold on ebay i thought it was gone forever but then found out a chap on clubpolo bought it and was watching its progress intently ever since, because as soon as i set eyes on it the first time i knew i had to have it |

Aye i think the turtle heads will be coming out to play mwahahahaha, and thats just standard power figures without guesstimating what the bike carbs will bring to the equation. i think i will just get it running on standalone management on standard injection gear and then take a trip to bogg bros when ive got used to the power and handling of the wee car and thanks for the welcome, i joined a day after you but i was present on the forums birthday, which is incidentally charlies birthday too and mk1 polos do rawk my sawks ps. congrats on the award at bvf, well deserved, loved the lil derby vw ad in the boot, made me chuckle |

Welcome chap :),
Lovely little polo you have their, ps: there was a chap on the lupo forums who strapped an eaton to his and he was running about 185bhp without anything done to the internals i think :) :) :) If you can find one the 6 speed box from a lupo sport is meant to be stronger |

It was indeed the AW Tracksport prepped jobbie, cheers mate, i reckon handling should be on par with my mk1 golf gti, the handling of my old g40 left little to be desired so i went for a mk1 golf (3 infact ) before finding my way back to a polo, just glad this one has wishbones, means itll be as much if not more fun than the golf, and ten bazillion times cooler cos mk1s are rude |

cheers dude, nice one for the heads up, will check it out, not sure about the fitment of the eaton with space limitations, the charger prob wouldnt be a problem as it would be at the back but the intercooler placement would prove tricky to sit well, get sufficient airflow and not ruin the lines of the car id ideally like to have a rod change box for some proper abuse but i suppose when i merk this one ill try and get hold of a 6 speeder |

Seeing your golf go up in flames scared me well and truly off bike carbs for good, so it's 55bhp or nothing! Cheers for the comments about the derby, was well chuffed with the result. Let's see some more pics of the silver beasty then mate... |

nah id still go for it mate, the carbs were directly over the exhaust manifold on the big block 8v engines so it was going to be detrimental for performance with the heat soak issue so it was probably an accident waiting to happen.
it was only a week before my mate was telling me to fit a fuel return line to my loop! got a couple of pics on my phone from when i went to view it, engine/box are out the car and its fully stripped, perfect for me as ill be sorting it for paint as soon as i get it :) (Posted Image) (Posted Image) (Posted Image) (Posted Image) (Posted Image) (Posted Image) |
