Welcome and Wow!
Where did you find this?
It looks to be in really good condition and a very nice colour.
All you need to do is get the wheels painted in the original colour and away you go! :D
cenkay - March 12, 2012 10:18 PM (GMT)
  lovely
This is the genuine 6000 miles one isnt it?
s_wookey - March 12, 2012 10:58 PM (GMT)
Thank you it means a lot. Yes that what I thought, thank you.
Yes it has 6000 miles I wernt to sure about it but history backs it up and you can tell its true by the condition :)

And I found it on classics and cars or something I brought it of a guy in Bournemouth, I was a bit worried putting the 150+ miles straight on it back to Colchester but I couldn't have asked for a better drive :)
ross_m - March 12, 2012 11:04 PM (GMT)
Thats very nice! It looks like the seats of a 6k mile car anyway.
These seem to be popular first cars now even though they are extremely hard to find
ross_m - March 12, 2012 11:05 PM (GMT)
Oh and did you get my pm about the bumpers?
cenkay - March 12, 2012 11:07 PM (GMT)
This is also Rich oakly's old polo, i think he bought it from the original owner.. he knows quite a bit about it, you should pm him :)

Beautiful!
Even though I'm going 'all out' with my Polo project, I'm now begining to think that you can't beat a totally standard MK1 like this (and a few others on here)! B) I'm probably getting old...! :ph43r:
Wish I'd snapped up a mint example of a MK1 before the prices started getting silly! :(
Keep us posted on any progress dude......and welcome! :D
Cheers,
Chris.

Thank you and yes I will do and I will keep uploading my progress. Thank you all for your interest. A lot of you have said it looks nice completely original, I had thoughts of lowering it and putting ATS's or schmidts on it but keeping everything else standard ? What do you all think. Thanks Sam.
CJ Dubs - March 13, 2012 01:44 PM (GMT)
Each to their own Sam. You get people like me who come along and 'ruin' a fair conditioned MK1.........but in my opinion it all depends on the base car. If it's nice and original with good bodywork then there's no way I'd now start ripping it apart or changing anything! :ph43r: However, if your base car is a bit of a heap which needs a lot of welding, bodywork & interior then I really don't see any wrong in 'tweaking' it a bit! ;)
If I had yours then I would be taking it back to as if it left the factory (not that it's far from there as it is)! B)
Cheers,
Chris.

Welcome matey.
I like it a lot. Even the black wheels look good.
I'd be tempted to only lower it and stick on some well thought out wheels and tyre combo. But leave the rest totally standard.
Then just enjoy polishing and cleaning every last thing on it.
How's she look under the bonnet?

This is what i'd do too :D after all, you do have the lowest mileage mk1 polo in the uk most probably B)

Awesome car mate, I agree with Borednow, a little lowering and nice wheels, it can always be put back to stock if you wish B)

It's worth saving for a decent kit mate. Don't be tempted by the cheap ones on e-bay. The ride is horrible in my opinion. The only thing with cheap ones is to decide the height but that will change dependant on each kit any way.
Think long and hard about wheels too. Don't rush into anything ( I do and by now I could have afforded a mint set of really rare wheels  ) would be my advice.
Decide what you really want and then look around for tyre inspiration too. The width and profile of tyres makes all the difference and can turn a good set of wheels into a jaw droppingly brilliant look on a car.
Good luck ;)

That looks amazing. 6000 miles that is nothing, it must be the lowest in the uk. I'd agree with the drop and wheels. Just polish and enjoy it. Can't wait to see this at the shows.
s_wookey - March 30, 2012 05:22 PM (GMT)
thanks, i stared to drop it today and having a bit of trouble with getting a socket to fit the front wheel hub, but should all be done by tomorrow, will keep it posted. thanks a lot

That sure is low mate. Your back will be killing you soon.
How goes the search for rims?
Make sure you get detailing it too.
;)
Lovejoy - April 27, 2012 09:27 AM (GMT)
Wow thats low at the back, can u raise it up a notch? I think it'd look better. Or you could lower the front another 10mm with lowering spring caps. Looking cool tho mate

Has a few Cushions are in order I think :L. Ermm yes I have found a dream set which I am saving up for but I might just get a half decent set for the minute. Especially as I have to pay out crazy amounts for insurance :@.
Oh yes definitely, I will have a day of detailing soon, have you got any tips on products I could use? Thanks Sam

Yea I know what you mean, I have wound the rears down all the way and the front I still have a lot higher. I was going to level her or rake her when I have my new wheels on. Thanks, it means a lot.
Also can anyone recommend any shows to me ? Thanks
s_wookey - April 29, 2012 09:27 AM (GMT)

borednow - April 29, 2012 02:35 PM (GMT)
Start with a 3 stage paint cleaner, polish and wax by maguires and available from halfords or online.
Check out detailing world for more ideas and tips.

but don't go shopping for detailing products after you've had a few, it can get VERY expensive!! :o
borednow - April 29, 2012 08:18 PM (GMT)
Without a doubt mate :D.
Couldn't decide between Poorboys and Mcguires. Ended up getting a full selection of each. Ought.

Hi everyone, i have had a few problems lately with the carb, and im sure i need a new one. can anyone tell me where i can get one or can anyone give me information on these type of carburetors. i have been told to put on bike carbs but i think it would ruin mine.
series2 - June 20, 2012 05:52 PM (GMT)
dude will check in garage, i might have a carb i will not need
euro-derby - June 20, 2012 07:58 PM (GMT)
Have you lost the idling on your carb? There's a common fault where they will only idle with the choke out and generally run rough.
Unfortunately the Solex 31 PIC carbs are prone to blocked jets and generally bad running. Love the car though, although the lows will soon take their toll on the body with the state of the uk roads,

Yes that's what's happened, so if I clean the jets do you reckon it would solve it ?
Thanks a lot mate, and yes I know I might raise her for the na weather and just leave her low for the shows and nice days

I'd agree, i had similar problem a few months ago, to unblock them you could get compressed air on them while the engines running, or if you cant do that (like i couldnt) take the air filter housing off and with your hand block the carb to suffocate the engine while its running continuously to get the crap out your jets, thats what i done and its fine now
