Wig: Finished until I can add in (weft) more hair for extra thickness

Bodysuit: Planning
The fabric has been bought but I'm thinking of getting swimming suit lining and bra cups.
Need to modify the pattern/combine patterns.
Not sure how to go about the aqua-colored parts. Can't decide on an armor (craft foam) or fabric.

Shoes: Shoes bought and need to be re-colored

Ring: Will either try to make or borrow a ring.

Wig: Finished -going to try and thicken it up

Before any work

Changing the part
Putting in bangs isn't as simple as combing the hair over. Wigs are plastic and meant to stay in the style they are when you buy them. I used a comb to hold the hair in place where I wanted it to stay and use a blow dryer on low heat. If you do this remember that wigs are plastic and can melt if they get too hot.

Thickening up the wig
I plan on adding some thickness to the wig. You can see how the wig cap (that the wig is sewn to) is showing through. user posted image

You'll notice a color difference starting below here. I had to change the color because the previous color was too purple for my tastes.

QUOTE

You can try shortening the front part that juts out and lengthening the back portion by the same amount.
That's how it is on the other bodysuit pattern they have on their site.

QUOTE

Crookedascent has exactly the right idea. Take note of where the crotch for your particular size ends. Draw a horizontal line that is perpendicular to the vertical arrows already on the pattern. Make sure your new (smaller) front crotch line ends here. There will be a few extras by putting this pattern on the fold, (1) you'll have excess at the waist front and (2) a tiny crotch extension in the front, and excess you're not sure what to to with. Here is what you do with these items:

Excess Waist Fabric: Whatever you end up having to add to the front to get the pattern on the fold, subtract it from the back waist. Make sure you blend your lines together (curved rulers are good for this).

Rogue Crotch Extension from the front: Add whatever you've eliminated from the front to the back. This will make your back crotch extension longer than what you're used to, but once it all gets sewn together, things will make sense.

You may also want to check out CosplayLab's interview with SarcasmHime, as she discusses how she makes a "seamless" bodysuit: http://www.cosplaylab.com/spotlight/200608.asp

By making these modifications, you will end up with a bodysuit that only has seams at the shoulders, back, and inseam. Alternatively, if you'd like to save yourself some trouble, and don't mind a side and back seam, check out Kwik Sew 2722. It has a keyhole, but if this is something you don't want, just don't cut out the hole (keep in mind, you'll have to add a zipper so you can get into the bodysuit).

Hope this helps!

Putting a weft into a wig really isn't hard to do. You sew it onto the wig inbetween the existing ones.

http://www.amphigory.com/femme_vs_faux.html

Scroll down to where the wigs are turned inside out. You can see how far apart each weft is. What'd you do to sew in the weft is part the hair and sew the weft onto the wider strips of fabric that are going down the wig.

QUOTE

Ive never ordered curled extensions before, but I can imagine that making wefts out of them is going to be even more of a (excuse my language here) bitch than it is with straight wefts.
If Amphigory offered longer pre-wefted hair, I would suggest those because making wefts, if you've never done it before, can be enough to drive a person insane. Making them with the Petting Zoo tutorial is good if you if you dont have a lot of experience with wig hair, but I prefer making my wefts with a sewing machine. They tend to last longer, as with the Petting zoo tutorial, the caulk can sometimes crack or tear after you have sewn it into your wig.
ON that note, once you have the weft -made-, putting it in your wig is pretty easy. You just part the hair along an existing weft where you plan on putting it, and sew the new weft to the existing one. This is where I really prefer sewn wefts, as the caulk can be quite a pain to get a needle through.
Here is a tutorial for Sewn wefts. http://www.doctoredlocks.com/catalog/home.php?cat=410
I dont think they are any more difficult to make than caulk wefts, but Ive worked with both quite a bit.
I hope this wasnt -too- long winded and confusing. x__x

QUOTE

What I did when I was sewing a body suit was buy a figure skating pattern that came with arms included in the pattern and drafted my own leg pattern. From there I made up this tutorial http://ladythesta.deviantart.com/art/Lycra...orial-134664983 for gloves that tucked under the sleeves and cut up an old sock for a pattern on making footies that tucked under the legs. When the arms and legs aren't hemmed you can't tell they're separate pieces unless you really look.

I fact, it was this pattern that I used. http://www.sewingpatterns.com/subpage.php?...0green%20pepper and just made the body piece one piece. There's still a seam down the back, but I didn't mind for what I was using it for.

Sorry. Didn't mean to write a book for ya. ^^'''' Hope it helps!

QUOTE

It's very possible to alter the patterns for your needs but it definitely depends on your level of skill.

My favorite pattern for bodysuits is Kwik-Sew 3052. For a full bodysuit you're going to need a zipper to get into it no matter how you look at it and the most feasible place for the zipper considering the sleeves and still be able to get into it is in the back. Just make sure you use an invisible zipper and having a seam down the back isn't a big deal.

You can easily get rid of the seam in the front by instead of cutting two pieces, just cut the piece on the edge of the folded fabric so that it's one big piece. Does that make any sense?

You can add the feet and the gloves by taping paper or (what I prefer to use to make my own patterns) interfacing and extending the pattern to include feet and gloves. A lot of people are intimidated by stretchy fabric but as long as you use a zig-zag stitch (I know that's not the correct terminology) you should be fine and it's so easy to take in if it's too big and since it's stretchy I never have a problem with the fit.

Sewing Lycra:

http://www.ehow.com/how_5640870_sew-lycra-...al-machine.html
http://www.ehow.com/how_2272323_sew-lycra.html
For sewing nylon-Lycra knits, use a 70/10 SUK ballpoint needle; for all other Lycra-blend knits, a 75/11 HS stretch needle is appropriate.

Use a ballpoint needle to sew Lycra and nylon blends or a stretch-type needle for sewing other kinds of Lycra fabrics.

The sky blue colored sharpies are more of a periwinkle color instead of the color on the cap.

This makes me upset.

Thought I'd give a little update on this costume:

The wig is finished until I can add in (weft) more hair. I would like the wig to be thicker.

I need to work on the pattern for the bodysuit. Actually, I need to buy a second pattern and combine them. I also need swimsuit lining.
I also need to figure out how I'll do the aqua-colored parts. Craft Foam for an armor look or fabric. Unfortunately, if I go with fabric Hancock's doesn't carry swimsuit lycra in the correct color.

I need to paint the shoes. I can't go with spraypainting since there is no spraypaint in the color I need so I'll either go with nail polish or fabric paints.

Thank you. I'll be happy with it even if I can't add more hair into the wig to make it thicker.
