I'm taking a page from Feral's book (no pun indended, m'dear) from some of those other sites we've been on, and creating a thread just for comments, be they good, bad, or just ugly. (See? I'm dating myself...)

So, without further ado.... Comment away!!

Enjoyed your latest Darksong. So the king has a truth stone. Makes sense given the shifting loyalties of the Drow. Poor Lothir, left in the corner like a little boy while the adults plot.

Posted by: Feral Female Dec 21 2011, 03:32 AM
Boy, I have to agree with Ser Raven on how frustrated Lothir must be right now! Nicely done entry, Ducks!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Dec 21 2011, 05:37 PM
Lol, thanks! It seems to be a recurring problem for him- just not aggressive enough, maybe. Or too worried about slipping up and revealing his real feelings to ever step up.... Tension can make a person somewhat hesitant, eh?

Posted by: Feral Female Dec 30 2011, 04:52 AM
Very enjoyable new installment of Darksong, Ducks! The info about the various gods was quite interesting! Seems our young Drow neatly avoided a bullet there.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Dec 30 2011, 03:54 PM
Hee-hee! Yeah, he seem to be getting rather good at "diplomacy"..... ymwink.gif Then again, that comes with the territory for bards. guitar.gif Question IS, how far will he have to go?

Posted by: Gorvar Dec 30 2011, 04:43 PM
I know a halfling who can lend a hand with his quick tongue ;D

Excellent chapter there, we seem to forget two major gods are playing chess with Lothir's soul here.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Dec 30 2011, 05:56 PM
Ah, It seems someone remembers the sava game from Lady Penitant!!

Posted by: Feral Female Jan 13 2012, 03:39 AM
A hearty 'well done' on that last issue, Ducks! I wish I could guess on the books, but I`ve never played D & D. =(

Posted by: Ravenswald Jan 13 2012, 05:15 AM
I have been hungering for a new Darksong. More please. As to your question and because I could never disappoint a lady or a challenge unanswered my research has come up with the following:

Manual of Puissant Skill at Arms and the Tome of Bodily Health are/were actual D&D books that could be found in a dungeon or library in a game with advantages to fighters and anyone respectively.

While Arador the Tormentor is a character in D&D (if its the same guy) I couldn't find his journal as an actual printed book.

I couldn't find any thing on the dwarven tome Axe and Shield- Treatise on Tactics of War.

Posted by: Gorvar Jan 13 2012, 09:35 AM
I wish i could get into D&D....

Anyway god chapter there dudette, though i'm afraid the inside joke was to deep for me.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 13 2012, 04:10 PM
Ding ding! Ravens, you win.... a COOKIE!! Actually, only the first two you mentioned were actual books in the game. The Journal of Arador was a title I came up with myself, as was the "author". I'm not familiar with any actual character by that name, but I'm mostly a Forgotten Realms gal, so he could have been from Greyhawk ,or Eberron, or Spelljammer, or Dark Sun, or Ravenloft, or...... It just sounded like something a drow library would have. And the dwarven book was my own invention as well. I've come up with quite a few literary and musical works for this world, as well as inns, taverns, ship names, and lots of other stuff for added depth. In fact, we'll be seeing some of those songs later on. But very good research, compadre! I'm guessing you have the four volume set of Encyclopedia Magica? Or perhaps the Tome of Magic? Both of those books were listed in several sources on maigc items and such.

Gorvar- if you're interested, there are two good sites with on-line posting RP- both Candlekeep and Chosen of Eilistraee have RP forums. Both have free-play and structured campaigns (Candlekeep is mostly quiet right now, but I'm sure we can get it jumping again....), and Candlekeep has an "inn" for PC's to meet, chat, and swap tales of past adventures while they wine and dine. Chosen has a couple of "inn" threads, too.
( and )

I'll look into it tommorow thanks!

Posted by: Feral Female Jan 18 2012, 03:26 AM
Very enjoyable issue there, Ducks! I really like the relationship between those two gentlemen.

Posted by: Gorvar Jan 18 2012, 08:12 AM
Loved it as always. Bit short sadly, but that's all really.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 19 2012, 05:07 PM
Short? Odd, it was longer than the previous part.... Don't worry, I'll have more up soon. And yes, it looks like he may have found a mentor of sorts. Ah, but the best part is coming up soon!! We'll see what transpires with his little private "war".....

Posted by: Ravenswald Jan 27 2012, 04:10 AM
Well I'm glad to see your hero is showing such common sense and practicality. So many heroes in stories are too stubborn to do the most obvious and logical thing to avoid disaster. Glad to see yours is more realistic. Well done.

Posted by: Feral Female Jan 27 2012, 04:44 AM
Ser Raven said it all! Well done, Ducks!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 27 2012, 03:59 PM
Thanks! It just seemed like such an obvious thing to do, really. If you think someone might come snooping around looking for something "illegal", you stash it! (Been through enough inspections where I had to move or get rid of stuff to pass, so I know whereof I speak here. And no, not for anything illegal, just stuff that might be considered "violations" which can apparently include even stupid things like burning candles......)

Another good episode of Darksong. Its a wonder the Drow are a threat to anyone with all their petty hatreds and backstabbing and spying. Then again it probably explains why so many go off to attack others. Safer than being at home!

Posted by: Feral Female Feb 8 2012, 06:58 AM
Well done issue of Darksong, Ducks! Ser Raven said it best!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 8 2012, 05:41 PM
Um, Ravens, doesn't that technically make them a threat to EVERYONE?! just an observation. But I get ya! Yeah, I enjoyed this little bit- thought I'd toss in something a little "off-beat" here. And show just how deviant some folks can be, especially in a city with no rules. ("Don't get caught" doesn't actually count as a ruel, IMO....) Well, unless you consider doing something not approved of by a vindictive spider-demon goddess as against the "rules". that is.... icon_twisted.gif

Posted by: Ravenswald Feb 9 2012, 06:38 PM
Absolutely. If they weren't so consumed with one upping each other they probably could have swept over the world like the Mongols (not sure which D&D world you've set this in or if its your own). They have all the advantages of the other elves plus no morals, much higher birth rate, no morals, militarily advanced, no morals, magically enhanced, no morals, and um did I mentioon no morals? All they really lack is unity and a united cause that will keep them together for more than a few seconds before plotting their leaders downfall and their own personal aggrandisment. You've captured all of that quite well.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 10 2012, 05:58 PM
I take that as high raise indeed, Ravens! And in case I have not already stated it- could have sworn I did- yes, this is my own world. It is (loosely) based on ideas from several of the "canon"/"official" D&D settings- notably Forgotten Realms (the BEST D&D world EVER!!! For those who haven't yet, check out some of the FR tales by Ed Greenwood{the creator}, Elaine Cunningham{expert on all things elfy}, and R.A. Salvatore{drow mogul}) as well as Greyhawk, Eberron(D&D/steam-punk/Indiana Jones vibes!!), Spelljammer, and even the Council of Wyrms settings. I threw in a bit of Ravenloft and Dark Sun bits too, just for the fun of it. But the world itself and the geography, history, and people are all my own.

Posted by: Ravenswald Feb 10 2012, 07:07 PM
I did think it was your own world but yes I have detected a lot of Forgotten Realms. I agree that yes that was the best of the created realms (and this from a man who started with the very first D&D series way before AD&D was even a twinkle of the eye). Salvatore was definitely the best in articulating the Drow culture well that is next to your good self. Keep up the great work.

Posted by: Gorvar Feb 11 2012, 07:42 AM
Same, keep up the good work!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 14 2012, 05:06 PM
Wow, Ravens- you really ARE old school! Sadly, I came to the game a bit later- just a couple of years before 3rd ed (around 1997-98, FYI). Have loved it from the beginning. I still have all my old 2nd ed books, and pdf's of those I never managed to buy. And enough 3rd ed stuff to keep me going until the nonsense that is 4th gets swept under the rug. (I just pretend it never happened....) Thanks for that high praise, guys. If this keeps up. my ego might not fit through the door.... Yes, there is a bit of the FR in here- rightly so, since it was one of the two worlds that first got me into the game and the fantasy gaming genre- the other being Dragonlance (got tired of constant dragon wars, though...)

I blended some of my fave elements from BOTH worlds for my elves, and for my drow in particular. In point- the "Dark Banishing" I use is similar to the ritual used in Krynn that determines if a particular elf is a "dark elf" (a la Dalamar), except in this case, it is literal, much like Faerun's Descent. Add in some fun bits of everything from Mystara(gods, that is old school) and Greyhawk to Eberron and Ravenloft, and of course extensive reading of both Slvatore's and Cunningham's drow lore (I LOVE Liriel Beanre!) and my own piraty twist- an viola! The history and cultures of the various races and kingdoms are the most fun to create, IMHO. Gods and cosmology are fun to play with, too! Okay, yes, I'm a total game-geek....

Posted by: Ravenswald Feb 16 2012, 07:53 PM
This is the box set of the original D&D I have. Actually fourth edition 1975. My second character was a wizard. 4 hit points and a single sleep spell and a dagger. I ended up 6 years later with this character at 22nd level. We played long campaigns back then. Hated psionics, silly idea. I think the game definitly needed a revamp and AD&D was definitely a good idea. Lost contact with it after University in the 80s so don't really know the later versions of the rules.

I think you've combined it all very nicely. well done

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 22 2012, 05:21 PM
@ Ravens- Well, by 4th ed, i was of course referring to the "official" editions /rules cahnges of the game. Technically, it all started with just three little booklets in 74, which most gamers now call "0 edition". The 4th ed I'm referring to is the current incarnation of D&D, with rumors circulating that a 5th edition is coming out later this year- apparently, a lot of people were not happy with the rules as they stand now, nor with a great deal of lore changes that occured along with it.

I never hated psionics, I just don't use it, as I (still) don't have much material on it- it was mostly for Dark sun, which never really had much written on it- so I just mostly use other setting lore and rules. Ah, you've brought back some great memories for me with my early PC's. My first was an elf wizard who lasted all of ten minutes- killed a pair of orcs, then promptly fell prey to a carnivorous squirrel! Darn, I HATE when that happens.... She had 4 HP to start(end). But most of my other PC's are still alive and kicking. only one had any real mishaps- well, aside from our favorite young bard here. One of my early PC's went through White Plume Mountain with few problems (well, she almost lost a leg, but managed to get through it) but later eneded up stuck on the ghost ship in Phantom's Wake. She may still be there.... And then there's Morg. Yes, I occasionally play Lothir's sister, when I'm feeling evil and nasty. But she's so much fun!! Mostly because I get to kill, maim, or rob random NPC's for no reason, and it's entirely in character for her. icon_twisted.gif

Also, good news! i finally have some new stuff up for DS, and also for Golden Flame. I would have posted yesteday, but the library net went down before I could log on here. so, get ready to enjoy!

Posted by: Feral Female Feb 23 2012, 03:46 PM
Nice to see a new issue of the Cat back! Well done as always my dear.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 23 2012, 05:29 PM
Well, that was actually the second story of the thread, "Children of the Golden Flame". "Night of the Black Cat" is a seperate story, I had originally just decided to lump all my stories into one thread, but that was before the two dark-elf ones got so darned long! Eventually, I WILL get around to putting Black Cat in its own thread, so that I can keep them in their own areas. That one may get a sequel, eventually, since I left the ending open for future "tails" about the young Delagato lass.

Posted by: Ravenswald Feb 23 2012, 06:15 PM
Nice to see Lothir getting tough. Chivalry and courtesy aren't going to get him where he wants to go in this town. Or protect him.

My first character lasted 10 minutes, a fighter who took two arrows in our first encounter against footpads. For 11 year old I was quite crestfallen after all my work to roll up the character. I had to wait u ntil the following week to play again and I made certain my Wizard stayed in the centre of the party and kept very low until I understood the rules and to never trust my elders who happily put us young ones in the dangerous situations first.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 23 2012, 07:09 PM
LOL!! Yeah, I was in high school the first time I played. It was a quickie session at lunch one day with a guy I was sort of frieds with, just to show me how it worked. It was the last time I played for another three years. When I finally got in on a real game, I was hooked! My second PC- the one who may/may not still be off sailing the seas on the ghost ship (we never went any further than that) was much smarter about getting into danger, though in all fairness, I had never even considered the possibility of carnivorous squirrels in that first encounter. I saw it and trhew a dagger, thinking "lunch". Evidently the squirrel was thinking the same thing.... Who knew?

I have played DM for most of our games over the years, whish is one reason why this world of mine has gotten such a thorough treatment detail-wise. I run the games with the other players supplying most of the entertainment, though I occasionally pull out one of my old characters for a fun cameo or as a helper. Lothir himself started as a plot-hook to bring Morg into a game, and has since turned into one of my fave characters to run or play. And he shows up in the DARNDEST places! Like being a passenger on the ship the party was on during a recent Holiday adventure. (Rescuing my world's version of Santa from a wizard who took over his workshop!) He tagged along to help the group get the mysterious crate to its owner. (Someone had stolen his bag and the harness for his reindeer during the chaos of the wizard's take-over). Must be because he can't stay out of trouble....

Posted by: Ravenswald Feb 24 2012, 02:17 PM
I too used to bring my wiizard back into the game when I became a DM as a sort of DR Who character. I'd have the Wizard Council (sort of similar to the Time Lords) reduce my wizard, Gamildring back to 8th level and then he would tag along with parties to work himslef back up to 22nd. Did this all through my High School and Universiy days. He was the most trusting soul which caused problems for the parties who he was with when he trusted the wrong person and they ahd to get him out of the fix. I think I've mentioned elsewhere that Lord ravenwood, and his alter egos are all charcaters that I created from other games: Vampire the Masquerade, Call of Chthulu and SPI's Universe.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 24 2012, 03:31 PM
Ah, Masquerade. That world was fun to play in, at least until our GM (I mentioned him before) decided to try for a TPK just because. He had the completely wrong attitude for a GM- it's not about killing off the PC's, it's about challenging them in ways that MIGHT get them killed. I guess he didn't get the distinction, or he chose to ignore it. To this day, I still have fond memories about my Fianna werewolf lass. I even tried to cultivate an Irish brogue to play her. (though a couple of players said it sounded more like a Cockney British accent.... I was sort of channeling Eliza Doolittle, lol!)

I've played a little of Spycraft in recent years, and some Star Wars (as a Twi'lek rogue/Jedi a la KotOR), but mostly, it's always been D&D for me. mutants and Masterminds was sort of fun- I made a female mutant who was sort of a cross between Silver Sable and Black Cat (I LOVE her as a gaming PC! The perfect rogue!) My Spycraft PC was sort of similar, but she ended up getting herself slightly preggers, and later was thrown through a sixth story window. (Which caused her to miscarry, but.... Ouch.) We didn't play it for long, unfortunately.

Posted by: Ravenswald Feb 24 2012, 06:43 PM
Only slightly pregnant? Funny how real life problems can sometime creep into RPG. In one series with my space pirate character I married and then some how got divorced with her taking nearly everything bar my space ship and she tried to take that as well. In Masquerade I created a childe who betrayed me and tried to take my blood through diablerie. I've played many rpgs (including early vers of Star Wars and M&M) but VTM was my favourite in my senior years while D&D was definitely what we played at school and university. I don't have the group who plays that now a days but when you have things like Skyrim or VTMB it fills that void.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 28 2012, 05:02 PM
Agreed. Yeah, that was actually a pretty funny game session. We were playing a spycraft campaign that was based on a graphic novel (forgot the name, but it's got a trio of female protagonists) and we were after this ancient shield which was supposed to lead us to a treasure or something. Problem was, it was owned by some rich shady mob guy or whatever. To get into his mansion, we "crashed" a big party by pretending to be on the guest list, and me (being a shmexy vixen type with lots of charisma and stealth skills) managed to finagle my way upstairs to the master bedroom. Found the shield, but a security guard walked in on me. So I seduced him with a bottle of champaign in a hot tub. I was going for the "get him so drunk he passes out and forgets I was there" approach, but apparently, it didn't work as well as I hoped, so I ended up going for broke. SHOULD have just bopped him in the head with the champaign bottle, but naturally, I didn't think of it until later. Needless to say, the guy was NOT using "protection". Ergo- yeah....

Divorced, huh? Bummer. I've had party members who stole from anyone who got killed during adventures, but never had any marital problems. Then again, none of us ever got married in game....

Posted by: Gorvar Feb 28 2012, 06:20 PM
Anyone else thinks we should do a D&D campaign?
I would totally play with you guys!

Lol. All that and you forget to do the direct approach. Don't feel to bad, we've all done it. Over thinking can lead to some embarrasing and amusing situations. Chuckle, yeh the GM was a bastard and set me upo really good to loose most of my loot. First and last time I had a charcter of mine get married. Then again I've had two Vampire childe double cross me after being embraced. Sometimes its better to be a lone wolf. moody-smiley3.gif

Gor a great idea except for the logistics. You in Belgium, most of the others scattered across the US and two of us in Australia makes running a party rather tough. Still a nice idea.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 1 2012, 05:30 PM
Well, well. In that case, allow me to be the logistics person. I currently belong to two other boards forums (the aforementioned Candlekeep and CoE sites) where there are entire forum pages set up and dedicated to on-line free-form games. One person is designated as DM (or in some cases, each person simply states what their PC('s) is/are doing, and there is often little die-rolling involved) and the campaign can either be pre-decided by the thread's opening poster(usually the person who developed the start of the campaign), or can simply evolve as it goes. If you want to go full-monty(haul) RPG style, there are some good on-line die-roller programs we can use, or simply declare success or failure based on the probability of something going right. Basically, the more difficult or complex an action, the harder it would be to pull off. Each person posts what they attempt to do, and if it affects another person's PC, they can either oppose it, or let it stand. If undecided, the DM can rule. NPC's are usually either under control of one person (DM) or each poster simply interacts with NPC's themselves, with "walk-on" roles for those random characters that are simply scene dressing and such (ie- store owners who only appear once, etc.). Major NPC's are usually controlled by whoever introduced them, or the DM, if any.

For most such games, it's usually better to go rules-light, only using rolls for really important things like major actions. I've played in several, both using full rules, and almost none at all, and it's generally pretty fun as long as everyone can keep it going. Of course, as with table-top campaigns, RL can and sometimes does intrude, but the nice thing is that each player can check the thread as they have time, and it's not always necessary to wait for the next person, since posters do not always get on in order. Usually, the next person to post just deals with their own portion of the action and story, and it continues while the one who was behind catches up in their own post. Kind of like a continuing story-line with each participant telling part of the tale, only with stats!

If anyone's interested, I could start up a thread here, and see how it goes. Out of Game and Out of Character comments and questions could have their own thread, or simply be stated as such in posts, as decided by vote. Depending on the edition(s) you guys are familiar with, we could make it edition-neutral, or use whichever is easiest. Personally, I like 3.5 ed, or a very rules-light 2nd with some 3rd ed stuff spliced in. And we can have house rules for certain things. (I have one that anything particularly funny or outstanding in OR out of game gains "PXP" or player experience points, which can be used to raise a stat, gain skill points, learn a feat, or saved to trade for items, special favors, or level-gains later).

i'm in.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 8 2012, 07:47 PM
Okay, I hate to do this, but I'm unfortunately in a position right now where I absolutely cannot post any more on my stories here. The reason, as I've just discovered, is that ALL of the library pc's (until today, there were still two I could use unhindered) now require an admin password permission (which apparently only two people know, and of course they are rarely around) to install any sort of program on a terminal- which includes the file-converter I use to convert my Works files from home into Word to be able to access them here. I only had the trial version of Word at home, since I never used it(HATE it) and it is WAY past the use-limit! Ergo, all my files are in Works, which requires me to use a converter since they don't have it installed here. Thus my delimma.

Sucks, but there it is. My link to posting my tales has been severed unless or until this changes. I've asked if they can suggest removing the permission requirement to the IT guy, but I doubt that will happen. Sucks that their attempts to protect the pc's from having anything harmful installed also completely blocks me from posting my stuff! Don't worry, I'll still be around- wouldn't miss all you guys' tales for ANYTHING- but if or when I do post anything else, it will be VERY slow, and will probably have to be hand-copied or printed so I can re-type it all as opposed to the cut-paste I normally use. Sorry guys- but the "security" car just took a wrong turn away from User-Friendly Avenue, down to Pain-in-the-Butt Street!

Until then, I may go back to making hard-copies of everything, so I can still post, and I may start some new ones just for here. Who knows? Maybe there was a REASON that printer/scanner recently dropped practically into my lap! (Hmmm, I'm wondering now if certain muses/gods of art and inspiration weren't looking out for my interests, and steered it my way, knowing this was coming? The gods DO work in mysterious ways....)

In the meantime- I'm down, but not out yet!!!

Edit: Gorvar, if you're not the ONLY one interested, this may be the perfect time for us to start that thread!

I agree with Feral. That is truely a parlous situation of the most excremental kind. In other words its crap. Your stories will be sorely missed. My only thought is that you could email your stories to one of us and we could convert them and then post them up for you, making it very clear this is your work.

I would be honoured to do it if you so chose. PM me if you want to consider it.

Actually, that would be a great idea, except that getting INTO my work here is the problem. Without the converter, I can't even open the files here where I have net access. If I could, I'd just email them to myself and solve the problem that way. I may try to find some way around it, but with my limited pc skills, that will take a lot of creativity and/or "leg-work". I tried to print som pages yesterday to bring with me, but my printer is being stubborn and uncooperative at the moment. The last thing it printed was a character sheet that came out in gibberish. ---.gif ymgoofball.gif yahoo-07.gif blink.gif Gotta love technology.....

Well if there is anything we can do to help. I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to help.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 23 2012, 04:18 PM
Well, I am currently looking into inexpensive net options for home- so far, dial-up may be the only one, unless I can get decent cable or wi-fi for cheap.

BTW- I'm going to start posting the RPG thread, and whoever is interested may join at their leisure.

Good luck with the web service search!

Nice little snippet for DS, Ducks!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 29 2012, 03:36 PM
I didn't have much time yesterday, so go back and re-read it again, I am going to edit it to add more in. You guys might get a chuckle out of how this turns out!

Hrm, no one's going to comment on the last two chapters I posted of Darksong and Golden Flame?

Posted by: darktruth Apr 9 2012, 07:01 PM
I've got to catch back up on your tales. Might try and get through some tonight.

Posted by: Gorvar Apr 13 2012, 01:00 AM
Read your latest of Darksong.....yeeeh, im waiting for it all to blow up in Lothir;s face.

Posted by: Feral Female Apr 13 2012, 04:19 AM
Sorry Ducks, I`ve been swamped in RL and didn`t notice you had posted. I`ll grab those tonight when I have time to read.

Posted by: Feral Female Apr 13 2012, 02:59 PM
And here I am, back and caught up. =) Very nice use of song by your boy there! And how sweet that he plans to gift his love!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Apr 13 2012, 04:39 PM
Heh, it's all going to blow up in SOMEONE'S face, alright.... Wait til the party gets going.....

Methinks the Jabbress is living on borrowed time!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Apr 20 2012, 02:57 PM
She may not be the only one..... The Drowning Pool song "Bodies" may have some relevance before all is said and done!

Posted by: Feral Female Apr 27 2012, 02:23 AM
Well that`s certainly a terrible way to end a bit of slap and tickle.

Well done, Ducks!

Posted by: Gorvar Apr 27 2012, 03:49 AM
Well....drow mating can be quite dangerious indeed hehe.
Liked it.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Apr 27 2012, 02:19 PM
Well, you know how it is- sometimes the spider bites, and sometimes it GETS "bitten"! Guess that's the problem with venerating a bug- there are plenty of other things higher up on the food chain, LOL! Glad you liked it, guys! And just wait, it's going to get even more interesting REAL soon!

@ Feral- LOL, I guess it would depend on you POV. It certainly wasn't terrible for Belgreth.....

Posted by: Gorvar Apr 27 2012, 04:53 PM
Big fan of the backstabbing, big fan of shaggery...big fan of both at the same time haha.

Posted by: Feral Female Apr 28 2012, 03:52 AM
Somone sounds a tad envious. Nice work, Ducks!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie May 3 2012, 04:42 PM
Whom were you referring to? Belgreth, or the sadly un-manned G'eldreth (whose name I recently realized fits his, uh- situation.... Technically, though, it means "spider-taken" or "friend-obsessed".)

Fun Facts: Drow names almost always have one or more meanings, and these sometimes reflect aspects of the individual. For example, Lothir's name can mean either "Lolth(Lothrenya in my realm) watches", "Eyes of Lolth" or even "watchful scout". In his case, the name was meant both as a sadistic joke on the part of his mother, and a subtle reminder to Aldan (originally surface elven, so his name does not translate into their language well) of who was truly in charge- ie, the Venom(Spider) Queen. It's sort of ironic, though, considering that he(Lothir) has NO loyalty to her at all!

His mother Ardra's name originally came to me from an episode of Star Trek TNG, in which a female devil-figure by that name menaced a planet the crew was visiting., and even threatened to bring about their "appocalypse". I thought the name was cool and fit with drow personalities, so, there you go....

Most of the other names I have used here were formed by using a drow name-generator from an old issue of Dragon Magazine* (one of D&D's two companion-mags that used to be published to update and add material for the game, as well as introduce fiction and new settings, new products, etc. The other one was, naturally, called Dungeon.)
*ish #261, FYI....

Also, drow (and surface elves) often use the name of their clan, merchant house, or noble family if they have one, though only the actual family members are allowed to take the name as their own. All others (retainers, servants, guards, etc) may only use the appelation "OF House so-and-so". Some mercenary groups (like RAS's Breagan D'aerth) also use their affiliation as a sur-name, particularly if they are houseless rogues whose families have been exterminated.

Posted by: Ravenswald May 3 2012, 05:00 PM
Finally caught up. My how the spider turns and for once the male got in before the female (so to speak). Ah yes Adra, actually come to think of it she was quite drowish in her personality up to actually killy people. Quite a greedy, mischevous and quite lascivious creature and quite duplicitous.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie May 3 2012, 05:18 PM
Ah, so I take it you remember the episode! Kudos! I loved the idea of a female "devil", and the character has always just screamed fantasy villain/goddess to me. I decided to make her L's mom, just cause it seemed like how she might be. A few cosmetic/power tweaks, and...voila!

Posted by: Ravenswald May 5 2012, 04:05 PM
Well Lothir seems to have everything in hand, so to speak. Even though he doesn't know the B has already double crossed his ally L is taking everything as suspicious.

Posted by: Feral Female May 6 2012, 03:13 AM
What Ser Raven said!

*Fans face*

That there was some good erotica! Very nicely penned, steamy and yet not crude. I can`t wait to see what happens next.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie May 17 2012, 06:49 PM
Glad you liked it!! I took some inspiration from a series of e-books I've been reading, simply called "Dark Elves" by Jet Mykles- a lady who KNOWS her erotica, apparently! The books are "Taken", "Mastered", "Salvation", "Dissent",
"Discovery", and "Awakening". All very good, with a great story interweaving through them. In those books, it seems that all dark elves are born male- apparently their goddess (Rhae) made them as her personal consorts (ie- playtoys), and when the gods left, she forgot to make any females to propigate the race. Ergo, they abduct human women and convert them to their race with a spell from their goddess, so they can continue. Unfortunately, a converted female is only fertile with ONE male- EVER. And it's a pot-luck to find out which one. Sooooo.... Um, yeah- lots of carnal experimentation to find the right "truemate". Fun series!!

And thanks for the praise- I wanted to show the frustration of being used and treated as an object, but from the side of turning the tables on the ones usually in control. Glad I succeeded!

Posted by: Ravenswald May 22 2012, 04:17 PM
Well that was a Hell of a thing to read first thing in the morning! I must admit I was half expecting that the seductress might have switched the gobblets back. Lothir certainly seems to be in total control at this point.

As for that series I can't believe it has so many books! Obviously popular though I can't imagine why.

Posted by: Feral Female May 22 2012, 04:25 PM
Yo Ducks! There`s a young lady artist trying to get in contact with you over at Facebook. Her name is Ashley Valentine. She said she sent you a friend request on FB? If so, give her a reply and maybe we can get your webcomic up and running! =)

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie May 22 2012, 05:53 PM
Yes, i have accepted the request and looked at her gallery, but so far I haven't seen anything that matches what I have in mind for the web-comic. I just haven't had time to talk to her about it yet, with spending most of my net-time pc-hunting. However, I DID manage to get the next bit of Darksong up. Enjoy!

Ravens- Well, it IS a pretty good series, I must admit! Although, it is entirely on e-book, so I imagine theat less start-up cost means thewriter can spend more time on a series, even if it doesn't go over as well as hoped. My only caveat is the language and situations in the books can be quite graphic at times. She actually uses the "P****" "C***", and other somewhat crude terms fairly frequently. Oh, and I'm glad you had such an eye-popping morning read, LOL!!!!

Posted by: Ravenswald May 23 2012, 08:39 PM
I'm a little surprsied he left when he did. Obviously the Jabbress is also of a strong will and he still had to be careful how much he asked from her.

As for the series I don't buy e-books (I don't have much time recently for much reading at all) but I think I will be happy with what you and Feral care to write when your both feeling frisky. I am sure I will always rise to your occaision.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie May 24 2012, 01:44 PM
Why, Ravens! I'm SHOCKED! eek.gif Okay, not really- actually just glad to know you give my more erotic scenes a "salute"!!! icon_twisted.gif ymwink.gif lol.gif tongue.gif

And this particular concoction is meant more to loosen tongues, sort of like gettting someone really drunk- without the red-flag side-effects.....

Posted by: Ravenswald May 24 2012, 05:22 PM
I have no idea what you are implying. I was merely responding in a manner befitting the subject and saluting your writing. rolleyes.gif

Ah fair enough I should have realised that it was more subtle than a mere truth drug.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie May 24 2012, 06:36 PM
Would you really expect drow to use something that would be obvious to the person under its influence?? Nah, me either....

Oooooh, i dont think killing priestesses or drow women is a good idea....

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie May 29 2012, 03:43 PM
Lol, thanks! yup, he's got the true dark elven mentality- love 'em and kill 'em.... Or is it just kill now, don't bother asking questions? Meh, either way, I guess he's quite the "lady killer", LOL!!!

Posted by: Gorvar May 30 2012, 02:32 PM
Well played!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jun 21 2012, 03:45 PM
Ach, sorry I haven't been here for a bit, but it's been crazy-busy here. First, (and most important!) I got my new computer!!! Yay for 1T hard drives!!! However, that meant I then had to transfer ALL of my files, pics, music, programs, and writing, etc. from the old one to the new one (via USB flash drives). Including my PC version of Oblivion- which runs like a dream on this thing- and my copy of Neverwinter Nights, which I then spent an entire day trying to find a patch to make it compatible with Windows 7 (only to discover that I only needed to use a different service pack...).

Then there was the matter of hooking my printer up to the new one so I can print my work out (since the library no longer lets me use my file converter without admin password) and on top of that, I had apartment inspection this week. That means doing my once-a-month top-to-bottom house cleaning. (It's a one bedroom apartment, so it really doesn't need a thorough cleaning more often than that, but it's rent-controlled government housing, so...) And to top it all off, I ended up working on one of my days off, so I've had almost no time to write, let alone post! Oh, and of course yesterday was grocery/hubby payday, which meant going to bank and store after work- on the short day for the library. So, no go.... BUT! Now that all that's out of the way, I can get back to writing!!

Posted by: Ravenswald Jun 21 2012, 06:03 PM
Congratulations on your new pc. May it run long and well for you. I've been missing Darksong especially after the last. Your villian seems good at killing unprepared women but he is absolutely useless when it comes to dealing with Lothir. You've certainly captured the dark, debauched atmosphere of the Drow.

I would suggest you read over your work before publishing. A few errors which made your last a little confusing to read.

Posted by: Gorvar Jun 22 2012, 02:53 AM
We missed ya,MsMarvelDuckie!

Posted by: Feral Female Jun 22 2012, 03:58 AM
Welcome back, Ducks! We certainly missed you and your wonderful tales!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jun 22 2012, 02:25 PM
Thanks, guys! I was only gone a couple of weeks, but you missed me?! I'm touched! Good news is- this new pc runs like a dream! Takes only a few seconds to boot up or shut down, unlike my seven-yr-old + previous one, which sometimes took ten minutes to do the same. And I'm not even going to go into download times. The old one would not even handle Oblivion. (Which is one of the reasons I got the new one- I got tired of hubby hogging the 360 and never being able to play MY games. Now I can play the PC versions while he's busy with baseball, motorcycles, or WW2 air combat....)

Ravens- could you be a little more specific? I usually proof my work as I write, but sometimes when I re-type it here, errors of spelling and such creep in because of a possible case of slight dyslexia. (Strangely, this has only cropped up in the last five years or so. Don't know if there is such a thing as adult dyslexia, but... *shrugs*) It happens at work sometimes, too, when I read back peoples' orders, and get numbers mixed. Never used to happen when I was younger. Weird, actually.

I'm not entirely sure I'd call Belgreth a "villain"- more like a very determined rival with some severe insecurity issues. And in all fairness, Sabal and Yasala should have seen it coming. They just got too wrapped up in the idea that no "mere male" would dare strike out against them. Female superiority and all that, ya know. They forgot the drow proverb that Master Serath mentioned waaaay back when Lothir first entered the Academy: "Those who watch their backs meet death from the front."

Also, LOL to the comment about the atmosphere. Yup, there's not much these folks WON'T do- like turning sibling rivalries into deadly contests of wits. About the only thing that IS taboo is incestual relations between direct relatives (parent/child or sibs), and any sort of outright blasphemy against their main deity. Ask Drizzt what that gets you.....

And speaking of same- there is a slight nod to Salvatore in my latest installment. Props to anyone who figures it out!!!

Posted by: Gorvar Jun 25 2012, 11:08 AM
.....I need to read more Forgotten Realms books..didnt see it, sorry.
I did like how our good drow looks after his own!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jun 27 2012, 01:55 AM
That he does! BTW- new part is up! I have a temp net access tonight via networking a friends phone.

Posted by: Feral Female Jun 27 2012, 03:31 AM
Wonderful job as always, Ducks!

I wonder if there is more to this offer from Lothir than it appears on the surface.....

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jun 28 2012, 02:53 PM
Nope, he's pretty much on the level here. He just wants to get down and boogie, and is a little bored besides. Must have been that escapade with Yasala....

So has anyone figured out the Salvatore salute/Easter egg yet? I'll give you a hint- it's in the description of one of the folks at the party.....

Posted by: Gorvar Jun 28 2012, 06:21 PM
I had an idea it was one of the characters, but i really for the life of me cant see which one!
Also, doesnt Lothir have a thing going with the human servant lady?

Edit; Im going on a limb here and go with...Drizzt's dad.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jun 29 2012, 03:43 PM
Not quite, Gor- think different House. And he's had a few books of his own. (Okay, that might be a spoiler.....)

As far as his "thing" with Arianna, it's really more like a "friends with benefits" sort of relationship. We all know who his heart really belongs to. But I'm not sure that's relevant here. There will be more on her later, though- he's not one to leave loose ends dangling, especially when it comes to people he cares about. That's all I'm sayin'.....

Posted by: Ravenswald Jun 29 2012, 04:04 PM
I applaud how eaily Lothir is able to shift from his sexual escapade and interrogation to the desire to dance and enjoy. A strength or a weakness I wonder?

As for the other I do agree that things just slip and even reviewing can let a few through. I think if you read over them you pick them up. I now shudder reading some of my earlier work. How I wasn't castigated for all those mistakes I will never know.

Glad to hear you have a PC that is so fast. maybe you can also enter the realm of Skyrim. If for nothing else the views and world are even better than Oblivion although I do miss watching the sunset from the lighthouse at Anvil.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jun 29 2012, 04:48 PM
Yep! I may do just that- but it might need a video card upgrade first. Not sure if the one it came with is quite up to the visual glory that is Skyrim.

Lol! Yeah, he's something of a free-spirit. He has a very spontaneous nature and a strong mischievous streak. That's the "chaotic" drow nature showing a bit. One of the most important things I did with him early on (in-game) was to bring out that impish side, and the creative and adaptable (some might call it murcurial) mentality. One of the best in-game moments we've had with him was when two female PC's went down to a pond to bathe at night while they were in camp, and *Ahem* a certain young bard who was suspicious of one of the ladies decided to spy on them from atop a tree. (She was cursed with a day/night "sex-change" problem, and hid it by pretending to be two different people. He wasn't fooled.) It went hilariously wrong when the other femme PC (a ninja!) caught him and another male PC (to whom he had voiced his suspicions) spying. Two thrown shurikens later, both guys were sent diving to the ground and running back to camp with an irate nude ninja chick after their tails! She threatened to gut them both if they ever tried spying on her again. (I'll admit his reasons were not entirely pure, as he DID have some attraction to the ninja lady, but he really WAS trying to catch the other gal in her lie....)

And then there was the behir incident...... Lightning and dark elves do not mix well, it seems. Nor do they mix with harpies, or aboleths, or druagar (deep dwarf) priests, or...... He DOES seem to have better luck with dragons, however. Santa now has a frost linnorm guardian, thanks to him, LOL!

Oh, i found something interesting here for you MsMarvelduckie.
I think I shared this before with Feral, but not with you.
It's a series of novel sized stories of a fantasy character called Wulf.
It;s swords, sorcery, sex and all that good stuff. It has an entire dark elf storyline in there so that made me think of you.

Here you go if ou want to have a look.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jul 9 2012, 02:36 PM
Oh my. And HOW did you find this, exactly?!! *glances sideways at Gorvar and giggles...* I might have to peruse that later at greater length. Looks interesting. And rather- juicy......

On the home front- looks like I no sooner get all settled in with my new pc, before my muse seems to have taken a vacay. I guess she decided this past week with the 4th and all was a good time to take a sabbatical. Figures. I think I've gotten MAYBE about three paragraphs hammered out in the past week. Stupid muses and their flighty, unpredictable schedules......

Posted by: Gorvar Jul 9 2012, 02:58 PM
See it as a make up present for not having been here for a while.
Hope you like it, it;s a rather old website and it hasnt been updated in years. But the storylines in it are finished and i hope will be up for a bit longer.

Gor, can you send some of those our way? Down here in Texas, the heat is unbearable this time of year. And since I walk to and from work....yeah. 100+ degree days on a regular basis- and that was in June! You can literally fry an egg on the sidewalk. I know- I've seen it done. I'm kind of a neo-Stoker/Anne Rice when it comes to vamps. I DO like going "old school" rules (with some interesting reasons for the origins of some of them, lol!) for the most part, though some of those "rules" go right out the window and get played for laughs. I also have read most of the P.N. Elrod "Vampire Files" and "Jonathan Barret" books, so there are some influences from there as well.

Well, good news, all! I finally figured out what was wrong with my lack of inspiration- seems my muse had gone on strike. Something about wanting more game-time, more sleep, a kick-ass music playlist to work by, and a good massage. Fortunately, I was able to negotiate the first three. The "Girl Power" playlist added a much-needed musical pep-talk, care of Cher, Madonna, Joan Jett, Enya, and many others. Yes, I even included the staples of gal-headed tunes "It's Raining Men" and "I Will Survive"! The muse is happy. The other condition may be coming tonight..... ---------.gif icon_twisted.gif

Soooo.... now that I've given the muse a little time off and a good kick in the pants- I managed to get some serious writing done on my two days off, and will be posting it very soon. Expect the first bit tomorrow! (Sorry, I'd have done it today, but I forgot to print off the pages to be posted before I quit for the night yesterday... My bad.)

Also, expect more of "Love Is Shell" and yes, more Red-Back soon! Hunter has had an extended vaca, but thanks to adding not one but THREE new playlists for my writing inspiration, he will be returning shortly. I (re-)did a playlist I call "Hunter's MP3" which has tunes that one might find on his own playlist, as well as relevant tunes for both past issues and some I've got planned for the future. Let's just say that "Running With the Devil" and "Bark at the Moon" both have places on this tune-list.... Of course, I HAD to add one for Darkspider too- he threatened to rip Hunter's arms off if I didn't.....

Yeah....dancing on the edge there, Lothir. (see what i did there?)

Those are some fighting words being bandied about in Darksong!

Welcome back Duckie`s muse, we missed her work.

And did I see that some new tales for Hunter are coming soon?? I am tickled all sorts of pink to hear that!

Posted by: Ravenswald Jul 22 2012, 04:23 PM
Lothir certainly is feeling his oats this evening. Defying sworn (and murderous) enemies, dominating high born ladies (when he's not snubbing them) and then deciding to disregard all that is building up around him to show off both his magical and dancing abilities. Certainly seems to be declaring to the whole court I bigger, badder and better than the lot of you so back off or else.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jul 23 2012, 12:43 PM
LOL!! Nice comments, guys! Yup, you'd think that he'd be more worried about the situation, but the boy's got sort of a one-track mind, it seems. Hmm, not so sure that's a wise thing, all things considered- but then, he seems to believe (and ain't too far off the mark) that the "Family" has his back. Granted, it's only because daddydearest would LOOVE an excuse to finish the job he started years before, but then, all's fair in love, war, and apparently, politics.

As for "showing off", the truly funny part of it all is that he really doesn't even think about that side of it- he just wants to do his own thing, and everyone else be damned! (And I think he's starting to realize that for all their superior airs, most of the women around him are just not worth his time, and are nothing but power-hungry harpies, to boot.... Maybe not the best attitude to have, when one can easily be carted off to get tossed onto an altar by a pissed-off priestess. Kinda makes you wonder whether he's completely sane, lol!)

I don't know about insane, but certainly a bit- twisted. The moral compass does not point north in most cases.

Posted by: Gorvar Jul 23 2012, 01:45 PM
Sometimes it's south to. Into some rather more intimate regions.
Well i think i;ve done my part for making rude jokes, so goodnight everybody!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jul 23 2012, 04:43 PM
aww, just when I was getting started, too! LOL! And speaking of jokes, here's a few:

A dwarf, a human, and an elf walk into a bar. The bartender looks up and says, "What is this, some sort of joke?"

A dwarf, a human, and a half-orc walk into a bar. The elf ducks.

Why do dwarves have such big nostrils? Have you see nthe size of their fingers?!

A goblin child pipes up at the table: "Mommy, when are we having grandma for dinner?" The mother replies, "Shush! We haven't even finished your aunt yet!"

Two orcs are walking down the street when one falls over and lies still. Frantic, his companion runs to the temple and grabs the cleric. "Help me! My friend is dead!" he yells. The cleric sighs and says, "Calm down. First, make sure he's really dead." The orc nods, and runs back over to his friend. He comes back a few moments later, wiping blood off his ssword, and saks, "Okay, now what?"

An elven bard walks into a tavern, and loudly asks, "Whose big red dragon is that outside?" An old wizard stands up and replies, "He is mine! He is Aurakignirix the Mighty, and he has torched ten villages just this month alone! He has slain a thousand knights, razed six kingdoms to the ground, and kidnapped four princesses for ransom last week. He eats a dozen virgins for breakfast, and picks his teeth with ballista bolts! Why do you ask?" The elf sighs, and answers, "Well, he ate our halfling thief, and the little guy got stuck in his throat and he choked to death."

Good ones, Ducks!

Posted by: Gorvar Jul 23 2012, 05:11 PM
Okay the last two, made my friggin; day!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jul 24 2012, 12:17 AM
LOL, glad to hear it! I found most of these on a D&D site.

Posted by: Ravenswald Jul 24 2012, 03:50 AM
Chuckle - some of those are as old as me but still fun to hear after all this time. Well done and thanks for the laugh.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jul 24 2012, 05:27 PM
Glad you liked them, Ravens. Hmm, you must be about as old as me, then. And trust me, there are plenty more amusing bits where those came from.

Magic items you DON'T want:
the Total Bastard Sword- it's +5 against women and children...
Prismatic Chastity Belt- while worn, anyone attempting to remove it is hit with the full effects of a Prismatic Wall spell. (lightning, fire, ice, acid, sonic, force, etc.)
Fifty-Cent staff- like a quarter-staff, but only good agaisnt rappers and other annoying sonic attacks.....
Great Sword- actually just an average weapon, but is glamered to make it appear impressive.
Bottle of Spirits- filled with soul-rending wraiths. The grey mist inside occassionally shows a face pressed against the glass.
The One Ring- This magical ring will make a chiming sound- ONCE.
Ring of Spell Turning- when activated, it begins to speak: "T-U-R-N-I-N-G. Turning." All incoming spells still affect the wearer as normal.
Mini-onions of Set- contains small evil snake-monsters. Comes in sets of six.

Humorous Character names: Sir Tifiable, Ahmin Da Moola(a gaming friend of mine used this one), Lord Fa Ling Min(this one was accidental on my part, a local lord in an Oriental campaign I'm currently running...), Miss Sioncomplete, Anna Rexic, Sir Comference, Sir Lee (always angry knight), Sir Duce, Sir Tain d'Eath, Molly Coddle, Kali Flowers, Ahmin Deepschits, Rainey Daize, Warren Peace, Miss Assippi, Mary Melinda, Ohmar Achinbach......

I called my knight on Dark Souls Ser Tubsalot...because he is fat. cool.gif

Loved the dance routine and i can see how it would feel liberating instead of politics and backstabbing.

Posted by: Feral Female Jul 25 2012, 06:08 AM
Another well written issue my dear!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jul 25 2012, 07:32 PM
Thankye kindly, m'dear! I think it's starting to become clear what's going on, but I'll try not to give too much away!

Posted by: Gorvar Jul 30 2012, 01:21 AM
liked your latest there Ducks, who knew dancing kills?
Seriously i did like how hs childhood managed to save his life in the present and i think killing a dude does give you some brag points in Drow society. Kudos.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jul 30 2012, 02:49 PM
Thanks! And yup, that's sort of the reason for the chapter head- "Murder on the Dance Floor". When they say "knock 'em dead", they MEAN it, LOL!!

Well, Gor, sometimes it's what you know or what you're capable of that makes all the difference. The irony here is that he DIDN'T kill him! Or at least, he didn't intentionally kill him- that part was just pure dumb luck..... But yes, they admire someone who can destroy an enemy without it being provable. Naturally, an "accident" is not murder, since it can't be proven (even if it WAS murder). So they're all sort of giving it the wink. Oddly enough, while Taz called it an "accident", it actually WAS. But of course, no one will ever believe that he didn't intend it that way. It's a tough place to be in for someone with a concience. You KNOW you didn't mean to, but everyone thinks you did, but they won't accuse you because they "saw" an accident. But you still feel guilty anyway, because you know that it was your fault. Darned if you did, darned if you didn't.....

Posted by: Feral Female Jul 30 2012, 03:06 PM
Wow, I bet Lothir carries that death around with him for a long, long time. Well done issue there me dear!

Posted by: Gorvar Jul 31 2012, 01:25 AM
Still, if Lothir plays it smart he made take advantage out of this and scare away other rivals. Anyways, cant wait to see more.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Aug 2 2012, 01:10 PM
Tsk, tsk, Gorvar. You ought to know by know that's not his style. However, it may lead to other "complications" that he might not realize yet. It's that pesky "law of unintended consequenses".....

Posted by: Feral Female Aug 3 2012, 04:05 AM
My goodness, you`ve been a busy bee! Look at all those updates!

I admit I grabbed Red-Back first (I`ve missed that lad) and what a great issue! I do thank you for the nod to Karrie and Tony. Man, we have GOT to get Alex & Hunter teamed-up again and soon!

I`ll grab the others later.

Posted by: Ravenswald Aug 3 2012, 05:27 PM
Darksong - I couldn't have written it better my Lady. Excellent end to such a cowardly' inept, thoroughly reprehensible character. The dance was excelelntly written, I could hear the elf pipes playing and see them weave together. I must admit on realising what Belgreth had done I felt sorry for the two Drow Sister. Not because they probably didn't deserve to die but that they had been killed by such a cretin. Still Lothir is now going to have to live with a reputation of killing someone he didn't.

Again well done.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Aug 3 2012, 08:29 PM
*snickers evilly* Thanks Ravens! Yes, he WAS a bit of a creep, wasn't he? Though you're certainly right- it's kind of ironic that he didn't even out-live them by more than a few hours. Karma's a be-otch, eh? *wink* And as for our hero, yeah, he's gonna have a hard time living this one down. Not to mention the consequences may reach even further than he could ever guess.....

Feral, thanks for the reads! And yes, I agree that those two need to team up again as well! Hmm, I've been going back over some of my old issues, to get back into the "Red-Back" frame of mind a bit, and perhaps we can come up with something. Maybe a sequel to "Metal and Red?" The last one was a real blast, and those two seem MADE to bet into trouble together! Now, if I could JUST think of an idea.... *taps chin*

Posted by: Feral Female Aug 4 2012, 04:24 AM
Their last adventure was a real hoot, I agree! Tony and Pete will be grey before their time trying to keep those two out of trouble.

Hmm, an idea....*Scratches head*

Posted by: Feral Female Aug 13 2012, 04:36 AM
I knew that killing was going to weigh heavily on Lothir. Well done, Ducks. =)

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Aug 13 2012, 04:22 PM
Killing? I'd prefer to all it "negligant homicide". Or perhaps manslaughter, if you prefer. Well, in any case, like Taz said- accidents DO happen, and sometimes people assume it was intentional even if it really WAS a mistake. his problem is that now he's starting to realize that no matter what he does, he can't keep his hands completely clean forever. Something's gotta give sooner or later. And when it does..... don't wanna be around for THAT mess.

Posted by: Ravenswald Aug 15 2012, 04:32 PM
Drowslaughter perhaps? Speaking of which I'm wondering whether the deaths of the two sisters may also come back to haunt our hero. They are both dead and obviously murdered and he had been with one of them. His dead enemy may still cause him grief from beyond the grave.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Aug 17 2012, 12:44 AM
Ah, so you were paying attention! Yes, there will be repurcussions from that as well, though perhaps not what you might expect. We'll see soon enough! (However, you might be on the right track about one of them....)

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Aug 23 2012, 06:41 PM
Apologies for not checking in recently, but I've got a GOOD excuse- last weekend was the Dallas Iron Maiden concert, and of course I (well, mostly my hubby, as he's a HUGE fan) HAD to go! We spent the next two days after at a friend's house down that way, saw hubby's mom, and just generally had a great time. Then it was back to work as usual. Lots going on, including a gaming session with our friend and his game group. (Thordar died.... I'm sorry Feral, but the dwarf just didn't survive the encounter with the ogres {FIVE of them!!} our friend sprang on us all....) BTW, the concert was AWESOME!!!!

Posted by: Feral Female Aug 28 2012, 03:21 AM
I`ll be back for Hunter`s newest. First day of school is upon us so time is cramped. I shall return though!!

Edit: Yep, tissues were needed. Very powerful issue, Ducks. Poor, poor Hunter....

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Aug 28 2012, 08:08 PM
Glad to see you enjoyed it the second time around, FEral! And I hope you had enough of them....

On a lighter note, I was just talking to the hubby about one of our old pets, and the idea of some possible names he had considered when we first got him came up. I jokingly suggested we should have named him Loki- and a light-bulb came on. Would you still be interested in a team-up? I have this GENIOUS idea involving Loki, Hunter, and Alex in Asgard, perhaps even with Guri and Robbie for company, and that pesky gem and Alex's robot-cat..... Sound like something you might jump into?

You know it! I am all sorts of up for a team-up! Those boys have been out of trouble for far too long.

Hit me with a PM and we can plot. happyy.gif

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Sep 4 2012, 12:56 AM
Sounds great! I've sent you a PM, with the basic idea outlined. We can fill in details later, but I wanted to get your input first. Anywho....

I had an idea for some fun involving Darksong- posting some of the songs that I took the chapter heads from! I thought it might be interesting to show the themes I was using as inspiration for each chapter, sort of taking a page from Feral's book, as it were. (And thanks for the idea, by the way. Using song titles within the story really seems to fit this tale!) I'll add more later, as the story progresses, but for now, I'll put up the ones that are here. (Note- some of the chapters have changed titles since I posted them, so the songs will be for the CURRENT title of each chapter.)

Chapter 1- One Child:

Chapter 2- Wicked Game:

Chapter 3- Moonlight Lady:

Chapter 4- Spill the Blood:

Chapter 5- Over the Seas:

Chapter 6- The Warrior:

Chapter 7- Dance of Death:

Chapter 8- Kiss Me Deadly:

Chapter 9- Power Play:

Chapter 10- Murder on the Dance Floor:

Hope everyone enjoys these! I will be posting more of the tale later, hopefully.

What a moving issue of Darksong. My heart nearly broke for the poor lad. Very well written, Ducks!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Sep 7 2012, 06:42 PM
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. So has anyone checked out the linkys above? I'd like to see what you guys think about how they fit the themes in the story.

In any event- keep your eyes peeled, folks- I've got a new (okay, old) tale debuting here, my very own team-up with our resident celebrity, Feral Female! We'll be starting with our first cross-over from a few years ago, the premiere arc of "Metal and Red"! We're giving everyone a chance to get up to speed on what's been cooking with our two young heroes, Hunter Parker(aka Red-Back) and Alexander Stark (aka Heavy Metal)! Then we're going to be launching an ALL-NEW tale of heroic hijinks by our intrepid "Sons of"!! So stay tuned!

Posted by: Feral Female Sep 8 2012, 06:29 AM
I did check them out and think they feel good for the themes of the story. I always found finding the right songs for Sons of War was moer time consuming than the actual writing!

You know, Ducks, I had forgotten just how funny Hunter and Alex are together. They play off each other so well, and you can really feel the bond between them. I need to get that lad included in Talon, with your permission, of course.

I`m really looking forward to a new story with the 'Sons Of'! Funny how when you read back through earlier work you see how much you`ve grown as a writer. This time I`ll stick a comma in here and there. ymwink.gif

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Sep 11 2012, 01:37 PM
Lol, no worries! I've already been doing that as I go, just doing a few minor grammar and spell-checks as I posted them. That's partly what took so long to get them up that I couldn't get all of them. Got just two or three more left (and finishing the last one) before I start up the latest M&R adventure!

Also, I'd be pleased to allow yout to borrow Hunt-man for Talon, it's always fun to see how everyone here interweaves characters topgether into the bigger tapestry. I sometimes wish Marvel did it more like that, so that there would be fewer continuity gaffes- especially with Wolvie or Spidey. Sometimes I feel like they get used just to appear in an issue, even when it doesn't make sense chornologically. If someone is off doing their own thing, they should be stated as such in team books, NOT appear at the same time!

Posted by: Feral Female Sep 12 2012, 02:40 AM
Thanks, I`ll get Hunter into Talon as soon as possible.

Loved the last Darksong. Hopefully he can carry through with his plans and get them all to safety. I can`t imagine it will be easy through.

Posted by: Feral Female Sep 14 2012, 02:56 AM
Great to get more of the H&R show! I`d completely forgotten about the body switching story we had done. I think the guys are learning some valuable lessons about each other.

Posted by: Ravenswald Sep 14 2012, 03:02 PM
M&R - Well so this is what Alex turns into, and he was such a quiet baby to! I'm was shocked that teens were up at 6:30 in the morning but I suppose if its a chance to make a lot of noise and get into mischief anything can be done.

A lot of fun MsMD. Enjoying reading the near future of the Starks.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Sep 14 2012, 03:52 PM
Thanks, Ravens! And don't forget, Feral deserves half the credit! Yeah, I'd say that even teens will get up at the crack of dawn if there is some fun to be had. Don't worry- more is on the way!

Posted by: KaiYves Sep 16 2012, 05:08 PM
Metal and Red are such a hoot to read about-- especially as my brothers are about the same age now!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Oct 11 2012, 10:21 PM
Avast, me hearteys! Thar be a new edition of Darksong up! Okay Feral, I blame you. This pirate-talk seems to be catching....

Posted by: Feral Female Oct 12 2012, 05:59 AM
Holy cow, Lothir is going to have a hard time dealing with THAT if it comes to pass.

Nicely done, Ducks!

Posted by: Ravenswald Oct 15 2012, 03:00 PM
Darksong - Russian Roulette, Dark Elf style. No wonder most attempts are cloaked in so many levels of secrecy, loosing is a terminal end. Lothir is going to have a lot on his conscience now. Does he let the House fall or go up against his father (who probably saw this as a golden opportunity to eliminate a potential rival and seal his own position). I wondered where this was leading, well done.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Oct 16 2012, 03:39 PM
Well, don't wonder too far, Ravens, you might get lost, LOL! Kidding. Thanks for the reads, guys! Hope you're enjoying all this intrigue and cloak-and-dagger stuff as much as I am! It's a lot of fun to write, especially some of the gritty details of what's going on. I had a LOT of fun writing this next bit, especially the actual methods being used- some of the tactics are just plain wicked! And, as you will see in this new ish, the question has been resolved- and rather permanently, at that. Not that there was ever truly any question in the first place. Here's why-

A: Yes, daddy thought it would be an opportune chance to stack the deck more in his favor- seeing how Bel's family were from the old guard.
B: Using any pretext to eliminate rivals/threats or just plain show one's power is SOP for these folks, so no one really cares.
C: By the time L heard about it, things were already beyond any influence he might have- which is basically zero at this point.....

Posted by: Ravenswald Oct 17 2012, 03:37 PM
Wow, a stellar class of D&D demons from every book I can remember. I forgot the Balrog had been renamed Balor due to the issue with the Tolkien estate. Well I'm wondering whether the Scions of the house were dumb enough or arrogant to stay at home. I would have though as soon as they learnt what their homicidae son had done they would have buggered off asap and left their poor soldiers and slaves to take the punishment. Still an impressive display. Well done.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Oct 17 2012, 04:01 PM
Well, now- that's the question, ain't it?! Actually, a better question is: did they KNOW about it? Remember, in the world of drow, individual schemes are often just as damaging as those of a House. Still, they must have wondered what became of the wizard and "assassin" he sent to the shop/manor. Maybe he just wasn't talking..... icon_twisted.gif ymwink.gif yahoo-07.gif

Glad you liked the balor! Personally, I had more fun with the jovocs. Nasty little guys, those! And something I could totally see drow using in a battle. But who knows? Maybe someone survived. But I wouldn't count on it. Daddy likes to be thorough. Expect bodies to be produced. Or heads, at least!! (Remember L's FIRST magic tutor? Just sayin'...)

Posted by: Feral Female Oct 18 2012, 02:26 AM
Well done indeed! I`m not familair with all the D&D characters as Raven is but the storytelling was superb as always.

Posted by: Ravenswald Oct 28 2012, 08:32 PM
I hope things work out for you and your husband Ducks.

Darksong - Well Belgreth seems to be plaguing are hero with his misdeeds despite the death of him and his entire family. Either L's reputationwill now be a terror to the Drow and a warning that he kills any who cross him or he's going to be dealing with more and more would be assassins. He's going to have to deal with this one way or another eventually.

Posted by: Feral Female Oct 29 2012, 05:42 AM
Sorry to hear about Mr. Ducks medical problems. Hope things work out for him. My MIL suffers from diabetes so we`re very familiar with the trials and tribulations that disease brings.

I agree with Ser Raven. Seems like Belgreth is plaguing our hero even in death!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Oct 29 2012, 03:53 PM
Well, I'm looking into some herbal remedies for the neuropathy, since medications can be expensive and have some bad side effects. What I've found so far seems promising, and is poking my inner witch into doing some "kitchen magic".

Hmm- well, I DID say there might be some repercussions, no? But as we shall see, our hero has some plans of his own, and we may see a few new players getting involved in his affairs....

Posted by: Feral Female Nov 12 2012, 05:02 PM
Nicely done issue of Darksong! Sounds like things are settling down for our hero....for the moment that is.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Nov 13 2012, 08:01 PM
Well, anytime things are quiet in a dark elven city, you should be worried. It usually means that they are up to no good.... LOL! Anywho, I thought he deserved a little break from all the intrigue and drama- er, trauma. Anyway, stay tuned- it seems he has caught the attention of someone new. But to what end...?

Posted by: Feral Female Nov 14 2012, 03:34 AM
Another good issue! The changedance is a fascinating concept.

Posted by: Ravenswald Nov 14 2012, 04:05 AM
Well a new adventure seems in the offering for our hero (possibly soon to be heroine - not sure I want to know what happens to a male when he changes). It looked as though the young Prince was planing on a trip with the company he now has and their experiences. Maybe he still will depending on what these ladies want and whether he is willing to help them. Good issues Ms M.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Nov 14 2012, 01:52 PM
Thanks, guys! Unfortunately, I can't take credit for the Changedance idea- that one came straight from Ed "Elminster" Greenwood himself in a post some years ago over on Candlekeep. They have a forum for fans to ask questions of the writers, designers, and of course the creator of Forgotten Realms himself. In his thread, he sometimes gives tidbits of "new" lore not otherwise included in any sourcebooks or novels, and this was one of them. I liked it so much, I decided to include it in this tale, in part to show how that particular faith views things. In the past, some have critisized both sects as sexist (female-dominant), but since her followers are traditionally equal, I felt it would allow me to show why they have certain rituals as being for only one gender, yet still allow equality for everything else.

Well, Ravens, you're half-right, at least. He is planning a trip, just not for himself. Remember how he told Arianna that he had neglected their needs? He's working to rectify that- by basically giving them their own ship to go home in. Yes, folks, its his own version of an underground railroad- maritime style! Besides, you didn't think he'd forget his promise to Ravyn, did you? Nope, he's still waiting til he gets home on that one. But you can bet he has something in mind for that, too. But what do these ladies want with our young friend? Time will tell...

And for the record, what happens to them is that they get to see how the other half lives for a night (or possibly longer). One might assume that there is an equivilant ritual for the ladies if they choose, but Ed never actually mentioned one in his lore-post. So what we have is a chance for guys to understand the feminine perspective in a very literal and personal way. And yes, that does entail any and all possible consequences/outcomes/experiences that may be included in that decision....

Posted by: Ravenswald Nov 20 2012, 02:32 AM
Darksong - Well Lothir is finally standing up and telling everyone else to sit down and keep their hands to themselves or else. About time. He might actually get what he wants although not with this lady. What will she think now, learning that he is now heir of the First House. Will confuse her even more no doubt.

Posted by: Feral Female Nov 20 2012, 03:34 AM
Geuss he told her didn`t he!? Way to go Lothir.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Nov 20 2012, 05:49 PM
Geehee! Guess he just finally got fed up with all the pawing and grasping hands.... Yup, Ravens, she may be a little confused at that, but I bet HE'LL be even more confused when he finds out whom he's really dealing with! (Talk about having egg on your face...)

Posted by: Feral Female Nov 21 2012, 04:00 AM
Very enjoyable issue for the Turtles!

Posted by: Feral Female Dec 9 2012, 04:50 AM
Good work on both Lothir and the Turtles tales. =)

Posted by: Ravenswald Dec 9 2012, 03:12 PM
Darksong - and so a new chapter opens for our hero. He finally finds new allies and possibly friends but what foes will they bring with him I wonder?

Posted by: Gorvar Dec 9 2012, 03:22 PM
Lothir made the right choice to distrust her though.
Trust no-one...ever.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Dec 9 2012, 08:34 PM
Gee, Gorvar, cynical much? As for new enemies, time will tell....

Posted by: Gorvar Dec 10 2012, 03:31 PM
In the Game of Thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Dec 10 2012, 04:03 PM
True enough, but this isn't a game of thrones- it's a deceptive dance of life and death.... Remember, the lad has ZERO interest in ruling. It's everyone ELSE who seems to want him as a future king! (Never mind that his own plans include running off with Ravyn as FAR from home as possible, as SOON as possible!)

Posted by: Gorvar Dec 11 2012, 05:48 AM
Doesnt mean he isnt pulled into it one way or another haha.
What;s the saying again, I was out...then they pull me back in!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Dec 13 2012, 04:48 PM
I take it you haven't read the "sequel" "Children of the Golden Flame" yet, have you? It's in the same thread with "Night of the Black Cat". It was actually written first, so Darksong is really more like a prequel to that one, much the same way that the Icewind Dale series of R.A. Salvatore was written before the Dark Elf trilogy (Homeland, Exile, Sojourn), even though the Icewind books occur chronologically after that trilogy. And this tale really has little in common with Martin's novels, to be honest. It's closer to Salvatore's work in theme, though certainly no regurgitated rehash!

Posted by: Ravenswald Dec 16 2012, 04:04 AM
Darksong. Well I hope Lothir's trust won't get him into trouble, or a relationship. The drowess seems to be suddenly taken by the young hero's openness. Sword Spiders - nasty. That's quite some protection they've got there and very cheeky to use the Spider Goddess' own creatures.

Posted by: Feral Female Dec 16 2012, 04:12 AM
I`m with Ser Raven. I hope Lothir`s trust won`t land him in a bad spot.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Dec 16 2012, 02:21 PM
Glad you both enjoyed it! Well, so far, her interest is purely acedemic- or at least based on curiosity about this cheeky male. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. And yeah, when I was coming up with the house's defenses, the sword spiders seemed like an interesting and devious twist. These ladies might not be evil, but they still have the drow talent for deception! Not to mention a healthy sense of humor regarding their enemies.... icon_twisted.gif ymwink.gif

Posted by: Gorvar Dec 16 2012, 03:39 PM
Dont trust anyone, Lothir! Listen to Uncle Gorvar!
In All seriousness now, MsMarvelduckie is a MASTER in writing Drow. I can see Salvatore all over your work style wise, and that is a good thing. Me, i'll stick with Martin for my fantasy...might have to start again.
Kinda feel bad when I compared my Drow to hers now back when I did Song of Seasons.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Dec 16 2012, 08:12 PM
Aww, Gorvar, getting a bit paranoid, are we? Methinks you might want to read the other tale- in spite of the odd spoiler here and there- as there are hints here of some of the "past" events mentioned in that one. I'll say no more on it now, but I suspect that canny readers of both tales will pick up on what is going on here.

And thanks ever so much for the praise, Gor! *blushes* I am most honored to be compared to the Master of drow tales, though hopefully not as a "copycat", as a few other readers elsewhere have suggested. There's a reason you see his influence- I've read nearly all of the Drizzt (and Artemis/Jarlaxle) books, and have used them for both research and a bit of inspiration here and there. And don't feel bad about your own take on drow- I actually like the idea of a people without a home who turned into wandering traders. It actually reminds me a little of what became of the dwarves after they lost Erebor(sp?) in The Hobbit! (I went to see it opening night with the hubby. LOVED it!!)

Posted by: Gorvar Dec 17 2012, 06:38 AM
Tolkein did a lot for the fantasy genre yeah!
The reason why I picked the traders tihng was because I wanted to do something new with the drow, kind of like Dragon Age does with their content. I might have to pick up that seriesd again, miss writing those stories.
Ill start reading your other tale, I think my time in Westeros has made me to paranoid hehe.
Neah I dont call you a copycat, im saying you have Salvatore's style written down. He has a certain theme and you go with that theme. You pick one character and you stay with his storyline, I jump all over the place with all kinds of characters like MArtin does.
I think I mentioned that before but there you go.

And now for something COMPLETELY unrelated to my tales.....

Well, I was walking home from work today (it's about two miles, so I get plenty of time to think) and an odd holiday-themed thought occured to me. Okay, so I had "Frosty the Snowman" stuck in my head all day. (Several of the people I work with were singing X-Mas carols all day long, and thus I ended up singing a few myself) and I suddenly realized on the way home while still hearing it running through my brain, that there is an interesting moral question in it.

We all know the song "Frosty the Snowman", and most of us have probably seen the holiday animated movie. We know the story of how a magician's hat happened to be blown to where the kids were building the snowman, and they decided to put it on his head, and it brought him to life. And then Frosty proceeded to discover that unless he got himself to the North Pole post-haste, he would eventually melt.

So here's the question. Suppose that a person owns an item that happens to be magical (implausible, I know, but just run with it) and discards that item, either because it doesn't work properly, or they don't realize it is. The item gets found and brings an inanimate opbject to life (Frosty, in this case). Then the person who had it discovers the occurance, and decided they want the item back. Would they be morally justified to take it back, even though it would now deprive the newly- sentient being of life? Okay, there's the question- discuss!

Very enjoyable TMNT issue!

As for the magic ownership query, I haven`t a clue as to how to reply. It sounds like something Jean-Luc Picard and his gang may have had to muddle through.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Dec 26 2012, 07:44 PM
Thanks! Picard? Huh, I'd figure it would be more up Janeway's alley, myself. ymthinking.gif lol.gif tongue.gif I posed the question mainly because the song got me to thinking about why the magician was so bent on getting the hat back, when it was clearly serving a greater purpose on the snowman's head. And considering the fact he was never able to make it work properly in the first place, what did he honestly think he was going to do with it? Yeah, I come up with som truly odd notions on my walks home at times. Sometimes I even work out entire story scenes during those quiet 35 minutes or so.....

Another cute issue of TMNT!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Dec 30 2012, 01:13 PM
Cute, huh? Lol, glad you liked it! It's about to start geting serious up in there, though... But I am having so much fun with this tale- I can get as crazy and cheesy as I want!! And for anyone who's been wondering- I've been mixing continuities of the movies, cartoons, and the comics. I guess you could call this the "Ultimates" Turtle-verse....

Which reminds me- now that Disney owns both Marvel and the Star Wars universe, do you think we will start seeing crossovers? We could have Han, Luke, and Leia battling Galactus, or Cap vs Boba Fett! Dark Horse does the Star Wars comics, and also does Gargoyles (IIRC), which is already Disney-owned/created. Wouldn't it be cool to see a Gargoyles/MU crossover? I could see Golioth and Daredevil teaming up.... Or a battle between Xanatos and Stark! But beware the Demona/Mystique team-up.....

Very good issue of Darksong! I`ll admit that I`m leery of how nice and normal things seem at the home of Lothir`s new aquantaince. Maybe I`m just paranoid, I don`t know, but I keep expecting something or someone to leap out and bork things up.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 3 2013, 07:30 PM
Well, I thought it was time to give the lad a break from all the back-stabbing and scheming. These ladies are just what he needs, to tell the truth. Plus, now he finally gets to learn just what his patron goddess is all about! (Aside from dancing, that is...) But have no fear, Feral One- this is leading up to something BIG. (And since you've read most of the follow-up tale of Children of the Golden Flame, you might even already have a clue. Hint- it involves some thoughts from the Reverend Julian about some mysterious visitors in "the past".....)

Posted by: Feral Female Jan 9 2013, 03:45 AM
Is it just me or does a certain turtle have a crush on a certain young lady?

Very enjoyable ish, Duckie me dear!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 9 2013, 03:47 PM
Gee, was it THAT obvious??! LOL, um..... Maybe? I was going for the subtle hints. (Y'know, like that blatant reference in the title- both the "new" one and the original title.) ---------.gif lol.gif ymwink.gif Feral, I have NO IDEA what you're talking about.... *whistles innocently*

All joking aside, yes, he does. After all, she's the first female they've met of their own age who is not either a mutant herself, an alien, or some other form of oddity. (Like, say, a ninja out to kill them.) In other words, a nice NORMAL girl who doesn't judge them by appearances, and is okay with spending time in a sewer.... See certain cartoon episodes for reference to various ladies they've come across- including a Nutrino (alien race) gal named Kala, Mona Lisa the lizard-girl (Raph's crush), and Lotus, the human ninja who has crossed swords with Leonardo, and is an on-again-off-again crush of his, and never mind that they met when she was trying to kill them. There was even a female terrapin mutant named Venus in the (ahem) short-lived LA TV series. Yeah, these guys just CAN'T seem to find a normal relationship!! Oddly, Donatello seems to be the only one who HASN'T had a female love-interest at any point in any of hte various continuities- AFAIK. Guess most gals are okay with cross-species relationships- just not with brainiacs.

Okay- looks like I just revealed my inner geek here, so I'll just admit to having been a HUGE fan back when the movies and cartoon came out. Watched nearly every day after school, and had a trivia book with lots of interesting fact behind the various characters, odds and ends, music (There was even a TMNT band, LOL!! Goofy, and silly as heck, but the music wasn't half bad for what it was about...) etc.

Just for fun, here's a link to the aforementioned band:

Warning- watch at own risk. I am not responsible for any embarrassment you may feel if anyone catches you watching this!!!!

I feel the same way Feral. Way too warm and friendly for me. I didn't think any Drow Goddess was that nice. Feels almost Wood Elfish. What's next? Hugging trees and owning fluffy bunnies? I can't help feeling either the Lothir's arrival will herald the eminent discovery and destruction of the House with inevitable blood, torture and executions or he's about to be asked to go on some highly dangerous quest for his new friends. Still it is nice for Lothir to find his own little Rivendell even if it is only for a short time.

Ravens, with your previous knowledge on D&D materials, I'd have expected you to remember that she is the ONLY "good" drow deity. She's a definite underdog, of course, and very much alone in her struggle to bring them back to the "light" and acceptance among the various elven races.

And there IS something in the works here- though perhaps not what you might expect. Let's just say that it may be more than coincidence that he ran into them at THIS particular time. He's been mulling over a rather thorny issue, looking for some way to help his wards- and now, he just MIGHT have found what he was looking for......

Regarding her faith, here's some fun lore to share, to give you guys a better idea of what they're about.

A quote from the 3.5 Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide: "Eilistraee is the deity of good drow and those who wish to be able to live on the surface in peace. She is a goddess of song, beauty, and moonlight, worshiped through song and dance, preferably under a moonlit night sky. She is a lover of beauty and peace but is not averse to striking back agaisnt those who would harm her followers. The evil of most drow causes a great anger to burn within her.
Her church encourages drow to return to the surface world and work to promote harmony between the drow and surface races so that they may again become rightful nonevil inhabitants of the world. Members nurture beauty, craft instruments, sing, and assist others in need. Skill at swordplay is also encouraged, as is the ability to hunt."

"Dogma: Aid the weak, strong, grateful, and churlish alike. Be always kind, save in battle against evil. Encourage joy everywhere; lift hearts with kind words, jests, songs, and merriment. Learn new songs, dances, and ways with weapons- pass this learning on whenever possible. Defend and aid all folk, to promote harmony between the races. Strangers are your friends, The homeless must be aided with food or given shelter from storms. Repay rudeness with kindness, and repay violence with swift violence, that the fewest may be harmed and danger removed from the land swiftly. Aid drow and give them the message of Eilistraee: A rightful place awaits you in the world above. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."

While she might sound like a "roses and rainbows" kind of deity, make no mistake- she and her followers can and DO kick some serious butt when neccessary- she is, after all, a goddess of hunting and swordwork as well as song, dance, and moonlight. It's just that a lot of gamers tend to forget the hunting and fighting part of her faith.....

It's also relevant to mention that the drow originally lived on the surface along with all other elves (in Faerun, they were the race known as Ssri'Tel'Quessir or "dark elves", who had darker skin and usually dark eyes and hair) and were banished to the Underdark because they began following evil gods. The very name "drow" actually is a corruption of the elven term dhaeraow, which means "heart of night" or "traitor". Most surface elves- and even most drow- won't even discuss the events that led totheir fall.....

I will note here that the above info pertains MOSTLY to the Forgotten Realms setting; there are some differences in mine that I've used in the story thus far- such as the slight changes in the deity names (Eilistraee to Elistarrya, Lolth to Lothrenya, etc) and minor changes to aspects and spheres of influence, such as changing Lolth to a goddess of all venomous creatures, not just spiders, and using new titles like "Venom Queen" or "Moondancer" instead of the FR canon ones of "Spider Queen" and "Dark Maiden". I did use Dark Maiden once or twice- mainly to tie into the fact that these dieties are worshiped on more than one world. As I have them, Lothrenya is goddess of dark magic, fear, darkness, intrigue, and venomous creatures; Elistarrya is goddess of song, dance, joy, hunting, battle, and moonlight. Obviously, there's a severe clash of ideals between the two- made even nastier by the fact that they are mother and daughter.

Ah my Lady, I may know a lot but I have never claimed to know everything. AD&D was still in its early versions when I stopped playing it (Vers 2 if memory serves) and I never bumped into a good Drow or its deity. I have been properly schooled now.

Also my group never got into Forgotten Realms or even Ravenloft (yes shock!). I also moved on from AD&D to Vampire the MAsquerade when it appeared and never went back to D&D so my later knowledge is basically what I licked up from computer games and curiosity. Its one of the reasons I'm enjoying your series. Drow were alwasy stock villians and you have shown their deep and intricate culture and lefestyle.

Thank you.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 10 2013, 03:57 PM
*bows humbly* And thank you, as well, Ravens, for following along. I'm glad to see that the tale is enjoyable to those familiar with the fantasy genre, and to D&D-related fantasy in particular. That WAS partly the intent, after all, so it's nice to know that I'm accomplishing that.

As for drow being stock villains, I have gone through every source I could find to flesh out the race in my own realm, especially some of the novels. Homeland(vol I of Dark Elf trilogy) and Daughter of the Drow(vol I of Starlight and Shadows trilogy) are my two main go-to novels for crunchy details, and Insurrection and Dissolution (both from the War of the Spider Queen series) to a lesser extent. I even borrowed from the much maligned Lady Penitant trilogy. (And if you ever read that series, you'll understand why- fans of FR drow were FURIOUS by how it ended. Let's just say that the FR drow now have a VERY limited selection of whom to worship...)

Never used Ravenloft??!! Gads, man- were you MAD??! LOL!

New episode of TMNT up! This is a bit of a change from the previous chapters; hope it pleases! And I'll try to post a new Darksong ish later, too!

Posted by: Feral Female Jan 16 2013, 08:55 PM
Very cute ish hearing things from Mikey`s POV. =)

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 19 2013, 02:18 PM
Thanks! I was going over the story, and realized that there were parts that didn't read well due to lack of continuity or even logic in some instances. I blame my age at the time of writing it. A 1st POV story tends to sound biased and unnatural unless one steps back on occasion to show the wider view. So this seemed like a good solution in this case, especially for the events she would have no way of knowing about. And there will be plenty of those later, TRUST me....

Anyway, more on the way! And if I'm LUCKY, I might actually be able to get up that Darksong bit too.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 20 2013, 04:25 PM
Well, I posted a bit more of Mike's side of the story, with some intriguing (IMHO) glimpses into what's REALLY going on insdie that head of his. The boy may seem like your average, air-headed party-dude, but underneath that hard exterior, beats the heart of a very lonely guy....

Posted by: Feral Female Jan 21 2013, 03:59 AM
That was a very touching ish, Ducks. Sounds to me like a certain turtle is lonely.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 21 2013, 06:43 PM
Well, to be fair, I think it's safe to say they ALL are. After all, we're talking about four young guys who have spent their entire lives literally hiding from the world, and never having been able to just be kids or teens. Instead they got a life of discipline and isolation. Not only that, but they are in a very unique position of being the ONLY ones of their kind, which naturally lead to some awkward questions regarding relationships. (I can just imagine Splinter trying to give them "the Talk", when they started getting curious about that sort of thing.... REALLY touchy subject, to be sure.)

Posted by: Gorvar Jan 22 2013, 11:19 AM
I was actually asking myself that to.
After all they are the TEENAGE Mutant Ninja turtles. I think in comics which are set way later most of them do have seperate lives after Splinter died and I think Mikey got together with a Triceratron Princess and had kids.
As for the story, I liked it a lot. You got into Mikey;s head and even made thigns dramatic which is a very unique perspective on things.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 22 2013, 07:53 PM
Whoa- WHAT??!! When/how does that happen? Unfortunately, I've never read more than one or two of the comics (the Mirage ones, I think) but that was YEARS ago. Most of this is based on a cross between the movies and the old cartoon (The ORIGINAL series, based partly on the Archie comics). I did read the newspaper comic strip for a while back in the day when they were at the height of their popularity, but those were just short strips a la Prince Valiant and other story/character-oriented strips, and AFAIK had little if anything to do with the comics themselves. I am vaguely familiar with the Triceratons from the old cartoon series, but they were only ever in a couple of episodes.

Just for fun, I recently started re-watching some of those old cartoons as a refresher on certain bits of lore and character arcs. It's a lot of fun, especially in light of some things I've been reading on one of the fan-sites I found. I discovered that there is actually a LOT of "naughty" stuff in that old cartoon, some of it "hidden" in plain sight! Things like their reaction to seeing Irma (April's room-mate and the receptionist for Channel Six) after eating a pizza Saki had cleverly doused with a "love potion", or counting how many times April gets carried off over someone's shoulder (THREE times in one episode alone!!) or the many very obviously gratuitous butt-shots of her. Even their reaction the first time they see her dressed up in a fancy gown- absolutely hilarious! Things like that not only illustrate that yes, these ARE teenage guys, but that they are kind of perverted at times, to boot.....

And then there are some lines of dialog that are just- well, WRONG. (And from some of those lines, it almost sounds like old Shred-head has some "issues".... There was even a line about him letting Rocksteady sit in his lap and drive the transport module. SAY WHAT??!!)

Throw in the occasional nod to the classic sci-fi movie genre, like aliens named Klattu, Berrata, and Nikto (props to anyone who gets the reference!!) along with the titles of some episodes, and there is a huge amount of cheesy, slightly "adult" humor. (One was called "Plan Six from Outer Space"- a direct reference to an old sci-fi movie title) In the same ep with those three aforenamed aliens, the "child's toy" that nearly destroyed the Earth was none other than the monolith from 2001: A Space Odessy! Most of this stuff would have gone right over the heads of kids watching on Saturday mornings, but rewatching them now, with a background in old classic sci-fi and horror flicks, I'd noticing things that I never caught the first time around.

Here's some links just to show what I mean. Watch at your own risk. Or at least be careful eating or drinking while you watch- I'd hate to have someone choke from laughing!

Posted by: Gorvar Jan 23 2013, 03:51 AM
I think it's in the ongoing Mirrage comics that happend yeah.
Do you watch the new TMNT show, its rpetty good! I prefer the 2003 series still though. Like a mix between the 90's show and Batman TAS.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 23 2013, 03:47 PM
No, unfortunately, I stopped watching the cartoons at about the end of the original series, not long after the second one started- I seem to recall catching an episode or two of the 2003 one, but didn't care for it. The CG movie was pretty good, though, and I bought all of the three LA movies some time back. Of the three, my fave is actually the time-travel one when they ended up in feudal Japan. There was so much they could have done with that story-line in a sequel, at least from the few references one sees of them having been there before in an even earlier time. (400 yrs prior to their "first" visit!)

The series I disliked the most was the one with them in the future, with that annoyingly obnoxious kid who was supposed to be April's great-grandson or something, and was owner of some multi-billion $$ company. That just took half the fun and conflict out of the concept. They were meant to be outcasts on the edge of society, not living it up in some penthouse suite! Which reminds me- apparently Michael Bay is working on a new movie for them, set to start filming this spring (in April, no less) and release next year (supposedly the first weekend of May for FCBD next year) but his vision was to make them aliens! (Hence my little in-story jokes about the alien ninjas or green Martians, LOL! It was a direct jab at his idea....) I hate to say it, but if that happens, this is ONE toon-based movie I will NOT be going to see. I like Transformers, but recreating their origin THAT far from the comics is just WRONG.

Posted by: Gorvar Jan 23 2013, 07:00 PM
I hated Transformers movies with Shia, so when I heard Bay was doing the new movie...yeah i flipped.
I also didnt like Fast Forward all that much, although i did like the Bebop cameo in episode 1.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 23 2013, 07:28 PM
Really? I like the first two- but the third one just really didn't feel "right" to me. His new gf, for one thing- she was TOTALLY not his type, and I honestly couldn't see why she was with him, given her pampered princess/spoiled rich girl personality. It didn't jibe with Sam's at ALL. At least with Megan Fox, there was some chemistry and believability of them getting together. I didn't see that with the other chick.

Fast Forward- I'd forgotten that was the name of it. But I never saw that cameo in Fast Forward, that I recall. Cool! I DO like the 2008 one, though. Had more of the Mirage feel and origin, AND I like their voices and the animation in it- except for the lack of pupils. I've always liked it better when they actually had eyes. Just my own personal preference. And I didn't care for April being Baxter's lab assistant instead of a reporter, either. That was my only REAL beef with that series. I grew up with her as the fearless field reporter! I've started watching that series now too, for a little contrast from the original, and maybe to find some fun bits to use in the story.

Posted by: Gorvar Jan 24 2013, 03:02 AM
I hated all Transformers films and al the human characters in it.
I mean the transformers are the B-cast in their own goddamn movie, you get to see a man in a thong and dogs fucking and someone tripping balls after eating space cake!
That is not what I wanted to see when I want to see robots fighting each other. Also Sentinel Prime butchering Spock's line from Star Trek: Wrath of Khan? Fuck that to.

Anyway, i think you might like the new TMNT show which is on Nickelodeon right now.
The Turtles have pupils, except for some segments where they come acrodss quite threatning when they do their ninja thing, and they revamped April as a teenager alongside the turtes and she is being trained to be a ninja as well!
Again that might be a tihng you will dislike since she is no reporter really heh.

However I do like the April-Casey relationship. I think the 2003 series, espcially in the later seasons, can sway you over maybe.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 24 2013, 05:33 PM
Well, I'll admit there were some things in the first two that irritated me. (Killing off Jazz? In the FIRST film??! ARGHH!!) But the biggest draw for me was Optimus himself- the original voice actor reprising his role on the big screen was a dream come true, and was the perfect way to go for long-time fans like me. Granted, I was a little peeved about Bumblebee as a Camero instead of a VW Bug at first, (although that in-story dig at his old incarnation when Sam is at the used car lot was a riot!) but I got used to that, and actually kind of liked him in that form. I thought they went a little over the line in the second movie with that whole Decepticon balls thing, though. Incidentally, that was Leonard Nemoy's voice doing that line, so even though it was paraphrased (not a direct quote, but close enough to get the point across) I thoroughly enjoyed the nod to Star Trek.

Not sure I like the idea of April as a teenager- she's supposed to be the "mother figure" for the TMNT, sort of a big sis or den mother type. Why is she in training, in the first place?! That only makes sense if she was training in order to keep Shredder or some other loony villain from kidnapping her every other episode, LOL!!! And I liked her relationship with Casey in the FoxBox series (the one I'm watching now) They bicker like a married couple, and it's obvious there is some chemistry there!

TBH, I've always thought they were pretty threatening when doing their thing, and especially when they get ticked off. Raph, more than the others, for obvious reasons. But here are a couple of examples of what I mean. These guys can be REALLY scary when they want to!!

Donnie goes nuts!! (And almost KILLS Saki!!) :

Raph goes WAAAYY overboard in the first few minutes here:

Posted by: Feral Female Jan 27 2013, 04:11 AM
Good ish of TMNT Ducks!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 27 2013, 05:46 PM
Thanks! Yup, it went south alright. Looks like the boys got some 'splainin' to do!! And maybe, JUST maybe.... a new partner?! What do you bet things are going to get hairy when she meets Casey? And BTW, I've hidden some fun cartoon and movie refs throughout this story, though it'll probably be lost on those who never watched them. But enjoy anyway! (Most of these are in the form of direct quotes borrowed from either the movies or the toons, but there are some things like cross-over characters, refs to various episodes, and the like as well.)

To Gor- my bad- that WAS the 03 series I've been watching, for some reason I thought it had come out much later. And yeah, I'm starting to really like it- I'm already on season two- with the whole space/Triceraton/Utrom/origins storyline, and although it's incredibly weird, I LOVE it! I especially loved all of the sci-fi movie nods while they were trying to get home from the Triceraton Republic (on the OTHER side of the galaxy). Not surprisingly, most of them came from Mikey, LOL!! Although there were a few scenes that were either nods to sci-fi movies, or outright parodies of some of them. The scene in the "tavern" where the robot/scientist tells them he found some "smugglers" willing to transport them was hilarious! (It was a blue-skinned and -furred Han and Chewie, LOL!)

Posted by: Gorvar Jan 28 2013, 11:54 AM
Ill catch up with turtles as fast as i can, wanna hear a funny trivia?
The old turtle show cartoon you showed? Is actually from a Belgian channel and I did watch the Turtles on that channel! Hence the dutch subtitles.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 28 2013, 03:11 PM
Only a few of those were in Dutch. The earlier episodes were all American, I believe, with no subtitles. I've watched most of them already. Apparently the site uses several sources for the cartoons available to watch. And the quality varies as well. Right now, I'm half-way through season two of the 03 series on you-tube. Just finished Leatherhead's intro episode last night. Is it just me, or does Baxter have nine lives? He's like Shreadder in that series- HE JUST WON'T DIE!!!

So far, one of my favorite moments was when Leo used the Sword of Tengu to decap Saki, and then at the end of the episode his body gets up and picks up his head and walks off.... WTF??!! Of course, you find out WHY later (in season two), and it's an ironic twist. All that, and the funny part is that if he hadn't cause the Utroms' crash landing, they'd never have been mutated. Hmm, smells like fate.

Posted by: Gorvar Jan 28 2013, 05:42 PM
Krang's race is the bad guy next to the Foot clan in the new Turtles.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 29 2013, 06:32 PM
And yet in the 03 one, they are actually the "good" guys, LOL! And I thought it was really funny that Krang himself had a cameo appearance in that story arc with the Utroms. It was at the end of part five, when they were getting ontot he teleporter device to go home. I'm really loving some of the random pop-culture references in this one, especially from Mikey. (the pop-culture geek of the bunch...) I also noticed that Karai is a lot like Lotus from the old series.

Posted by: Gorvar Jan 30 2013, 05:32 AM
I like Karai a lot, I have a thing for Frenemies.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Jan 30 2013, 04:55 PM
Depends on the frenemy, for me. If it is someone whose heart is sort of in the right place, but they are on the wrong side by technicality, then I like them (Karai, Lotus, or Toru from Jackie Chan Adventures). But if they are truly two-faced, I usually end up despising them.

Posted by: Gorvar Jan 30 2013, 06:08 PM
I liked Toru swapping sides in Season 2! But not really a frenemy more as a defector.
I think Pirates is the best example of frenemies, at elast between Sparrow and Barbosa.

I liked Toru swapping sides in Season 2! But not really a frenemy more as a defector.
I think Pirates is the best example of frenemies, at elast between Sparrow and Barbosa.

I was speaking more of before his defection. Through out most of those first two season before he defected, Toru was the most honorable and fair of the bad guys, and always seemed to feel bad about what he was doing. But orders were orders, so.... That's more of what I mean.

Thanks Feral One! Thus proving that men are not always the braver gender, apparently. And that slimeball of a reporter in the old cartoon was an absolute chicken whenever anything even remotely dangerous came up. He should have stuck to traffic reporting, LOL!

Yep, hanging in sewers does make it rather hard to meet guys.

Nice ish Ducks!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 3 2013, 01:00 PM
Heh, I guess that depends on your dating standards..... Anyway, the incident at the end there is back to the original material again, so maybe soon we'll see if the training is doing any good. An interesting side note that I found while doing research the other day, is that ninjutsu actually comprises at least 18 seperate discipilnes, including horsemanship (I wonder how Splinter would handle that one? If at all...), archery (which was NEVER used in th 80's cartoon, but WAS used on occasion in the 03-010 one), pyrotechnics, tactics, medicine, and much more. And after watching their fighting style in both cartoons, I've come to the conclusion that they use a combination of karate, akido, and jujitsu in unarmed combat, and perhaps kenpo as well. At least, that's as close as I can guess.

Fun facts: Considering their origins as ordinary pet-shop raised turtles, the boys were most likely red-eared sliders, which are the most commonly sold species- and are highly invasive in the wild. They are also omnivorous, though primarily feeding on insects, berries, small fish or frogs, and some flowering plants. This might explain why they eat just about ANYTHING on their pizzas. Also, in the 2000's toon, there were several occasions where one or more of them was seriously injured- including Raph having his shell cracked during a VERY nasty battle with their nemesis. Since turtle shells are actually part of their spine and ribs, that means he basically had his back broken! OUCH!! And Leo got stabbed with one of his own katana in that same fight, and both Mikey's legs were broken. As I said, it was brutal.

I'm kind of liking that series more than the original now, as A): it's more realistic and darker, B): it's got a bit more violence for a kids' show, and C): the stories are not quite so goofy and the humor is a little more mature. Granted, it looses some of what made the old one so much crazy fun to watch, but the villains are much more comeptent and menacing- as a good villain SHOULD be. My only gripe with it after starting on season 4, is that BAXTER WILL NOT DIE!!!! By the point I'm at, he's nothing but a brain and eyeball in a jar hooked up inside an android body, but he's still "alive" and kicking. Same goes for Shredder, who has been blown up or crushed more times than I care to count, but..... ---.gif lol.gif

Good ish as always. And I`d just like to say I find the term "Shell cell' cute as heck!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 5 2013, 04:05 PM
Sadly, I can't take credit for that. It was the name for their communicators from the 2000's series that I've been watching. The term "turtle-com" form the older series was what I originally used, but now I've decided to play with both. And I've discovered while watching this series that the guys have sticky fingers, ESPECIALLY Donatello! Apparently, they have no problems with stealing tech and vehicles from the baddies they thrash. So far, they've stolen two helicopters, an armored truck, a moving van, a motorcycle, a tunnel transport, a hover skiff(kinda like the one Luke had in New Hope), and various pieces of tech gear and electronic equipment. Yes, you heard right, they have "borrowed" most of their stuff from their enemies! Granted, much of it was stolen to begin with, or was acquired/built through various illegal methods, but STILL.... They even stole a train car! Yup. I guess they are true ninja after all, which does include infiltration, espionage, and B&E. Y'know, thieving skills. Then Donnie uses his nerd-genious brain to overhaul and upgrade whatever they gaff and turn it into something totally awesome. And on a related note, they drive around NYC in a STOLEN vehicle with NO plates or inspection or registration, and none of them has a license. And NO cops have ever stopped them??!! ---------.gif icon_twisted.gif ymnonono.gif yahoo-07.gif ninja.gif ---.gif

Another good ish of TMNT!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 11 2013, 02:22 PM
Much thanks! And have no fear- the muse was really cooking over the weekend, so there is much more crazy fun on the way!! I'd have posted it sooner, but hubby ran out of air service on his phone, and since I have to tether to it to use internet at home (I'm posting this from the library today so I can reactivate his service) I've not been able to get on all weekend. fortunately, it's now active again, so I'll post it when I get home! Trust me guys, you're going to LOVE this!!! (And we have another journal entry from our favorite little green guy. My, my- methinks the lad doth have some issues with his big bro! And he's a devious little bugger, to boot...)

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 11 2013, 08:53 PM
Okay, red-alert!! I've now posted THREE new "issues" for Love is Shell, and I'm betting you guys are going to LOVE what's in store. Anywho, read and enjoy!

Posted by: Feral Female Feb 12 2013, 06:38 AM
Wow, you`ve been a busy little bee! Good stuff with the TMNT!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 12 2013, 08:18 PM
Thanks! Just wait- it gets better! (Or possibly worse, for our star-crossed young couple....) And we're about to take a turn for the, er- darker.

Posted by: Gorvar Feb 16 2013, 01:08 PM
Catching up now with TMNt and..I like how Mikey refers to shredder with the same terms as everone does Voldemort ( you know who).
I did like the slight sexism there with Leo. I think as someone who is thaught by Splinter, he would have some old flaws there aka sexism...despite the fact Splinter trains women as well now.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 16 2013, 07:50 PM
Yeah, well, since he's the pop-culture buff among them, I thought it would be funny to have him make that reference, sort of like how the HP-verse considers Voldy a "boogyman" and doesn't use his real name in case it might cause him to show up. Mikey treats Saki the same way. And in light of that odd noise that kept popping up every time someone mentioned his name or whenever he appeared in the 2000's toon, I wouldn't blame Mike, LOL!

While working on this (again), I've been trying to find any character info I can, whether from the cartoons, movies, or comics. One of the things I've tried to do is show the different aspects of each of their personalities, especially flaws. Raph's flaw is obviously his temper. Leo's seems to be his slightly overbearing and bossy attitude. Mikey's is impulsiveness and lack of discipline. Not sure about Donatello, but at a guess, I'd say it's his insatiable curiosity and occasionally sticky fingers, particularly when it comes to anything tech-y!

Wait, when did Splinter start teaching girls??!! And PLEASE tell me you're not referring to that god-awful Venus mess from the (thankfully) short-lived LA series!! Yes, that's right- I even remember HER.... Is there something I missed from the comics? Or did you mean Lotus or Karai? Lotus was alreay a Master in her own right when first introduced, and Karai was trained by Saki. Unless you're referring to his teaching April in the 2000's series, but I sort of chalk that up to simply teaching her to defend herself, since the Foot kept invading her apartment on a regular basis, LOL! Although I did like the episodes in earlier seasons where she was helping them infiltrate Bishop's HQ and rescue them with Casey at her side. The fight in the lab when Leatherhead went berserk and had flashbacks of what Bishop did to him was epic! And her hacking skills came in handy on occasion, too, come to think of it....

And now for some fun stuff to put a little visual perspective on the locations I'm currently using, and some character illustration for our hero. Enjoy!:

This, I think, sums him up best. Go down to post #58, and open the "spoiler" button. Read the comic pages. This says it all....:

Mikey's less-often seen compassionate and generous side:

Some showboating and gloating later on in this arc- especially after he beats Raph. Yep, that's right- the boy's got a cocky side!:

Pt 1:
Pt 3:
Pt 4:

But he can back it up!:

And Raph's darker side in the fisrt few minutes.... Scary!:

Bo MsMarvelDuckie, you sure give a guy homework! haha.
I was refering tio Splitner teaching Paril in the 2012 TMNT show.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 17 2013, 07:48 PM
The new Nick one? Ah. I've not yet watched any of it, as I dislike what I've seen of the animation style. Too cutesey and childish, for my taste. I understand one of the VA's is the same guy who did Raph in the 80's series, but beyond that, I've heared very little positive reviews of it. I recall that he also trained April in the 2007 CG movie, which was really sort of an extension of the 2003 series, but I digress. I have all four of the movies, now, and of the four, I liked #3 the best for its completely different storyline, villains, and the time-travel aspect. That could have been carried over into another film if they had only taken it to the next logical extension (the fact that they had apparently been to ancient Japan before- WTF??!!) but they never did, and instead we got that semi-franchise-reboot/sequel movie for the cartoon series.

Hope the homework's not too much, LOL! I loved how he kept rubbing his victory in the others' faces after taking the championship. And all this after Raph was SO SURE he'd wipe the floor with his little bro, and everyone thinking he wasn't good enough and that Leo was the obvious choice for winner- guess he had good reason to be a little smug and cocky after that! Especially after winning the rematch in spite of the fact that it was rigged from the beginning. But so far, I think the X-Mas one I linked is my favorite. I LOVE Klunk! He reminds me a little of a cat I once had.

And here are some pics of the locations, as promised. The first few are the pump station where our "couple" has holed up.:

I hated 3 with a vengeance. I think a lot of folk from my generation to.
It's boring, they dont play with the time travel angle very well and no shredder. If it were up to me i would've done Triceratrons but hey, that is just me.
I liked the 4th movie for what it was, and i did like how aprill dressed like the chick from Kill Bill while kicking ass.

As for your screenshots...i think i recall seeing the one with Robocop, as in i owned it on VHS. I also recall a storyline where they hunt Crystals.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 18 2013, 07:59 PM
You hated that one? Really? Huh, I guess different people have different takes on that one. I actually liked it BECAUSE Shredder wasn't in it. They've always had many enemies, and bringing in some new or different ones helps keep things interesting. Besides which, they DID kill him off in the second one- or I should say, he killed himself off, LOL! Yeah, an entire pier falling on you is going to do more than just leave a mark....

Personally, I thought the way it was done fit better into the existing movie-verse than bringing aliens and space-travel into the mix. They were trying to keep things grounded in a more realistic-feeling world for the movie audiences, most of whom probably never read the comics, or watched the cartoons. (Except for kids maybe, who probably wouldn't have cared.) In any case, I didn't think it was boring at all. The fights were fun, the plot made sense and fit the overall tone of the previous movies (although #3 was a little goofier), and the time-travel angle just never went any furhter because they never did another movie. (I don't count the CG one, since it's part of a different canon-line.) But I do agree about April- glad I'm not the ONLY one who thought that, LOL!

I guess it just depends on what you grew up with and knew it from first. I was not really a fan until the first movie came out and I found it so funny, different, and crazy-cool that I got hooked and started watching the toons back then. Those were what I grew up with, and I even started learning to draw them, just for fun. I still have some (admittedly goofy) character head-shots I drew back then while playing with different expressions and angles. I didn't get into comis in general until well after high-school, so for me, it was always the Saturday-morning cartoons that got me to like certain comic-book heroes like the TMNT, Spidey, and the X-Men. When I finally started reading comics after I married my hubby, I was mostly into Marvel. So I'm just now finding some of the "darker" material from the Mirage comics. If I had the cash, I'd start collecting them, but sadly, I can't even keep up with Spidey any more!! WAAAHHH!!! (JK.)

Hmm, the crystals story is from the 2000's series, when they found that Atlantian outpost and turned it into their new lair after the mousers trashed the first one. The Robo-cop was from the 80's series- different animals, here, LOL! Interestingly, the old series didn't delve much into the comic story-lines other than introducing certain characters or ideas, but the newer one drew from them fairly heavily- Including a large number of episodes that were apparently based pretty closely on the Mirage comics. The time-travel episodes with Rennet (Gawds, but she was annoyig!) and the one where Don turned into that giant monster-turtle are just a few. (In the comics, it was actually Raph!) So was that X-Mas one, apparently- it was based on a one-shot issue. (Part of a mini-series with an issue for each of the guys.)

Oh, and in case you didn't see it, I put up a new ish last night. Hmmm, things are getting deep around here, and I don't mean the water....

Posted by: Feral Female Feb 19 2013, 06:12 AM
Very nice ish there Ducks. Nice to see the deeper side of the jokester.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 19 2013, 03:38 PM
Yup. I'm starting to see what makes this bunch so much fun as comic characters. You have the family dynamic of siblings who often fight and argue, the parental relationship, various friendships that give them outlest for the need for social interactions, and then you have the underlying "outcast" theme that ties everything together and adds drama, complications, and of course the obvious difficulties of simply walking down the street for a bite to eat. They remind me of some of the more physically biazarre Marvel mutants, having a hard time even just showing themselves in public-except in this case, there is the added danger that they're not even remotely human. Having been isolated and hidden for so long has probably left them socially stunted- hence some of the personality issues. Raph's constant simmering anger, Leo's need to control everything, Don's always retreating into his workshop, Mike's need to be liked- it all comes down to the fact taht they've only been around NORMAL people for a very short time! They all deal with that lack in different ways, and that's what makes it so interesting.

Posted by: Gorvar Feb 20 2013, 01:53 PM
I agree with you there MsMarvelDuckie.
There is some depth to be found with each of the turtles and i think only few authors in recent times really drew that out.
It's a bit romantic as well i think, espcially if the Triceratrons invade and the earth is saved by 4 mutated ninja turtles, a wise sage rat, a former vigilante and a reporter. It's like the X-men except done ver differently...and ver well because of it.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 20 2013, 09:46 PM
Ah, the Trike-invasion arc! LOVED it! At least the toon version, anyway. One of these days, I'm really going to have to get into the comics. But how is that romantic, exactly? Or are you speaking of the "epic-hero" definition? Yeah, that's pretty cool all on it's own. Somewhere, I plan on introducing a few of the other major characters- I've already mentioned Baxter. (Who WILL make an appearance later!) I've got plans for Casey(I'm combining aspects from all three movie/TV versions thus far- excluding the "new" Nick one, since I haven't seen it and don't plan to for now.) And with the Technodrome, of course, must come Krang. (And perhaps other Utroms....) I've got Leatherhead AND the Rat King both lined up for guest shots as well, as are Kala and the other Neutrinos. I know some people never liked them, but I thought they were a fun addition to the original toons. And of course I've already got Irma and Vernon (and April's boss Charles and his son from movie #1) in the background, so you can expect them all to show up at some point. Same goes for Mona Lisa, if only because I had originally worked in a few hints of relationships for the other three boys. (Donnie's involves his unrequieted crush on April, and I've already mentioned Lotus.) I may even have Keno from movie #2 somewhere....

I tried to bring in as many canon characters and stories as possible so that it will feel more like this is actually set in their world. As you can guess, mostly it came from the movies and the old toons, but I've been slowly blending everything I like best about the various characters and story-arcs. Glad to see folks here are liking this! Honestly, I never thought it would take off like it has. Guess it was a good thing I dusted this old tale off!

Some characters/story-lines that will NOT be included, however- anything to do with Rennet (I can't STAND her as a character, and her tales just annoyed me), the entire Lord Dregg plot-line, ANY of the future stuff with Cody, or Karai (I've already mentioned Lotus, who shows up later, and the two are too similar to use both, AND I didn't know about Karai when I wrote this anyway), Macc, or Huneycutt. Macc and Huneycutt are also very similar, and since I never bothered with Macc, don't expect to see either one.

On the other hand, I've been toying with some ideas for fun with the frogs, as well as Usagi! Yes, the Ronin rabbit WILL be in this.... Also, since I went with the movie version of the origin tale, (much simpler than the Utrom one, and perhaps more believable than the reverse-mutated Yoshi) we won't be seeing anything about he Tribunal or the Ancient One, or the Battle Nexus, either. However, Hun and/or Tatsu might show up..... I'm working on that. Of course, that opens up some ideas for the Purple Dragons and the (non-alien/non-robot) Foot origins. Hmm, I've got my work cut out for me!

Posted by: Gorvar Feb 21 2013, 03:54 AM
I think you pretty much mentioned EVERYTHING in the Turtle Mythos there.
As for as I know, Casey hasnt popped in yet in the Nicktoons one..would be creepy if he's a adult where April is..what, 15? Now if Case is like a teenager...dunno, would be cool to see i suppose.
You plan on also showing the Frog mutants? I think Raph had a thing for one of em.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 21 2013, 07:01 PM
Oh, DID he??!! LOL!! That would be kinda odd, since they were all males. Hrm, I was thinking of maybe bringing them in for a visit, maybe a vacation from the Florida heat. Anyway, I didn't mention EVERYTHING- there are quite a few characters I left out- Tokka, Rahzar (thought about them, but it seemed a bit much), Don Turtelli and his mob, the rock soldiers(Gen. Tragg and the rest), Gen. Blancque(sp?) of the "Federation", Prof. Perry(from movie #2), or the entire time-travel story from the third film. I'm sure there's a lot from the comics I'm missing, too. Like I said, I wanted to include enough to make it interesting, without going completely overboard with the number of characters. No Venus or Gecko here, and no Zach. Hated him in the old series- he was such a yutz! tongue.gif Those are the main ones I can think of that I've left out, other than the ones I already mentioned, but there are probably others, too. The alien family of Klattu, Nikto, and Baerrata (old toons) to name a few. Like I said, I've only included the things I liked BEST!

Loved that brush of skin on skin, very romantic. And now we see the real turtle inside that jokester`s shell. Nicely done!

Posted by: Gorvar Feb 23 2013, 01:17 PM
Same with Feral.
I think ou do Mikey very well there Ducks, given him real depth.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 23 2013, 03:46 PM
Thanks! Yeah, it's been a challenge to dig up some of the deeper qualities of these guys beyond what is usually depicted. I found a cool fan-site that has a lot of good discussions on the different aspects of each. A few random comic pages via Google didn't hurt, either. Of course, some of this is just pure conjecture on my part, a sort of "what if" psychological study. Glad you guys are having fun with this- I know I am!

He's always been my fave of the four, for obvious reasons. I even mentioned a few days ago to Mr. Ducks that if HE were one of them, that's who he'd be. Funny, sweet, warm-hearted, and smarter than he normally lets on. Guess that's why I married me a joker, LOL!

Posted by: Gorvar Feb 24 2013, 06:45 AM
TBh I;m more a Rapheal tpe because i love the angst there.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 24 2013, 08:00 PM
Yeah, a lot of people seem to like him best. I never quite understood why, though. Even Mr. Duckie likes him for the fact that he is the "badass" of the group- though he's only really "better" when it's a kill-or-be-killed situation, apparently. The rest of the time, the ONLY one who isn't a "better" fighter than him is Don! (Leo has more skill from so much practice, and Mike's the natural "prodigy", ability-wise.) He's like Wolvie's brute strength and ferocity to Leo's Cyclops-like tactics and skill. I see Donnie as sort of like Beast in being quiet and pacifistic but still formidable when needed, and Mikey as sort of like Deadpool- he may SEEM like a complete idiot/wild-card, but don't underestimate his abilities!

But beyond Raph's angst and tendancy to rage at the world, I never saw much that was of interest in him. Sure, there's the conflict between him and Leo, but I always thought it was a little over-done. Like the various writes (toon or otherwise) tried too hard to play that up. I don't see it as such a BIG thing- after all, these are brothers who have spent their ENTIRE lives together in close proximity, with no other interactions with anyone outside their circle. They would have learned to get along a LOT earlier, I think. Unless the conflict were something that only emerged recently, as they started growing older and becoming more individualistic. But I don't see something that huge just blowing up suddenly without something MAJOR to set it off.

Maybe there is a story to that, and we just haven't seen it? That could be something to explore- learning just WHY they ever started fighting in the first place! You just don't see that with the other two. Don's too much a peace-keeper (he's a pacifist, as I said above), and Mike's just not interested in confrontation- he'd rather just enjoy life- as we've just seen. (Not surprisingly, he's a bit of a hedonist!)

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 24 2013, 10:22 PM
Well, in case no one's seen it yet, I got another one up last night. Looks like there may be a bond forming here, and some more insights on our boys. Have fun!

Ill give it a looksy later!

Posted by: Feral Female Feb 27 2013, 04:13 AM
Rats. *Shudders*

Good stuff, Ducks!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 27 2013, 06:34 PM
Hee-hee! Yeah, he's one of their creepier villains. Just like Baxter was in the old toons, too- or he COULD have been, if they'd played up his fly aspect as monstrous instead of playing it for jokes. I liked his personality better in the newer series, though. A very damaged individual, who really just got himself involved with the wrong people. And ended up paying for it in body parts....

Hmm, what's going to happen to our star-crossed pair? And what IS up with that rat-guy? Methinks someone has an eye for our heroine- and he's NOT friendly!

Posted by: Gorvar Feb 28 2013, 06:35 AM
I actually gotta wonder, would the Rat King's powers have a effect on Splinter?

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Feb 28 2013, 08:14 PM
As a matter of fact, they DO! In fact, in the first episode he appeared in of the OT series, that was the major issue of that story. He played a tune on a little flute that made Splinter go feral and attack his sons every time he heard it. And he also did anything RK told him to, whether he wanted to or not....

Posted by: Feral Female Mar 3 2013, 04:07 AM
Another good ish of TMNT!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 4 2013, 10:46 PM
Thanks! I've finally finished watching all of the 4Kids series (2003-07), and I started on the new Nick one- just to compare it to the other two. I've watched all of the two older ones, so I've been sort of looking for bits that I can use for my tale. So far, the new series shaping up to be very different from the otehrs. I like some of the one-liners and nods to old series (both) as well as the movies, but TBH, the animation is too blocky and childish for my tastes, and I HATE what they've done with my fave turtle!! I mean, sure Mike's always been a little on the goofy/immature side (Except in the Mirage-verse- there he's actually a bit thoughtful and very creative- a writer, in fact!), but this version just comes across as mildly (and that's being generous) mentally deficient. Basically, a complete idiot. I know this is a show for younger kids, but GEEZ!

It does have a few redeeming qualities, but not many. First is the VA work. I like that they brought back the original VA of Raph to do Donnie's voice, although I sometimes have to check myself watching this one, because every time I hear Donatello talk, I keep expecing one of Raph's snide comments, and instead I get the Donnie techie-lingo, LOL! It's weird hearing that VA doing a different turtle. Leo's is pretty decent, and the "new" Raph is pretty spot on. Mikey, on the other hand, sounds too much like a little kid, and his dialog is just horrible. He's WAAY too "dumbed down". They KILLED his character!! Grrrr.....

There's an interesting plot thread going on with April, who is apparently their age in this one- ie, still in high school, and they're trying to help her find her missing father kidnapped by the aliens (the "Krangg"- cute ref to the OT series, LOL!) that are the main villains. Karai is back, and also much younger. Donatello has a crush on April in this one which is kind of cute. (He did a little bit in the OT one, too, but it was never really developed much beyond a few bashful remarks...) Leo's crush on Karai is still there, as well. (He had one for Lotus in the OT series, which is kind of keeping the Leo/bad girl thing going.)

The one thing I like best so far is actually Splinter. They once again went with the Splinter IS Yoshi origin- though it's very simplified- and I like that. It always made the most sense to me that way. I like his VA, and there is a sense of humor to him that was never really in the other two series. The 2000's one did occasionally, but the OT one always made him serious, even when he "made a funny" as the movie version would put it.

Posted by: Gorvar Mar 5 2013, 01:42 PM
I'm wathcing the Nick show in Dutch so i have no idea for the VA work done there.
I kinda like the Nicktoons version, but i think the 4kids shows is the best in my opnion, at least in the way that they stick to the Mirrage comics more.
The Nicktoons version I like but i keep things in mind that the characters, all of em need to grow. Espcially mikey.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 5 2013, 09:13 PM
Oh, boy, does he EVER! Gawrsh, they make him out to be like- eight years old mentally. Bleh. Granted, they did sort of show his more athletic side with the boarding, break-dancing, etc. That's kind of cool. Not sure if it makes up for the rest, though.

Dutch, huh? That must be interesting. Try watching the english-voiced eps on you-tube- I've found at least up to #7 there. You'd probably like it. But if you get a chance, watch some of the OT series for comparison on Rob Paulson (the VA who did both Don and Raph in the two series) to see which one you think he fits better! (My vote goes to Raph on this- his voice just seems to fit Mr. Sarcastic better....)

I did see some English episodes and im always a big fan of every Ralph voice.
Also this!

OMG!! I knew stuff like this existed, but I've never seen any- that's friggin' hilarious. His commentary was pretty funny, too. Hmm, he pointed out something I never realized about my old copy of the TMNT NES game- they all had red on the front of the cartridge and box. Must have started with the Mirage line, then switched it for some reason in-game. I'm guessing they wanted players to be able to tell them apart better, like the Archie version did. And speaking of the games- I still have both the original one AND the "Arcade" one that was made later. Then again, I still have my old NES and ALL my old games for it- including the FIRST Legend of Zelda, The Last Starfighter, Top Gun, Double Dragon II, and Super Mario Bros. And what's more (and cooler) is they all still work! Yup. I'm THAT old.....

He also did some reviews on other Turtle related stuff, like films and such.
He did come down hard on the 80-ties Turtles and 2003 Turtles crossover.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 7 2013, 04:32 PM
Ah, the "Turtles forever" movie. It was cute, but I thought they played the OT series too much for laughs in it. Like making fun of the OT Don's inventions (which almost always worked, BTW- even if they might have a few bugs...), or mentioning pizza every five seconds (well, it felt like it), or making them all out to be like Mikey hopped up on a 32oz Monster. That was a little extreme, IMHO. It was a bit silly at times(mostly in the mid-seasons eps), but not THAT bad. And the 4Kids guys getting the tables turned on them by the Mirage versions? That was priceless. I loved how the Urrom Shredder even scared the OT one, LOL! And the Mirage one literally getting tossed out in the garbage, was just perfect irony. Like he wasn't even a threat.

Makes me wonder though- after all the upgrades Utrom-Saki made to the Technodrome, what would have happened after it got sent back to their own world? YIKES! I think he may have given his OT self some really nasty ideas.... It doesn't surprise me that the guy in your link would come down hard on that movie. Most big fans did have some issues with it, although it was probably one of the better TMNT toon/movie ideas ever done. It was a great ending to both series, not to mention AMAZING fan-service!! (Especially the little clips of ALL the different T-verses! Except no Next Mutation- some fans griped that if you were going to show ALL of them, that had to be there too. In SPITE of the travesty that was Venus...)

And on a bizarre side-note, I will say this- the idea behind Venus was NOT new, even at the time. In fact, I even had one of my own long before that, though she wore pink and was named Athena. She does not appear in my tale, however. I only ever created her as a single drawing that I did as a joke. Maybe she needs to make a reappearance? What do you think?

Posted by: Gorvar Mar 8 2013, 05:43 AM
The idea behind a female Turtle sounds alright.
It could add tension, both sexual and between the brothers. There is only one girl and four turtles, who gets the girl you know.
However if you could do it right, like make Athena a bad ass with her own story arc and a plausible explination why she is also a ninja, or better yet a samurai! She might even bust heads with Splinter on how they should fight their enemies due to two different philosophies.

Add a bit of tension in there and you are golden.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 11 2013, 01:42 PM
You know, I actually had the idea of making her more of a western-style fighter, or a straight-up thief-type. Kind of palying on the idea they used with Gecko being raised by a criminal, but maybe more of a Robin Hood sort (a Catwoman-esque good/bad girl?). I never actually developed that character beyond the original drawing, and I seem to remember she had a whip (a la Indiana Jones). I don't know if I still have it, so I can't be sure. In any case, she never had a background, so that's something that I might need to work on if I introduce her.

Funny you should mention the whole "one girl/four guys" concept, which is exactly what happened with Venus in the Next Mutation LA series- and is exactly why she went over like a lead balloon. They played up that aspect too far, with all four constantly competing for her, and her ending up disgusted with their rather juvenile and over-the-top attempts to gain her attention. Girls tend to be turned off by that sort of behavior. It only lasted for one season (it was THAT bad) and I don't recall which, if any of them, ended up with her. Probably NONE of them....

The main reason that idea bombed so badly was BECAUSE of that tension, which most kids didn't get, and some parents got offended by. Since we're on the subject, there have been several other female characters with romantic ties to one or more of them- Mona Lisa for Raph in the OT-verse, Lotus/Karai for Leo, Mikey was off-on with Kala the Neutrino girl and a rich heiress named Buffy Shellhammer in the OT, and Don's had a crush on April in nearly every version (and possibly Irma in the OT, LOL!). There have also been others in the comics themselves- Raph with a fox-mutant named Ninjara, and Mike apparently had some sort of (ahem) relationship with a Triceraton chick (and MIGHT even be a daddy in the Mirage-verse, from what I've heard! There was a plot-thread left dangling about the female in question having some egss that could have been from him...) So apparently, they don't have issues with going outside their own species romantically. I guess a mutant with already limited options can't afford to be picky.

On Venus as a character(other than as love-interest), she was more of a mystical fighter, having been raised by a master of a different discipline, using chi powers more than any of the guys did- and since it was based more on the movies, that was basically none in their case (Unless you count that scene in the woods in the first movie when they saw the vision of Splinter...). She did have her own story arc of sorts, but I don't know how far they developed it in the short time before that show got canned. Don't remember what weapon(s) she had, either. I only watched one or two episodes of that one before I got disgusted with it way back when.

Speaking of weapons, I've been going through my old D&D Oriental Adventures book and Arms and Equipment guides for weapons (cause our heroine is going to have to choose one eventually) and I came up with what I think may be the perfect choice for her- a kamagawa (chain-sickle). Either that, or the three-piece-rod. Both could be interesting. For obvious reasons, I wanted to stay away from using any of the weapons the boys themselves use most, mainly to give her her own style and to avoid doubling up on concepts already being used. Also, it would be harder to counter something that isn't used as frequently among them (or their enemies).

Update- due to some unforseen difficulties, I will not be able to get on to post as much for a while. Seems the net-connection piece inside my hubby's phone (the little strip inside with contacts and such that lets it interface with the web) has broken off, leaving me without the ability to tether to it to hop in here. This is the downfall of using a cell-phone as your net-access connection- if IT goes, so does your connection!

Soooo.... Until we can either replace the part or the phone, I'll be doing my posting from the library again- with very limited time, and even more limited ability to post tales, due to the fact that on my home PC I use MS Works, and the library uses Word. Since I can no longer download the converter here due to their protection locks, I have to use the trial version of Word that came with my PC and access them on it directly in order to post them here at all- and it has a limited number of uses before it can no longer be used to change or create documents. What that means is that I'll have to be VERY frugal in the number of times I open it up! Sorry if this causes any disappointment, but do not worry, I'll TRY to get the problem fixed ASAP. I want to keep posting these as much as you guys like reading them!

Sorry to hear about the technical difficulties Ducks. Those always stink!

I`m out of time right now but I`ll grab your latest TMNT tale when I come through later today.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 12 2013, 06:48 PM
And now for more fun! I'm including some pics of various characters and locations I used in the story, for reference. Hope you guys enjoy these!

April O'Neal (of course!):

Our favorite spiky villain... Shredder, duh. (and his "silent partner in crime, Krang.):

Without the helmet and armor:

Looking pretty scary:

Is he giving them the "finger"? (okay, claws, but still...):

With Baxter:

With Thing One- er, I mean Rocksteady...:

And his joined-at-the-hip partner, Bebop.:

Both together:

Baxter Stockman (BEFORE the fly!):

And after:

Hun(will show up later!!):

The Rat King himself!:

Lotus Blossom (we'll see her later, too!):

Various pics of Belvedere Castle in Central Park, and the pump station(former) lair under it!

The "Castle":

Here's one at night (from the 4K toon):

And a few shots inside the pump station:

This page has some good pics of the OT lair, which is what I've used for my tale. Screenshots of various rooms from several angles. I just pasted the entire page, instead of individual pics. Easier that way:

More screenshots of the lair, plus post #22 (second one down) is a good layout of the lair! It's the most accurate one I've seen, created from shots from the OT series. This is the layout I used. There are a few things missing here, though- notably, a bathroom, LOL!:

Lovely art of the boys about to bust an intruder!:

Okay, took a while but got into and caught up on your 'Love is Shell'. Have to say I like it so far, definitely a different look at characters I loved as a kid.

I know how it is to have technical difficulties like that, I had to deal with the limited uses of Word for a time as well (it really does make you ration your time on it). Hope you get it all sorted, if only to make things easier for you.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 13 2013, 12:51 PM
Glad you like it Dark! Yeah, I've always had a sort of fan-girl thing for those guys, myself. I'd have to say they were the ones that first got me into comic-book characters in general- even before my love of Spidey! I fist discovered the TMNT through the first movie- it was so off-the-wall sounding that I was curious enough to go see it when it first came out- and I was hooked. Then i discovered the cartoons (the original series) and loved the wacky humor and bizarre characters in it. (Aside from th obvious fave, I always had a bit of a love/hate thing for the two mutant henchmen- they were so dumb and clumsy it was almost as much fun to watch them as the good guys, LOL!)

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 18 2013, 01:27 PM
Update! New TMNT up in a jiffy! We're going to learn a few things about the boys we MIGHT wish we hadn't..... That's all I'm sayin'.....

Posted by: Feral Female Mar 18 2013, 02:16 PM
Well. That certainly answered any questions I might have had about turtle anatomy. Nicely handled!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 19 2013, 02:31 PM
*sniggers* Yeah, I was wondering about some of the logistics of such matters myself. Apparently, the parts in question are located inside the base of the tail (in both genders). So, I googled terrapin anatomy, and was slightly shocked by what i found. icon_twisted.gif th_surprise.gif eek.gif turns out, the "averave length" is about HALF that of the plastron (the bottom half of the shell). Yeah, bulls and even elephants ain't got nuthin' on these critters! (As a common example, an 8 inch turtle would be.... 3.5? Now scale that up for the boys. Heh, Cowabunga, indeed!

And on an interesting side-note, I've noticed that depending on the artist and time-period, they seem to have lost their tails. The early Mirage comics had them, but the movies and cartoons never did, and apparently, neither did the Archie comics. The newer comics from Image and IDW don't either. I'm wondering if they might have lost them over time? A side-efect of continuing mutation, making them more "human-like" as time goes on? At least a little.

Anyway, here are somf fun images I found of hypothetical anatomical structure of these guys (NO, not THAT.)

Skull and head:

Well that was certainly an... enlightening issue. That conversation definitely seemed awkward for all involved. Good issue.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 22 2013, 03:03 PM
Thus proving that there are some things better left alone... LOL!!! However, this MIGHT explain why our hero has been so reluctant to express his feelings. As Leo pointed out, he KNOWS it's doomed to end badly! Or- IS it??? We shall see in time, perhaps.

And speaking of- new issue up in a jiff! Oh, and there may not be another up until next weekend, as I've got an inspection coming up by our apartment management. They've cut them back to four times a year, but are going ot be a lot more strict. So, that means a VERY thorough going over of the homestead by yours truly for the next few days after work, and little time to write or post. Today's post will likely be the last you'll see of me until at least after Wedensday. Hopefully, I'll get all the nit-pick stuff taken care of before then, but we shall see....

Posted by: Feral Female Mar 22 2013, 04:28 PM
Take care of the real life. We understand.

Glad to see the kids are back to being friends again!

Posted by: Gorvar Mar 24 2013, 01:24 PM
Just caught up again to TMNT and...i really didnt need to know bout the know. But i did like the problems it goes with a relationship.
I did like the fact Mikey got kids though, makes sense as well knowing his partner.

Anyway i found this link here, you might like it.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 27 2013, 01:31 PM
Um, sorry about that, Gor, but this is the sort of stuff that "comes up" when dealing with anthropomorphic characters, LOL. Yes, that pun WAS intended. Apparently, Internet Rule #34 also applies.... (If it exists, there is....)

Kids? What kids? And what partner? Or were you referring to that plot hook from the comics I mentioned. Don't think that ever went anywhere, or that it was ever even confirmed one way or the other before the Mirage comic's run (ie- vol 4 of the main sereies) ended. However, there WAS one "secret" issue written and printed (only 50 copies, AFAIK) right before Mirage stopped doing them. It was an in-house "joke" issue that was done by one of the writers and artists as a going-away gag gift to the rest of the team.

I only know about it because one of the writers involved was a poster on the Technodrome Forums fan-site where I've been finding some of my info on the various series and comics, etc. The issue was titled "The Birds and the Bees and the Turtles", and had some VERY questionable (and hilariously raunchy) material. While it is not well-known, it IS considered "official" material. (Non-canon, but still...) Only the writing, artistic, and editorial staff got copies, and most kept theirs, but a few have been sold since, mostly to collectors who want "complete" collections- and who possibly have NO class.... I've only seen a couple of pages of it, but what I DID see was enough to make Jenna Jameson blush! Yeah, they went there....

Yeah, you posted the link a while back, and I've read some of it. Not bad, but I'm not usually into that sort of thing- unless I'M writing it, LOL!!!

And for a quick update- YES, there IS another ish (or two) coming! Have it up in a jiffy!! And we'll be seeing what transpired from HIS pov! (Along with some more action and a new twist...)

Posted by: Feral Female Mar 28 2013, 02:55 AM
Very enjoyable couple of issues!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Mar 28 2013, 03:29 PM
Thanks! I hope everyone enjoyed meeting Casey! He's a bit hard to pin down at first, but he's going to be showing up a lot more often now that he's "back in town". He's one of my fave (non-NT) characters from the T-verse. Usagi is another. I LOVE that rabbit!! And trust me when I say that HIS appearance will have you in stitches! (We're going to be seeing some of that "joker" side of Mikey in the next few chapters....) Also, there are some MAJOR developments on the way that will cause problems for everyone involved, and a twist that is going to complicate things in a BIG way. Let's just say that there's a change in the status-quo coming soon.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Apr 1 2013, 01:38 PM
Remember what I said about that "change" in the stauts quo? Here it comes! Get ready for a HUGE twist. Well, okay, maybe not HUGE, but it's going to mean some big changes in the lives of these heroes. And- more action!!! Yay! I know we all love the action scenes, and we get another guest appearance! This time, it's a villain.... MWAHAHAHAH..... Kidding. Enjoy.

Posted by: Feral Female Apr 1 2013, 03:04 PM
Great issue of TMNT Ducks!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Apr 1 2013, 03:18 PM
Thanks most kindly, ma'am. I hope this isn't going to cause any of those pesky Luke/Leia debates later on.... You know, the ones about THAT KISS?! Nah, didn't think so. But there are going to be some interesting developments coming out of this. And we'll see what happens when someone gets a little TOO friendly for comfort. Oh yeah, and then there's that little matter of the sketchbook to deal with. Wonder what she'll find?

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Apr 8 2013, 01:33 PM
News flash! a new ish of Love is Shell will be up very soon! There are some mysterious green shapes lurking about in the shadows around here- but they're quick, so you gotta keep your eyes open to spot 'em!

Posted by: Feral Female Apr 8 2013, 03:40 PM
Sounds like the TMNT family is growing closer. Nice ish!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Apr 8 2013, 03:56 PM
Hee-hee! Maybe closer than SOME of them might think.... The next couple are going to get a LOT darker and more *ahem* adult, though. You have all been warned......

Posted by: Feral Female Apr 15 2013, 02:30 AM
So she finally sees what we all saw? This could certainly be an interesting relationship if she decided to go that way. Nicely done, Ducks!

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Apr 15 2013, 07:45 PM
Lol, thanks!! Yeah, sometimes you've got to be beaten over the head with it before you notice the writing on the wall, as it were. Well, we can all guess where this is going to lead eventually, of ocurse. The problem now is- how or even IF it will go the way we all HOPE it will.....

Posted by: Gorvar Apr 22 2013, 05:48 AM
Mickey deserves some happiness, cant be like darktruth and have your characters miserable after two chapters.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Apr 22 2013, 06:38 PM

Heh. Just wait.... It ain't all lolipops and rainbows from here! e5802.gif There's plenty of action and drama still to come!

Posted by: Feral Female Apr 23 2013, 02:30 AM
Aww, that was a sweet ish. Methinks she might have feelings for the young man - erm - turtle.

Posted by: Gorvar Apr 23 2013, 03:15 PM
Turtle in a half shell, i might add.

Posted by: MsMarvelDuckie Apr 23 2013, 05:22 PM
In a half-shell? That would actually be oysters, if I'm not mistaken. (Hmm, aren't they supposed to be an aphrodisiac? Don't tell Mikey!) They DO have full shells- it's just that the "bottom" half is greatly reduced, LOL! And we just might see more on this matter later on, especially the difficulties of dealing with a completely unique physiology in regards to injuries and the like.

Doing some digging led me to discover the skill-sets each of them possess individually, and I was surprised to learn that apparently, Mikey is (supposesdly) the only one with any first aid training. I found that odd, as it's really more up Don's alley of science and medicine. However, I will note that at least in the movies, Leo knows CPR (used it on the boy Yoshi in the third film) so I'd expect he would have taught it to all of the others as well. Being the chemist that he is, Don is probably more likely to know about diseases and such, and with his engineering and microbiology genius he would probably also know how to build and operate x-ray machines, do bloodwork, etc. That would make Mikey the "field medic" if anything. Simple first aid, and probably not much more.

Feral, I'd have to say he's both. That's the main issue in this tale, for obvious reasons. It's that dual nature of man/beast that makes their relationship so unlikely, and which is the cause of MOST of the angst and drama here. In fact, that very duality of their nature will come into play before long- in some surprising and unexpected ways! I had originally penned- or TYPED (on my old Brother WP machine) this bit as simply having her wake up on the couch after spending the night, and finding him having fallen asleep with his head beside hers while sitting on the coffee table- though it was somewhat later in the story, after a very traumatic event (which we will see later) that left her very vulnerable. The little family moment with the other brothers is new. I added it to give them a little more depth (and because they were all bugging me to give them more "screen time"!) and show what a typical morning with them might be like.
