The Dark Knight - Prologue
Gotham City, 12 AM –
Commissioner Jim Gordon stood surveying the scene at hand as he wiped his dirty unshaven face. 15 had been counted dead with another five in critical condition. Just looking at those that had been killed made Gordon want to be sick, but he found that his body had adapted. Taking a few steps forward he came to a stop next to a women who was studying one of the victims.
“ What’ve you got Detective?” Gordon asked as Anna Ramirez raised her head. Ever since the trouble with the Joker Gordon had taken a special interest in watching her. Taking a deep breath Ramirez stood up, and could only offer him a shrug.
“ It’s the same exact scene as the other two.” She replied wiping off the dirt from her jacket. “ Two gangs meeting, and fighting. Both sides took loses, and ran off before we got here.” She added as Gordon nodded. Had it not been for a certain person he met over a year, and a half ago Jim would have believed what Ramirez said, but instinct told him otherwise. Making his way through the chaos Gordon walked to some crates where it appeared bullets had been fired.
“ Ten bucks he had something to do with it.” One officer whispered as Gordon acted he wasn’t listening. The officer next to him looked shocked as they picked up all the weapons that had been dropped.
“ The Batman?” He asked in a hushed tone. Now Gordon came to a halt, as he wanted to hear the rest of this. “ You really think he would kill all these guys?” He added as both of them stopped their work.
“ Come on look at the evidence.” The other officer stated. “ The guy killed Dent for crying out loud. What’s to stop him from killing some low life thugs.” He said, as his voice seemed to be rising with anger. Making a coughing noise both officers turned around sharply as Gordon looked at the night sky.
“ Why don’t you two take those over to Stephens?” He ordered pointing to the guns. Moving as quick as they could the two officers acted like scolded children as they practically ran off. All of the officers knew not to talk about Batman in front of Gordon. The news had spread faster than lighting on how Batman had captured Gordon’s, and how the noble Harvey Dent had tried to save them.
“ You’re really playing this up aren’t you?” A dark voice spoke from the shadows. Not acting like he heard the voice Gordon walked behind the crates, and watched the traffic going by.
“ I seem to recall this being your idea.” Gordon answered as the masked figure stepped out from the shadows. “ Besides people seem to like me more since I declared you a menace to the city.” He said trying to lighten the mood, and failing as Batman watched the paramedics take away the dead bodies.
“ Five gang fights in less than two weeks.” Batman muttered turning back to Gordon. “ This is the aftershock of Joker.” He added keeping a steady gaze on Gordon. The commissioner wiped off some sweat from his forehead as he sighed.
“ It’s not like we both didn’t see this coming.” Gordon shot-back keeping a cool tone he hated how much he was supposed to hate the man that saved his family. “ With Dent gone whatever remains of the mob is trying to claim what’s left.” He finished as an officer shouted for his name.
“ You still driving that cycle thing?” He asked turning around to see that once again the caped crusader had vanished into the night.

The Dark Knight # 1
The Next Day –
Wayne Penthouse
“ Master Bruce as you know how much I hate waking you up from another late night out I must remind you of your board meeting today.” Alfred states as he taps on the shoulder of his employer. Only being answered by groans, and moans Alfred lets a smile come over his face as he walks out of the bedroom. Opening his eyes Bruce Wayne lets out a massive yawn as he sits up in bed. He had stayed well into the early hours of the morning studying the scenes from each of the gang fights. Unfortunately he had hit a wall just like the police did. Forcing himself out of bed Bruce walked over to his closet as he filed through what suit to wear to yet another dull meeting.
“ Shall I call for your driver Master Bruce?” Alfred asked in the next room as Bruce finished with his tie. Looking at himself in the mirror Bruce fixed his hair as he made his way over to the elevator.
“ Alfred I would be lost without you.” Bruce joked as the elevator doors closed.
Wayne Enterprises –
“ As you all can see.” Lucius Fox stated pointed to the newest numbers for Wayne Enterprises. “ Since we paid for the reconstruction of Gotham General Hospital over two months ago, Wayne Enterprises has seen a jump in revenues.” Fox added as the board gives their approving nods. Taking a glance down the table Fox notices a rich playboy who is skimming over what appears to be layouts for something.
“ Also to end today’s meeting tomorrow Gotham General is reopening the hospital, and naming a ward after Mr. Wayne.” Fox stated getting a look of surprise from Bruce, which he was hoping for. As the board packed up their bags, and made their exit Bruce slowly made his way over to Fox.
“ Don’t tell me. Late night.” Fox commented as he loosened up his tie. Turning away from Bruce, Fox walked over to his desk. “ I do hope that you’ll at least be able to show up tomorrow.” Fox added as he turned back around. The sight he saw was in a way somewhat poetic. Bruce had his arm leaning against the window looking down at the city below. Often over the time since Lucius met the new Bruce he has wanted nothing more than for people to see the true man behind the mask Bruce Wayne wore.
“ I’ll be there, but the main reason I showed up today was to check in on that special project we talked about.” Bruce replied with a little grin. Rubbing his forehead Lucius chuckled a little as he led Bruce behind his desk.
“ You know when I showed you, your bat mobile I never thought you would blow it up.” Lucius said sarcastically. Pulling out a key from his pocket he unlocked a drawer, and opened it to reveal a layout of sorts.
“ Well what can I say?” Bruce began as Lucius opened the plans, and let Bruce study them. “ Sometimes I feel the urge to drive in front of a bazooka.” He added as Lucius saw the papers in his hands.
“ I see you’ve also been working on things while running from the cops.” Lucius said pointing at the papers. Gesturing for Bruce to hand them over he opened them up, and let a little laugh come out.
“ Planning on flying someplace soon?” He asked as Bruce grabbed a chair nearby.
“ Just looking to expand my arsenal.” Bruce answered cracking his fingers quickly. “ Do you think you have something like this?” He asked. Rubbing his chin Lucius looked over the plans again.
“ I think I can help you out Mr. Wayne.” He stated.
Later that night –
“ I’m telling you I don’t like this.” One thug muttered as their car came to a halt outside of the dirty warehouse. “ Ever since the stuff with the Joker went down guys like us haven’t been able to meet anywhere without shooting each other.” The thug added as they slowly stepped out of their cars. Without even thinking they both pulled out their weapons, and made sure they were loaded.
“ Shut your whining mouth.” The other hissed as they made their way towards the doors. Pulling out a piece of paper the thug lightly tapped on the door. “ We haven’t had any good work to do either since the Joker got busted.” He added as a small slat in the door opened.
“ Speak the code.” The eyes behind the door stated. Looking down at the paper he was holding the thug quickly read it.
“ Janus.” The thug stated as good as he could. The slat closed quickly as the door opened very slowly creaking as it did so.
“ What the hell does Janus mean?” The second thug asked as the two walked inside to nothing more than blackness. The other thug gave him a look to shut-up as they followed a path that a single light was illuminating. As they walked they passed over thugs, and each of them having the same exspression of wondering what was going to take place here. Without warning a small hanging light was lit on the second level where everyone worked. A long figure wearing a trench coat, and a hat, which covered the rest of his face which made him that more mysterious.
“ Greetings pathetic dogs.” The figure said drawing a string of shouts from the thugs below. Raising a gun into the air the man fired it off silencing them like children. “ Don’t argue the truth. I’ve seen what the once powerful thugs of Gotham have become. Nothing more than packs of dog fighting for nothing more than the smallest crumb.” The figure added as he pulled out a hundred dollar bill, and dropped it to the floor below. Before it even hit the ground three men rushed forward, and began fighting like lunatics over the bill. Aiming his gun down the figure fired his weapon three times creating a bloody mess of the former three thugs. Murmurs of shock came from the ground level as everyone took steps back.
“ Not to worry everyone.” The figure commented. “ Those three were garbage bags from Arkham. Now back to the matter at hand. Thanks to the chaos that the clown left behind we now have a time to strike.” The figure added.
“ What about Batman?” A thug asked from below.
“ What about him?” The figure answered. “ Please don’t tell me that you all haven’t been watching the news or reading the papers?” He asked sounding ashamed. “ The Batman is being hunted down for killing Dent.” He finished.
“ Why should we listen to you?” Another thug shouted. Rubbing his forehead the figure sighed as he snapped his fingers together. All of the lights came to life as all the thugs in the room looked around. Masked men were covering the entire perimeter holding machine guns.
“ Because. I said so.” The figure ended his speech.

Yeah, maybe the speech of the villain (I think I know who he is... but I wont say any names yet) could have been developed further, but never mind. The idea is there, and it is really cool... [smooth;

The Dark Knight # 2
Gotham City 3 AM –
“ You sure we’re ok?” The ski-masked figure asked as he moved the unconscious security guard into the shadows of the alley. “ I mean I knew a guy that knew a guy that got busted by the bat.” He added shaking with fear.
“ Dude trust me.” His bunny masked friend replied as he filled up their truck with money from the convenient store they busted. “ The worst we could have to deal with is Gotham PD.” He commented loading up the last bag. Another of their friends ran from the darkness of the alley with a look of pure joy on his face.
“ I just capped the other security guard!” He shouted holding his gun like it was a lost artifact. “ Just held the gun to his head, and…” He added making a popping sound. The guy in the ski mask made a motion that he was going to be sick while the other gave him a high-five. As the three of them made sure they left nothing behind one walked back to the alley. Looking around he made sure that the security guards wouldn’t be found so easily. A sharp pain filled his back as he was flung high into the air. Screaming in terror the other two guys looked around horrified holding their guns out.
“ No freakin way!” The bunny masked man shouted as something shot across him knocking him to the ground. The ski mask man turned to make a run for it when he slammed into something hard, and fell to the ground. Feeling dazed someone grabbed the guy by the shirt collar, and hoisted him into the air.
“ Please don’t kill me!” The guy screamed, as he knew without a doubt who was holding him up.
“ Like you killed that guard!” Batman roared into the guy’s face. Feeling that he had just wet his pants the guy squirmed to be set free. “ Who’re you working for?” Batman added slamming the guy against the hard brick wall.
“ I…don’t know…. honestly…. this was my first time out…I swear.” The guy answered as tears poured from his eyes. A siren filled the air as Batman turned to look down the alley as two cop cars appeared.
“ You don’t want to go down this path.” He hissed at the guy as he dropped him to the ground. “ Learn your lesson, and don’t screw up again.” He added as the cops now saw him.
“ It’s Batman!” One shouted as he took out his gun. “ Call backup ASAP tell them Batman is beating up an innocent citizen.” The cop added as when the guy looked up Batman had vanished. Jumping across the rooftop Batman could already here the helicopters coming in.
“ Seems they’re getting quicker each time Master Bruce.” Alfred said over a communicator. Tapping a button on his arm Batman signaled for his Bat-Pod to meet him three blocks from his current position.
“ Can you pick up their radio communications?” Batman asked as he barely made the jump from another rooftop. A helicopter whizzed by him overhead as Batman rolled behind a sign as searchlights nearly spotted him.
“ Well that depends on what button I have to press.” Alfred replied as Batman dropped down into the alley below. “ You never really showed me how to work these devices.” Alfred added with a tone of sarcasm. More cop cars flew by as Batman hopped onto his Bat-pod. Brining it to life batman drove it straight into the street as he silently followed a cop car. He often had wondered lately if the sacrifice was worth the misery he was going through now.
“ Ah I believe I have it now Master Bruce.” Alfred commented as Batman began to pick up police chatter. “ From what I’ve been able to hear it seems that another gang fight is taking place near the docks.” He added as Batman made a sharp turn, and brought the Bat-Pod up to full speed.
“ Repeat we have three more officers on their way to the docks.” A police dispatcher said catching Batman’s attention. “ Commissioner Gordon is already on the scene, and checking for any sign of The Batman.” The dispatcher added as Batman drove the bat-pod along the side of a building.
Gotham Docks –
“ 12 dead, and we still have no idea who did it.” Gordon muttered to himself as he yet again walked amongst the pile of dead bodies. He swore when his car pulled up he heard gunfire, but when he reached the location it was like nothing more than an empty graveyard. Kicking dirt around Gordon made his way back to his car when he heard a shout.
“ Commissioner!” Ramirez shouted making Gordon jump a little. Making a 180 he pulls out his weapon without thinking. “ You might want to take a look at this!” She adds as Gordon rounds one of the buildings on the dock. Spotting Ramirez hovering over two dead bodies Gordon gave a sigh of relief, and put his gun away.
“ What is it Detective?” He asked coming to stand a few feet away. From his point of view he couldn’t see anything due to the shadows covering the faces of the victims. Pointing her flashlight down Gordon realized that it wasn’t shadows covering the victim’s faces, but black spray paint.
“ What is he doing now playing jokes on us?” Ramirez asked as Gordon studied the paint. From a certain point of view one could see the paint having been sprayed like a mask. “ Did he pick up on some of the Joker’s lunacy?” She states as she walks off to talk this out with other officers.
“ Is this the first time?” The voice asks, as Gordon doesn’t even jump. Staying in his position he only nods.
“ None of the others have had it.” He answers as Batman appears next to him. He looks tired as he drops to a knee. “ Still we don’t even have anything to go on. I thought the mob was still in chaos from the Joker.” Gordon admitted.
“ This was apart of Joker’s plan.” Batman stated as he found something interesting a few feet away from the victim. “ Destroy the mob from within, and open it for someone else to pick up the pieces.” He adds as he picks up a can of black spray paint.
“ A little careless considering this is the first bit of evidence at any scene.” Gordon claims as Batman places it in a bag.
“ Whoever’s running the mob now doesn’t have the talent Joker did.” Batman said darkly. “ He’s using no more than teenagers, and what Arkham lunatics are still out there.” He adds.
“ We don’t even know if these attacks are just fronts.” Gordon shot-back placing his hands in his pockets. “ For all we know the mob has all their heavy hitters planning something huge.” Gordon added turning around to see that once again that Batman had vanished.
franshux - August 10, 2008 09:12 PM (GMT)
Really cool man... and now I know who the villain is! I was mistaken at first, but now I know :P
