I picked it up on saturday. I didn't really get in to it at first but I stuck with it and I found that I couldn't put it down.

Is this the only volume out at the moment?

yep, first and only volume. it starts deceptively slow, but ennis hasn't failed me yet when it comes to this sort of genre. he did something similar on hitman.

here's the official solicit:

QUOTE
THIS IS GOING TO HURT! In a world where costumed heroes soar through the sky and masked vigilantes prowl the night, someone's got to make sure the "supes" don't get out of line. And someone will. Billy Butcher, Wee Hughie, Mother's Milk, The Frenchman and The Female are The Boys: A CIA backed team of very dangerous people, each one dedicated to the struggle against the most dangerous force on Earth-superpower. Some superheroes have to be watched. Some have to be controlled. And some of them-sometimes-need to be taken out of the picture That's when you call in THE BOYS.

it's kinda like stormwatch team archilles, a team of non-superpowered operatives keeping superheroes in line. but funnier.

Lockheed - May 11, 2008 12:13 PM (GMT)
The Boys

Rogue - May 12, 2008 10:24 AM (GMT)
The only thing I don't really like about it is the fact that Wee Hughie is Simon Pegg, and if they make a movie they will put Simon Pegg in it. :xy:

Still cool news tho

yes, it looks like it. vol 2 isn't bad, just that it isn't as good as vol 1.

Adam Synapse - June 14, 2008 01:20 PM (GMT)
Believe it or not I found me a copy of volume one. Im at a lost. The story was good, intriguing and the concept alone earned it points along with the fact it found a way to involve Simon Pegg which, lets face it, every other comic needs now and then and yet...I found it was reaching for straws. As if it was going out of its way in order to be excessivly violent, which in moderation can be done to great effect but this well it kinda took the cake and of course that entire sequence about forcing a woman to give three men oral sex or leave, combining the fact that this was coming from a Superman analogue no doubt, was something that really didnt sit well with me.

Call me a conservative but the redeeming qaulity of this book was the story proper and the humour. Not something i'd plan to read twice

im sorry KC

kacangpool - June 14, 2008 01:49 PM (GMT)
heh no worries, adam. maybe the book appeals better to the depraved. :lollol:

The Joker - June 15, 2008 04:24 PM (GMT)
I find Ennis' use of curse words and ultra violence forced as well...

Hey KC check this out:

Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay will adapt The Boys for Columbia Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Neal H. Moritz and his Columbia-based Original Films are producing the project, which adapts the comic book created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

The comic follows the adventures of a CIA squad, known informally as "the boys," whose job is to keep watch on the proliferation of superheroes and, if necessary, intimidate or eliminate them.

Manfredi and Hay also wrote the comic book adaptation R.I.P.D., which is in development at Universal.

but without the blood and gore and gratuitous sex scenes, it wouldn't feel like the book. :lollol: wonder who'd play the female ... someone short and nondescript - janeane garofalo maybe.
