Hopefully I am doing this right as I have trouble posting online (social phobias and all that).
I got into comics a few years ago... by which I mean about two or three when I discovered Marvel Unlimited Digital Subscription.
But I always found the timelines hard to follow. I never could figure out how Wolverine could be in nearly every comic... and I've read ALL the available X-Men comics online.
So I developed the following site:Marvel Timeline
If you look at the site you can see that it lets you view the comics by year, month or even day... I don't recommend using the day version though as it takes a long time to process.
But the data isn't complete, there are lots of missing features AND it could use a good coat of paint.
So here is why I am posting here:
1) I wrote the basic site in php. It's free and easy to use. The timeline itself is a jQuery plugin I developed. If anyone is capable of improving the timeline plugin or the site code then please speak up. I have the timeline code on GitHub.https://github.com/mjimeyg/comparative-timeline
2) I am NOT a web designer. I like to program and have been doing it for years. If anyone can design a better site then great. What would be better is if someone could design and code a better site... maybe using something like the Smarty template system which I have used.
3) I have not read most of the comics written by Marvel... I never will. It is impossible for me to do so. If you have read a comic then please feel free to add it to the site. If the details for a currently listed comic are wrong then you can easily update it.
I suffer from agoraphobia (fear of the public to put it simply), I will try to answer questions but it would be helpful if someone could take over this project. I am happy to host is on my web servers and keep handling the costs but social interaction is difficult for me.
I started this project and envisioned it as a community endeavour. I would hate to see it die but am more than happy to see others take it and run with it.
The code is written to be generic so the site can be duplicated and re-designed for DC Comics as well.
Thanks for reading!
