Sons of Anarchy Cut

The “cut” is SOA’s uniform. It’s a leather jacket (though originally denim) with the collar and sleeves cut off, giving it a vest-like shape and then adorned with very specific club patches.

For MC members, cuts are the ultimate symbol of their dedication to the club — the brotherhood that they cherish above all else. They are sacred. The patches always remain property of the club itself, not the individual member. They are passed on through generations of members. Only members are allowed to wear a club’s colors.

On the back, each cut has a three-piece patch: the club logo in the center, with one patch on top and one on the bottom that are crescent-shaped and known as the rockers. SoA’s logo is A GRIM REAPER: Who holds a crystal ball showing the anarchist “A” in one hand, and a Scythe in the other that has the body of an M-16. The rockers have blue letters with white background. The upper rocker reads: SONS OF ANARCHY. The lower reads: CALIFORNIA.

On the left breast of the cut there’s a charter patch. The mother chapter's charter patch reads: REDWOOD ORIGINAL. The nickname of this charter is SAMCRO and stands for “Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original.” For the Long Beach charter, it simply reads: LONG BEACH with CALIFORNIA underneath.

It is common for some cuts to have territory patches along their sides, to further distinguish or represent what charter the territory belongs to, such as Jax's vest which reads "SAMCRO". For Long Beach members, this would instead read "THE LBC".

Other SoA affiliated Patches:

Reaper Crew (This patch indicates the wearer has physically fought and possibly caused a death in defending themselves, the club or club members)

Men of Mayhem (Earned by having carried out murder in the name of the club)

Unholy Ones (Given to longstanding members, those who will "fight to the last breath" or die SoA. It is either achieved by fifteen years with the club, or having carried out a minimum of ten murders for the club)

First 9 (original members ONLY)

M-16 Scythes- Instead of Wings, as most clubs award their members, the Sons instead award small M-16 Scythe patches, some with different colors of blood on the blade to highlight different achievements by club members.

-Black- Indicates an enforcer for the club/having enforced for the club
-Red- Having killed a snitch/witness against the club
-Green- Having earned a large or respectable amount of money for the club
-Blue- Having served time in prison for the club. Each individual blue scythe indicates up to five years.

Another popular custom for MCs is to wear patches displaying the memories of fallen friends and brothers of the club, as seen in this Mongols MC cut

One patch that is not present among the Sons of Anarchy cut is the popular "1%" patch worn by many outlaw motorcycle gangs. Since most normal motorcycle gangs, such as HOG (Harley Owners group) do not use the "MC" patch, the Sons feel that it distinguishes them enough while not drawing unwanted attention to their club.

Many, but not all members of the club have a tattoo on their back to display their Sam Crow pride. It is identical to the design located on the club member's cuts, and as such, it is only permitted for full patch members to get the tattoo.

A member can only get a club tattoo one year after being patched in, but a member must put in ten years with the club before they can take on the above insignia.

Anyone with the tattoo wrongfully, or members that have been stripped of their patches and colors must remove the tattoo, either by getting it lasered off or blackening it out. Failure to do so will result in harsh punishment, such as burning or cutting the tattoo off.
