CHARACTER SWAP

Jake's statement was enough to anger both Venom and Eddie but with a good amount of arguing between thoughts Eddie regain their composure and looked to Jake. He was through answering their questions and he knew it would anger Venom cause them to lash out. What he didn't know was that upon rejoining the two shared control instead of being solely one or the other. Venom moved away from Jake and to the other side of his precious motorcycle, placing a hand upon the handlebars.

"It wasn't what we were looking for but we will accept the fact that you have answered our other questions. We even understand what it means not to turn in a friend, especially when there is evidence placing you as an accomplice. It might be best if SHIELD handles their own affairs but what we find curious is this," Venom said as he paused to look Jake over. He knew if he attacked him that those agents couldn't be too far. He may have been a brute but he wasn't an idiot.

"What we find curious is why; why would you tell this to us when it shines a light upon you aiding Goldman? For all purposes we could turn the evidence over to SHIELD and should Goldman commit an act against Kerrigan it would fall on your shoulders as well," Venom said looking to Jake. They knew that it was going to come to a fight, what they wanted however was to catch him off guard.

At least, Jake knew what loyalty meant to Venom as both men stood there. There was no fault in the logic of saving Edwin's butt, but there was another motive as to why Jake decided to do what he did, and it actually made a little bit of sense. He watched closely as he watched the symbiotic brute made his way towards his Harley. Not a very wise move, but Jake kept himself calm as he talked to Venom. "The reason is this. If Goldman is wrong, then I'll answer to my crimes along with him and his associates. It's something that I have been thinking about for a while. However, if he's right, then the world will be a better place once the truth is exposed. Will I take credit for it? No, because it's not in my nature. But, I will be satisfied."

Once Venom laid his claws on his motorcycle, the gloves were slowly coming off. Jake never sunk his powers back within his soul, so he was ready to ignite his hands again, if need be. No one touches his Harley, and that meant no body. However, Jake said it in a calm manner. "Hey. Hands off the bike."

Venom knew it had come to an end but he also knew that Jake had more information he could be forced to give up. Venom nodded to Jake as he made his comments, knowing all too well it was like to defend somebody. Like he protected Toxin from Carnage. Venom had other things in mind however, he wanted all the information that Jake had wrapped up inside that tiny little brain of his and he was going to get it. If Robin Hood didn't return and they handled this fast then no one would even know what happened.

"We were just admiring it, Agent Mitchell," Venom said as his claw wrapped tightly around the handlebar. "The paint job is magnificent, here have a look!" Venom roared as the bike soared over his arm and was swung down in Fulfiller's general direction. If he hit Fulfiller hard enough he could have just knocked him out but if he missed, well he'd have to wrap this up quickly.

He had left the Quinjet almost immediately upon hearing Jake's admission, knowing he had assisted Goldman at all, that was reason enough to personally step back into the matter. Though he had to admire the man's loyalty to his former mentor and old friend, aiding a terrorist was the same as being one in the eyes of SHIELD, and Jake had aided the man SHIELD was after. When he finally found himself back at the scene, he noticed Venom toy with Jake's bike, knowing this wouldn't end well. Before Venom even threw the bike, and arrow was flying through the air, aimed to hit the ground directly in front of the man. Barton hadn't been standing still while he fired, and was already making a mad dash towards Jake, diving through the air to tackle the man out of the way.

As the arrow hit the ground, it exploded, shrouding Venom's field of vision with a light blanket of smoke. The bike had hit it's target, but unfortunately for Venom, the victim was no longer in the target spot. Once the smoke cleared, Venom would notice an arrow As Venom had said himself, Jake was an agent of SHIELD, and it was best that SHIELD handled their own affairs. If Venom took him in, then he'd have a war on his hands, a war he had stared himself. Conflict already existed between HAMMER and SHIELD, and should HAMMER take in a SHIELD agent for questioning, then that would quite possibly be the last straw in the tension. Quickly he formed a plot in his head, one that might convince Venom to simply let them leave, and one that might also give the man reason to forget Jake's aiding Goldman.

"Stand down Venom, Jake Mitchell is an agent of SHIELD, and it will be SHIELD that handled the matter of him aiding Goldman. Now, I think it would be best if you return to HAMMER and tell them what you found out tonight, but you're going to leave out the part about Jake aiding Goldman. I'm asking this as agent to agent, and though I know you'd like nothing more than to bring Jake in, I can assure you SHIELD will handle this matter personally." Just like his words, his tone carried the professional attitude he wanted to give, and turned to Jake.

"Just go along with it, we'll talk back at the Quinjet, trust me." The words were whispered, quiet enough that even Jake would have to truly pay attention to to hear. As he spoke, he had turned Jake around and grabbed a pair of handcuffs from his back pocket. His handcuffs were standard issue, nothing meant to dampen powers or even restrict them, but he hoped Jake would trust him for the time being. Turning Jake around to Venom, his hand moved to rest on the agent's shoulders, and he just looked back at the symbotic man.

"I trust you'll allow me to take him in for questioning?" It was all he said, all that needed to be said, and with it was a tone that hoped for no further conflict.

Oh crap.

Jake started to see his life flash before his eyes as he saw Venom raise his Harley up in the air, ready to slam it upon his head. He was about to make a dodging move to avoid the contact, but that wasn't necessary. Someone had decided to save his bacon by tackling him to the ground, avoiding not only the motorcycle, but the smoke-filled arrow that was apparently in between himself and Venom. Talk about small miracles in the nick of time.

The Harley got smashed into the ground, but at least, Jake was still alive to make himself a new one. His eyes looked to see not only Hawkeye there, but the listening chip that got dislodged from his coat during the fall. Jake's eyes lit up once he saw the chip and knew that Hawkeye knows everything now from his conversation with Venom. If the archer went to Hill with this info, Jake's career might as well be over at this point, and he would accept that fate. He said it himself. In any event, he would deal with that later. Right now, he and Hawkeye had a raging symbiote to deal with.

However, just as Jake got up and was ready to ignite his hands to begin his response towards his Harley getting smashed, Hawkeye began to talk to Venom to calm this situation. As Jake listened, he knew that his career was over. He would have to pick out a successor to become the new leader of the MTF and of the Pro-Active squad, and he would go it under the eyes of Hill and the rest of SHIELD. This was going to be so bad as he was about to be disgraced in front of the world, but suddenly, something changed all that. Hawkeye whispered in Jake's ear about talking things over in the Quinjet, and maybe, just maybe, there was some hope.

As Hawkeye placed a pair of handcuffs on Jake, his eyes switched back to normal to make it seem like the archer placed on a pair of negation cuffs to shut his powers down. A sharp shiver from his body would do the trick. With himself now in SHIELD custody, Jake looked towards Venom as he knew that the HAMMER Agent was just outsmarted, even though he didn't show it. He struggled to try and get himself out of the cuffs, but that was to keep the act up. He was willing to leave with Hawkeye, knowing that his life was just saved.

Fury, anger; these were the things Venom was feeling and it could be seen by the two before him. The symbiote was feeding on Eddie's rage and in doing so his muscle mass began to grow, almost disproportional in his torso region. Venom liked where this was going wanting nothing more than to rip the two half and hide them all over the Earth. Eddie however knew what it would mean to attack them both right here right now. It would place him in a very tight position with HAMMER, and possibly lead to an arrest by SHIELD. Venom shook his head as Eddie sated the beast within; their muscles returning to their natural state.

"We understand, you may apprehend him and place him in SHIELD custidy, but," Venom paused as he turned his attention to Fulfiller. "Should we catch him out of SHIELD headquarters without proper restraints he will be placed under HAMMER supervision. Do you understand?" Venom said as he leaped from the ground and into a nearby tree. With a sinister grin, Venom turned to face the two as he spoke loud enough for them too hear.

"Also, if he is not reported to SHIELD commanding officers as he should be, then we will pursue matters further when we return to our headquarters," Venom said as he began jumping from tree to tree returning to the airport. Holding the tape recorder between his hands he could do nothing more than smile. He had done as Ares asked for one member, a confession of aiding Goldman through use of SHIELD intelligence. If that wasn't worth its weight in gold they didn't know what was. Things had gone better than they could have imagined.

"Here, I'll even report him right now." He was serious, and he just stared at Venom, then turned to Jake as his hand went up to 'touch' his earpiece. "Director Hill, this is Agent Barton, I need a cell ready for when I return to the Hellicarrier. I've got a mutant prisoner, Jake Mitchell, who has confessed to assisting Edwin Goldman."

Of course, to both Jake and Venom it would appear as if he had reported to Director Hill, but he had never hit the button on his earpiece. No, he wanted to get a few answers himself before he really turned the man in, and he turned around with Jake and walked off. He kept silence between himself and Jake, not wanting to reveal the truth behind the event to him just yet, knowing Venom could potentially still be around. Upon arriving to the Quinjet, Clint led him inside, and turned to Jake and he sealed the door. After the door had sealed, he removed the cuffs, and moved to the cockpit.

"Tell me, the information you gave Goldman, was it a false lead? I know SHIELD has no real information concerning Kerrigan's schedule, but due to the nature of your powers, I see it as plausible that you 'stalked' her for the information." He didn't hide the accusation from his tone, and he took a seat in the pilot's chair, spinning it around to watch Jake.

As Jake watched Venom disappear into the night sky, he knew that God must have a plan for him or he might have been food for the symbiote's appetite. It was the biggest bullet that he dodged, and he would forever be grateful for Hawkeye's assistance in his escape. However, just because he was still alive doesn't mean that he was out of the woods yet. He knew that he would have to answer to Hawkeye since he heard the entire conversation, and that would be handled in the same way that Jake did with Venom.

The Quinjet was in sight, and Jake was happy with that flying jet in his eyes. He was close to going home and forgetting about this whole mess, but it wasn't over yet. Once the two were inside, Jake felt some relief to himself as he felt the handcuffs undone by his fellow Agent. He started to rub his sore wrists while turning to see Hawkeye, knowing that he wanted answers as well. Exhaling a deep breath, Jake spoke out. "They weren't false, but I didn't use my powers to get what I needed. I use one of SHIELD's spy satellites to get surveillance on Kerrigan, then I made a list of times and places that she went to and handed it to Goldman. I didn't put any of the data on any drives or disks because of tracking, so I wrote them down instead. That's my only involvement."

"You know I'll have to eventually report to Director Hill about this, but for now I'll let you continue your little investigation, but don't make contact with Goldman. If that happens, there will be no choice but to arrest you, and through you arrest Goldman. I'd advice you to stay in the Mutant Task Force HQ, as I think we're both certain Venom wouldn't hesistate to fight you the next time you meet, which I've got a feeling he'll be monitoring for." He spoke as if issuing an order, and turned around in the pilot's chair, starting up the Quinjet and setting it's auto-pilot for the Mutant Task Force HQ.

He was glad he ran into Fulfiller before arriving, this way he could avoid the private meeting before meeting the entire team, as he felt it was only right the leader got wind of his new assignment before the team as a whole. He knew his team would have questions, and he wanted their leader to be able to answer them, instead of looking like the unknowing fool and having the same questions. He got out of the pilot's chair, headed to the back of the Quinjet, and sat opposite Fulfiller. He wasn't sure exactly how well this man knew Director Hill, but he knew Director Hill didn't like super at all, rather it be mutant or capes. Barton knew his assignment was handed to put a 'regular' agent as head of the Mutant Task Force, but he knew he could put a positive spin on it, and avoid complete conflict between Hill and Mitchell from arising.

"Director Hill wants me to be the new liason between the Mutant Task Force and her, and this is being done so the public see the Mutant Task Force as a team of mutants that are there to protect them, rather than a group of mutants that are still dangerous and don't have to report to anyone. As leader of the Mutant Task Force, I figured you should be the first to know, as I've got the feeling the majority of your team won't be happy to hear this." He hoped Fulfiller didn't react negatively towards this, and if he did, Hawkeye was prepared to do whatever neccesary to arrive at New York alive.

Jake nodded to Hawkeye as he knew that this 'house arrest' was for the betterment of bot men, as well as this situation that has grown out of control. There was no doubt that Venom was going to report what he learned to Ares, and soon enough, there will be a confrontation between SHIELD and HAMMER about what is to come. There was going to be some dark times ahead for Jake, and he knew it as much. His career was now on the line, as well as his life.

As the Quinjet took off from the airfield, Jake began to think of the possibilities of what would happen to him. If Hill did learn the truth, then SHIELD would be the least of his worries. However, there would be time to rectify things if Edwin can come up with the truth in time. He prayed that he did, or everyone in this plan was going to be screwed. However, what Hawkeye said next changed the subject real quick. A liaison? Jake knew that Hill didn't trust the superhero community, let alone mutants in general. He did feel that she did trust him in some respects for his leadership, but why would she put Hawkeye in this position? Something wasn't right.

"Really? Well, I will have to call a meeting with the group to introduce you to our affairs. And yes, the team will not be happy with this decision, but hopefully, we all can make this work. Hopefully, you'll survive the experience in order to get to know us. Jake was right about that. He knew his team, and they were not going to like what they are going to hear. To be honest, Jake didn't like it either. But, to continue to gain Hill's support, he and his team would have to go along with it.
