This is a question from my friend about MariMite.it's about Sei Satou.In my opinion,I think that Sei always love Shiori,and no one can change Shiori in her heart.That's why she was different in her 3rd year.But my my friend said that Sei has totally fallen in love with Shimako.So Sei really love Shimako,or Shimako was just an alternative?

Well first of to answer your question, Sei loved Shiori (yes, that's evident) but Sei ALSO loved Shimako. Madel is right about past and present.

First of, a little spoiler in the upcoming season, no biggie:

Besides that, in the novel, (not spoiler but skipped) Sei asked if Shimako wanted a kiss twice. One was after Shizuka's date, with Shimako kneeling to her. The 2nd was when it was snowing outside in Christmas, and Sei was asking Shimako if she wanted some of Shizuka's chocolates. (Shimako, of course, refused)

It's kinda like what she did to Shizuka, gave her a kiss.. Sei always asked Shimako, "Would you like me to kiss you to make you feel better?"

The thing is, just because you fell in love with someone new, doesn't mean you completely forgot your first love..

When I fell in love for the 2nd time, I was still feeling lonely about what happend to my 1st experience.. And for the 3rd time, I still remember the 1st and 2nd one.

It just goes to show that, all the people that have touched our hearts will forever be with us in a little corner wherever we go.. That's just the way it is.

I think the romantic aspect is there, but it's stronger on Shimako's part than Sei's. I think that's why she seemed so upset and doubtful after her date with Shizuka- she was torn between feelings for them both. I don't really get the feeling that either of these two would really pursue a romantic relationship with each other, because they simply understand each other too well. They're too alike, and they wouldn't really complement each other as a couple (this is where they differ from, for example, Yumi and Sachiko). I think they have this mutual understanding that their feelings for each other are intense, but should stay platonic. For all her flirting, I think Sei doesn't really want to drag Shimako into a similar scenario as her relationship with Shiori. She's happy for there to be an unspoken bond between them.

I don't think Sei ever had romantic feelings for Shimako. If you remember, Youko specifically says that Shimako resembles Sei and *not* Shiori (which implies what it does about their relationship) when Sei and Shiori remember how the two met. I also find the relationship between Shimako and Sei (a sort of restrained dependence) very different than the relationship Shimako has with Noriko (who I think Shimako has gone gaga for). I think throughout the first season, Sei had her head on Shiori. However, this Katou Kei person from second season onwards seems to be becoming a bit close to Sei, whatever that implies....

I certainly don't get the vibe from those two I get from Shimako and Noriko. There's some definite tension there.

There is some love between Sei and Shimako but I don't see it as romantic either (at least not from Sei. Shimako maybe a different story.) Then again, Shimako seems like an isolated person as far as who gets to be close to her. She chooses who she will get really attached to. Sei was one of them because they are alike. I think that attachment can turn into obsession and Sei saw this from her own experiences. Sei wants to guide Shimako so her footsteps won't be followed. I think Sei also wants the others to help Shimako get out of a rut and so she "disappeared" after graduation. Shimako is not ready to go on her two feet yet (showing how she broke down in season two before Noriko found her that one episode.) I bet Sei also wants to run to Shimako but then Sei wouldn't be escaping her past cycle either. They both have to move forward before they can see each other again.

As far as Shimako being in love with Noriko...I don't think that's quite the case either. Initially, Noriko was like a replacement for Sei and someone she could do what she couldn't do with Sei. Like Sei, it seemed like Noriko was Shimako's obsession. Luckily through some friend and Tsutako intervention she broke out of that obsession. Now Shimako is left with a strong bond for Noriko. To her, Noriko is her link to the school, someone that grounds her to people, the one she can connect to with no worries. I think Noriko is also the connection to Shimako's buddhist past that she still may give up.

I think Shimako loved many things but I don't think she was in love any of those times. I don't think her mentality was at that state yet. She had to connect with people first.

Sei knew better when Shimako came. Sei wasn't in love either but she does love Shimako enough to watch out for her behind the scenes.

Sei loved Shiori, we all know that. But I really don't think Sei is in love with Shimako. Shimako got Sei's attention because they're alike. I say Sei loves Shimako but not IN love, not like the love she had for Shiori.

yeah,just like JazVahn,I think so too.You all know that in Sei's 3rd schoolyear,she behaved totally different than the first two years.If Sei really love Shimako,then she must change,back to normal(for example).But she didn't.And Sei alwaus watches over Sgimako just because she cares 'bout Shimako,not because she was in love with her. :D

I don't think even if Sei loved Shimako that she would revert back to her old self. I think she has learned a hard life lesson after Shiori and I don't think she would approach her next relationship like that again.

shizukaxshimako=cookies it is like,look good and taste good but not to much
its all food with different name ,taste, fat, sugar and nutrition even level.

lol regarding seixshimako~ I think Sei did fall a little bit for Shimako. My guess is that as she walked into the chapel in that episode, she thought about how she wanted to and stopped because she wanted to. I actually like Sei x Shimako, because it's such an odd pairing :lol:

But eh, I think Shizuka is the best pair for Shimako o_0
