Title: Read First!
Description: How you can join the team...
Destroyer F - October 25, 2007 06:10 PM (GMT)
UPDATE: If you want to help out MP2D, progress at the moment is being done in the
Artifacts of the Month topic. You no longer have to show any previous work to join the team. Instead, you can simply start working on resources. Therefore, the rest of this post is outdated.

MP2D is recruiting! We're looking for new people who can help us out making various resources:
Graphics
----------
- sprites
- backgrounds
- art stuff (cutscenes, etc)
Audio
-------
- sound effects
- background music
Programming
----------------
- enemy AI
How can you join the team?
First, you sign up in the appropriate topic. Show us something you've made, this doesn't have to be metroid-related.
Several people will be assigned as 'recruiting judges'. These are the people that will decide if you qualify for the position you want.
Once you're qualified, you have to make something for mp2d, something we tell you to make. Once it's approved by the team, you're in!
Simple as that!
Any questions? Post them in this topic.
XMegadragon - October 26, 2007 01:38 AM (GMT)
Hehehe.

*runs far, far away*
Phazon Yoshi - October 26, 2007 08:16 AM (GMT)
Hooray!
Let's get it awn, folks!
(What A.i.s need doing?)
Redhalberd - October 26, 2007 06:33 PM (GMT)
On the real.
As far as recruiting, I don't think this would be a bad idea for a sig on other forums

: )
Something like that?
Troid92 - October 26, 2007 08:14 PM (GMT)
I think it sounds too desperate, and there should be more info about what MP2D actually is. It brings me to a forum board where I can "join the team". Not many would think to travel out to the index page, find the FAQ board, and open up the FAQ sticky. Maybe a stickied topic in this recruiting forum titled "What is MP2D?" would help that problem. Still, saying openly that we're "now recruiting this job, this job, and that job" would probably attract nubs more than anything, and we want skilled people who would be interested in MP2D itself. Maybe I'm just too picky.
Phazon Yoshi - October 26, 2007 08:44 PM (GMT)
You can never be too picky.
And DF, update that damn AI thread!
Mecha-Pichu - October 28, 2007 11:10 AM (GMT)
say, wouldn't you guys need some Voice-acting in your project?
if so, contact me @ Melchior_9@hotmail.com
srsly
good games have voice-acting :D
Phazon Yoshi - October 28, 2007 12:51 PM (GMT)
*slowly takes out phazero cannon, aims it, and fires*
Well, that's him gone.
But seriosuly, original MP didn't have voice acting, Zelda has never had it, Super metroid didn't Final fantasy 6+7 didn't, so really, saying that good games have to have voice acting is gunship!
Gawdown bennet, I hope he didn't come through MFM, then I'll feel responsible.
MasonMcCoy - October 28, 2007 02:26 PM (GMT)
There was an "ungh" sound and a death-scream. That's it, and that's all that belongs in MP2D.

Yeah, you're right about that. Anyone want to revise it?
Phazon Yoshi - October 29, 2007 08:17 PM (GMT)
Hmm, gimme some sprites and anything you want in it, and the style, and I'll give it a go.
Phazon Yoshi - November 7, 2007 07:15 PM (GMT)
Hmm, I have a banner.

Imageshack is down, so WHFF will have to do.
It's only a mockup, I had to rip Sammy's sprite from your old physics demo, but I'll try again when you give me some resources.
What do you think? Harsh as you like.
EDIT:Hatefull thing.

EDIT2: Oh, just paste the damn url into your bar.

This very topic answers your question and how to do it.
dark__echoes - November 25, 2007 10:55 PM (GMT)
do you need a level designer? i would love to help make the 3d 2d. if you have one allready, i could work on a differant part. i'm not real good at programing (i'm a n00b at Game Maker, but im learning fast), and i'm not an artist, i am a musician, but not a realy good one, put i love metroid, and i love mp1, and i think i could do a good job at desinging the levels.
Phazon Yoshi - November 26, 2007 07:45 PM (GMT)
Level designing is harder than it looks.
Load up paint, and copypasta tiles in to make a level based on a MP1 level.
I'm not sure whether we actually need any level designers now, though.
timmehboy - November 26, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
How many music makers are working on MP2D? I'm practicing with a trial Midimaker, and going to remake the 'SR388 Entrance' music from MII. Otherwise I've done crap MIDIs. Don't count me in. YET.
072 - November 26, 2007 08:59 PM (GMT)
Almost all of the midis are already done.
timmehboy - November 26, 2007 09:05 PM (GMT)
Really? Did you convert them to MP3s or keep them MIDIs? One I'd really like to hear would be Ridley's theme. It's so good. Well, if they're almost all done, that's great. One more thing out of the way.
Transitional - February 21, 2008 11:04 PM (GMT)
I know absolutely nothing about gamemaker, but I do have some experience in programming. I'm sure that if I were to whip something up in C, then somebody could sort-of translate it into whatever language GM uses.
Phazon Yoshi - February 21, 2008 11:45 PM (GMT)
GMP2D is dead...
I think CFX is writing in C++, innee?
C#'s fairly similar, I think. ish. kinda.
MasonMcCoy - February 22, 2008 12:35 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I don't know about you, but I'd say C# and C++ are based on C. They're similar. GML was also based on C, I think. :P
Phazon Yoshi - February 22, 2008 12:43 AM (GMT)
Mmm, that sounds about right.
Still, similar, in my experience.
Transitional - February 22, 2008 04:36 AM (GMT)
Just goes to show my current understanding of the project's progress/situation.
So, since it's going to be in C or a variation thereof, I guess then that I can contribute directly to the project.
Phazon Yoshi - February 22, 2008 12:13 PM (GMT)
Mmm, I'd talk to CFX about that, he's a bit... protective of 'his' project.
CoreFusionX - February 23, 2008 09:44 PM (GMT)
what's your problem with it being 'my' project?
Yes, it's MY project, and it happens to not be MP2D. The sooner you get that, the better.
And transitional, I certainly don't know what 'some experience' really means, but so far I haven't found any suitable candidate for helping in MetEngine, and even if someone would be suitable, I don't take co-workers easily. The last thing I need right now is having to explain my whole engine layout and work policy to someone, resulting in more work than the amount of work a coworker would save.
The offer is appreciated, but as a general policy, MetEngine remains a provate project, and it's unlikely that I'll take someone else to work on it, and in case I did, it'd have to be someone I know and trust, and with potential, which happens not to match the profile of 'random guy on the internet'.
EDIT: Also, as a general clarification. YOU don't have a programmer. No one is programming MP2D's demo right now, I certainly aren't. So before you go claiming things you don't know about, I'd ask first...
Phazon Yoshi - February 24, 2008 07:07 PM (GMT)
You can't say you're not protective of it, really!
That's all I meant, that you don't accept help much (possibly because you haven't found anyone, but meh)
One thing you could do, is GMP2D, people could submit code, why don't you do that? You don't have to use it, after all.
Though you say it's not MP2D, MP2D will use it, so the point (to my eyes) is moot.
(And before you ask, it can be an engine in it's own right once it has 2 unrelated things running on it)
Rofz - March 18, 2008 11:06 AM (GMT)
hey guys im new an a n00b but i have some exp with making games on game maker (i bought pro and am learning the GML slowly). Id love to do level design or enemy AI. the only thing is i suck at drawing sprites, so someone will need to give me some. ill make something on game maker pro and send it in, but just tell me first if your interested in having me on the team.
Phazon Yoshi - March 18, 2008 05:17 PM (GMT)
No offence, but I doubt it.
Even if the GM version of MP2D was still going ahead.
->:MES:<-Samus - March 24, 2008 11:08 PM (GMT)
If this is the page to be recruited from I would like to be recruited - for sprites Ive been sprite making editing for years now so I can just email me at SaHeMeRa@gmail.com with the info? maybe? please :)
Phazon Yoshi - March 24, 2008 11:10 PM (GMT)
'editing'?
Anyway, we're not recruiting as such, each month we get a set to do, and anyone that wants to do one simply claims it, and sets off working!
(Artifacts of the month thread)

:( ok. well I'll try that then :/

i really want to do something for mp2d but i dont think i am qualified to do that

In that case, please don't. Our sprites have to be 100% original made from scratch--edits are unacceptable.
If you'd like to give that a try, go ahead. Feel free to heavily reference SM's or whatever. But no editing.

I cant do sprites or program but i got some really sweet ideas.
like this one time my mom was serving herself some cereal and i was like, "yo, mom why u not just dump the milk in the box and save the rest for later?"
feel free to use that idea but give credit.

Edit: Replace "he with "it".
Despair - December 22, 2008 07:41 AM (GMT)
Hey, hey, hey.
Well I have been keeping an eye on this forum for nearly a year, and always thought you as visionaries! I loved your determination to the cause of nostalgia and fandom. I was just playing Super Metroid a few hours ago and thought I would see how you all were fairing. And you survive!
I would try to apply my knowledge to your cause if I can. Over the next few days I am going to review the artifacts section and decide what I can be the most help at. I am a hobbyist web designer, and therefore I have had to 'shop a graphic from time to time. I am er, also a hobbyist musician, although metal is probably not quite the ticket. XD As far as programing, I tried Visual Basic, and got really really.. REALLY frustrated. But I can make a mean PHP script.
I look forward to many great sleepless nights in your honor,
Despair

if your a musician you can try your hand at midis. basically, midis are computer generated songs, and the best part is they play perfectly each instance of the song... no mistakes! search anvil studio on google if you're interested in this
in addition to songs, you could also sprite. Sprites are done by hand, each color and pixel painstakingly selected and modified. It's not the same as photoshopping but it uses the same medium. I would search for some spriting tutorials on the internet if you're interested in this
