I've fielded a few emails about this so I figured I would see if there is overwhelming interest in using cap hit next season. With all the front loaded contracts out there it's making it harder for some managers to squeeze $12 salaries into their lineup.
So what's everyone's thoughts? |

I vote to leave it as is.
That has always been the challenge with this league, being able to juggle the actual salary of the players from year to year. I know that there have been plenty of trades generated due to players salaries alone. I would hate to have some of them come back to bite GM's that could have kept players if we change. |

As of right now, I don't like the idea. I just don't see a good reason for the change. If there's a good reason that I happen to be overlooking, I could be swayed.
Now, after the new CBA is announced, we may want to discuss the issue again. For all we know, the new CBA might say that salary=cap hit. |

I think if it does change to cap hit. We wait until the following season to do so. It's not fair to other GMs who have traded for this season.

Playing in leagues that use both cap hit vs. salary, I have to say that I like cap hit more as it is more "realistic" to how the NHL is actually run. We get punished when guys like Weber, Suter, Parise, etc sign these huge deals and they make some of the best players almost unusable. But I do agree that it shouldn't start until next season.

Yeah, I don't mind switching it to cap, but if we do, it should be next season.

Also, it would make sense to not decide on anything salary-related now until the new CBA is agreed to, as that could shake things up.

I agree with Philly and that we should look into this once the new CBA is annouced.
Too late now but definitely NEEDS to be addressed later and perhaps changed. |
