.
Simply stated, the anointing is the power of God manifest in our midst. It is the breeze of His divine and holy Presence, the breath of the Spirit. It is the light and life of Christ shining in us and through us. The anointing is the bubbling overflow from the wellsprings of God – the "rivers of living water" flowing out of our hearts.
Jesus walked constantly in the Spirit's anointing. He began His public ministry with the proclamation, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord" (Luke 4:18-19).
Jesus was dependent on the anointing to do the mighty works He did. Luke records that "on a certain day, as He was teaching… the power of the Lord was present to heal them" (Luke 5:17). The power of the Lord was the anointing. If Jesus needed it, how much more, then, do we!
