Mikau and Lulu?, Did they have a relationship?

In Majora's Mask, I'm on the quest to get back Lulu's stolen eggs (I'm currently trying to get the bottle from the beavers--it's so frustrating). But I am rather intrigued about the relationship between Mikau and Lulu. All we really know about them is that Mikau went to retrieve Lulu's eggs from the Gerudo pirates and ended up dying. On ZeldaWiki, it says on the page of the Indigo-Go's that "it is rumored (and most likely true) that [Mikau] is the father of Lulu's children."

What does everyone else think? Am I the only one that has an inkling that Mikau and Lulu were in a relationship?

I didn't take it as anything else. When you retrieve all the eggs (I think - it's been a couple of months since I played this part of the quest), you will see a short cinematic sequence featuring Lulu and Mikau. And as if it wasn't apparent before, you can talk to some of the other band members inside Zora Hall (wearing Mikau's mask) and see their reactions and what they say to you.

It made up my mind, for certain. Good luck on MM - it took me six months to finish that game (get all the masks, the heart pieces, get everywhere on time, etc). However, it is my opinion that MM majorly trumped OoT.

So, you also think Mikau and Lulu were in a relationship? It would explain a few things. And when I finally find all the eggs, I'll be sure to talk to the band members and make my own conclusions on the matter.

Thanks for saying that--I'm going to need all the luck I can get. Getting the bottle from the beavers is not easy (I'm starting to think that I should just get a bottle from somewhere else, but I'm not sure if that'll work; I'm on the night of the second day, I still have four eggs to find, and I really don't want to have to start the search all over again).

MM is a good game, but I think I prefer OoT, mainly because OoT was the first Zelda game I ever played.

I'm pretty sure about this. I would link you to a YouTube video, but there are other things in that particular cinematic sequence that I don't want to spoil for you. Have fun! Do you know the Song of Reverse Time to help things slow down?

Yes, I know the Song of Reversal Time, and it's very useful, but I do wonder that if I try to look for a bottle elsewhere, I'll end up having to restart the search for Lulu's eggs, which I don't want to do. Getting on a Gerudo boat proved to be quite difficult, I absolutely hate those evil skeletonal fish things, and the eggs aren't exactly easy to find.

And you don't have to worry about spoiling me--I've pretty much spoiled myself about what happens way later in the game. biggrin.gif

Does this look like it will help? How many eggs do you have already?

When I played MM last time, I had to go look for bottles before I went for the eggs (found that out the hard way). But once you find enough bottles, I promise everything will go much more quickly. I think you are incredibly brave to try that beaver game - I took one look at the course on a video on YouTube and I said, "Forget it!"

I'll look into that page. It's liable to be helpful. I have three bottles now, so I need at least one more.

I have three eggs so far. I need to find the other four.

I'm flattered to be called brave, and you're right about the beaver game. Racing against the first beaver is bad enough; I kept losing my temper when I tried to beat him.

But anyway, I was surfing on YouTube, and I came across a clip of Link reading Lulu's diary. Here's what it said:

QUOTE (Lulu's Diary)
It has been two days since I lost my voice.
I don't want Mikau to know, so I talked to Evan about it.
He recommended that I take the eggs to the Marine Research Lab to have them checked.
I think I will take them right away.

Such a terrible thing has happened today that I don't even know where to begin writing.
I heard a sound late at night, and when I opened my eyes, I saw strangers in my room.
I tried to fight, but they were able to steal my precious eggs.
It seems that I lost conciousness after that.

Today, I told everything to Mikau, the one person whom I didn't want to know about it.
At first, I was too embarrassed and too sad to do anything.
And with the words that Mikau said at that moment, I felt that all hope had been lost.
But please, Mikau, I'm begging you, don't do anything rash.

So, what can we gather from these diary entries? We know that Lulu didn't want Mikau to know about her eggs being stolen. How can this hint at Mikau being the father of Lulu's children (as I saw on a Wikipedia article)? Any father would be upset if their child got kidnapped, and if Lulu's warning to Mikau about not doing anything rash is any indication, he probably went ballistic at the news.

I hear that. The Cave of Ordeals in TP is just as bad. I threw my Wiimote across the room when I got to the last chamber in CoO - I just couldn't believe it. Can I get a witness?!

Well, considering these, I have an inkling that perhaps Mikau and Lulu had been in a relationship, but at the time of this diary entry, perhaps they weren't so close? Maybe they weren't as close, but they were still concerned for their babies? What are your thoughts?

That's an interesting thought, about Mikau and Lulu not being really close at that time. But I'm thinking that maybe Mikau was known for doing things without thinking it through, and maybe Lulu was worried he'd do something rash and get himself killed. Well, as we saw in the game, Mikau pretty much did get himself killed.

Maybe what happened is that they fought, and when the babies were kidnapped, Mikau went in first to try to rescue them and show Lulu he wanted back in the relationship with her? It's very, very sad in any case. sad.gif Seeing those babies hatch without a momma or daddy anywhere near them.

What part of the game are you in now?

Really, because Mikau and Lulu's story is so vague (especially when compared to the story of Kafei and Anju), the possibilities are endless.

And yeah, it is very sad. Dad's dead, and Mom (who has lost her voice--does Lulu ever get her voice back?) has little idea as to where the eggs are or even if they're unharmed. sad.gif

I think it will be okay for me to spoil you: Lulu does get her voice back, the babies hatch, and everything turns okay (except that Dad's dead). One thing that distinguished MM from OoT is that MM was so sad at every single turn! There was the Deku Mask and the Deku Butler's son, there was Anju and Kafei, there was Darmani and the little Goron baby, there was Mikau, Lulu and their babies, Cremia after Romani is taken away, Skull Kid and the giants...the list goes on. I will freely admit to crying at Darmani's story, though.

Oy - the beavers. Keep trying until you absolutely have to stop and go back in time, then maybe fetch bottles?

I agree with you completely. OoT is a classic fairytale; a peaceful land is suddenly conquered by evil, but there is always that little inkling of hope that things will get better.

MM doesn't have that hope that its prequel has. Compared to OoT, MM is nothing more than cold, hard reality. Practically every single character is depressed for some reason or another, whether it's about their missing fiance (Anju), their kidnapped children and dead lover/husband (Lulu), that their business is going down the drain (Cremia), or what-have-you. And unlike Hyrule, Termina is a truly corrupted land destined to fade away.

Very pessimistic.

MM is very realistic. To me, the whole thing was a symbol of what happens to individual people when evil runs amok with no one to stop it. People get hurt, and even after the evil is taken away, some people's hearts will never truly heal (case in point: the Deku Butler's son, Darmani's family) after the damage is done.

You brave, trooping soul. I would have thrown the controller across the room after the third try. Many kudos to you and your diligence. 20.gif

That makes sense, considering that MM is thought of as the darkest game in the Zelda series. And anyway, Termina is a parallel world of Hyrule--why shouldn't it be all angsty and tragic? Even if it means families/lovers are torn apart (Kafei/Anju, Mikau/Lulu and their children, etc).

*blushes* Thanks. But the last time I tried it (which was a few hours ago), I felt that it was actually easier than all the previous trys...until I got to the second to last ring. I was so close... sad.gif
