| QUOTE (Hylian Princess @ Oct 8 2008, 08:35 PM) | I think it would be even more awkward if he becomes king, IMO. If he's raised as prince, then he won't be the Link we know entirely. He's certainly be different! He'd be more of a ruler and a better king, since he'd be raised in a kingly environment with important/boring duties and roles in society as a child.
A Link that becomes king would be peculiar since he kinda spent his entire life away from a huge society, and he's never born in Hyrule (or so he remembers and has been told). There would be a HUGE adjustment to be made for both Zelda and Link in the real story. |
I think the reason I am liking the idea of King Link ( royal by marriage ) is because I see him as a very unconventional warrior-King. One who's not so sharp on protocol, but hugely popular with his people owing to his heroic title and his common-born status. Zelda's somewhat unconventional too in being a warrior/tomboy, so I see them as an excellent match. But that's normal Link.
Crown Prince Link ( born royal ) however I see as being somewhat more polished, polite and political...I'm agreed he'd be totally different. He'd lose that charming awkwardness I normally associate him with, especially when he's in Princess Zelda's presence. I actually prefer him as royal-by-marriage, simply because I see him as being more hands-on than one raised in a castle and taught politics. More likely to actually get out there and interact with his people.

The fact that you stated Link being unconventional with lack of protocol is why I see normal Link as King being disasterously doomed for failure IMO. But I'm sure Zelda would have the wisdom to keep him as a symbolic figurehead and nothing more. But I agree with you on Link being popular with the common people as a commoner turned royal as a result of being married to Zelda. Though he would be limited in being visible to the people since he would need to spend most of his time in the Castle doing what he can in helping Zelda in co-ruling and being by her side in all the daily royal meetings and what not. I like the idea of the parallel female Link & male Zelda though. Its a very unique concept that I have never given much thought to.

I seem to recall a point you made that Link and Zelda's teamwork would be a brains and brawn type thing which I totally agreed upon. Whether he is in a romantic relationship with Zelda as courtly aristocrat or Malon as feudal knight, the brains and brawn teamwork of Link and Zelda would work out very well IMO.
I just can't picture Link overruling, or even ruling equally with Zelda thats all. Remember Link has the TOC not the TOW. Having Link be totally out of character by doing things that are better suited for Zelda's talent is beyond ridiculous. I admit that OOT/MM Link has the best chance in helping Zelda co-rule more efficiently than say TP Link, but IMO Link having to do things involving administrative executive and judicial decisions that are far more better suited to Zelda's talents is very unlikely I'm afraid. As in game evidence overwhelmingly supports in OOT, MM, and TP, Link is better suited taking orders not giving them. To be an effective ruler realistically, a monarch must be assertive, well spoken, and have advanced knowledge of administration. OOT and TP Link possess none of those qualities and the charming awkwardness you referenced before obviously translates to Link being inept and unqualified as a King.
If Zelda is who we think she is in putting the benefit of the kingdom of Hyrule first, then she would not relinquish ANY of her administrative duties to someone as unqualified as Link. It makes no logical sense whatsoever. In historical times, rulers with unassertive personality/character traits like Links usually spelled economic disaster and ruin in their respected kingdoms (Edward II). Zelda IMO should have the wisdom to not bestow Link with any royal power whatsoever if she truly loves her kingdom and people as much as we claim she does.
As for Male Zelda its different. He would be raised in the royal courts and not the forest as normal Link was. So absolute rulership would fit well with him with female Link as his feminine but tough Queen.

But a leader needs Courage just as much, remember that! Look at Link in AoL..the backstory has the ancient King possessing the entire Triforce. ( my theory? He may have been ALTTP Link ) The prophecy points to AoL Link being the "great king", but to fulfill this, he needs to recover the Triforce of Courage. I could even start a theory that the bearer of Courage is equally destined to rule with Wisdom someday. Anyways, a ruler needing courage: one of the most important things a leader does is inspire and motivate their people. In a battle, their courage would literally lead their people to war. And I agree in OoT/MM Link being more likely: he actually has the history with Zelda for us to suspect romantic involvement.
What are you talking about? Link is plenty assertive. He charges and takes down fortresses full of monsters and challenges the King of Evil himself to rescue Zelda. When he has to do something, nothing can stop him! He's only unassertive with Zelda because she's right. That and he's supposed to be us. Therefore if he takes action on his own he is betraying that.
And that's not fair. Female Link would be qualified to rule alongside male Zelda, yet male Link is not when he is at female Zelda's side? A female Link would be just as provincial and inexperienced with courtly manners as a male hero.

I agree with you 100% on AOL Link. But AOL Link and OOT/TP Link seem to be totally different personalities because back in the 80's Link was more percieved as an assertive ladies man where the Link in the past 10 years is percieved to have the unassertive nice guy who finishes last in romance stigma.
When it comes to action, OOT Link has plenty of Courage so I agree with you on that one. Thats why I see Zelda placing him in being involved in things that relate to his strengths as in military matters. My point was that I don't see Zelda placing Link to do things that are weaknesses in his talents such as important royal matters of administration and diplomacy involving making royal speeches and such. Its pretty much accepted that Links personality is one with a gentle soul, and a gentle soul makes for a horrible and uncharasmatic ruler. Of course Zelda has a gentle soul, but her posession of the TOW enables her to be the wise and just ruler we all know and love. Links courage is more associated with fighting. It has nothing to do with being a monarch.
As for the Queen female Link, I just didn't think to mention that she would be subservant to male Zelda as regular Link is to regular Zelda. She would be like a Xena warrior princess in being more involved in military matters instead of royal duties just like regular Link IMO.

Sorry for bringing up an old topic, but I found a new female Link pic, a book, and a vid that gave me some thoughts. First, I don't think the hero of time need be born a girl. Let me put it this way, Ganon, magicks, transformations. Also, Ganon has the reason of the fact that guys, around Link's age (I don't mean to sound sexist) are genetically stronger than girls usually. Also, their could always be the wolf like case in TP, only Link turns into a girl. Now, part of the enchanment makes Link think like a female, as in male and female thoughts in one body (can also be shown by female actions around females for instance, or female actions around males, which could really frustrate Link), there by causing frustration, confusion, anger, and foggy headedness. That could be a part of the story. Link's struggle to understand herself. Sadly, I don't think that the LoZ team will ever make a female Link game because of the instabillity of the story though. Very sad. I will post said picture later, and the vid's name has something to so with Linket. The book mentioned is called the Ring of Five Dragons, by Eric van Lustbader, in which a guy's soul is put in a female's body. De Pic: Also there is another one, but I can't find it anymore, and I don't know how to upload from the computer. If anyone tells me how I will do so.
